Okay, now recognize the fact that the Wii is MORE powerful than the Gamecube.
I'm having a blast with my DS right now and the thing is as powerful as the N64 (the system BEFORE the Gamecube).

- evoleddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Yeah, its a good point that the ps3 is larger than the original xbox. Im sure everyone remembers that it was a huge complaint from the japanese market. But they are all smaller than the average computer tower, or even audio recievers, dvrs and other devices that many households have. The Wii's size(or lack there of) is impressive.

- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The best thing you can do is buy a wire mesh shelf to put your consoles on. Plenty of airflow & space. The days of neatly stashing your console away in an entertainment center is over unless you want to run your AC at full power all day. I think it's a much bigger issue in Japan than in the US but they're commited -- they won't let a big console stop them from playing FF13 or Dragon Quest 9.

- ryllharu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Bara does raise a good point, even if he is getting dugg down. One of the major complaints of the Japanese about the original Xbox was that it was too large. The PS3 is taller and deeper than the original Xbox by a nearly a centimeter. Bara's point is that with the Japanese's bias towards Sony products (or at least a clear bias against the xbox, due to game types or size or whatever), their exact complaint about the original Xbox is even further exaggerated in the PS3.
Will we see the same reception with the PS3 that we saw with the original Xbox due to its dimensions? I severely doubt it, they'll pick it up in a heartbeat. It just doesn't legitimize their initial complaints with the two versions of the xbox. If the PS3 doesn't receive the same complaints (which I'm largely sure it will not) it will show MS that they may need to revise what kinds of games they make on the xbox to appeal to a global market, since the size of their consoles will obviously not be the entirety of the issue.

The consoles I have sit behind a dark glass cabinet anyway. If the games are fun I don't care too much about what it looks like, although the 360 and the Wii look damned streamlined and sexy. The way those two consoles light up is pretty cool, too.

Some of the promo videos that have been coming out have made my fingers twitch. The prospect of an entire game system being as fun as a game like Guitar Hero is really exciting. In addition the price point looks pretty damn good as well.
