- stlredbird, on 08/01/2008, -1/+85I didn't realize there was a "duh" category on digg.
- dignews, on 07/31/2008, -6/+72No its mostly yanks to you because xbox live tries to find the best connection for other games and the best connection for americans is somebody from america. For me Xbox Live is all british people, ok yeh I get the odd american now and again but it always puts me in games with other british people.
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -3/+64So what?
- matt247, on 07/31/2008, -3/+58Well, the majority of 360s sold are in America, so it would make seance for the majority of live user to be American.
- 9bpm9, on 08/01/2008, -10/+42I still find it funny that Europeans call us a nickname that people also called us 300 years ago.
- rlbond86, on 08/01/2008, -6/+38Ever notice something about XBOX live? The people that are on it, they're mostly annoying 13-year olds.
- KSUdesigner, on 08/01/2008, -3/+34Seance? They have a game for conjuring up spirits of the dead?
- fakeplasticsnow, on 08/01/2008, -8/+36Lucky. Ten-year old American kids are the most annoying things on the planet.
- irvin666, on 08/01/2008, -2/+29Yanks sound derogatory to me....I know it's strange, but it does.
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -5/+31Advantage of the feature which allows me to mute everyone except those on my Friend List, and it has markedly improved my experience.
- CanIGetAWitness, on 07/31/2008, -2/+25That's "Cheeky Bastard" to you.
- calibration, on 08/01/2008, -1/+2310 year old kids on the internet are annoying period, not just Americans.
- CYR1X, on 08/01/2008, -1/+23Sums it up pretty much.
- akamurph, on 08/01/2008, -0/+20Shut up wanker, I'm going outside to smoke a fag.
- Dino451, on 08/01/2008, -1/+20I am an American and I feel the need to stick up for the Brits. Whenever a Brit comes on other Americans will trash them because they aren't from the U.S. That usually sets off TKs and trash talking between the two.
- YancyFryJr, on 08/01/2008, -2/+20I wish there were more Aussies on Live. Especially of the female persuasion.
Gotta love that Aussie accent. - sizbo, on 08/01/2008, -2/+19"What's percentage of Xbox LIVE users are European? Says Lewis:
...as a percentage of that overall total, it's just less than a quarter."
Shoddy ***** article. - Wargasmic, on 08/01/2008, -1/+17awkward.
- airwalkery2k, on 07/31/2008, -1/+15My old roommate would always get angry when his Gears of War teammates were speaking a foreign language. Believe me. I heard him complain.
- maddendude, on 08/01/2008, -1/+15This is rocket science.
- benitojuarez, on 08/01/2008, -2/+15Thats because it was a "racial slur" used against the inhabitants of new england (USA pre 1776) by the british.
- adiyo011, on 08/01/2008, -2/+15You're doing it wrong.
You need to put that into an article so we can digg it. - inactive, on 08/01/2008, -0/+12Red white and blue are British colours too. And French. What a silly way to end an article.
- ConfusedCartman, on 08/01/2008, -1/+13I want to apologize on behalf of America for the fact that, when you hand us anonymity and a microphone, we go *****. Not all of us, but enough of us to warrant an apology.
By the way, this applies in many more places than Xbox Live. - Whackly, on 08/01/2008, -2/+14Your argument, though not invalid, would carry more weight if xbox 360's weren't made in china.
- jmeeker516, on 08/01/2008, -1/+12agreed. except we didn't come in at "the last minute". if anything it was france that was saved. The entrance of the U.S. into WWII provided a much-needed morale boost for the allies.. Who knows, the french might have been speaking german today if the states were never attacked by japan...
edit: wow an xbox live article spawned a WWII discussion.. - glenSM, on 08/01/2008, -4/+14I think its the most polite thing they can think of.
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -1/+10I switch on my xbox.
EVERY time I go online I hear mainly Americans - there are some great people online, but the annoying kids must go.
And people who can only say fag, ***** and lame every other word - they're giving the Americans a bad name. - Murdats, on 08/01/2008, -2/+11you are totally right, anyone who is not american does not deserve to be on the internet,
the internet should be reserved for only those of the greatest race ever, americans, of which you are the shining example of intelligence and civility.
base insults and generalisations are beneath you unlike those from other lesser countries. - ZephyrNinety, on 07/31/2008, -11/+19Microsoft is an American company... makes sense.
