This is the site of the guy that did the DC image. He does fantastic stuff. If you're a Halo/Marathon fan it is a must to check out it his Bungie folder. - jimmick, on 07/20/2008, -0/+6I Digg content, not people.
- Cloud7654, on 07/20/2008, -0/+4Yeah. =/ The only one's easily recognizable are Fallout 3 and Half Life 2: Ep3.
- TVarmy, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3It's the Borealis. It's in somewhere cold, because Dr. Mossman was wearing a thick parka when she found it. There's another pic from the same artist showing a bunch of advisors flying near the Borealis, which has it's name clearly written, along with some metal arms holding on to the side. They're either part of the dry dock or some Combine tech.
- zephyr32, on 07/20/2008, -0/+3oh also, for everyone's interest:
The first picture is art from Episode Three depicting a Combine Advisor battling Gordon Freeman, who is holding a crowbar
No clue in the slightest how the hell the environment fits in with the supposedly arctic setting though. Only time will tell
The second picture _might_ be from Episode Three. The canyon building looks very much like Combine architecture in the previous Half-Life 2 games.
Picture three's obviously Fallout 3
No idea 'bout four
Five's obviously Episode Three again. Gordon Freeman standing near a Russian-esque residential building with an arm of Combine city-eaters hanging over him
Over all, this art looks absolutely kick ass and I can't wait to see what the finished products will be like - appleseed1234, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Dugg for Mr. Babyman...
Only because I wanted to be the first. - bludo, on 07/20/2008, -1/+3WTF, who diggs down Craig Mullins !!!?
He is one of the best artists of our time! - Stevo23, on 07/20/2008, -13/+15Buried for Mr.babyman
- jimmick, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2I dugg this article up.
You're just kissing Freakdomination's ass. - autobulb, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2This is a refreshing change from alot of modern day games where (in my opinion) the focus of the gaming medium has changed from 'art' into a an attempt to depict reality as close as possible.
- pauls88, on 07/20/2008, -12/+15Help Support The Bury The Baby Campaign!
- eelwrolyat, on 07/20/2008, -1/+3Dugg for Fallout 3 (the one with the Capitol Building). And wtf was that last one?
- FreakyT, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2If you go to the actual site, http://www.intothepixel.com/artwork/2008_contest_w ... the games are all listed.
- otros, on 07/20/2008, -1/+2Why would you submit the obvious lesser quality one (destructiod) and not this one.
I have never truly believe that the top diggers were paid, but this is very confusing. - ArkRaider1936, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1One is of Metropolis destroyed. The globe that has fallen in the middle of the street say DAILY PLANET.
- skoles, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1www.conceptart.org if you want to go to the source of some of the artists.
- widgetmaker, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I was hoping for some in game screen shots not just concept art, some of the guild wars stuff is impressive in game not just as art work for example, the wastelands of stalker and expanses of Oblivion could also work. Still some impressive images there.
- DuffyDirect, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Has anyone ever seen the art sets from the old Sierra On-line Civil War Generals series? There was this one painting that was called "On to Richmond" that had WT Sherman smoking a pipe on his horse while the Army of the Cumberland marched through Atlanta (I'm assuming) as it burnt -- it was one of the most impressive paintings I've ever seen and it was made for a video game... :-)
- Lunarbunny, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Too bad rendering technology has yet to turn games into fully-realized implementations of concept art. You look at things like collector's edition art books and how much something gets reduced just to work in the polygonal constraints of real-time 3D rendering.
- sonofblacula, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1At least one is from The Secret World, an upcoming MMO from Funcom set in the modern day with an H.P Lovecraft flavor.
- BedPost, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I've seen most of those images before, but his very last image - the one of Halo - is fantastic. I wish that came in 1600x1200, because I'd love to use that as a background.
- scottsutherland, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1THANK YOU
- nexxau, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I work for a games developer, and our concept artists spend all day drawing awesome ***** like this. I envy them. It's hanging on the walls around them and it's just awesome to take a break and check it out from time to time.
Unfortunately very little concept art ever gets release for games. Images like this would do a better job at showing off a game than some poor pre-alpha screenshots ever could. - SquigglyP, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1I'd also recommend the sijun forums - especially the speedpainting thread. Almost 1000 pages (so far) in one thread of awesome images on par with all of these. Probably some of the same artists as well.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/20/2008, -7/+8MrBabySpam buried!
- sfour, on 07/20/2008, -0/+0 I suspected that a couple of those were Stephane Martiniere's; he's amazingly talented.
- lildeviI, on 07/20/2008, -0/+0It's a collection of concept art.
This is the preliminary art that is helps to design game maps and set a tone for the development of the game proper. Basically the first stages of making games. Some concept art may be refined into fully finished pieces which can be used on loading screens, posters or other promo items. - onux16, on 07/20/2008, -2/+2why not rename this to "Impressive Art from Guild Wars and Others"? 25% of those pictures were from Guild Wars. I mean, come on!
- Sornos, on 07/20/2008, -2/+1Many Diggers will auto-bury any comment with a link in it. Most assume it's just blog spam.
- bongwater29, on 07/20/2008, -1/+0Buried for not giving credit to the artists or even telling us which game the pics came from. Check out Crilix's post for the info on the pictures.
- philodygmn, on 07/20/2008, -3/+2CAPTIONS??!!! NEXT link at the _bottom_ of the images? instead of having to scroll down then back up on smaller screens? WTF, Destructoid?!
- fsuarez2005, on 07/20/2008, -2/+1sites need to use thumbnails
- arsonist18, on 07/20/2008, -1/+0i didnt recognize a single one of those pics
- Carbonlord, on 07/19/2008, -7/+1Awesome!
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -10/+3ruined Washington DC = Fallout 3 coming out this October. It should be good, Fallout has been a critically acclaimed series, with similar praise as games such as Oblivion, Half-Life 2, and Halo. Why haven't you heard of it? Fallout 2 was released in 1998, and it was an RPG/Strategy game.
- joemofo214, on 07/20/2008, -10/+3*****, i accidentally dugg, and when i try to undigg, it says undefined.
damn you mr babyman, you know how to get and keep diggs. - inactive, on 07/19/2008, -14/+1"Incredible" ART work......................
