Check out the first Digg Dialogg with Nancy Pelosi. More guests to be announced soon!
I will have 2 Wiis before I have 1 PS3
1up.com — A 1Up.com blog- one of the best I've ever seen.
- 1496 diggs
- digg it
- aggies11, on 10/12/2007, -8/+51Pretty much a gamer's manifesto, except much more positive and uplifting, on the upcomming console war.
A love letter to gaming.
Aggies- roar84, on 10/12/2007, -100/+11stop posting blogs on digg.. There is already enough biased redundant commentary on digg from its users.
- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+60@roar84
Blogs are totally relevant and fair game when the are host to well thought-out and interesting arguments/articles. Blogs are NOT fair game when they simply say, check out this link. In that case, the digg story should go straight to the link and not give the blog any credit/traffic for being "news".
Learn to tell the difference. - BrowncoatJedi, on 10/12/2007, -52/+4What a whiny little bitch.
- roar84, on 10/12/2007, -89/+6hey brown coat jedi, just by looking at your log name and the fact you love the wii, i assume you are probably a 30 year old fag who lives in his parents house who spends their unemployed life looking a internet porn and message boards. Also the fact that you will curse from the saftey of your computer screen without being provoked, tells me you probably grew up as a pussy and still are, because daddy wasnt around to raise you. Go to hell you star wars loving, queer.
and nintendo still sucks - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+47@roar84
Congrats. It takes a big man to insult some anonymous guy on the Internet.
Also, I'm guessing the "84" in your name is your IQ. - mrkmrk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18ahell: osnap. That is all. And 84 must be a typo, because that's a bit high for someone like this.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Well, this pretty much sums up what 90% of all Digg users haven been trying to say since the infamous words "Five-hundred and ninety-nine dollars." We just havent been able to put it as eloquently.
The PS3 is the epitome of Sony's arrogance as a result of 10 years on top of the video game world. - Stalks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9He calls you whiny, and you return with a whine.
Oh the irony. - championchap, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Well, as much as i think the Wii is going to make me forget about women.. im pretty sick of all the "OMG Wii! *Splooge!*" commenters that are about
i love the wii for being somethign different, its a real breath of fresh air in an industry going stale.
Im sure im not the only gamer who is pretty unexcited by the prospect of simply a more powerful system.
Having said that, i will buy the Wii60 combo package because as much as i love the idea of the Wii, there will be times when i just want to wrap my hands around a pad and let loose on burnout 3. - ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Slow anti-PS3 day again..?
- decay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"What Sony needs to quickly freakin' realize is that video game systems are a luxury, not a necessity."
Classis. - SocialPoison, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I'll admit, there's a little Nintendo Fan-Boy deep in my heart that jumped for joy at that article. I was behind Nintendo all the way up from the 8-bit days until the Game Cube... where the PS2 simply took over (I still play Smash Bros on my N64). The Wii is bringing me back to the Nintendo wing... and I'm very excited.
My roommate is as much of a Sony fan boy as I am a Nintendo one... which has made for some interesting discussions. November is going to be an exciting month. It crossed my mind that we might run into "TV Real estate" issues, with both of us owning new systems at the same rough time.
But then something occurred to me:
I'll be able to get a Wii on the 19th with fairly good certainty. I bet the GameStop in Bellingham gets two PS3s, and unless my roommate shanks one of the lucky buyers on their way out the door then there's no way he's getting one.
So he'll be saying a PS3 would be awesome as he pouts in his chair.... while I play Red Steel. - socbret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great "...and you will know us by the Trail of Dead" reference at the begining too..
- marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Browncoat, that was so stupid that I had to digg you down twice for it.
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -67/+14Digg should be renamed to Wiigg... All Nintendo all the ***** time.
- latova, on 10/12/2007, -47/+3bury.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+46The content on digg has always reflected what people are interested in. Sucks for you if you dislike what's popular. =P
- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33if you dont wanna read nintendo news get off the game topics..
