- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Yep, because apple invented white with rounded edges.
- nobley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Oi! I was BORN white with rounded edges, I claim prior art.
- gaijintendo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Also, apple invented White - subsequently leading to the invention of Black
- kendals, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Once you go Black...
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17The Wii would cost 10,000 and it would only make your living room look more metro-sexual. Oh and it would definitely not play games, mabye weird techno music 24/hrs a day so you can feel even more metro-sexual.
- h0zae, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12the iwii
- robschraer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10For an encore Apple then goes on to prove that black is white and gets killed on the next penguin crossing.
- Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'd rather see Apple buy SGI and do some interesting stuff revitalizing the high end computer generated graphics industry
- skatingrox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7+digg for the Hitchhiker's reference.
- kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"I've built plenty of computers, and it's a hassle I am sick of going through- it's a waste of time I don't have. I like Apple- it JUST works. All the people out there that bag Apple for no reason other than to be seen as 'l33t' or cool are completely the opposite, and are conforming to another trend- grow up."
Word. I've built my share of computers and rebuilt everything from lowly x86 boxes to Sun and SGI workstations. There's something to be said for having an all-in-one machine with clean lines, good parts, and Applecare. Not to mention having an OS that fits your wants and needs, after two decades of wrangling with Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, NeXTSTEP, IRIX, Solaris, and Classic.
Nothing against people who don't like Apple -- hey, if you don't like it, don't use it -- but don't assume that every (or even a large minority) Mac owner is computer illiterate or wears black turtlenecks and berets, purchases iPod socks, and drinks coffee that costs more per fluid ounce than heroin. - SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9...you never go mac.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd be more interested in Apple buying Tivo. That seems like a perfect match.
- AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ha ha ha, you think the Gamcube flopped?
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just got a disturbing image of mario in a black turtleneck sweater, with every level consisting of brushed metal rouded blocks on a white background, and instead of killing you, the enemies just comment on how simple and clean everything is and wonder how they ever lived back when colors used to exist.
- StrangeInt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, there's that and the fact that Nintendo is also a deeply, deeply Japanese company -- even if the big N weren't over a century old and weren't in possession of enough ¥money¥ to drown Scrooge McDuck, there's no chance in hell that they'd allow themselves to be bought out some upstart 30-year-old gaijin outfit with little to no experience in the actual workings of electronic gaming. I'm a happy user of both Apple and Nintendo products, and I can't see for the life of me what possible advantage either party would derive from a merger/buyout.
Could this meme please die now? - SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3iWii would be a proper way of putting it.
- rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ramble: Just because you build it, doesn't mean its going to look nice. Mine looks like crap, but i dont mind. It (usually) works.
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apple knows nothing of video games, stick to what you know.
- rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just because we don't NEED sgi, doesn't mean that they still cant sell $40,000 dollar computers.
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can Apple afford Nintendo? They've been making money hand over fist for over a hundred years. I'd be very surprised if Nintendo would allow themselves to be bought in the first place. The last thing they would want is for Steve Jobs (or his subordinate assigned to the gaming division) telling them how to do things.
- iburl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Steve Jobs was often heaping praise on Sony around 1999-2001 or so for their design, and "brand". He was also, at that time, stressing Apple's commitment to gaming (uh-huh). It made me wonder if there might be a deal in the works between Sony and Apple. Apple needed (needs) more games and Sony wanted (wants) to sell more games. Sony was (is?) losing money on each console sale. It seemed to me that all they would need to is to sell a USB Playstation controller, dump some sony chip into the iMac, and bump the price up $200. Everybody is happy. Apple has access to a vast library of first rate games, Sony makes money on a licensing deal with Apple and by selling more games, Apple makes more money. Why can't something like this work? Why wouldn't Apple work a deal like this with Nintendo or Sony (thought please not microsoft, I was born to hate them.) I bet it has something to do with "branding", Jobs is very keen on this concept and so is Sony. Neither company wants to dilute their "brand" with the other companies' product.
- kendals, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ Ramble. I've been building computers for 10 years. What's with people making invalid assumptions from lack of evidence? It seems to be a common thing around here- stop being so darned ignorant!
I've built plenty of computers, and it's a hassle I am sick of going through- it's a waste of time I don't have. I like Apple- it JUST works. All the people out there that bag Apple for no reason other than to be seen as 'l33t' or cool are completely the opposite, and are conforming to another trend- grow up. - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"Use what? Intuitive, efficient, elegantly aesthetic computers? And here was me thinking Dell did that!"
Evidently you've never built a computer then. - echosierratwo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5that'd be a samich! yummy.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, Why would anyone want apple of all companies to make an alligence with Nintendo? I mean, Sega would make sense, nvidia would make sense, but apple? What was the last great gaming feat they accomplished? Marathon?
- kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not everyone who brushes their teeth and clips their fingernails is metrosexual. Either way, whatever gets me looking less like a gamer.
"isn't that what most apple products do?"
Congratulations, you got the joke. *roar of applause* - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What do you guys mean Apple buy Nintendo. Don't you realize Nintendo has more money than Apple?
- kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It'd be nice. The two companies could definitely learn from each other.
- kalisphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That'd be completely silly. SGI has nothing that is worth anything at this point. Linux might not be as good a UNIX for graphics as IRIX, but its ability to run on Goodwill hardware trumps IRIX completely. SGI's MIPS processor? Don't be silly. Apple just barely disentangled itself from one processor that was a dead-end performance-wise -- they're not going to pick up another. SGI's industrial design? Nice, but dated, and certainly inconsistent. SGI's internal design? Hardly a headline anymore, although I admit that I'd like an SGI Tezro running OS X.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The games industry is driving the consumer graphics hardware industry at such a break-neck pace that we don't really need professional, $100,000+ graphics equipment anymore. Anything that the high-end professional industry comes up with for their own need will be eclipsed just a few years later because of the intense innovation from content providers in the games industry, and the intense competition driving the market.
THIS is the reason that SGI and companies like that have been out of the lime light for many years. - usefulmoose, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Then we would have a wet dream of a digg post title, wouldn't we.
- hamstereater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could see this happening if Apple was a Japanese company, but otherwise...
- shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2a DIY troll!
- hitman47, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What's next? Microsoft taking over Sony ?
- po6ot, on 10/12/2007, -15/+14They both made cubes... that flopped.
- AKBryant54, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3@ hackaroxp
the "Apple ][" (2) - nobley, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9In Maori Iwi means tribe
- dol3n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Course we never got around to deciding which one would be the pants wearer.
- SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5You deserve 10,000 cookies for that comment. That was hilarious.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3isn't that what most apple products do?
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7If Apple owned Nintendo there wouldn't be any games for the consoles.
- kendals, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5Use what? Intuitive, efficient, elegantly aesthetic computers? And here was me thinking Dell did that!
- spoonard, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3What if Microsoft owned Apple? And Nintendo owned both of them??
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1+digg for the anti-mac comment. Mac's following is pointless. "I love the loss of functionality because the OS is really nice and it looks freaking cool!" Yeah, next time I buy something to just set it up and look at it, it will be a PSP. That's going to be a long time from now.
- hackaroxp, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Apple didn't invent anything, they were just the 1st ones to use it.
- dol3n, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0We discussed this on our podcast! What if Apple and Ninetendo had a baby?
http://thekongshow.com/smf/index.php?topic=42.0 - danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3the ds lite looks very Applelish...i'm wondering if Apple has infiltrated Nintendo...hmmmm
