For Halo 2 they used all game rendered movies (there was a lot of speculation that it was rendered at the time, but when Halo 2 came out everyone realized that WAS the engine). I can't wait to see what they're going to pull off with next generation consoles.
I also have a feeling that if "Halo 3" raps up the clilff hanger, I doubt it'll be the last game. They'll likely try to make some other kind of game, and then bring halo back for another run. Maybe not everything will make its way into the game, but listening to Frankie's updates, they've already recorded the new theme and have fully functioning portions of the game set out (especially multiplayer, which Frankie has said they've been playing for months now, only saying it was their "next project.")
Whatever they present at E3, it won't be the completely fabricated showing they gave for Halo 2. THAT thing was the reason Halo 2 ended up being rushed. I remember the footage dioscaido is talking about, that was some of the first footage, I remember drooling and feeling like a kid in a candy store when I saw that. It was however, actual real-time footage. It was altered in the final version of the game, although I can't remember how at the moment (I believe it had something to do with the Covenant bomb he took out with him?) Regardless, anything Halo 3, even if it's just pictures, will absolutely make my day.

The addition of dual wielding was probably the single most annoying thing that no one would shut up about when it was announced for Halo 2...I hope we don't have to go through the same thing again this year. Microsoft isn't remaking Halo 2 for 360, it's a new game!...yay, they're so innovative :|.

It's a third rate sci-fi plot built upon Done-to-death gameplay. Coming up with a more creative, interesting game doesn't mean that Microsoft still won't make a ***** ton of money. Perhaps it might even garner them a little respect. Trust me, they need it.

- PSUstoekl, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I have to say, after the disappointment that was Halo 2, I really can't get that pumped. I mean, yeah... the graphics will be better and everything, but the gameplay of this shooter really doesn't enthuse me. Just not my sorta thing, I dunno.
