- Scopitone, on 05/04/2008, -28/+116Cut to a story next week "How Wii Fit Threatens The 360/PS3". The answer is the same both ways. Not ***** much.
- mlrigsby, on 05/04/2008, -11/+92Mario Kart seems to be doing quite well. GTA will have no effect on Nintendo.
- benitojuarez, on 05/04/2008, -13/+86ive never really been a big fan but im pretty sure halo is the whole reason there still is an xbox
- aspec, on 05/04/2008, -4/+59I'd say it simply doesn't matter, no one bought a wii thinking that they'd be able to play grand theft auto on it.

Myth busted. - jermm, on 05/04/2008, -7/+58My parents won't play GTA4.
They will play Mario Kart Wii. - JordanTW90, on 05/04/2008, -11/+52I really doubt GTA will cut into the Wii. From my experience, wii gamers and PS3/Xbox people are two different kinds.
- Bootes, on 05/04/2008, -7/+48Almost everyone I know that wants GTA IV would also love to play Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart.......
- ImpoliteAndEvil, on 04/06/2009, -20/+60"One game doesn't make that much of a difference."
***** it doesn't. There are a LOT of people who are gonna buy a 360 or a PS3 just for GTA IV. To say one game doesn't have an impact on console sales just isn't true. Consider somebody who wants to buy a console and only has enough for one- there's a good chance a game like GTA IV is gonna sway that decision one way or the other.
And, sorry, but SSBB doesn't have the same kinda pull that a game like GTA IV has. It just doesn't. - championchap, on 05/04/2008, -2/+41Holy *****, how thin is the column they give the actual story on this?
Ridiculous! - inactive, on 05/04/2008, -7/+43You're only one person? I'm glad you cleared that up.
- fishbeef33, on 05/04/2008, -3/+37...and we enter Round 5,527,964 of the Great Video Game Wars. Seriously. These kinds of debates have been going on since Atari vs. Colecovision. I will never understand why so many gamers hold these undying allegiances to certain consoles, never acknowledging that sometimes good games get made for other systems. I don't care if it's a Nintendo fanboy or an XBox fanboy. Just enjoy YOUR ***** system, if you really must only play one, and shut the hell up!
Yeesh! - SPThom, on 05/04/2008, -6/+39Are XBOX & PS3 fans so insecure that they need to take jabs at the Wii on every opportunity?
Actually, I would say the popularity of games like GTA have *led* to the Wii's popularity, because XBOX and PS developers have focused on those games at the neglect of family-friendly games. Wii filled the gap, and it's a pretty big gap. - riskybeats, on 05/04/2008, -6/+37I'll assume your just not funny and bury you.
- falese, on 05/04/2008, -4/+31bananas and cherries
- gthyb, on 05/04/2008, -5/+32So Forbes doesn't understand market segmentation? Where's their articles on residental construction's effect on mobile homes?
- Kingmichael, on 05/04/2008, -4/+27It does when it's Grand Theft Auto IV. SSBB would matter more if Nintendo would fix the ***** online play system. I hate having to exchange friend codes with people in real life, only to find out later that:
A) They haven't registered my friend code (because they don't know how to, or because they're too lazy).
B) They aren't ever online because the Wii sucks dick for online games.
I don't think GTA IV really threatens the Wii, but that's because the Wii is almost exclusively for casual gamers, which is why it has done so well in sales. No noteworthy online multiplayer games whatsoever. Besides SSBB, there aren't really any good offline multiplayer games either. None that are exclusive to the Wii anyway. There are tons of party games though, for the casual gamers who play once a week for about an hour at most... Not that there's anything wrong with being a casual gamer, but this is Digg. I imagine most of us aren't casual gamers. When it comes to video games, geeks like us have standards, and games like "Raving Rabbids 2" and "Wii Sports"-- the kinds that are to be played for about an hour or two and then left to rot in their cases forever after-- generally don't meet them.
You can digg me down now, fanboys... Assuming you haven't already done so when you realized that this was a negative post about the Wii. - AgentMull, on 05/04/2008, -0/+22Its for all those many people still on 800x600 Screens...
- NecroSexy, on 05/04/2008, -3/+24Yes, because mothers can't wait to try out GTA-IV's drunk-driving simulator!
- YellowSnowDemon, on 05/04/2008, -4/+24Yesterday I had some free time. My friends and I played video games for nearly 15 hours straight. We're all competitive Smashers, so naturally we started on Brawl for a few hours. Then we took turns ***** around in GTA IV, and much laughter was shared at the chaos. Shortly after that, t3h booze came, and with it came Mario Kart Wii. And eventually, many games of Super Smashed Brothers was played.
And you guys miss out on joyous occurences such as this - because you're too stubborn to play a 'casual' system. - championchap, on 05/04/2008, -8/+28And not the endless money well that is Microsofts wallet?
- Carrot1991, on 05/04/2008, -6/+26In Honesty, it's best to mix a 360/PS3 with a wii.
You wont miss out on the odd classic such as Mario Kart,Brawl etc and yet you get to take advantage of the 360/PS3's more impressive third party games and hardware capabilities. - aboyd, on 05/04/2008, -1/+21Hmm. I think your sentiment is right. However, I'm not sure that your dollar amounts are right. I thought it was more like $20 profit for each Wii sold, and about break-even now for each 360 sold. I have no idea how much Sony loses on each sale of the PS3, but I suspect "lots and lots" is an accurate guess.
