- Shuk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+74This guy knows how to think outside the box and be successful! I mean, he sat down and thought of what would be the perfect video game:
-Main character: Italian plumber with a mustache and red and blue overalls that has crazy jumping skills
-World filled with stars, mushrooms, pipes, castles, coins, blocks that you can hit from below
-Enemies: Weird standing turtles (some which throw hammers), pirahna plants that live in pipes, walking mushrooms with teeth and eyes that can be flattened
-His mission: Traverse this land to save a princess
This design became the most successful design in gaming history. Genius! - lincr3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+71#153 to #5 in 5 minutes

What does this have to do with Miyamoto? That's a weird thing to put on there for a con. :-/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50***** typical 10 yr old Sony fanboy.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38@WickedDrag0on
That was *maybe the dumbest statements I've seen in a long time.
You say "pulled a Sony" as a negative, then defend Sony. WTF.
Then, you say the NES saved gaming.
Finally, you say the PS1 was the "big revolution" in gaming...
Wow, just wow. - Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Referencing Chris Tucker invalidates any credibility you might've had.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26I'm curious how the King of Thailand got 10x the votes of everyone else. I didn't know the Time 100 list was so popular in Thailand (or in South Korea with Rain).
As of this post, Shigeru Miyamoto is number 6 with 3,500 votes (94 average). Let's see how this changes when this article makes the front page. - bouche, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30he's got an average rating of 92/100 at the moment.
- kriegs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20In the Cons, it lists the Wii's graphics. Why is that a Con for Shiggy?
- maximumsteve1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21i refer to shigeru as father. he basically raised me. so no duh i put him as 100 for most influential people.
- RonAcierno, on 02/07/2008, -1/+20rank down the people on above him on the list also to get him higher up...
- doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20you can vote for them both
- APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25Who the ***** is RAIN?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Why don't you vote for both of them, stupid
- Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Gamedaily has a nice write-up on this: Miyamoto Nominated for Time '100 Most Influential People'
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has never made the Time 100 list before, but if the votes hold up he will. The creator of Mario and Zelda is being lauded by Time Magazine in large part because of the recent success of the Wii console.
Legendary game designer and video game industry icon Shigeru Miyamoto has been nominated for the 'Time 100' – Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of the year. The profile for the man who's become synonymous with Nintendo is listed as follows:
AGE: 54
OCCUPATION: Game Designer for Nintendo game systems
NUMBER OF TIME COVERS: 0
PREVIOUS APPEARANCES ON THE TIME 100: 0
PRO: Most successful game designer, creator of Super Mario, Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda, whose new platform, the Wii, is currently the top-selling game console.
CON: His perfectionist tendencies often result in games being significantly delayed and, despite the Wii's gameplay innovation, its graphics are far behind the competition.
Miyamoto is one of 200 candidates on the list. Top nominees include U2 singer and philanthropist Bono, Korean R&B singer Rain, Microsoft's Bill Gates, President George W. Bush, Stephen Colbert, Al Gore and others. Time.com users also have the ability to vote on how influential each of the candidates is. Shigeru Miyamoto, as of this writing, was ranked number 42, with an average rating of 78 on a scale of 1 to 100.
Given how much mainstream attention the new Wii console has gotten in recent months, and considering what a fantastic start the Wii has gotten off to all around the world, perhaps it shouldn't be that surprising that someone like Miyamoto has made list. If you're a Miyamoto fan, or you just want to make sure that someone from the video game industry makes the final Time 100 list, it would be a good idea to visit the link above and vote. - Miche1987, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Your god, that's who.
- AnimalTaglits, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Osama Bin Laden is rated higher than Barry Bonds...
- BackwardsPanda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Thai haxx
- carpaltunel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18wtf? Bono? Will this fool every go away?
- ldhotsoup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I was just thinking about this the other day. Almost nobody in common culture knows Shigeru Miyamoto by name, but they all know Super Mario or Donkey Kong. Hopefully he'll win a spot on the top 100 so won't be such an obscure icon.