- |ant|, on 10/12/2007, -51/+10If the wii is whats popular, our gaming lives are doomed. I'll stick with the 360 and ps3. Yea, go ahead pussy fanboy's, digg me down.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Not really "our". Just yours.
- ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20perhaps that is a reflection that the Wii is actually worth reading about.
- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1Totally agree with that statement, of course we're both likely to be digged down by the Nintendo fans who seem to own the gaming area of this site (for some weird reason, LOL).
Oh well. - angelof, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Just wondering if you hate the Wii and Nintendo so much, why do you read the article and take the time to comment. Is it possible you are a closet Nintendo fan?
- Stalks, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11The only console I will ever own, is an Xbox. And I only use it a media centre (xbmc is so, so good), but I digg you both down not because of any sort of fanboism, but because you are being a jealous jerk.
What gives you the need to post negative comments on a Nintendo article? Do you really feel _that_ threatened?
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -15/+7The ending was very touching. Aww.
- jfujita, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19I wish I had two wii
- epilonious, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Drink some more water.
[/couldn't resist] - zone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I rather get 1 plus 4 controlers.. and party up!
- epilonious, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Drink some more water.
- Donza, on 10/12/2007, -33/+3Damn those screen shots are ugly. Well at least its cheap console...
- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11maybe those screens look like crap b/c they are not full size.. just maybe.
- vernsan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9They're bigger resolution pictures just made smaller so it looks even more jagged.
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34what's odd is, the first thing i thought when i first saw the zelda shot on top was 'wow, that looks like so much fun to play'. not 'wow those graphics are great' (even though they are), but it just made me really excited to PLAY it. its been awhile since i've seen a screenshot that make me think more about the game itself then how many fragments a barrel can explode into...
can't wait. - Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22"the first thing i thought when i first saw the zelda shot on top was 'wow, that looks like so much fun to play"
Yes, exactly! Games have become more beautiful but boring and monotonous. Hopefully the Wii will put the fun back in gaming. I have always had fun playing Zelda and Mario games, not so much with Halo and the like.
- Mudcrutch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39great line:
"But to go from the perma-archival quality of DVD, which still looks really ***** sharp on the right set-up, to go to Blu-Ray's more better sharpness? The need isn't really there, yannow? If the average person really needed high-definition anything then why the hell is YouTube so popular?"- jdoo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8Because youtube hosts small clips. can you imagine trying to watch a movie like the matrix or a tv show like lost on youtube? dvd, hddvd, bluray all provide a different experience than youtube
- rmany2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I watch Chappelle's Show, Colbert Report, and other TV show clips on there all the time and it doesn't bother me a bit. I'm interested in the content.
Same concept for Wii, I want games that hold my attention on gameplay, not on graphics alone. - shaggtastic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6YouTube is popular and people don't care about its image quality because it is free.
[/captain obvious]
I do, however, agree that BluRay/HD-DVD is unnecessary (especially until one of them becomes a standard format). - Timmaay, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0"what's odd is, the first thing i thought when i first saw the zelda shot on top was 'wow, that looks like so much fun to play'. not 'wow those graphics are great' (even though they are), but it just made me really excited to PLAY it. its been awhile since i've seen a screenshot that make me think more about the game itself then how many fragments a barrel can explode into..."
EXACTLY!
- bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24I am still not purchasing anything by Sony after the root kit problem their audio CDs caused... and with this article I am reminded of all the Walkman and Discman products I had that broke for no obvious reason.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Now that you mention it, I remember in college we had 3 ps2's that were in varying states of broken. They were all out of warranty so we'd have to try all sorts of ridiculous stuff to make them work. Eventually one would, so we'd use it until it stopped working agian, and then switch to another one. Anyone else have this problem?
