- Spetz, on 10/20/2007, -2/+112Why do people keep putting Portal down by saying it's too short? It's anything but short. Completing the first campaign is nothing. The real game is the advanced maps and the challenges. I just bought Portal by itself and it is easily worth the money.
- ChromaVita, on 10/24/2007, -11/+90Buried for not being about sex with a redhead...
- theaceoffire, on 10/22/2007, -1/+76Portal is the kind of innovative game play that I feel is missing from new games nowadays.
^_^ If only they would start adding it to FPS's... Unreal Tournament would be insane with portals.
Course I would be the one tricked into falling forever. - coolboy0286, on 10/17/2007, -41/+101Take that halo 3!
- meruru, on 10/18/2007, -0/+56A company puts together a great package of games for a fair price and you still steal it, good job.
- juicebag, on 10/20/2007, -2/+56Buried for calling it a "companion box". Insensitive bastards.
- Butt3rs, on 10/17/2007, -3/+50i bought my orange box the day it was relased and its been the best $60 ive EVER spent!
- Joeshie, on 10/17/2007, -11/+51Except that one just happens to be better than the other.
- merr, on 10/19/2007, -2/+39I'll admit that before I bought the Orange Box, I had never played any of the Half-Life series. Now after spending the last week playing Half-Life 2 I understand why its fans say that Halo is overrated. I have never been so into an FPS game like I have been with Half-Life 2. Also, Portal is one of the coolest games I've played in a long time.
- dunlop, on 10/17/2007, -0/+34Thankfully I have not played the HL2 series (I guess I have been living in a cave), so the purchase for me is freaking awsome (360 version). It is worth it for just Portal and TF2
- fuzzmeister, on 10/17/2007, -6/+39but there's no sense crying over every mistake
you just keep on trying until you run out of cake
and the science gets done and you make a neat gun
for the people who are still alive - Klarth, on 10/17/2007, -11/+44For christ's sake; they're both good games. It's not a case of all-out war between the two.
- whinehurst, on 10/17/2007, -1/+33and you can give away the games you all ready had?!? it's awesome! In a market where consumers regularly get ***** over, Valve just decided to be amazing. They win.
- Matteos, on 10/17/2007, -0/+30"a case of all-out war between the two"
That would be a kick ass game. - saltinekracka20, on 10/17/2007, -22/+47Why not enjoy both? I am. Buried for being a hater.
- popothebright, on 10/17/2007, -1/+25Portal is the best game I've played in years. If it had been longer, I'd have payed full price for it. Simply awesome. Totally original. Go Valve.
Halo 3 was utterly unoriginal at every turn. - inactive, on 10/17/2007, -0/+22Is it worth $50? Hell, just based on replay value, I'd pay that for TF2 alone. Portal is short, yes, but it's freakin' brilliant, and it's only a matter of time before the fan-made maps start coming out. And Episode 2... Well, honestly, it's so far the best installment yet for an incredible series.
- Falc, on 10/17/2007, -0/+20so did i, but i only paid $37 at Circuit City!!! woot
- eplawless, on 10/17/2007, -0/+18"It would have been much easier if Valve allowed us to buy each bit of the Orange Box à la carte, but unfortunately we have to treat this as one big game."
"If you were to buy these games separately, this is how Valve breaks the pricing down on Steam:"
YOU LIED TO ME
ALSO YOU ARE A TERRIBLE REVIEWER - ryanknapper, on 10/17/2007, -1/+18Portal *is* too short. It could never be long enough.
- Division, on 10/17/2007, -1/+17http://ahk057.com/music/portal_still_alive.mp3
- Argle, on 10/17/2007, -0/+15I used to play the original Team Fortress Quake mod, and TF2 stays true. I've played TF2 quite a few evenings now and it alone is worth $50. It's probably the most entertaining game I've ever played. A lot of FPS games are very serious, and realistic. This game is intense but also FUN and stylish. Loads of laugh out loud moments. Valve is amazing, I am so glad they waited to release this game and get it right.
- saltinekracka20, on 10/17/2007, -0/+13Same here, so its 5 brand new games for me. Unbeatable deal.