- CasinoJack, on 08/01/2008, -0/+8Oh for ***** sake, please don't make generalisations of Brits just because of a couple of retards on XBox Live. Using insults like that is reprehensible, but that's the first time I've ever heard anyone (Brit or otherwise) use '911' as an insult.
The bottom line is that the nicest Brits on XBL are as nice as the nicest Yanks and the most retarded Brits on XBL are as annoying as the most retarded Yanks - country makes bugger all difference. - aptanalogy, on 08/01/2008, -2/+10I'm still quartering redcoats in my house...
- crazycarlmar, on 08/01/2008, -0/+8I'm pretty sure more people live in Europe than in the US.
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -0/+7Well, you did it to yourselves.
- Biks, on 08/01/2008, -10/+17Jesus...how many world wars do we have to win for you Brits so you'll like us? Look, it's our colony now. Get over it. :-)
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -0/+7Toiletghost, you are so off the mark.
Proud of the atomic bomb? ***** me. A great way to end a war. Mass genocide. You think killing innocents is a good thing? That it's heroic?
I wasn't saying the Brits won, I was saying that there a lot of Americans who think they won the war. It was an Allied effort. So before you stick your muscle head in, try and work out what I was trying to say, not just a childish arguement about "who won" - my point was that we all did it together.
@jmeeker, I agree with you. And yes, amazing how this came from an xbox thread! - vstro24, on 08/01/2008, -4/+11Thats not so true in GTA, actually most games...i remember i joined a race with my friends and it was full of brits, as soon as they herd me and my friends talk, they all started to say ***** like "get the ***** out u yank." We were like "wtf man we didn't do ***** to you guys." Then they said "Your Grandmother died in 911" Witch btw all the brits i ever played with all say this for some reason. It must be a common insult there idk. then i told them that "they were just jealous that we broke free from their country with a bunch of farmers and we saved their ass in WWII." So then they said "tell your jet fighters to learn how to fly and not bomb friendlies" witch i only heard happened once and it was due to lack of communication. So i would have to say brits are just as big as ***** as Americans.
- JakeSN, on 08/01/2008, -0/+7I still get called a "Canuck" and im sure Australians still get called "Aussies" and British people "Brits" and so on. Nothing really abnormal about it, in fact i kind of like getting called it.
- KMartSheriff, on 08/01/2008, -1/+7I've gotten in matches on Burnout Paradise with brits who say similar things. Very ***** up. And Americans are the bad guys of course. *rolls eyes*
- Jenadae, on 08/01/2008, -1/+7For some reason GoW has the worst matchmaking out of any LIVE game ive played. I always end up playing with people who dont speak a lick of english...
- indubitably, on 08/01/2008, -0/+6i enjoy accents of all sorts. celebrate diversity. peace and love. kthxbai
- Radan, on 08/01/2008, -1/+7Hm... Interesting that you use the atomic bomb as an example of Americas great technical breakthrough, seeing how it was mainly developed by migrated European engineers and scientists.
- rsHoratio, on 08/01/2008, -4/+10seconded
- AL7AIR, on 08/01/2008, -0/+6Just guess what we German players are called ... I wasn't alive back then, and I'm pretty sure the 12 year old screaming into the mic wasn't either.
- TheAuditor, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5Not just that, but according to wikipedia "However, when taking the inventions of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland into account to form British inventions, it is estimated that between 40 and 50% of all modern inventions were produced by the British."
- ericrous, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5I'm sure 10 year old British kids are precious little angels. Why, here come two of them now:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F0 ... - inactive, on 08/01/2008, -5/+10Erm.. WWII you guys sat and watched until the last minute, and then you turn up to claim YOU won it, it was a win for the ALLIES not the US. Don't get me wrong - we appreciated the help and the thousands that died alongside us, but stop claiming it was you that 'saved' us... a load of balls.
I'm sure you guys just write your own history books. - wreckosaurus, on 08/01/2008, -2/+7Boy, lately I've been thinking that the frontpage material on digg has been going way down in quality. But then an article like this comes along and completely restores my faith in digg. Excellent submission, really, I'm not being sarcastic at all. This is the greatest and most useful article I've ever read, not just on digg, but in my entire life. How could I possibly have gone on living without reading that incredibly detailed and informative paragraph. WHY ISN'T THE MSM COVERING THIS!!!!111
- glenSM, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5yankee was used because it means pirates, because americans didnt care about copyright at the time of growing economy so they would steal plans for machinery. I didnt believe that either but its true.
