- R22W13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'm not really interested in this movie, but this is a great piece about how an unusual game is used in a mainstream movie. Kudos to Kotaku!
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Don Cheadle is the man
- alpha94, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This game is simply amazing. If you haven't played it, you owe it to yourself to play a game like nothing you've seen before. I thought the article was very engaging and written very well. I like the comparison with his father.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I cant either. It really seems like a smart way to deal with the 9/11 thing withouth going after the sensationalism of the actual event.
(Although, to be fair, at this point, most film makers have done a pretty good job.) - jeremedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow, it is way cool to see the story make it to the front page! Brian did an amazing job!
I knew just the straight story would be compelling to people who appreciate Colossus, and are sick of fake games in movies. - Moiche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10That is some of the best writing I have read in a blog entry. Kudos to Ashcraft for taking the time to create something so fluently expressed.
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I can. I'd rather see "Reign over me" instead, but maybe "Rein over me" is the prequel?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8way to proofread the summary
- fotd42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was really on the fence about this movie (Adam Sandlers serious roles have been hit or miss, more miss than hit) but I love that game so I guess I'm sold.
- StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5lol at StratfordX responding to Ape: "'It's days are numbered, and if not, it's a matter of time.' No movies OR games for you until you can tell me what's wrong with that sentence."
Kudos to Kotaku? Kudos to Roush! - venividivici12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5brilliant!!! can't wait to see the movie
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you've ever played the game, you can see some very dramatic and compelling themes at work. Strife, both internal and externally, blind devotion, faith and so on.
Not every game can make for a compelling and sufficient anchor for a movie's themes, but this one is rife with thematic drive. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One of the best games ever!!!
Need a mirror. I'm at work`````~~~````` - danielsan79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you have not played this game, you owe it to yourself to go out of your way to do so. Easily the best game I have played since Half Life on PC. It also has possibly the best ending to a video game I can ever recall. A true piece of art.
- darkdaedra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I saw the movie a couple weeks ago at a free screening - Mike Binder, Don Cheadle, and Adam Sandler were all there. It was a really good film, and I remember really enjoying the Shadows of the Colossus scene. It really is organic to the story, and that game is epic to watch on a movie theater screen.
- GasPoweredGnome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its especially frustrating to not be able to see the game at times, then you see the controller that they are playing with and it resembles nothing familiar. Just another prop :(
- jeremedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Understandably cynical, but nonetheless mistaken.
- thegoldenavatar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dugg solely for a spectacular, moving game.
- isajeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was a very interesting read and it actually makes me want to see the movie more. And it's not just because it includes some footage of a game I love, but because it seems (from the article at least) to be portrayed in a way that's true to the artistic view of the game developers. Trust me, you have to be an artist to create a game like Shadow.
- standing8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Since its release, this has been my favorite game of all time. With Ico coming in 2nd. Fumito Ueda and Team Ico are THE best game developers on the planet. While everyone else is making endless FPS, copy cat platformers and games based on movies, these guys are making instant classics. If you are of the group that considers games as art, these guys are at the forefront. Besides Seeds(formerly Clover), no one comes close.
- Tygell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If I could Digg this article again, I would. It's very well written and a great insight to some of the inner workings of these movie makers. The fact that they used such an incredible game makes it even better.
I was on the fence about seeing this movie before, but now I'm sold. - ollj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"...for teh game..."
- Dr.Gonzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I remember when I saw kids playing Final Fantasy VIII in Charlie's Angels. Only good part of the movie.
- news234, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hi,guys. You can download Charlie's Angels movie here - http://dvdramworld.com/details/movie/Charlie%27s+Angels-40045.html
- TuxedoMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Odd choice of game to promote, considering it's about 18 months old now.
- timmayk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5agreed. reign looks like a much better movie. i heard people in rein can't spell.
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't bother telling him facts. He's busy solving all the problems in the US by closing the borders. Yeah, isolationism will work wonderfully. Yeah.
- divabox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Definitely, one of the best games ever! want it so much
- frozensnake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now im gona get my nongameing family to see this.
- Revo16, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Bring back the Whig party, after all the first president was a member of that."
Um, no. George Washington wasn't affiliated with any political party. In fact, he was against the very idea of them. - MrHate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Erm, I'll tell you straight out how the themes match.
Colossus is a Sony developed game, and Reign Over Me is a Sony produced film. It's like all the pieces fell into place! Sony have a HUGE track record of cross promoting their wares, and not that I blame them, but this is just another example.
Nice to see Kotaku back in bed with Sony again. - jerryn, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Bring back the Whig party, after all the first president was a member of that. How about a US Nationalist party that's against sticking our nose in
