- WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -10/+145This requires you to walk into a Wal-Mart. I don't recommend this.
- tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52I tried this, but the 700 year old greeter and the 400lbs cashier scared me away.
- dsthunder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37I work at walmart, I put this upc into our systems global database...
i have not yet done the same with the ps3... i will however do this when i get off break.
expect the ps3 version of this soon... - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29@dsthunder
Are you God? - billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Every digg that this Wii story has over that PS3 story is a tiny little victory.
- dsthunder, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28http://digg.com/gaming_news/Find_out_how_many_Ps3_consoles_your_local_Walmart_will_have
ps3 version is fresh in our system.
digg this too - scooter17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I worked at Wal Mart, and can confirm that this works. However, it is not always accurate, and is technically against store policy to give that information to a customer. But chances are nobody cares, so its worth a try. I did this for the Xbox 360, and it accurately showed that we would be getting 20 premium systems.
- jacobmp92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12bstock: "Wal-Mart in Michigan"
vawksel: "That's because you are in Canada"
I didn't know Michigan was in Canada. - djdigital, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.asp?upc=045496880019
- TinFoil209, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If you do walk in and ask them to telzon a barcode they either have no clue what a telzon (telxon) is or they know it requires work and walks away...
- Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Does anyone know what Walmats position is on getting one? While sitting in line at Toyrs R Us the guy behind me waited (I don't remember how long, but a VERY long time) for a 360 last year. Then right before they sold them they handed out numbered tickets to EVERYONE who was there. So after all that time he didn't get one. It didn't matter how long he waited it was just random.
- phrstbrn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I work in the backroom/stockroom at Target. Target doesn't keep track how many items are in the stockroom, just where the items are located (or if there are none left).
So the answer would be no, it won't work at Target. - SG111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The plan for the Wii and PS3 at Wal-Mart is to let people line up and hand out numbered tickets at 10 pm. Once it hits 12:01those with tickets get a system.
I'm sure there will still be some clowns who will wait in line even after the tickets are handed out and whine when they get nothing.
Stores that sell the most accessories will get the largest allotment for future allocations for the rest of the Christmas season. - graywh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I don't think it will work at Target because the store never knows what is coming on the next truck.
- rabidmoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Wow, talk about great customer service. Against company policy to give information to customers.
Wal-Mart, thou hadst seduced me. *swoon*
/sarcasm - Scharf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah right..our walmart sucks so bad the employee can't answer the easiest of questions...like their name...
- slurpeyatari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I dont know about your wal-mart but at my wal-mart I dont think anyone in the electronics department knows what a Wii is. If I asked about a Wii they would think it was the army of smiley faces.
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There's probably an average number. Can someone post that?
- Leo21k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I went and they said they had 0 in stock 0 in transit and 0 on order"
Damn Lex Luthor stealing all the Wii Info. - bstock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So I just tried this at a Wal-Mart in Michigan, and the handheld PDA things came up with all 0's for inventory. It did come up with the price for the unit though.
- NessTheHero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While nobody was looking, Lex Luthor stole 40 Wiis. He stole fourty Wiis. Thats as many as 4 tens. And thats terrible.
- Pirkel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I went and they said they had 0 in stock 0 in transit and 0 on order.
Hmm..... Maybe this will have be tried later? - wilburx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2dsthunder,
the IN WHS doesn't show how many the warehouse has, its how many are at the warehouse slotted for your store. if you were to constantly scan an item, you'd see it go from ON ORDER -> IN WHS -> IN TRNST -> ON HAND. usually if its showing IN WHS, it'll come in 2-3 days. - gjd131, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You should try it on the price scan things at Target, I noticed that whenever you scan something on them, it has somtehing about how many are in the stockroom, I don't know how accurate that is though, and if it works for the Wii yet.
- whoZatGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Since they moved here there is no where else to shop and with the pay cuts I had to take to keep our company open it's the only place I can afford. ***** place - even the APPLES are from China.
- myshoeshurt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1GOD. I HATE Lex Luthor.
- poppyseed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1walmart might be open 24hours... but there will be a line for when they can officially release the Wii. I think lines are unavoidable, unless you are lucky enough to have pre-ordered at Toys R Us this weekend.
I work somewhere that will sell the Wii... we'll have at least 100 our first shipment, but plan on lining up myself at 2 in the afternoon the day before if I can. If it's anything like the 360, line up as early as possible! (Of course... what am I saying... don't do that, just stay at home so I have more of a chance) - spoonard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I will not be lining up anywhere...My WalMart is open 24Hrs...According to the electronics guy he's not aware of any plans to make people line up. He says his manager could change that at any time though...so I guess I MIGHT line up. But also my Walmart will have 150 Wii's in thier first shipment. So I think everyone will get thiers.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2phrstbrn - What are you talking about? Every employee PDA/MSA lists the quantity of an item on the floor (not counting for stolen/misplaced) and in the backroom with locations on both.
