- Sornos, on 10/21/2007, -4/+71How about Orange Box +Halo 3= Fun?
Can't we all just play along (with guns and gratuitous violence)? - ttfadia, on 10/21/2007, -4/+42"gamining"? Really?
- LittleDas, on 10/21/2007, -1/+37Only if you don't have friends to play Halo 3 with.
I kid though, I own both Halo 3 and the Orange Box, and both are so fan-*****-tastic I don't like to see people putting one or the other down.
EP2 and TF2 are comparable to Halo 3 in that they're excellent refinements on an existing concept and Portal is something new and strange, and more awesome for it. - tehpwnrate, on 10/20/2007, -0/+25I'm glad someone actually read and understood the article instead of going "ZOMG Bioshock/Orange Box/[PS3 Game] IS SO MUCH BETTAR!!!111"
- Ipag, on 10/21/2007, -6/+31All you guys arguing about what game is better are failing to see the point of this article. Regardless of what you think about Halo 3, the game set a standard that all other games are going to try to achieve. Not in terms of game play but in marketing and fanboy devotion. Those two elements are not found in any other game so far. Only WoW comes close.
- Cockslap, on 10/21/2007, -2/+23300 mil in the first week isnt going to be eclipsed by any game in the near future....including Super Smash Brothers.
- shadowmoose, on 10/21/2007, -8/+27Wow I get to the site an a huge popup comes out of no where. Burried for pissing me off.
- HunterTV, on 10/21/2007, -42/+58Power of 3 = Episode 2 x Portal x TF2 > Halo 3
- ricodued, on 10/20/2007, -6/+15Laugh all you want. At the end of Halo 3, the final cinematics, I was deeply touched and moved. It really was like finishing the best book or movie in existence.
- ryansmith18, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6Save your speculation please. Nobody here wants to hear it. When Super Smash Brawl is released we can compare numbers rather than your desires.
- noahhoward, on 10/19/2007, -1/+7Bungie.
- shiv68, on 10/19/2007, -0/+6How is that 600 dollar paperweight working out?
- mtrip, on 10/19/2007, -3/+8It sold 3 million copies in Sept. It came out Sept 25th. If other game companies aren't at least pondering that, they're in the wrong business.
- thedragon4453, on 10/20/2007, -1/+5Funny that no ps3 game comes to mind...
- Whaines, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4You've never read a book, seen a movie, saw a performance, or heard a song that you felt emotionally for?
- ricodued, on 10/19/2007, -1/+5If they'd heightened the ceiling a bit, you'd be here bitching about how people just fly up in the banshee to huge heights and camp out and pick people off. The Forge limits do suck though. I should be able to determine how much performance I'm willing to sacrifice in order to get that one last fusion coil and blast that Warthog five more meters in the air.
- daizaru, on 10/19/2007, -10/+13So the "blueprint of success" is being unoriginal and and making sequels and hyping it like mad... shocking. EA does it, why shouldn't Microsoft. Before I get dugg down for not being an overjoyed halo supporter, let me just say... using this as a blueprint for future games is not a positive. That's my only complaint, I know the game is good for those of you who like the series. I know it sells a lot of copies, but in an industry where originality is slowly becoming frowned upon and remakes/sequels are the safe bet... I think we should be lending our support elsewhere and tipping the scales over to the 'Double Fine's of the industry. The other thing about halo is that it has a huge launch, but then everyone who wanted it has it already... it's not one of those games that's player base grows at an exponential rate or from the word of mouth these fluff pieces attempt to do.
And I apologize if you disagree, but this article is one of the biggest fluff pieces I've ever seen. Good game aside, it's an already popular game with a few added features and some nicer graphics... let's not hail it as the second coming of Christ or whatnot. - AwesomeMonster, on 10/19/2007, -4/+7Actualy hes getting dugg down because hes wrong and his example for his arguement is flimsy. If game time had anything to do with how good the plot was, portal would not be getting nearly as much of a good critical reception.
Heres some advice for your 5 hour problem. Don't play the game on easy. - cam503, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Is it just me or are there a bunch of idiots on digg now?
- cam503, on 10/20/2007, -0/+3I'll be gamining me some cake.
Too soon? Okay, sorry... - bj00rn, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3Rather the power of 2: Troll and polarization... Sorry, no dice, both games are amazing.
- kjk437, on 10/19/2007, -0/+3seriousguy is serious.
- CptCheerios, on 10/19/2007, -2/+5The article only talks about the Replay and that Master Cheif is a hero and that everyone wants to follow his epic story. The article is not digg worthy since if you played halo 3 or know about the game you already know the article.
Would be nice if the article actually analyzed the Halo 3 gameplay or had anything to do with the title or the summary. Just a Halo 3 Fanboy who found a new Halo 3 article. - inactive, on 10/19/2007, -8/+11Provides a blueprint of success for the entire gay-mining community?
- chris9902, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2Maybe Rockstar with GTA IV
- manitoba98xp, on 10/20/2007, -1/+3It will be delicious and moist.