- swanny89, on 10/17/2007, -4/+16Gordon Freeman>Master Chief
- bluenullity, on 10/17/2007, -7/+19Even though you broke my heart and killed me
And tore me to pieces
And threw every piece into a fire
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you - xtmno3, on 10/17/2007, -0/+11You know their patches won't have near the chaos involved in custom maps. Hell, if people can make things like surf maps for CS:S, imagine what they will come u p with a portal gun!
- yohnstoppable, on 10/17/2007, -1/+12Team Fortress 2 by itself justifies the $50 price tag
Portals by itself justifies the price tag
Episode 2 I haven't even gotten around to playing yet, cause the other 2 have taken up all of my gaming time. Toss in HL2, episode 1, and peggle extreme, and this is the best value for a game I've ever had by far. Not sure why anyone would buy these games seperately - fuzzmeister, on 10/17/2007, -1/+11Trust me, play HL2 before you play anything else. It is amazing.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/16/2007, -0/+10Prey was supposed to have a similar feature using portals in multiplayer. There was a video of it from years ago. If they didn't scrap that idea I'd probably still be playing that game because it looked ridiculously fun to shoot a portal right in front of some guy who was about to hit you with a rocket launcher only to have it hit him from a portal that opened up behind him.
- merr, on 10/17/2007, -0/+10Fan-made portal maps, you say? http://portalmaps.net/
- Nidy1, on 10/17/2007, -1/+10J.C. Denton > Gorden Freeman
- llamaguy132, on 10/17/2007, -2/+11thats not very fair, Gordon got a 'trial by fire' combat training, remember that he is just a physicist. Master chief is a trained super soldier. Taking that into consideration, Gordon would STILL pwn master chief with a sink to the face.
- nicku, on 10/17/2007, -0/+9I agree Portal was great, its a ton of fun. I hope they add additional challenges thru Steam when they do patches.
- thanakar, on 10/17/2007, -3/+12The cake is a lie
- themastersb, on 10/17/2007, -0/+9Prepare for unforeseen consequences.
- MxSam, on 10/17/2007, -0/+8Portal is a mind-blowing game in my opinion. Really challenges you, and if you think that's hard...theres the Advanced and Time Challenges.
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/17/2007, -0/+7Don't forget the fact that you'll be able to download custom levels later.
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -1/+8"What does $50 get you these days?"
A better server then you have... - Nobi-Wan, on 10/17/2007, -0/+7I only played a little HL2 on my old roommate's computer but I never finished it. It's hard to resist the game, but I have too many right now that I'm having a hard enough time making free time to play: Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, Phantom Hourglass, the free new DLC for Oblivion, Jeanne d'Arc, etc. Not to mention Mass Effect and Mario Galaxy are coming out within the next 4 weeks. DAMMIT!
- mrjit, on 10/16/2007, -0/+7I haven't heard ANYONE have issues with it yet.
- ralphie81, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6Oh my word, it's not that hard, people. PC Version: $49.99 retail, XBox 360 Version: $59.99 retail price. If you bought/stole/laundered a cheaper version somewhere, good for you, but no one cares.
- llamaguy132, on 10/18/2007, -0/+6EVERY other game is ok to pirate... but you NEVER pirate valve games
- louiedog, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6Same here. Since I don't have a Gold live account the Orange Box also gives me much much more to do.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5I vote for Portal 2!
- jnosanov, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5Are they retarded? You can buy each item separately on Steam.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/18/2007, -2/+7Are you actually bragging about being a douchebag?
- thanakar, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6If you like sex with redheads, read Heinlen.
- MalDON, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5That made me laugh. I have to admit, Valve is one of the few companies that can make a serious game funny. Most companies fail at comedy,
- bagelpirate, on 10/17/2007, -1/+6Whats with people paying $60?
Its $45 through steam for the entire orange box, best value ever. - SpaceParanoids, on 10/17/2007, -1/+5I could see beating the game and the advanced levels in a few hours, but you got gold on all 18 challenges? I seriously doubt it.