This won't work on the Wii/PS3 though because the stores don't have them in the backrooms yet. - dxprog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I checked myself the other day. Sadly, my Wal-Mart (#41) shows no Wiis coming atm. And it's spelled Telxon, btw.
- Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeesh, even ON HAND was never accurate. ***** inventory people.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You'd be surprised what customers will get pissed about. If you tell somebody you're out of stock they'll understand. If you tell somebody the computer says you have one of something but it can't be found (inventory error, misplaced, stolen), they'll be pissed.
Inventory is frequently wrong, shipments are delayed. Sometimes it's better to give a customer no information than to give them potentially inaccurate info. Hell, when I worked retail and couldn't find something there were a lot of times I wished *I* didn't know what the computer said. - Pirkel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm going to be trying this tonight at my little walmart here in Smallville, Georgia..
- myshoeshurt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOL.
- pyro808, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3not to be a spelling nazi, but it's "telxon". and, most stores won't show any on-hands until a day or two before they will be shipped. had these barcodes a week ago, and the system didn't have any inventory data for any store in 150 miles of st. louis when i checked monday morning.
- xfade, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7how'd you find this?... is there a UPC for the ps3?
- voteforgrant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Take the barcode to your local Target and try it out. Chances are it will show zero (0) on hand and that's all they will be able to tell you. The computers at Target do not track how many items a store will receive, only how many that already have received.
- bighawaii, on 12/03/2007, -0/+0The website here shows Wii's for under $350. Still kind of spendy for me. http://www.wii-store.com/blog
Walmart selling Wii Gift cards but wouldn't that just totally suck to get on xmas? "Honey here's your Wii...you just can't play with yet and the nice lady at walmart has no idea when you will be able to." - astx813, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You're in St Louis, too? We'll have to touch base in the next few weeks, I might end up camping out at the Best Buy in Brentwood.
- CampusVoice, on 01/27/2008, -0/+0That's pretty cool. Thanks for the info.

http://www.wii-shop.org - karenkleen, on 02/22/2008, -0/+0thanks! this is cool. I can't believe Nintendo still hasn't gotten these shortages figured out though. :)
if any of you are still having trouble finding a Wii, read my article about it:
http://www.tekeeze.com/nintendo-wii/finding-a-wii - karenkleen, on 02/22/2008, -0/+0er... make that http://www.tekeeze.com/nintendo-wii/find-a-wii
- wiilover, on 12/12/2008, -0/+0My Wal-Mart was out, but I was able to find a Wii console at http://wiiconsolesandmore.com. They had plenty in stock and ready for shipping.
- DMNKLR, on 12/15/2007, -0/+0It doesn't work for Wii's. I know this for a couple of reasons: 1. I work in Electronics at Wal*Mart, not that I take pride in my job. 2. The Wii's come directly from Nintendo, via UPS, thus, they never show up at the warehouse, and cannot be ordered, looked up, or tracked in any way. Nobody knows exactly what day, what time of day, or how many will show up, until they get them. It's never the exact same amount every week either, and only 1 shipment per week. I deal with this crap all day every day, so I know how it works, and unfortunately, I have to deal with a LOT of disappointed customers.
- EvilEvoked, on 03/17/2008, -0/+0As said before Nintendo Wiis are not shipped on normal freight and therefore will not show up in the SMART system, so taking the UPC in the store makes you look like a ***** idiot. We already have the UPC there anyways. Wiis arrive via UPS or FedEx normally, only once they are checked in by a member of management they will show up in the inventory system on the Telxon/Gemini. Asking when other products will arrive will only further our discontent with you, the system only displays "In Transit" for items currently being shipped and does not provide a time or date, so don't ask. Only with a receiving printout/truck report can we obtain knowledge of items that will arrive on normal freight. Items listed as "In Stock" at walmart.com is likely inaccurate as it is updated every 24 hours the same as our remote inventory feature, so call before you come and complain like an *****. Walmart does not hold products for you, so if it's not there when you get there, too bad. Prices on walmart.com differ from in-store prices which many cannot understand for some reason, so do not fail to remember.
- tonytisdell, on 11/21/2007, -1/+0I didn't find one at Walmart but I did find one here http://nintendowiiinstock.weebly.com
- bbene, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I work at a certain retail store, and our telzon's don't tell us how many we will have until they actually get to the store.
- computermatt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I can see that happening:
Me: Excuse me, do you know how many Wii this store will be getting?
Employee: Uh... let me check in back.
Me: It comes out the 19th, today is the 31st.
Employee: Oh, sorry, the Wii is over there. (pionts to a picture of a thousand or so of those stupid smiley faces)
Those stupid illegal Mexicans! - computermatt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2They are all illegal Mexicans