- Ioncannon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Miyamoto is actually very influential, for example many platformers were built upon the basics of what Mario was. Also he is a world wide known celebrity, who gets allot of praise and recognition amongst the video game community. For the way you sound like, its either
A: You own a Playstation and are just mad at anyone or any thing Nintendo cause they are outselling your next-gen console.
B: You are a troll
C: You are a follower of Osama and are angry he isn't top 5. - retard75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13He is the creator of the Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, Wave Race, and Pikmin video game series' for Nintendo game systems.
- MarvelingOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12why is BHUMIBOL ADULYADEJ still at number one....I'm so confused by this
- Ioncannon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14umm, how the hell did Sony revolutionize the gaming industry? 3d graphics? Sega Saturn did that, which even then, the SNES used the FX chip inside the Star Fox cartridge to produce somewhat of a 3d experience. Even then the texture hardware in the PS1 sucked so much compared to the N64, I can't stand the fuzzyness that appeared in so many games on the PS1. Game media? PCs and the Sega Saturn both used CDs. The main reason Nintendo lost some developers to Sony was because Nintendo stuck with cartridges. Even then, there was a bigger crappy game to good game ratio on the PS1 then on N64. When people say N64 games like Golden Eye, Zelda, Banjo-Kazooie, Konker's Bad Fur Day pop up, Donkey Kong 64, ect. PS1? Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy.......
- j4son, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12digg down. blandyman beat me to it...
- kettlehead, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18@ilyag,
No, you've likely been buried for your awful presentation of those facts. There's a difference between saying,
"The sky is blue," and saying "The sky is blue, you incompetent asshat."
Also, one of your "facts" is incorrect.
http://news.com.com/Nintendo+Wii+top-selling+game+console/2110-1043_3-6167836.html
The Wii has been the top selling console since at least February, beating the PS2 out by about 40,000 units.
Also, as the chief architect of nearly all of Nintendo's A-list first party software, i'm fairly certain he plaid an integral part in the development of the platform for them. - retard75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11he's at 5 now thats fine with me
The only thing that is a joke is that Bono is up at the top......
Why because he talks about world peace and love....
He gives back 2% of what he gets and the rest is for him to waste....
What a joke... - maxgreis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I hope he gets in there, at this point it looks like he will.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1010-30 year olds?
Usually when you try to make a point about age you don't put 3 generations as one.
He made the list without Digg. He was number 5 before this even hit the front page - LaSepultura, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16The best way to help is to give Shiggy a 100, but also click on these links and give these guys a 1.

I believe the Wii's graphics capabilities and budget price are largely down to Miyamoto. He was in fact pushing for an even cheaper console - $100 was his target. - kidtux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Don't forget you can lower the scores of the people above him too. That will help out as well!
- hannahmar, on 06/11/2009, -2/+10Not ever on the home page yet and he's number 5! Ahh the power of digg.
- fox40, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Its kinda weird when Bhumibol Adulyadej is the #1 most influential person, because it is illegal to even criticize him in Thailand. He may have brought democracy, but he has supported military regimes in the past.
- bumb1ebee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Rain is an Asian pop star who can't sing and is getting votes because little fangirls think he's hot.
- evilblueyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Cobert and Miyamoto are perfect 100s in my book. They both should be #1.
- RonAcierno, on 02/07/2008, -1/+7Some one needs to post this at the nintendo forums and some other game forums to get some extra support
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7that's because bono is a douchebag
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I already did a few hours ago.
- markingtime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8so Who is voting him down? he went down to 93/100 back to number 5. Sony Fanboys? or could it be thailand saw him gaining?
- markingtime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Oh so its people like you who believe that video games are of no importance that are voting him down. Last time I checked there were over 30 million gamers in the united states alone. 30 million Seems pretty prevalent to me. With the Wii doing what its doing lately, The thing he has created has had an impact on how over 6 million people play video games world wide, and that's not to mention the millions more who are waiting to get their hands on it.
And you say he is not Influential? - xxTazxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Bhumibol? Errrr...yehhhh
- insovietrussia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5All the Thai visitors have to rate him highly or they go to jail.