- Charron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Not the same issue, but when I got my PS1 back in the day (and not even in the launch window, mind you, almost a year or two afterwards) it came, in-box, with broken memory card slots. As in, they didn't read memory cards. But we didn't know until we bought a memory card, not long after the warranty expired. It would have cost us the same to repair it or buy an N64, so we bought the N64 and I've never bought a Sony machine since. (Ok, except the monitor that came with my HP computer 'cause they were out of the HP monitor. Even that didn't work right all the time.) Point is, the blog is right, Sony stuff breaks a lot more than it really should, at least in my experience (which is apparently not unique).
- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -32/+1"So hurray for you. "
And it doesn't get much better from there. CRAP blog. CRAP.
I'm lovin' on the Wii as much as the next guy, but that blog was just junk. It sounded like an 11 year old with a mental condition wrote it. (apologies if this is the case)
I love the Wii content flood...but sometimes a guy has to stand up when someone starts flinging ***** in his face.
NO more blogs. NO more 11 year olds. NO more mental conditions.
God I'm in a good mood today.- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Really? I thought it was pretty well put. He came up with some good arguments and examples I hadn't thought of...the Youtube one was best.
- spucky138, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24That blog summed up exactly how I feel about the PS3.
- ccheath, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1you couldn't just digg it and leave it at that? you had to comment to let us know? and now I've got to continue the vicious cycle... sorry
- Catachresis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42"Seriously, art direction accomplishes more than all the bump-maps and bloom lighting in the world."
this, this is the thing. this is the thing right here. - americankgb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Nintendo still has the best hardware out there though. I remember that my friends game boy advance Sp went through a whole cycle in the washing machine and still worked. The only thing that busted was the back light. He called Nintendo and they ended up replacing it. It rather buy a system from a company who is going to back up their products with good support instead of a company who screws their customers *points to ms and Sony.
- bightchee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13When I saw my seven year old nephew step on his Gamecube while running past it I realized Nintendo really is mindful of their demographic and how their products will be handled. I believe this is the reason they declined the idea of installing a hard drive in the Wii.
- royalwcheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"Reggie Fils-Aime once told me that perhaps the GameCube was too inexpensive, leading people to view it as a toy, compared to the price of the competition's hardware. There is, after all, this prevailing mentality that if something is cheap, then it must also be cheap in quality, and that if something is expensive, then it must be quite a piece of machinery."
That is why it is $249 not $199. - Shakermaker, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Technically, based on price point, you could buy 3 Wii for the price of 1 PS3, could you not?
I would LOVE a PS3 if it were the same price as a 360. maybe in a couple years when it comes down in price....- afex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34nope, you can't. 250x3=750.
for more, see 'calc.exe' - h0kiez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Lol @ Afex. I guess he missed the announcement that the Wii is $249.
- Duggy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1$249.99 actually. :-)
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2PLUS GAME!
So the ps3 + $60 = $660. So he's aaalmost at 3 Wiis for 1 ps3.
But if we were to say it's really 3 games with 3 wii's then a PS3 + $180 does put you over the top. - AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree with Moe, even if Wii Sports is woth $20, it's still a free game included. So:
$250 x 3 = $750
$600 + $180 (3 Games) = $780
Three Wiis, all things considered, are still less than one PS3 bought with the same.
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34nope, you can't. 250x3=750.
- Sartori, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20Good for Mr. Mielke.
I'd rather have two 360 or two PS3s than a Wii - both look like they'll have games I enjoy more, which is surely the entire argument settled.
Buy whichever one has the games you like. If that's more than one of them, so be it. Just stop the pissy childish arguments!- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3you voiced your opinion! What an idiot. Prepared to get dugg down.
- AvidPreatorian, on 03/23/2008, -0/+1-16 as of now big guy

- Shabadoo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Any blogger who uses "***** pleez", and "deez nutz" is aces in my book. I wish we could digg twice.
- heycoolx, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3AGREED!!!
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10One of the best articles ever written in the field of gaming. A thousand stars.
- mymidgetfriend, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Can someone mirror or copy/paste it into comments? I can't read it at work.
- dancallahan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3http://www.duggmirror.com/gaming_news/I_will_have_2_Wiis_before_I_have_1_PS3/
- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Never mind, dancallahan has a mirror up. And I refreshed before posting too.
