Looks great so far... gonna get deeper into it. Free games of this quality are rarities. - chillout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Because it's four people working in their spare time who all have the latest version of Windows. Why would they want to make a pointless downgrade to 2000?

- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14see it in action:
mov: http://penumbragame.com/downloads/penumbra_trailer.mov
avi: http://penumbragame.com/downloads/penumbra_trailer.avi
looks much better than alot of the free games around. - linz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Hmm...this is quite impressive:
"Penumbra was created by a small team of students, four people to be exact and a couple of helpers that did specific tasks such as voice-overs and music. We worked on the project between September 2005 and April 2006, the engine is completely in-house developed."
Maybe 3d Realms could hire these guys to work on Duke Nukem Forever...and get the game done ;-) - tytanium0503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Um, I can do alot more in this engine than in the half life 2 engine. The half life 2 engine is great and all, but this is much more interactive
- cryonix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7so i played it, didnt get too far. but it did a good job getting me ready for a scare, havent run into anything. but its pretty taxing on my lame PCI videocard so im not getting the full experience. looks good anyway. ill just wait to see if the "monsters" will make me jump. if they do, job well done.
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Minimum requirements:
CPU 1Ghz, RAM 512MB, Radeon 9600/Geforce FX - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Looks slightly better than Quake 2 Evolved, I'd say.
http://www.quake2evolved.com/odium/q2e_techmap_16aug_4.jpg
Most impressive, considering it was built from scratch. - herrshuster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There isn't one. If you read the forums, people are trying to get a linux port. Try WINE
- TehOompa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Looks pretty damn nice.
- Nick42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4As far as the main menu and the intro are concerned, it works perfectly in Wine. It quits out on me as soon as the intro ends, but I'm using an unsupported graphics card, so it may not be a Wine issue in my case.
- Kupotek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's available to download at download.com
http://www.download.com/Penumbra/3000-7504_4-10536436.html - Kupotek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Requirements Windows XP
- MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Not to be rude, that is not original but a copy of the physics engine used in Half Life 2.
Now everyone is copying it."
Yes, cause everything in that engine is original...
Most of it has been done long ago. It just wasn't shiny until we got the graphics cards we have today. - dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ive been playing this for a while now (had the day off)
its a pretty good game overall! i would call it more of a first person puzzle type game though, rather than a first person shooter (at least what ive seen of it so far, played it for about an hour and a half, and no guns in sight) but i don't mind that at all, gives the game a uniqueness about it.
also, the implementation of the physics engine is amazing! you can pick up/throw practically anything! and i love the way you can interact with objects like draws and lockers by moving the mouse in the direction you want to pull the item (like the part where you have to move your mouse in a circular motion to turn the valve and shut off the steam) - bshocked, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The main site isnt working for me. Heres a download mirror: http://www.download.com/Penumbra/3000-7504_4-10536436.html
- FortyCaliber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Electric switch on wall.
How do you kill the second one? 5 dynamite and nothing... but I killed myself on the last one. - painfulpillow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You cant kill him, I even tried hitting him with chairs.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1grr. im stuck now. i just got the email from the computer, now where do i go? :/
- abacadabbra, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6wow all these nice games on digg lately thank you contributors! i'm downloading now...
- MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"any confirmation on Linux support?"
Not that I saw on the site, but they also didn't list any OS, so who knows. Downloading the Zip now to see.
I'll try in Cedega and Wine if there ins't one and post my results. - mikemcewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so I got to the bottom, opened the door with the swipe card and cod and I go in an elevator and die...it it just one level?
- leetcharmer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3they should GPL it >:D
- p5ych0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm guessing it's the graphics card, same thing happened with my old geforce 4 mx card but not my 6800 ultra, could be that it requires one that supports pixel shading.
- makario, on 09/03/2009, -2/+2I can't seem to play it. It loads fine, and goes through the story intro, but after the loading scene following the intro, it abruptly terminates.
I have Windows XP, a gig of RAM, and a 64MB video card, but I don't know the problem.
I know Digg's not the place for tech support, but their server's been slammed, so any advice would be appreciated. - mdshort, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4http://duggmirror.com/
EDIT: Argh! Damn linked news *****...
BTW any confirmation on Linux support? - DevilDriver, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Free Game? Digg++++!
- freemustard, on 02/20/2009, -0/+0It won't download, it says it's not a vaild Win32 application. Are there alternate formats? Help is appreciated.
- Xenogis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Once again, Linux users don't get the games. :( I was looking forward to playing it since free usually comes with Linux.
- pkaulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the motion blur is so impressive... why haven't any other games done it? It hardly slows down the frame rate at all and looks fantastic.
- makario, on 09/03/2009, -2/+2I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (yeah, I'm on a notebook). Could that be it?
- petrified, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0To download go to http://www.megagames.com/news/html/freegames/penumbra.shtml click on the download tab at the top and you will find two links for the game. Should be simple and fast enough for most.
- herrshuster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm getting 140 KBs down. I don't know what the problem is. Anyway, this looks great, I'm dowloading now
- lerris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://70.36.112.22:6969 -- only 768kbps upload though
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Looks as good as doom 3.
- burn23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1time to upgrade your mac and dual boot into XP! I've been doing it since bootcamp was released and i havent been playing games on my consoles (ps2,xbox,gc, et all) since. i < 3 my intel iMac
- indirect, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I've played through a bit. I think it's excellent for such a small group of people.
microspoiler question: How to kill the 1st monster? - Hydroxyl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Thanks for the link, heh. Wasn't have too much luck finding mirrors.
Also, those screenshots sold me on this game. Downloading now... - SamboGT, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Oh, don't tell me it's XP-only! Why the heck do people develop for XP-only? Why would I want to make a pointless upgrade from 2000?
- WermerSkoch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Anybody willing to set up a torrent of the file? Their server is crawling.
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3And another server bites the dust.
- wetworx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Uh, where is the Mac version?
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Sorry i'm not registered on any tracker. Someone make .torrent. I'll seed it
- FortyCaliber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1PCI videocard?
Holy sheez. Keep it bro.
Fight the big video card indsutry! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Looks impressive!
But...I love how they don't release operating system requirements on that page...something tells me us Mac users are going to be left in the dust...again. :-( - Kupotek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Not to be rude, that is not original but a copy of the physics engine used in Half Life 2.
Now everyone is copying it.
Anyway I got to this room with a fuel can and I cannot seem to pick it up lol.
I like how it works too, a far cry from the old Zork days, eh? - mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Ooops. wrong button.
