- RevChris2, on 02/19/2009, -3/+47of course they planned on holding characters back and adding them in for a fee , welcome to the new reality of games , no more unlockables just pay per unlock DLC
- Gnarstache, on 02/19/2009, -0/+29Street Fighter IV: 4th Strike Turbo Championship Hyper Fighting Alpha HD Remix
- vondrak, on 02/19/2009, -2/+27This really grinds my gears. I saw it happen with Maga Man 9. Buy Protoman for $2, buy another difficulty level for $1!? They nickle and dime you for extra things that should be included in the game.
- gaqua, on 02/19/2009, -2/+23Whatever, you don't know what you're talking about. Capcom is ***** us just like Toyota ***** me.
I bought a brand new Toyota Camry and it was filled with gas and now every week or so I have to GO AND FILL IT UP WITH GAS AGAIN. I had it checked out for a gas leak but apparently this is a "feature" and the guys in the service center just told me that "this is how cars work" which is ***** absurd.
Never again, Toyota. - mywhitenoise, on 02/19/2009, -0/+16Megaman was one of the worst offenders. They had everything ready to go at launch, but purposely took it out of the final release to make a $10 game $20.
The only game that has fair DLC is Rock Band, and online games like Warhawk (even then at least one of the maps should have been a free patch). - YouRookies, on 02/19/2009, -0/+12RIP Cheat Codes. DLC is here to stay.
- Exhaust, on 02/19/2009, -0/+11My only beef is them releasing the DLC a day after the game releases especially something small like an extra costume. Obviously something small like that could have fit on the disc and being that its coming out right at launch it just screams of nickel and dime syndrome.
That being said people that are totally anti-DLC are also retarded. Content costs money. Things like The Lost and the Damned are where the cost is worth every single penny. Could have come out a little sooner but fine art cannot be rushed. - RevChris2, on 02/19/2009, -0/+10I like DLC when it is done right (see Oblivion, Fallout 3,Warhawk,Buzz!, Burnout Paradise and GTA 4) and adds value to the game but not when it is used to suck money from you on content already developed or that you would have been able to earn through gameplay in the past (see Oblivion ,Soul Calibur 4,Megaman 9, and my worst offender The Eye of Judgement).
There is a big difference between providing IceCream (like the guy above mentions) and just providing the spoon when the IceCream is already on the plate. - djpray2k, on 02/19/2009, -0/+9I disagree. Sometimes they take the soft option on XBLA, with old games placed on there for 800+ points with none or little changes. SFIV, although keeping the basics is a big leap forward, making it 'next gen' would turn it in to a Dead Or Alive clone. Or worse still, would you want to see SF leap in to the next gen the same way Mortal Kombat did?
- Rethcir, on 02/19/2009, -0/+9How are you reading this then?
- Demener, on 02/19/2009, -0/+7@gaqua: Your comparison made me laugh, but I feel obligated to point out it would be more accurate if Toyota sold the gas instead of the oil companies.
- kinseyincanada, on 02/19/2009, -0/+7i just got this game and after playing it for a few hours i realized how god awful i am at fighting games.
- bethlagarrison, on 02/19/2009, -0/+7Any Third Strike character. I don't even care which one at this point.
- serif69, on 02/19/2009, -0/+6Down, down-forward, forward, punch.
- Exhaust, on 02/19/2009, -1/+7So why is Tekken or Virtua Fighter worth $60 but SF IV isn't? Because the characters can't move between 3D depth levels?
Based on your comment any classic IP that is rebooted should release for $40 because "nostalgia" isn't enough to warrant full price regardless of the gameplay mechanics. - ZackScott, on 02/19/2009, -0/+6For nostalgia purposes, I think each play in arcade mode should be a 25 cent DLC.
- ELCad, on 02/19/2009, -0/+6Valve let's me have my cake and it too. Team Fortress 2 is over 2 years and still getting 100% free DLC.
