- RogaDanar, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31Anyone for some Pitfall and Combat?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23I feel old...
- rhapsycats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Wasn't the first Easter egg ever in the game Adventure? Loved that game.
- kevyn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10*heads for ebay to re-live the memories*
- TheSavant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Have you played Pac-Man? The graphics suck! They don't look anything like the arcade. Why bother doing a port if you can't do it right? Let's start a petition, Digg. Patch our Pac-Man!
- Goose31, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I still have mine, 50+ games and two controllers. :)
- qmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8And a little River Raid and I'm in.
- DCGaymer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Pfft, Atari 2600 !?! Back in my day we had Pong.....and we were happy....damned happy.
- graemee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Heads to basement to find cardboard box. I think it's next to the C64 stuff.
- Thex1138, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Star Raiders!
- clemdionisio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6buttons??
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That was my first Atari game. I was so frickin excited when I bought it, even if the dragons did look like multicolored ducks.
- nnparticle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I loved the 2600 and the art they'd put on the cartridge and the instructions. My favorite game ever ... Demon to Diamond:

Its nice to whip out the ye ol' Atari 2600 on a USB stick and a few rounds of Keystone Kapers (Activision) - ismokedope, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I remember playing River Raid back in the 80's, If you scored x number of points, sent in a photo of the screen you would receive a game patch.
- rocknroll4ever, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Just yesterday I was at a garage sale and got one of these complete with a bunch of games. The best part is that I only paid $5 for it !!! Now should i keep it for another 30 yrs or just see if its worth anthing to anyone who would enjoy having it ? Happy Birthday !!
- mediaspree, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Me too, but go try playing it now. It really makes no sense. And you are a sqaure.
- Sirocco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/activision_p ...
The patches were a nice touch. Activision ruled back then. - rhapsycats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4That's funny. Back in the day that was great. I showed adventure to my kids and they couldn't believe what we had when I was their age. Funny thing is I got as much enjoyment out of that game as they are getting out of their Wii.
Also, remember when you went into the dark maze with the light? It lit up a circle around you and you could see on the other side of the wall. - mahdaeng, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4SPAM!!!
- DCGaymer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Damn you Pitfall, you stole countless hour's of my youth.
- clemdionisio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4My buddy and I dusted my 2600 off a while back. Good times for sure. And nothing says classy like the faux wood paneling. They don't make em like that anymore.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Ah... Combat. I remember distinctly the huge bi plane vs. the three small fighters. The Tank battles with modes for ricochet bullets or regular. And much much more...
- thepuma77, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4BLASPHEMY!!!!!
- shuffles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Have you played Atari today"?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vX2nHBploM - astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Was't too bad... I always enjoyed crushing Elliot with the spaceship at the end...
Gather all pieces, and as you hear the ship, call for Elliot's' Help... as he comes running across the screen **WAM** hes owned by the ship, game hangs and remains on the screen. - djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It was on the 2600, in a huge orange box with a keypad controller. Still have mine!
- clothmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hey, joystick complainers!
Anyone else ever notice that the Sega Genesis controllers work in an Atari 2600? - muki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4What about Pong? I distinctly remember owning one of those a year or two before my 2600. Does that make Pong really, really old (like me)?
- mahdaeng, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ah, the Atari 2600 - the beginning of the end of human civilization.
:^) - djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Fun fact: for the first four years of its life, the 2600 wasn't even called that - it was known as the Atari VCS.
- telengard, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Man do I feel old. Yars Revenge is still one of my favorite games to this day. Got my 2600 xmas of '79. Nice big B&W TV too.
- lharrod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It makes me wonder what games will be like 30 years from now. Will the kids of 2037 look at the games of 2007 and think how the how hell did we enjoy these?
- TechCF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Basement? My C64 is sitting here next to my dualcore dualscreen machine. Both deserve deskspace :)
Haul them both up and get them running. - theboozer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ah yes... Anyone remember who crappy E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was? By far the worst game that has EVER come out on ANY system. From the very first second I tried getting my blob of pixels to hunt telephone pieces, I knew I was in for something really bad. The bad design of the game very nearly rivaled the horrible soundtrack (?) that kept looping over and over in such short intervals, that just making it to the next screen (which took all of 45 seconds about) seemed like a grand enough achievement to pop that cartridge out of the damn system. Pitfall on the other hand was where it was at.
- McTendo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Pretty sure they worked on the VIC20 & C64 as well. :)
- dagr8tim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2*ponders setting his back up* I need to replace the wire that goes to the switch box, but I think Radio Shack carries them (and mine works, it's just taped up)
- Roagie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There are lots of great 2600 games, and an equal number of crap games (which led to the crash). Spider Fighter was great, actually almost any Activision game was great.
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Pitfall II stole a few hours from me....
- clemdionisio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I used my rotary paddles. Indy 500. Check out the ice tracks for wild drifting action but without the import models.
- stevex0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hell yeah I still have mine hooked up right next to the original nes that I got when I was 8. True those consoles where expensive at the time but I can't think of anything else that I owned when i was that young that I still use. I would say that was money well spent.
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Same here... the 2600 had very sleek keypad with an overlay, as if they were planning to make future games that would use this keypad.
- fallenone05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I remember playing this console when I was 5 yrs old like it was yesterday...it's the reason I'm still a gamer today at 25, thanks mom and dad for buying this for me, when I didn't even ask for it.
- kurtwinter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Ditto. Bought 3 2600's over my lifetime (2600jr in storage) and I love them. Can't get enough Yar's Revenge, Pitfall I and II and the best game ever on the platform: Solaris.
- SpiceWare, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Did you know the 30 year old Atari is still getting new games?
http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?main_page= ... - porkstacker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The young girl in the top-left photo on the front of the Atari 2600 packaging is my sister. True. Photography performed by Mr. Tom Tracy of Tom Tracy Photography (at the time his studio was in San Francisco, CA).
-he who stacks pork - sillywampa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Still have mine, it still works. I also have the original PONG system sitting in the attic.
one of my favorite games on the 2600 DIGG DUGG. - moeris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Pole Position is my first race game. :) Look for advertise to this game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om84Zc4-KcQ - Ohidjwae, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Man. . . those patches were awesome! Atari had their own primitive version of "achievements" right there, 25 years or more before Microsoft! :-)
- astrotrain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Enduro was one of the best racers for the Atari 2600... The best developers were between Activision and Imagic, between the both of them they really pushed the Atari 2600 to its limits.