- kd36, on 05/04/2008, -1/+21I think that a lot of the people who bought a Wii are not interested in games like GTA. Our family bought a Wii mostly for our kids - I'm not sorry that my 6 year old can't play GTA.
- Scottievm, on 05/04/2008, -1/+21Except those Nintendo games...
- Shadowgamers, on 05/04/2008, -2/+21Am I the only one who sees the 'Flame Forum' and thinks that this is nothing more than trollbait? :v
- Shadowgamers, on 05/04/2008, -3/+20HOLY ***** WHAT HAPPENED TO THE INTERNET ALGORITHM WHY DOES IT HATE US OH GOD
CAPS FOR RAGING INTERNET CRUSADING - Khast, on 05/04/2008, -5/+21Okay, so Forbes is definitely anti-Nintendo....we get the point. I pretty much have every video game console since the days of the Atari 2600. Each console had it's excellent top notch competition killer games. Did the systems fail as a result of these new games? Heck no, usually the systems failed, because of new consoles being released. (Sega was a bit of a wash, but 10:1 if Sega got back into the console market, they'd rip a hole into the market share as well.)
Personally, my favorite consoles of the past, have been the Nintendo consoles. They always worked harder on the experience of the game play, rather than the newest and hottest technologies. Of the current batch, I like the Xbox360 (TV), and the Nintendo DS (Portable).
Nintendo has been around since 1890s, and I am sure they will be around for much longer. Sony is a WWII company, relatively recent in the game industry, and Microsoft is an early 80s company, which is also relatively new in the gaming industry. Sega has been around since the 1940s. Nintendo has always been about games (albeit card games...), Sega has also been about games since their start, Pinball, and Pachinko. Sony only got into the gaming industry because of a betrayal by Nintendo, and Microsoft just wanted the market share. - burnstyle, on 05/04/2008, -12/+28thats true, the wii has a different target audience than the 360 or playstation 3. because of that the release of gta4 will have no impact on the wii.
- frygar, on 05/04/2008, -9/+25THIS IS A ***** ARTICLE
IT IS MADE OF FAIL AND ROAST BABY DIARRHEA - sgtpppr, on 05/04/2008, -5/+21What I know is I picked up Kart Wii and it is devouring all my time. My wife loves it as well. I don't think Nintendo is too worried considering it still can't keep up with demand for the system and this is the first real blockbuster game for PS3 despite the fact it's been out for well over a year now. I will say though, if you're looking for a Wii, the Gamestop on Del Mar Heights in Del Mar, CA had them as of this past friday. I watched two people walk out of the store with them.
- ChronicColonic, on 05/04/2008, -1/+17The devil made you type 'your' instead of 'you're'...
- GIACOMOSAN, on 05/04/2008, -5/+20And your belief apparantly encourages you to be a moron.
- SRSco, on 05/04/2008, -35/+50Who knows if GTA IV will actually do anything to the Wii. But personally? I'm so sick of my Wii. Since GTA IV came out I've been seriously considering buying an XBOX 360. Wii was fun while it lasted, but I'm kind of over it. But I'm just one person.
- datagod, on 05/04/2008, -3/+18And this lessons my enjoyment of my Wii games because......???
- Narishma, on 05/04/2008, -0/+14Except now PC seems to only get those dumbed down ports of console games...
- scotticus, on 05/04/2008, -3/+17really? I think it has more to do with timing.
- Icebird, on 05/04/2008, -9/+22Um... And that's why the Wii is still the hardest console to find and still outpacing both the 360 and PS3... You're right, the Wii is hurting. Ever heard of a game called Mario Kart?
- olenick, on 05/04/2008, -1/+14The Wii isn't really made for GTA. I mean, technically I'm sure it can be ported but the Wii is a product of Blue Ocean Strategy and BOS means non-traditional customers. The core gamers that love GTA may also like the Wii, but they're not Nintendo's only customers, or even primary customers.
- CraigCarlyle, on 05/04/2008, -7/+20Except GTAIV will sell millions more copies than Wii Fit...
- Dan11023, on 05/04/2008, -7/+20I have GTA4, and i played Mario Kart.... mario kart is fun, but GTA4 is better.
- spacefrog, on 05/04/2008, -0/+12yesno
- inactive, on 05/04/2008, -0/+12food and food. Both competing for the same space in your mouth
- verkon, on 05/04/2008, -0/+12Hang on, the wii wheel sells more then GTA IV?
- sgtpppr, on 05/04/2008, -3/+15There is absolutely nothing groundbreaking about GTA IV. There are a hundred things you could've mentioned to show your fanboy love for GTA and yet you chose the one thing GTA simply isn't. Fun and addicting? Yes. Groundbreaking? Not even close. It's not even groundbreaking compared to their own previous games.
- LocalDocal, on 05/04/2008, -0/+11I think you're confusing 'Moron' with 'Mormon'...
- frygar, on 05/04/2008, -1/+12Super SMASHED Brothers can't be beat. Drunken Mario Karting is also epic in its own right.