- xprojects, on 02/19/2009, -5/+11You people are ridiculous. The game has 25 characters. They did not sell you half a game, you got all 25 characters for your purchase price. Who cares if they have another few characters that you can purchase at extra cost? YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO THEM. They made a business decision to seek extra profit by making extra characters, that was the plan. It does not matter if they finished the extra characters in time to put them on the disc. Your whining does nothing to deter the businesses who make the games to SEEK PROFIT.
Grow the ***** up and accept that things cost money. More things = more money. Plain and simple. If you don't want to pay for it then don't! It's just that simple and easy. There's companies out there that do give away free content for their games...
I thought you people all pirate your games anyway, what does it matter what they charge for it? You're just going to steal... errr.. copy it anyways. - tgc1, on 02/20/2009, -1/+6Pretty soon you're going to have to pay by the level.
"Please pay 5 dollars for the next level. Buy 3 levels and get the 4th for half price! Extra lives now 1.99, and if you act now, we'll throw in a shield for just one dollar!"
People -- STOP GIVING THESE ***** MONEY! They are getting ideas. - DreamVsPs2, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5SF4: ULTRA CHAMPIONS EDITION
- babyheadout, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5I was hoping SFIV started off with just Ryu and one of his punch moves, and you had to unlock everything else.
- likwidfuzion, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5SF4: HOME BASIC EDITION
SF4: HOME PREMIUM EDITION
SF4: ULTIMATE...
Oh wait, wrong product... - Shadic, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5AREYOUKEN!?
- kingmanic, on 02/19/2009, -0/+5Demener: Obviously it's a shadowy conspiracy between Toyota and the numerous oil companies.
- TimDigg, on 02/19/2009, -5/+10Bring back Dudley...
- deaftly, on 02/20/2009, -0/+5$150 little man, put that ***** in my hand.
- Sony - Ellipsys, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4To everyone who's saying "Bah, you're not entitled to DLC content for free. Why do you think you deserve it?" let me illuminate a few things. First of all, small-transaction DLC is a relatively new phenomena and those of us who have been playing games, especially PC games, for years find it indicates a shift in how customers are viewed. Back in the old days, expansion packs were available for half to a quarter of original price (usually $25-30, sometimes less). These provided large amounts of content - new levels, new characters ,new weapons, new story, and more. Typically it could provide at least 1/2 again the additional content, to 100% "more" game.
Anything less than this, was released in terms of free patches. Patches not only fixed bugs and tweaked balance, but also provided FREE bonus content to players as a "thank you" for purchasing the game, and incentive to keep playing and tell your friends. It worked. Much of what we see as DLC today would have been free years ago - costumes, extra weapons, horse armor, mini-missions and new game modes. The elimination of free patches (and note, due to licensing issues if a console version of a game has paid DLC, the PC is NOT ALLOWED to release it for free. See Oblivion on this one), shows a new era of nickle and dimeing players for every cent Where "almost finished" content before was released for free in the first major patch, now stuff that is already on the disc is taken OUT! Is it really any wonder that customers don't feel valued with all the DLC, DRM, and other consumer-unfriendly facets of gaming today? People who remember a better time will resist these changes. - contradictator, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4Oh *****, CONTINUITY ERROR!
- bethlagarrison, on 02/19/2009, -1/+5So, what, the 25-character roster isn't enough for you? Seriously? They even added 6 new characters, just for the home version, in addition to making the bosses unlockable.
I'm all for new characters as DLC, as long as they take time to balance them properly. And I don't have a problem with paying for them.. nor do I understand why anyone would have a problem with that. A 25-character roster for a fighting game using a totally new engine, that's unheard of. - reyoo30309, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4I payed 60 dollars for the game, I refuse to pay for characters that should have been included with the game in the first place.
- mozert, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4WTF don't yell at us
- smacksaw, on 02/19/2009, -1/+5If Champion Edition is an upgrade and you get a bunch of characters for $10, I think that's a good value for everyone.