- marvin69, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2No. Now get back to work... got to go boss is coming!
- Evic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Excellent blog. Personally, I've always purchased a Nintendo system - it's always been about the games for me. I still have my SNES, N64, and GC (as well as a DS). I've owned a PS2 and an XBox.
There are periods where my gaming systems sit dormant for 2-3 weeks. I ended up selling the PS2 and the XBox because I never played them.
But the Nintendo systems I simply can not sell - they are to damn fun when I pick it up after 2-3 weeks without playing. The PS2 and XBox games are the same old every time - race around this track, throw this ball, jump here.
Nintendo has consistently made games that wow me in every department. Anyone remember how they felt when they played Mario 64 for the first time! I could not believe how huge the world was - it was awesome.- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The best part is that the NGC games are dirt cheap also.
I recently picked up Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, and Resident Evil 4 (My pick for the best game this gen without a doubt), for a little more than $30.
I've owned all three of this gens systems, and my NGC has been easily getting the most play time. - marvin69, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2"The PS2 and XBox games are the same old every time - race around this track, throw this ball, jump here."
I think you just described every Mario game ever.
- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The best part is that the NGC games are dirt cheap also.
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Great article in my opinion. the only downside is the reverting to LOL and LOLZ and deez nuts, and such. It is a very thoughtful and solid article outside of the dumb comments.
I am more than excited to watch the Wii do well, and watch the PS3 and Xbox360 argue over whose games look better. The only next gen battle that is going on is between the PS3 and XB360, the Wii is in an entirely different league. - pathy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Whimper.
I wish people would stop comparing them. I really do.
As far as I see it the Wii shouldn't be compared to the PS3 and the 360.
The PS3 and the 360 are taking what we already have, and have had for a while, and trying to improve it. That's what they're doing. They're trying to increase the graphics, increase what can be done with games, increase the multiplayer, etc.
They're trying to improve what we already have. There is NOTHING wrong with this. It's FINE AND DANDY. Seriously. They've got their sights set and are trying to improve gaming for people. (Or atleast that's what they're sotra trying. Sony is pushing BluRay a bit too much, but bleh.)
Nintendo are going for a different market. Nintendo, while they will expand the control method of games and make them more accessible. They've said that this is what they're trying to do.
Personally, the whole 'Nintendo is for gamers' thing, I don't buy. Nintendo are trying to make themselves for everyone. This isn't a bad thing either.
It comes down to preference, guys. Now come on. Stop the bashing of the 360 and the PS3 because they use the same control method. I've yet to see one truly inspired way that the Wiimote is used. Although feel free to show me some examples. As a small note, I've played with games that have moveable objects in them (I know there's a golf one on TV at the moment here in the UK), so things like Wii sports won't impress me. Nor will shooters.
The integration of Red Steel impresses me a little, using both the nunchuck and the Wii of course.
Cough... Wrapping up.
Sony and Microsoft are trying to improve what the PS2 and XBox already offered - They are upgrades. They will allow for better games (Whether that be more advanced AI, Physics or Graphics.), and will reach out to more people. (Multiplayer - An area I really think Nintendo needs to expand past it's bloody game codes.)
Nintendo are seeking to remove the boundary of controllers, as well as making games more engaging. They're making their console as friendly as possible to nearly everyone, and they do have some innovative ideas. (The Wiimote storing an avatar I like. Although I don't like the avatars much...)
Remember guys. The platform doesn't make the game. It simply dictates how it plays. Whether that is moving your arms, speaking, tapping a screen, or moving your thumbs and fingers over a pad, keyboard or mouse.- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3>> I've yet to see one truly inspired way that the Wiimote is used.
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/topics/wii_preview/movie/lineup.html - williamhelmick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Sirocco
I wonder how long it'll be before someone gets too involved and accidentally throws their remote at the TV, haha. - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@williamhelmick
I never really thought of that before, but it looks like Nintendo has, having that wrist strap you can wear that is connected to the remote (which I figured was to make sure you dont drop it.. but now that I think of it, having it as back up so you dont throw it seems nice as well)
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3>> I've yet to see one truly inspired way that the Wiimote is used.
