- infra172, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33You don't have to worry about porting games from Wii to PS3 because nobody is going to buy a PS3.
- zimm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14nobody outside of japan "gets" japan.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13having worked extensively with MEMS, i can tell you that even the most advanced inertial navigation systems used in military systems have drift problems over short amount of times, so the inexpensive MEMS being used in the wiimote will absolutely have an enormous drift problem: it simply is impossible that the wiimote can keep track of an accurate position in 3space without the strip to provide constant recalibration. that's not to say that it won't work flawlessly, the wii doesn't demand that high of a level of precision
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"less game on each disc compared to the PS3's Blu-Rays"
link to the past for SNES: couple of megs
britney's dance beat: couple of gigs
you may or may not want to rethink how you measure a game's 'goodness' - Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12howcome when ever anyone tries to justify the PS3 price they always say something like "yeah but if you get a premium X360 and add a few controllers, a few games, and a remote and stuff, it will be $600".... errr yeah and your gonna do the same with the PS3, so it will be about $800.... Wii and 360 FTW!!
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9in a famitsu poll the wii grabbed 70% of the survey for 'Japanese console of choice'. I think it's safe to say that the playstation stranglehold on Japan is quickly disappearing.

For the record, Nintendo hasn't bashed Sony in a long time. In fact, I rarely ever hear them say anything negative about their competitors nowadays. I suppose it's mainly because they don't want to acknowledge sony as a competitor anymore.
As for my own personal Sony bashing, I've hated every single division of that company for years now. It seems every single peice of Sony equipment that I've bought over the years has broken down, so I really have no reason to believe they've changed their ways with the PS3. Every single dvd player, tv, and stereo I've bought from Sony has broken within 2 years. When I begrudgingly purchased my second PS2 was the last straw. They're an RIAA member and they overcharge for inferior products. It would be a great justice in my eyes to see them fall flat on their face. Sony is more than a video game company so more than just video game fanboys hate them. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11This has nothing to do with the Wii controller. And MaxTheSheep: accept the fact that very few people still care about the ps3. You don't have to justify anything for Sony as most of the technological people on digg hae already made up their minds.
I guess now the Playstation fans know how the Nintendo fans felt four years ago. - richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Seeing as this "Sensor bar" is just a row of IR LEDs, I give it a week before someone "mods" some into their TV, or even their wall.
- wtfomg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Interesting, I assumed it worked on magic and love.
- Nyfeh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I just wish Nintendo wouldn't get my hopes up like that... I mean I know if I was playing tennis I would definitely be going for drop shots all the time... And they're kind of hard to do in place... just like jogging in place isn't jogging.
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmmmm...the controller works a bit different than I thought.
- BassJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd have to agree, and besides I think the 2 consoles will be aimed at different markets anyway. The PS3 is aimed at the older (and richer :-P) gamers whilst the Wii is aimed at everyone else!
Before this years E3 I was a real PS3 fanboy but since I've found out about the price (i'm a UK resident) and the fact that we only get the expensive specced one I'm seriously considering whether I really want a PS3.
I've got 4 kids and I really think we as a family could have more fun with the Wii then I could, alone, with the PS3! My kids thoroughly enjoy playing Eye toy so Wii seems like the next step! - ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Maaaaan.. I'm going to laugh so hard at you guys if the PS3 turns out to be a success. Like I said, wait for the thing to be done. If it sucks, then bash it to the death.
- dunstdunst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://wii-wii.us
- frank3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i wish people would stop calling it the wiimote
- hchaudh1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well so I guess its true. The Wii controller will suck. Even people at E3, once they got over the wow factor of the Wiimote, kind of found it tiring to play with the baton. Its no good especially for high fidelity FPS games. Of course if you want to take Mario on a bug stomping rage, I guess its good enough.
PS3 for me all the way. Enough of this Mario/Zelda nonsense anyways. And for the people above trying to say that "technological" folks are going with the Wii, you must clarify that the technological folks you are reffering to are 30 year old Wiitards with retainers. All gamers will go for a 360 or a PS3. PS3 is they can afford it, 360 if they can't. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I hate getting ripped off. Who doesn't?
- hchaudh1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1But let the Wiitards come out of the woodwork to mod down anyone who even attempts to see the Wii for what it is. A glorified baton wielding last gen console. I mean come on, give us just one new game, is that too much to ask.
Here's a sample of the Wiitard cult's blindness to the obvious.
"You don't have to worry about porting games from Wii to PS3 because nobody is going to buy a PS3." 23 Diggs.
I guess its all pent up frustration from getting wedgies at school.
Ahhh... that felt good. P.S. I am getting frustrated with all the PS3 bashing. This was a story about how the Wiimote will suck. And the Wiitards made it into an orgy about how the PS3 will suck. To me personally, the Wii is not good investment at all. Why spend $300 to play Mario? I would rather spend the $600 and get something which will at leastbe truly next gen. And no, the 360 is not next gen either. Its just a couple of dual cores thrown together. - Kenwe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No it isn't really a light gun with some accelerometers. The LEDs are just basically there to recalibrate the Wiimote.
- TheBrandman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Max
Wii is actually far more popular in Japan, something like 70% surveyed for Wii while 30% surveyed for PS3. Many of them cited price and size because "they have small apartments". - Ragzouken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Well you are comparing the PS3 to the Xbox when quite obviously it's Wii ftw!
- BarriedaleNick, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I think he's too full of hate to think clearly - How can you hate a company let alone all it's divisions - seems very wierd to me.
- Leech, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Well, I know it's a controversial discussion.
But look, the PS2 was released on 2000, and six years later still having greaat games using their maximum potential. It means that Sony thought very well in the future and game developers undestood the idea.
I think that PS3 is going in the same way.
It's just my opinion, and the reason to wait before buy any of the 2 consoles (Wii or PS3, I really don't like X360 at all). - Wichenroder, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5iluvatar , the world is bigger than Amerika - "very few people still care about the ps3" - you don't really 'get' Japan do you..
- Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5give the man credit he's right, in Japan Playstation is practically a religion, even if PS3 totally sucked, they would still all buy it, even it it cost $999, they would still all buy it, they'd never go for something like the 360, something American over their lovely homegrown over expensive machine
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1It's essentially a light gun wih some accelerometers.
- MaxTheSheep, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6I'm not saying people should care. I was simply justifying that the PS3 isn't the piece of ***** that Microsoft and Nintendo says it is, in my opinion.
Still, lets reserve the "insults" onto the systems until all of them actually come out and can be judged. - brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5"You don't have to worry about porting games from Wii to PS3 because nobody is going to buy a PS3."
Obviously, a blind-worship fanboy comment. - vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Wii are, Wii are, the youth of the nation.
- juancn, on 10/12/2007, -20/+6Accelerometers are not enough, see this:
http://codeknot.blogspot.com/2006/06/how-wii-mote-works.html - MaxTheSheep, on 10/12/2007, -31/+7Except everyone in Japan.
Actually, when you do the math, the PS3 actually evens out pretty well with the price of the Xbox 360.
360 + Hard Drive = $400
Then add in the price of extra controllers, Xbox Live (PS3's online service is free), DVD remote, and less game on each disc compared to the PS3's Blu-Rays, and the PS3 doesn't look that bad.
Still. Both great systems.