SFIV goes down in price in a few months to $40 and you release SFIV:CE for $60, but offer people who had the game installed before CE a $10 upgrade. Everyone wins. I think that's a good value. It reminds me of Rock Band 2. I appreciate getting all of the songs for a flat price, but not paying to import my old songs. I think that people who are already users should get rewarded with a discount, not punished with extra fees or forced to buy an entirely new version. - Equinox1, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4SFIV is well worth the purchase, so stop being an uninformed dickbag and get lost.
- dafragsta, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4Lots of games have fair DLC. Microsoft needs to put it's foot down and stop this *****. A difficulty level? Are you kidding me? Hiding Darth Vader and Yoda on the actual disc and not just offering the unlock after an exclusivity window? That's just nasty greed.
- YouRookies, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4Fighting games are the HARDEST games to learn. Don't be discouraged by the difficulty. IMO, it's what makes the game interesting because of the high replay value. The good players weren't just good the instant they played the game. We all sucked when we started playing.
- RevChris2, on 02/19/2009, -0/+4hey , thanks for explaining how money and business works I sure needed the refresher. Also thanks ALOT for capitalizing RANDOM PHRASES and WORDS so the hard of hearing could understand the scary and complex topics you covered.
- Exhaust, on 02/19/2009, -1/+4Its not about being cheap mywhitenoise. Smacksaw makes a good point. You already bought those 55 tracks. You own them but in order to use them in the sequel which is EXACTLY the same game as the original except with different tracks you have to pay again. It doesn’t matter how much.
If I'm not mistaken your the same person posting every chance you get about how the DLC for GTA IV isn't worth the price... Hmmm I wonder why you would have a different position on that DLC... - DNAspark99, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3I would REALLY like to see a SF:IV vs MARVEL (+ vs CAPCOM too?) - done in the same new 3D style.
MAKE IT HAPPEN! - kingmanic, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3The retail pipeline is at least a month deep. If they made the DLC recently it could not have been included.
- awtripp, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3TURBO!
- STKD, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Well they have in fact already mentioned that there will probably be a Championship edition and that they want to make one.
Let the brand milking begin! - mattyboy555, on 02/20/2009, -0/+3Where is my Marvel vs Capcom 3? :(
- ZackScott, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3So far I've had a lot of fun with SFIV. When I downloaded SFII HD Remix, I grew tired of it within a day because I had played it all before countless of times. SFIV is more than just better graphics. It is a game of its own, and the gameplay is different.
- smergs, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3With Mega Man 9 I didn't see any reason to pay for the extras. I purchased the game and that was it. I'm assuming (probably dumb of me) that no one else bought that stuff. If they did they are ruining it for the rest of us. Hopefully they didn't make extra off of the Mega Man DLC and that will teach Capcom that we want those types of things for free.
- Atex55, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3Hopefully it will be DLC and not have a fee, but there are already a lot of characters in the game so I'm not to worried about it. It's a super fun game, i would recommend it to anybody who like fighting games. I got it yesterday and played it for 9 hours straight with my friend and had to be pulled away. It's worth the money and not just for nostalgia as pointed out above.
- javness, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3i just bought street fighter 4, and my ps3 stopped reading discs after i played it. what the ***** capcom
- Muffinhunter, on 02/19/2009, -0/+3please god add makoto =(
- TheXboxReview, on 02/19/2009, -0/+2I would buy new fighers as DLC. But just repackaging the game for another $60, and a few new things/characters? No ***** way.
- ZackScott, on 02/19/2009, -0/+2I think fighting games are so hard to learn because it often comes down to muscle memory and quick reflexes. It is kind of similar to the old arcade games of the early 80s. Some people are experts at those, but if I try playing one, I can last until level 3 maybe? These types of games can be punishing if you don't get practice in.
- MasterPain, on 02/20/2009, -0/+2If the money doesn't show then you owe me owe me owe.
