- Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It wasn't coming? Play magazine just ran a full feature of this game last issue. I don't think this game was ever in trouble.
- WarpFox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Planetside was ftw, but they reduced a game of strategically coordinating masses of people to what is now basically MMO counterstrike, and no it sucks. Huxley console players will just get pwned by the PC gamers, so no problem there.
10six rocked :3 - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well that's terrible, good thing this is an MMOFPS.
- EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10The MMO genre already has such a game - Planetside. Huge battles, vehicle and infantry combat, and the original and expansions are available for not very much from places like direct2drive.com.
It may not look as pretty as Huxley, but the gameplay hasn't been dumbed down to allow the console users to think they have FPS skills without a keyboard and mouse. - gatekillr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I hope Quake V will be an MMO...
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6(from the article) "..high res.."
There needs to be a standard "high res" these days, because it sure as hell isn't 900x720. - Arkavus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't know where that comes from, since the article is about the new high res snaps of the game.
Although I gotta say Destructoid is a mildly ignorant gaming news site if they expected a MMOFPS to look like Gears of War... I won't even go into how stupid you'd have to be to believe the movie they mention wasn't rendered. A gaming news site that bases their opinion on a game by whether or not its graphics beat the current popular game's graphics is pretty stupid. - gatekillr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It probably won't but I'd be very much willing to pay for it. The problem with current online First Person Shooter is that you have to join a game and then each match is repeated and/or the maps get rotated. It would be awesome if you could just login to one massive map and join battles, missions etc while your there and if you want to. You could also just shoot people for fun :)
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is the first I've heard of the game.. the MMO genre is in desperate need of an FPS type hybrid. I don't know anything about the game but if it's an MMO that doesn't require 100+ Days REAL TIME or the never ending grind of killing the same mob 5000 times.. I will def Digg it.
A game of 10six anyone? - HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Planetside was good when it first came out but lets face the reality...its a dinosaur. The graphics don't even touch those of poorly made FPS these days and while in theory the strategy and concept was fun, the actual implementation was buggy and lag was insane. Not to mention queues to get into hot spot zones where all the action was and hence where everybody wanted to be.
I will say though that it really did make you think about a lot of strategic aspects of war that you don't normally think about, the big one being transport. Flying a massive transport of troops, MAXes and vehicles was a blast, especially when you were flying in hot over a base. - Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Though it could have used a comma, dugg for excellent execution of "bitches" in the description.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hope like hell that this game somehow comes out to be a free-play game (no monthly fee)
- kidtsunami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3for Arkavus: RTFA
"This is all made possible by the marvel of the Unreal 3 engine, a licensed technology which makes it possible for studios to quickly create games that look vastly inferior to Gears of War." - troller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2never heard of a MMOFPS before, but i always dreamed....
hopefully this is as good as i see it in my head - Memitim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love Planetside and still play after three years but I can see why it would get panned. Dated graphics aside, since the graphics are plenty good enough to provide a fun playing environment without ass-raping my computer, there is much room for improvement that is just never done. I'm guessing that there is maybe one developer who splits his work between Planetside and Sony's other offerings since they don't do crap with it.
What Planetside really lacks, and what will pull me away to another MMOFPS if it ever comes along, is a much more structured and developed command and control system. Right now it is limited to high level Command Rank chat channels and basic waypointing. The command structure needs to be completely overhauled to provide the ability for an entire continent to be provided real-time guidance by the CR5s outside of yelling crap over the continent and global channels. Hell, at this point just providing some additional means of directing the zerg would be huge since it might actually get some more people to pull BFRs, armor, and air power, instead of running over huge stretches of terrain on foot. Proximity-based voice chat, such as in There, would be damned useful, although most Outfits already use Teamspeak anyhow.