- Rebornhunter321, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'll end up buying a PS3, but only for Metal Gear Solid 4...and any other good game that comes out.
I know I'll get a Wii, I mean hell...I dreamed I had a Wii last night...and for those of ya'll who didn't...it was COOL lol.- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm still waiting to see what the game looks like. The cut scenes look really pretty, but when will we see game footage?
Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_4
"Despite all existing trailers being rendered in real-time using the game engine, no actual gameplay footage has been shown to date."
Whenever I hear about MGS4 I wonder if the actual game play will live up to the hype this game is getting.
Also I wonder when it will be released. So far all I've heard is 2007. Not even in the "launch window." - gamer82987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i have never seen the metal gear series ever use cutscenes. all metal gear games are all done in real time (at least from past experiences)..
*sony did have a bad habit of doctoring "real gameplay footage"
- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm still waiting to see what the game looks like. The cut scenes look really pretty, but when will we see game footage?
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I'll probably be buying a wii first, but I know I will eventually be buying a ps3. The games that they have announced for it are well worth the $600, for me: Gran Turismo5, Tekken 6, Monster Hunter 3, Final Fantasy 13?, God of war 3, Devil May cry 4, Ratchet and clank 4?, and Megal Sear solid 4
So unless the system explodes in your face and all the games get canceled I'm anticipating the day that I can buy one.
Which, I think is the state of mind that is part of Sony's strategy. They would be incredibly stupid to think this thing is going to be huge launch seller. The statements about it being able to last for 10 years and the fact that it is highly priced and its a technology overkill (barely anyone even has good enough hdtvs to see the result of blu-ray). Shows that they aren't in this for a quick buck, they are in it for the long-haul. They want to get it out there to the early adopters (as the article points out) to test it out and see its flaws and glitches (like many other new technologies), probably the reason they are launching with so few systems, because they know no one who isn't a huge fanboy with a bundle of money is going to buy this thing within the first couple of months. So they get it out there and once the blu-ray, and many other components, get cheaper they lower the price to get to a bigger group of people until its at more of a flat price that's reasonable. I don't think Sony is launching this blindly. They are a big company. A company that has enough analyst and enough people working out the ps3 strategy to know how to work this out.
On the other hand I could be wrong and the cell and blu-ray could utterly fail and be deemed in-superior, which would end up wrecking sony only for them to revamp or be lost in the pit of failed, once great, companies on the count of ignorance and stupidity. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!!!- JDoggqx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Your post has an interesting point, but I wonder if they can finance the lean years of the console during the 10 year plan. Many people have stated they won't buy a PS3 until it hits $300 or less. If Sony is already taking a huge loss on each PS3, then how soon can they hit $300 in price drops? Even a similar move as the PS2's $100 price drop a little bit after the one year mark would still keep the PS3 out of many people's hands. Meanwhile the 360 and possibly the Wii would probably have also dropped in price.
Lastly it should be inferior, not "in-superior."

- 16777216, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Damn... not a single Wii,Wii joke yet.
- marvin69, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1If it wasn't for the PS3 or Xbox 360 we wouldn't be seeing the Wii for a bunch more years. N loves to stretch their hardware out until they get competition before the decide to update.
- IheartZombies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6so? If it wasn't for nintendo we'd still be playing coleco vision and atari.
- Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The NES was out for about 5 years until the SNES came out. SNES, 5 years. N64, 5 years. Gamecube, 5 years. See a pattern?
They don't stretch their hardware out..they've been releasing systems in the same 5-year cycle every other console manufacture subscribes to (well, not Sony anymore I guess).
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That was the best rant/blog/article that I have ever read.
It's like that guy reached into my head and wrote everything down.
It's nice to see that some people just "get it". - btswrkng, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Makes sense to me: I have two GameCubes and have never owned a PS2.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ironically Milkman is the same guy running the week-long 'cover story' on Ridge Racer 7 over at 1up.com.
