- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72I am fluent in broken english with no real point. Allow me to translate:
"This will make that thousands of star wars kids across the world who will are going to be paying money to do what one did when he was just bored one"
>> Hey, you remember that kid who became an internet phenomenon after a video of him pretending to be a Jedi was released to the world? With the advent of a lightsaber game for the Wii, thousands of kids will look just like that.
"And for those who are like oh don't knock that kid. I'm not he rules for having the guts to do that, his friends suck. and if you haven't just been bored and did that you're a liar."
>> If any of you think I'm making fun of him, I think he's pretty great for being bold as to record himself doing something stupid and then being pissed off for the infamy he received. His friends suck. If you're going to stand there and tell me with a straight face that you've never done exactly that out of shear boredom then I, sir, call you a liar! - droidmeister, on 10/12/2007, -4/+45lightsaber wielding on the Wii = nail in the coffin for the competition
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32I love it he is asking for a star wars game. Hopefully he is doing this on a more official level as well.
- laserob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34I bet Star Wars Kid is creaming his pants right now.
- heymark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23That was phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal.
Even if your boss was coming, how do you miss so many words in an entire post? That made my day. Thank you. - m.sandstorm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25hehe technically they're not hitting each other at all.
Wii + LIGHTSABERS = CRAZY DELICIOUS!!!
If they announce a Star Wars game for Wii with full use of a lightsaber consider myself sold. OMFG Imagine if you could dual wield using two Wii controllers!? (0_0)
/cry tears of joy - GreatSunJester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Can you imagine the attempted homeowners insurance claims? "No no, really -- 4 lamps, an end table AND a poodle."
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18I don't think there is a human being on the planet who would not play a Wii lightsabre game. Certainly, we know that at least Ghislain will.
- gameboyhippo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Amen to that! Forget realistic graphics. Welcome to the age of realistic motions.
- Punisher2K, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21ENGLISH? DO YOU SPEAK IT?
- robertgoodwin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Absolutely! This is reason enough alone to buy a Wii. My 6-year-old son would absolutely love this. He already can't sit through a Star Wars movie or game without going and grabbing one of his 4 lightsabers and wailing away at the furniture. Lucas Arts must do this!
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I hope so too, but lately Lucas Arts hasn't been too friendly with Nintendo and with the exodus of Factor 5 I'm not sure who would make the game.
Here's hoping Iwata can make amends. - GetOffMyLawnKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Despite any relationship problems in the past between LucasArts and Nintendo this will happen. It always comes down to money and they won't turn this opportunity down.
The saber sounds coming out of the speaker on the wiimote will be quite a nice touch. - tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"The saber sounds coming out of the speaker on the wiimote will be quite a nice touch."
wiimote has my vote for BEST WORD EVER - j.carcinogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10When you submitted this story, didn't you get told that the same exact link was already submitted?
- atezun, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13...umm...what?
- AdamFitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I think we know how Lucas will handle this.
He'll release a game for wii that uses the wiimote as a standard controller. And a press release saying "I will never release a game using the wiimote as a lightsaber, the game is meant to be played with a controller, that's the way the game functions in my mind." Then a year later he'll release a special edition of the game that uses the controller as a lightsaber, and blame the fact that we all have to rebuy it on "sudden fan interest" in the feature. - Mizark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9As one of the few people here to actually play with the wiimote at E3 I am not sure how a sword fighting game would work. I mean nothing stops you from completing your swing even if in the game your swing is blocked. It would not be as immersing as many of you are thinking it would be.
- GeniusCube, on 10/12/2007, -13/+22Multi player lightsaber dueling over the net... I'm sorry, but that would be to good to be true. Would also be a legal nightmare, i mean, imagine the parental suits it could cause "(name of opponent) I am your father"
- The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8and the other attachment (e.g. second part of the nun-chuck) could be used for force control
lightsaber in one hand, ability to knock people over with the second, it would be great. - tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"We really want [filmmaker George] Lucas to think about making a game where this can be used as a light saber. It should be fun."
FTFA, about 3/4 of the way through. - portilaj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'm worried about the prospect of all the sword-fighting style games for the Wii.
A number of articles have sprung up recently discussing potential limitations of the remote, including the idea that unless the front of the remote is pointed in the direction of the sensor bar, then the accurate motion tracking is non-functional.
This makes the standard 'ready stance' of sword fighters a no-go. You simply cannot sword fight if the tip of your sword has to be pointed directly ahaid at all times.
Aparently this is the limitation that made the controls of 'Red Steel' suck at E3, since they had to fake it by limiting the sword fighting to 8 different canned moves that were triggered by a kind of gesture recognition instead of actual motion tracking.
I hope they they can pull it off though. Hopefully the 'idea' of the Wii isn't greater then the reality. - kevbear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The mechanics of the game could stop you from moving the controller passed a blocked position.
If you're blocked and you keep pushing with the remote then the chances that you lose the block i.e. the other player pushes you out of the way, increase.
The game doesn't physically stop you from making that move, but logically does due to the increased risk of being disadvantaged by keeping moving the controller passed the point it should be.
That would potentially make it quite exciting when the sabers are "locked" together, do you push more aggressively with the hope of the opponent over-pushing and losing, or do you play it safe and just choose to hold in that position.