Yeah, much of the time Planetside is more like a 100 vs. 100 vs. 100 game of Counterstrike, which admittedly can be pretty fun. But when the CR4 and CR5s are actively engaged and coordinating their strategies, people are actually pulling armor and air, and advances are being made in fronts rather than as straggling masses, Planetside is a thing of beauty. I have so many great memories from some epic battles: holding down a tech plant against a constant combined forces siege for almost two hours before pushing through and capping every connected base within minutes; taking out a cocky Liberator bomber with a well-placed mine in the courtyard, throwing on an infiltration suit and tearing the heart out of a major offensive by hacking the AMS right in the middle of the battle and stabbing Phoenix users to death while they are focused on guiding their missiles; pasting cloakers with Phoenix missiles. ;)
I am looking forward to checking out Huxley since I would love to find an MMOFPS that does it right, but given that Planetside can't seem to hold enough numbers to get Sony to spend some resources making it better, I question whether the genre in general is even feasible at this time. - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg down for lame, tired execution of bitches in the description. That and the fact that despite any so-called 'hype', not too many people are interested in this game, other than some console fans, as #1. it's by an unproven Koren publisher, and #2. it's another MMO, just what the PC market does NOT need at this point in time.
- RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While I didn't really care for it, it looks like 10six is still around but under the name 'Project Visor'
http://www.projectvisitor.com/ - jimmiss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1memitim: Well said!
I loved that game and sometimes still play it. I was in D2A for quite a while. - etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Forget Quake, I hope Battlefield will become an MMO. It's already half-way there with Battlefield 2 and 2142. They've got persistent characters, rankings, unlocks/upgrades, etc. Now they just need to take the full step and add more RPG elements and persistent, larger landscapes. Redo Battlefield 1942 as an MMO!
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A new dream every day Huxley Pig.. Oink Oink.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats what this game is though ^
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the blonde evil girl is well fit for a 3d model
- AmishRefugee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unreal Engine 3 > *
- vblvbl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huxley had great promise, but the fact that the gameplay will be a UT-based bunny-hopping, script-kiddy macrofest has pretty much killed it for me.
Why, oh why, won't someone create an updated version of Planetside with more MMO features and a larger universe? - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, but StarCraft isn't entirely original either. It's all ripped off from somewhere
- endersadvocate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tabula Rasa looks decent too
although it isn't twitch based - jimmiss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Huxley console players will just get pwned by the PC gamers, so no problem there." That will be fun. As someone who has literally 1500 hours in planetside, I can't wait till this game.
- unfuccwittable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1huxley was never dead. i work in the same building as webzen and the game is very much alive. it only seems dead cuz no one cares about it. buried as lame.
- gobbly2100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah, screenshots are looking sweet too =)
- mrix1, on 03/18/2008, -0/+0Yea lot of News around at the moment so it looks finally we are going to see a release of this awesome game at last! I just wonder how with the quality of the Unreal engine how are the servers going to cope?
cheers all
mrix
http://www.huxleygame.co.uk - KiriA500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doubt it. With as much as this game is going to have, I doubt the developer will opt in to update it for free.
- KiriA500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Um, Huxley was canceled?
On a side note, this game is going to be amazing. - MotionAesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I reckon Tribes would make the best base for an MMOFPS
- TekJansen64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was so excited about this game when i first heard about it almost a yea ago. But there's been so little information added about it that i figured it was definitely dead. Seeing these new screens really only tells me that this game is going to come out but won't be nearly as good as they have previously claimed. If you are looking for a MMO with FPS aspects you should check out Age of Conan, all the combat is done in 3rd/1st person and it looks great.
http://www.ageofconan.com/conan/en/index.html - gobbly2100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Huxley is far from dead, just keep updated on http://www.HuxleyGame.com there is plenty on there showing it is not dead, also don't forget we did have an awsome looking movie in November showing a nice polished looking game so don't get too worried.
- Muncher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@retral
Right, because no image can be of high resolution unless it conforms exactly to HDTV specs. - flashpointbob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1speaking of character models...
is it just me, or did they go through blizzard's character design book for StarCraft and steal everything? I mean look at the video, I see armor that resembles the marines, that flying bike reminds me of the raven (i think that's what it was called) and those things looked like the Zerg, and I am sure that chick with the glowing boobs could pass off for some weird Protoss/Terran hybrid.
what ever happened to originality? not saying i don't like how this looks, or the character design, all that i am saying is that is looks unoriginal. - Unclekoolaid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1There is no need to insult us, just post the story, god!
- zeeneo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2digg down, i'm a retard
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1This game will probably suck.
- entertainer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1OK, This is Lame.
- ghaib, on 10/12/2007, -18/+11Apparently everything from destructoid gets dugg these days...
Huxley was ALWAYS coming to the PC and Xbox 360.
Buried - wowsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -11/+0Because the MMORPG market isn't big enough already.