- kmbrooks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It doesn't seem so ironic, considering that he interrupts every other paragraph with a mention of his wanting to buy a PS3 for Ridge Racer 7.
- bluto20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great blog. I know how to spell "hootenanny" now. Wiihoo!
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I still have my Original GameBoy! you know, the big grey brick with the tiny black and white screen? from like the 80s? XD
Yup I still have it, and it still works perfectly! Even after my childhood.
NOW THATS QUALITY HARDWARE! LOL
On a more serious OT note, This article was perfect, said things I wanted to say.
And the ending was sad, but I doubt Nintendo will ever be just a memory... There business model will keep them going for years and years... Maybe not in 1st place, but definantly up there. Nintendo's been around for well over 100 years, and they wont be that easilly brought down.
The gamecube erra was a sad one for Nintendo... especially after they were in 1st place for so long... but it was a good kick in the bottum for their company, after they had gotten a bit arrogent... and they needed it... I'm sure it was actualy a good thing for them.
They may never be fully on top ever again... but I think they can remain in a decent 2nd place for years and years and years to come.
For those of us that grew up playing Nintendo games... even if you've moved on to other company's systems... Nintendo still holds a fond memorable place in your hearts, even if u dont know it... - onehrcleaner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I bought an original gameboy in '90, it still works. 16, almost 17 years later. My PS is busted and my 360 already seems unstable.
Nintendo looks better and better with every passing day.- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to be anti-nintendo or anything, but my NES started getting the blue screen of doom back in 1995.
- LethalGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About all the original NES' with those BSoD problem is because the metal contacts in the cartrage slot oxidize. $10 replacement part. Given I've rarely heard of an SNES or N64 having the problem I gather they fixed the mistake.
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm getting less and less impressed by the virtual console deal with wii.
- whitesaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I know this is off-topic, but I just got a widescreen 1080p HDTV and was wondering if Wii games will be widescreen enough to fit on the 16:9 canvas?
- j_bellone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4If you're buying a Wii I suggest you go buy a SDTV to play it on because its going to look like ***** on that television.
- whitesaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmmm... well I know Wii games won't look as good as high defintion, but what I'm asking is why does it say this on the Wii Wikipedia page...?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii
Video:
Up to 480p and will work with a computer monitor as well as any TV or projector
Component (including Progressive scan), S-Video, or composite output
16:9 widescreen support
I'm talking about the 16:9 widescreen support. So I'm assuming that the maximum resolution is basically DVD quality at 720 by 480 pixels right? Thanks. - nerdvernacular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1all first party games are done in 16:9. Nintendo claimed most, if not all games should be done in this method. I'm in the same boat, I'm sure my 1080p set will show all the (lack of) detail. It won't look as good as the counterparts on my 360, but that's not why I'm buying the Wii anyhow.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes- but it will only output in 480p, with component cables.
- stone2020, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This article is spot on.
- Zoglog, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Wow, a fanboy blog. How does this crap reach the front page? Oh yeah, fanboy masses =p
Go have fun with your $60 component cable- TheThing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you don't like this story, why comment to it? Stop trolling. By the way, he expresses the fact that he wants a ps3, therefore he is not a fanboy as you so eloquently put it.
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ordered my 2 from amazon today!
- meepus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2James Mielke wrote one good blog, and he gets digged to the front page? I've written blogs specifically about how this guy's negligent journalism has degraded the quality of 1up's feature articles. Let's digg my irrelevant banter to the front page too! Or not.