That's how I've also felt they could resolve that. - thedak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Sorry to break this to you but cloud doesn't wield a gunblade. Squall from FFVIII does.
/finalfantasynazi - seand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I gave your post a thumbs up. I needed a good solid laugh and man did your monsterous brainfart provide that :P
- cybershoplifter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8All I have to say is VVVVVRRRRR, VVVVOP, ZZZVVVRRR, (sound of lightsaber) can't wait and wish I was 12yrs old.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6^^^ And while the lightsabers are locked together. You can use the nunchuck to punch the opponent on the face. Or use another Wiimote attached to your leg to give him a kick in the nuts.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's not exactly the focus of the article, though. I think the headline was crafted to draw diggs from Star Wars fans and Wii fanatics alike.
- spriggig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yeah, my kid got this same thing for Xmas last year, here's the link:

Hey, maybe the next version of Tomb Raider will come with a gym set! - kartack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not that I want to rain on your parade. I would also love to play a lightsaber / any other type of sword dueling game with a Wii controller but I see one major problem with this. That is that you can't provide proper feedback when "blades", of either light or steel make contact. Clearly the lightsabers are able to block each other and when they do they stop each other's movement. On the screen you could easily show this happening but to actually stop the player from swinging through with his attack is another matter. I can't imagine it would be possible to put any where near strong enough force feedback system into a Wii controller to equal the strength of even a small child. In comparison with tennis when you make contact with the ball you can feel it but you don't have to actually stop a person's arm, a simple rumble of the controller can give enough response so that you can understand what just happened and recreate a more lifelike experience. A sword block is an entirely different matter. The best I could see for a lightsaber based game would be you verses an army of laser blaster wielding droids, no direct arm stopping here assuming the droid bodies are cut up as easy as the movies show, lots of blocking laser bolts and slashing droids to pieces. Just no Jedi verses Jedi fighting. Like I said at the start I'd love to see this as much as anyone else but I just can't see it happening in the near future.
- Ayatollah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7can it really reproduce accurately the core mechanics of sword fighting?...Red Steel didn't seem too impressive
- heymark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't play video games at all. No, really.. AT ALL. Yet, i find it funny that i am highly considering the purchase of Wii when it's released.
That has to say something for Nintendo. - worbd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Mizark, maybe the rumble feature can be activated when you hit something with the sword. That would at least give you physical feedback. Better than nothing :)
Xalorous, you can't even begin to compare the PS3 controller to the Wiimote! - MeekSpiffinton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ laserob
I can see it now. The video of him will be on gamesfaqs.com as it's the pattern for defeating the final boss of Star Wars: Wii. - galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even a KOTOR title would be nice. One of the bosses could have a Darth Maul-like double lightsaber.
I'm going to need a new coffee table... - Inthearmor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6How about FF7 on the Wii, Cloud in some adventure type game. THAT would be awesome! Swing the controler, you have a sword. Pull the trigger, and out shoots the gunblade! But lightsabers would be fun too.
- worbd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4OBKenobi is confused.
The Wiimote can do far more than a keyboard and mouse. If OBKenobi had bothered to watch, say, the E3 tennis demo, he would have noticed that the tracking is excellent, and the flexibility is naturally far greater than a mouse.
OBKenobi needs to read up on what the Wii can do. - sosuke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4My god, completely off the digg topic, but there was someone in here, can't even remember his name at this point, that was a moron, someone in a reply mentioned +block, I saw the block icon, clicked it, and he was gone, freaking sweet. Thank you digg for being able to block people as well as add friends.
- UnlivedPhalanx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Iwata is a genious.
- cfazzini, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wasn't this on the front page yesterday?
- Ignitedude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo's Great E3 Coverup
http://sickr.wordpress.com/2006/05/18/the-great-coverup/ - Xalorous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The article title is deliberately deceptive, AND it just goes to show that lots of folks don't bother to read the articles. They just talk out their arses about what others have already said.
Yeah, he mentioned the possibility of a Star Wars game, using the wiimote. No sabers in the article, that's just digg-exaggeration, flying off the digg, wild digg fantasy, whatever you want to call it. I'm not saying that IF Lucasarts licenses a Wii Star Wars game, and IF it is a success, that there WON'T be a wiisaber created. I am only saying that the Nintendo guy didn't mention a saber type remote for the wii. - Nasso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Lots of people have remarked upon the possibilities offered in a Wii Star Wars-based game"
That is all that is said about the lightsaber-thing :P
I thought the whole article was about it.. very very misleading title. im dissapointed - triplexpac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The number of possibilities with the wii are the most exciting things in video gaming for me right now. I never even though about using the Wii as a lightsaber... I wonder what other surprises they might have in store for us?
- The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Did somebody forget to take their meds?
- NOFXY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3soo.... does it get its name changed to the wiisaber just like the wiimote?
- SyvanX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They could tie in a lightsaber version of the wiimote and make some extra cash. Maybe even make it customizable somehow. I know I would want to be swinging a lightsaber hilt around
- CedanticPunt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5don't like it? don't read it!
+block for abuse of your shift key - sosuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that's enough for me, he said it in a off comment, without really thinking, which means he really has thought about it, my curiosity is piqued
- solidblu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9yeah It happens, everyone get one though.
and you're welcome. I'm glad my giant brain fart brought someone entertainment :) -