- Thabor, on 10/19/2007, -0/+2
Amen to that. As if we didn't have enough already.. I can envision legions of games churning out mediocre sequels each year while Madden laughs at the world. The phrase "blueprint of success" should terrorize babies and make kittens cry all by itself. - Whaines, on 10/19/2007, -1/+3Maybe you just don't get the story. Maybe you're just used to, "But our princess is in another castle!" and can't accept that some games might have a deeper story than what's shown on screen? That's not to say that Super Mario Bros. is a bad game, of course.
- Lennalf, on 10/19/2007, -5/+7Blueprint for success? Success in terms of making cash, sure, but not in terms of serving the gaming community. We are talking about an FPS with dual-analog controls, FFS!
- tankdilla, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2Sornos, your ideas intrigue me. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
- oceanswillrise, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1i just got done playing this game for 5 hours straight
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1So the blueprint is keep giving them more of what they bought a lot of before, and be sure to market it a lot?
- BearinG, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I love the Orange Box, but Halo 3 is still great.. you people need to appreciate games for the games.. not which one is better
- oceanswillrise, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1every system to ever exist > ps3
- MrSteamTank, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1None of the weapons in halo 3 are useless. Unlike halo 1 and 2 the weapons are actually quite balanced. I can't believe you want to go back to the days of Halo 1 with the broken sniper rifle, shotgun, and pistol and the underpowered needler and assault rifle.
- Draiko, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Yeah, let's appreciate a $60-$130 game with a crappy 8-10 hour single-player campaign and somewhat fun multiplayer. That's WAAAAAAY better than a $60 package that contains 4 amazing innovative single-player games with 30+ hours of gameplay AND a stellar multiplayer title. Don't forget that enjoying games for the games doesn't mean you should sacrifice standards. Halo 3 is the fugly chick you take home and bang because you're too drunk to see straight. Let's just have sex for the sex, right?
- Skanadian, on 10/19/2007, -5/+6Hardcore marketing doesn't provide a blueprint at all.
- Ajajadude, on 10/19/2007, -4/+5Do you know why it's sold that many? Not because it's the best game in the world, but because of the fanboys putting it so high up on a pedestal that it created a huge amount of buzz. Halo was fun, it was great, it was unique. Halo 2 wasn't all that much better, and now that the hype has died down, Halo 3 isn't being referred to as the greatest game of all time as often as it did.
- Levarris, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1No I think I will still hate Halo 3
- Ipag, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I hope your joking but a game that has tie-ins with Coke, Toyota not to mention an entire episode of South Park is a marketing powerhouse.
- Konrad9, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1WoW? Marketing?
- codered1322, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1If you ain't first, you're last
- ScionX, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1Loser
- unjustend, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I bought it and I agree. But to each their own.
- Justizzle, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I'm a huge Halo fan, my icon has my Halo 2 icon, aka Marathon symbol, I think Halo (multiplayer-intense-wise) is the best FPS ever created. Bow to it. But I gotta say this: Halo 1 had a good storyline, and it left me hanging for the sequel. Then Halo 2 came out, it was awesome, but the story didn't pull me in. It just left me waiting for Halo 3. Then it came out, and now I find myself halfway through single player, playing FFXI instead... The story really isn't that great anymore, but for the mutiplayer, I consider this one of the best games of all time. So stop all these mindless arguments and face the facts. Whatever Bungie did is obviously working...
- codered1322, on 10/19/2007, -0/+1I love the Halo campaign a lot. I did not touch the multilayer for years. But I totally agree, the stories are not really great at all. Amazing gameplay, enemies, weapon system, and lots of other aspects. But the story is pretty unoriginal.
- Draiko, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, the standard it achieved was showing the market that overpricing a medocre game with crappy packaging won't detract from stellar sales. It's really a sad statement. There is a second statement Halo 3 made, the professional reviewers are worthless... the metacritic pro review score for Halo 3 was 96/100 while the metacritic user review score was 77/100. Meanwhile, The Orange Box scored higher user reviews, was a better game, and is much more deserving of the "best selling game in history" title than Halo 3. The console gaming crowd seems to be nothing more than a herd of consumer sheep willing to spend ungodly amounts of money on overhyped mediocrity.

- dungbeetle, on 10/19/2007, -1/+1Here's to all the people who say Halo sucks because it is repetitive: It's a game trying to tell a story. Why would anyone who is trying to portray a story like this want to change everything between installments? From season to season, or book to book, the great stories that people get attached to don't completely rewrite everything when they get the chance. Good storytellers want to bring you into a world that you can get attached to, not shake everything up just to make it prettier or more sparkly. People whine that games aren't taken seriously as an art form but in the next breath they will whine that a game doesn't have new toys or shinies. I love Halo, Half Life, Gears of War, and Zelda because they tell awesome stories, not because they have new toys to play with. ou should try paying attention to the story more than the toys sometime, too. It's so much more rewarding and the truly good games will flourish, and the shiny, crappy games will be left to the birds.
- damnyooneek, on 10/19/2007, -4/+4eventually but until it gets some good exclusive games the xbox is making more money