- BobArctor88, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1OK Wii is going to be cool don't get me wrong, but if your just going to get the New Zelda on release date and that's it, your wasting 300 bucks when you can be spending 40-50 bucks and get it for Game Cube. I mean like the only game that's gonna get me to get the Wii is Super Smash Brawl. And another thing, Wii without the gimmick controller is just a game cube with internet content. I mean do you guys realize that the only reason why Nintendo made the Wii 250 bucks was not to make everyone a gamer, its just a way to get a ***** load of money with mass sales. And honestly after like 5-6 months are you gonna really still be amazed by the controller. Because if that is the only thing the Wii has to offer is a gimmick controller, its not really that "Next-Gen" don't you think? Like for example it only has a upgraded processor, ram, and internet capability, but the same graphics as the Game Cube. Wii for me is most likely going to be my second or third system that I get, definitely not my first. PS3 knows what next-gen is. And don't give me that crap about it costing too much. If you had a Blue Ray player ($1000+), internet, etc... you would defiantly sell it for a lot. I mean that costs alot to manufacture. So all in all, Wii is cool, but something to go insane over.
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and after all that ... you messed up your final line.
Anyway - don't you get it?
when it comes to the PS3 it seems everyone is saying:
"Buy the PS3 so I can SELL it to someone else" .
But for the Wii everyone seems to be saying
"Buy the Wii so I can PLAY it myself".
See the difference? - Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why are some people afraid that the Wii controller will lose its appeal and become gimmicky in only a few months? We've been using the same basic controller layout for over a decade, and hey, we haven't gotten tired of it yet.
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and after all that ... you messed up your final line.
- Zoglog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3From what I could tell, the Wii's current lineup consists of mediocre games. Wii Sports games have a funky lag that really impacts reactive games like Wii Tennis and mess up the timing. And I don't even have to mention how horrid Red Steel is... (What do you expect when you hear the Ubisoft guy telling people to shoot gangster style with a heavy french accent) I can appreciate the potential for the Wii in the future, but as far as pricing goes, the Wii is just as expensive as the rest.
Just a Wii + Component cables (For 480p) and an extra controller will run you $370. Practically the cost of a 360 and with no hard drive and inferior hardware per se. People like to tout Nintendo as this holy righteous company for gamers when it really is all about profits. Don't let your fanboyism get the best of you. - Penn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0For those of you who can't be arsed to read every word, please take time to re-read it word for word, it really is worth it!
- gomerspile, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Id buy a Wii.....If I was 8 years old. Fortunately Im close to thirty and collecting fruit and coins isn't as fun as it used to be. I understand the PS3 bashing (Im in) what I don't understand is the support for a console like Wii... Zelda twilight princess... Wow, that sounds gayer than christmas. Grow up and buy a 360, we don't collect fruit...we shoot the ***** out of it.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4nice call... but I'm starting to feel like Digg might have a large 8 year old demographic :/
- MoeWasHere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It depends - some people don't like to shoot the ***** out of everything.
See: Japan. - Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Children play videogames? Blasphemy!
Why would a company want to extend to all demographics when you can make a decent profit off Madden, racing games, GTA clones and shooters. After all, being an adult means shooting cops while doing coke off a hookers ass in the back seat of your mercedes. - Penn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@gomerspile
I guess you haven't seen Red Steel on the Wii then?
Will you be trading in your 360 when Viva Pinata arrives? That's a kiddies game you know, and god forbid that xbox 360's could be associated with such games, that's the wii's job right gomerspile? - Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Grow up? You do know what the main demographic of current gamers is, right...?
It may be me, but "Xbox 360" doesn't scream "I'm a grown-up now!" Why are people so insecure about what video games they play....if its fun, play it.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why stop at 2?
If he buys 16 Wii's instead of a PS3 he will have the combined power of a PS3!- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have fuzzy math...
It's actually 21 Wii's almost = 1 PS3
(8 Cores at 3.2Ghz each vs 1 Core at 1.2Ghz) - whitesaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Theoretical performance of the PS3 is quite higher than the Wii this is true, but it's not like you could combine 10-20 Wii's and get the horsepower of a PS3. That's just ridiculous especially in a real world setting; I would say on average the picture on a PS3 will be 2x-3x more detailed. But for god sakes, we know very little about the Wii's processor (other than it's 64 bit PowerPC based) and already people are comparing it to the PS3 in terms of performance (including GPU).
How do you know the Broadway CPU doesn't have two cores (it's feasible) and where on earth did you get 1.2 Ghz from? Personally I would rather have two slower clocked cores than one fast one. This is kind of like the gamecube fiasco, just because it's smaller we assume it's under-powered. Now I'm not saying that the Wii isn't underpowered compared the 360 and PS3 but it's NOT that much behind in terms of performance and graphics as you guys make it out to be.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have fuzzy math...
- LostInTheWired, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1And yet, I still don't care what this person does, cares, or believes. Each console has it's advantages. Wii has some very innovative features. I find it fun, fascinating, and all around mischief more than anything. PS3 has games that I want to continue their story. I will, whether anyone likes it or not, be buying one when there isn't such a rush because of shortages. It also holds the RPG market, that's just how it is. The XBox360 holds the availability card until these are released. It also has a fairly good online community.
The Wii is interesting, yes, but it's not an overpowering force. It's hype will subside eventually, and it probably won't have any defining games (not even the new Zelda). Neither will any of the other two, most likely. It's just another generation. It will pass too. The Wii will start losing support eventually, and then it will even out. It's just the economic balance. To tell the truth, I really could care less about HD-TV on any of the systems, so that's not a competition. It'll still look good. I'll be happy playing the next installment of Killzone, maybe even decide to get a 360 and play some Bullet Witch, because that's just a fantastic idea for a game, very fun. Spore maybe on Wii? True, but I'll get it for PC. It's where most of my games are (and most of the 360 stuff will probably go to PC in the first place, so I don't have to worry about that). It's a game between PS3 and Wii, and Wii is winning on the release. You'll start to see some PS3 fans soon enough. At least, PS3 fans who are intelligent...- Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man, wish I could see the future.
- fuerion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A-MEN to that brother! Great rant.
- gomerspile, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Its not the performance that is that bad (It is next gen and is up to developers anyway) its the games. Zelda which I do want to play, is the only game that was really worth playing on gamecube. Because of the crappy performances of the gamecube..alot of developers just aren't there. And the first party licenses are good, but are for kids. What is really exciting on Wii? the Wii remote. What are you? in third grade. Zelda no longer owns fantasy land anymore. My dude from Oblivion doesn't have retarded spikey hair, carry a sword bigger than him, and doesn't wear a horribly gay elf suit. People who seriously play vidoe games may buy a Wii (for their children), but they already have a 360.... and probably play PC games as well.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"My dude from Oblivion doesn't have retarded spikey hair, carry a sword bigger than him, and doesn't wear a horribly gay elf suit."
If that's what you think about Link, I'd REALLY hate to see what you think about Robin Hood... - Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Besides the fact that "spikey hair" and "sword bigger than him" describe Cloud Strife and not Link in any way.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"My dude from Oblivion doesn't have retarded spikey hair, carry a sword bigger than him, and doesn't wear a horribly gay elf suit."
- ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2To me, the 360 will always be dominant. I'm just buying a Wii on the side just for minor thrills.
- swbat55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0beautiful
- furiousmonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"So to the giant Sony corporation and your $600 'must-have' high-definition all-in-wonder machine, I say "No thanks." At least not in the 'launch window.''
Way to go out on a limb. - johnyc252, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was actually sort of annoyed with the price tag of the PS3. The PlayStation was the first video game system I ever bought and really enjoyed, and when the PS2 came out I loved that. I would sit and play GTA and Final Fantasy 10 for hours. But, now that I'm in college, I can't afford to spend 600 dollars on a console, I don't have an HDTV(and won't be getting one), and if I did I wouldn't even want Blue-Ray. Who wants to spend all of that cash buying the same movies again on a format that allows you to go from high def DVDs to being able to see the blackheads on the pours of Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon? I think Sony has been on top for such a long time that they think their customers will just buy anything they spit out and I simply don't think that's the case.
- mleh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0So Wii Wii before PS3?
There's a joke in there somewhere, I'm sure of it. -
