- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32Anyone else kind of underwhelmed? I think Gears of War has set the graphical standard pretty high for Xbox 360.
- GraysDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19For a split second, you see dual wielded swords...
Rock the hell on! - zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18To kill?
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16these graphics are from months ago, read the bungie update. And a lot of these are just from the sandbox so you REALLY can't tell anything from those.
- FalseProphecy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17...Pissing has commenced.
- markingtime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Sounds like Someone is a Sword Whore in Halo 2
- zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Anyone else noticed the dual-wielding Energy Sword Elite?
Yummy. - eastbeast314, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12HD and SD versions: http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/1826/Halo-3-ViDoc/p1

"There are no finished graphics in the documentary, and everything you see is a work in progress."
Also:
"Everything you see here is a work in progress, and I’m afraid you won’t be seeing anything like finished graphics. This is just a chance to talk about the design philosophy and production behind what’s going to become a very important part of the next game."
Finally, in case you don't get the idea:
"The graphics you see in the Vidoc are a mixture of things. For one thing, they’re months old. We started creating that doc quite a while back. You’ll see some near final models, some rough character rigs, placeholder lighting and a lot of “sandbox” locations. These are basically spaces that the designers, animators and artists place their models to play around with them.
That’s one reason why there are so many scenes of big empty rooms with crates in them. There certainly are some scenes from the game in there, but alas, none properly lit, textured or populated (yet). That’s why we call it a work in progress. If you’re looking for the final look of Halo 3 campaign, it’s not in there, except in the briefest of hints." - mykbot2600, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The logical next step for the series is to once again step it up--TRIPLE WIELDING!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7From what I've heard.. the documentary is showing pre-alpha footage. So it's far from finished gameplay.
- spencewah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What up, Essay?
- SmudgeTheFirst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ Sandwiches_Time:
I agree. Hopefully if the graphics can't match Gears the gameplay will. - Videlicet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You can bet every desk at Bungie has GOW screens plastered all over it. Hopefully they won't disappoint.
- markingtime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In That Case Bring On the Dual Swords!
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Nice description. What a spammer.
(Youtube description, not digg.) - StorkPKP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Take a minute and read Bungie's site and you will see these are not final graphics. It is almost the first thing they say.
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Nah. Save your judgment until the game actually comes out. This is hardly representative of the final product.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5its a joke buddy
- PeteyUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Compared to gears of war. That just didn't look very interesting to me.
- damnyooneek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I dont understand why Halo is so popular? the online play isn't anything special. its basically counter strike or quake but *****. the single player game is repetitive; shoot all of the dumb AI aliens. someone give me a reason why halo is so good?
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5At least the sword won't be indestructible anymore. In Halo 2 you could run around with that thing racking up insane amounts of kills while everyone else threw their controller at you. With H3 the energy sword will actually run out of "energy".
- sensor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The models look like cartoon characters.
- drafhk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And if not the gameplay, maybe at least we won't have to play as the ***** arbiter. Or maybe at least Miranda Keyes will die. If not, we could have problems.
- FBMGriever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@CrimsonAdventure
"I bet the only games you like a soooo pussy...something maybe like the sims or *shudder* runescape"
Yeah you're right. I mean, Counter-Strike Source, Half Life 2, and even some Final Fantasy XII are pretty pussy...
"Start liking Halo...everyone else does"
That's almost enough reason not to like Halo. Please tell me one thing that Halo has done differently than any other FPS or please give me ONE thing that Halo has introduced to the FPS genre. I can't think of a single one. All of the multiplayer modes were done way back even with Perfect Dark. Halo's weapons are poorly designed, along with the entire gameplay itself.
To me the entire thing is an extremely boring game to play with a lackluster multiplayer. Even playing over Live is a snore. Why? Because Halo is basically a copy of every other ***** FPS out these days.
Everybody likes Halo probably because it was one of the first FPS' they ever played. Well I pioneered way back in the days of Doom and have good belief that when I say "Halo is overrated", I know what I am talking about. - Keiser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I don't like the new brute models, I prefer the Halo 1 look. As for the weapons I think they all look like something from UT as do the brutes, and that cheesy green blood.... UT look. I think they really need to stick to the Halo1 and somewhat Halo2 style of visuals.
- bonk2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think halo2 is so popular because the online experience is so god damned slick compared to other online console games. True, the story mode sucked, but i think bungie has developed a really solid fps that translates very well into the online multiplayer aspects of gaming.
- GNUGNOME, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If you mean halo 2, then yes. Personally i found it dissapointing compared to the first.
- Lax32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it is cool that they are developing the brutes more, they were definitely part of the reason that Halo 2 campaign sucked and was something that you only played once to get the storyline then if your internet was done and you couldnt get on live and there was nothing on tv...
The bottom line is that it is going to have to take a campaign twice as good as Halo 2s and an amazing multiplayer (since it is the only real reason Halo and Halo 2 have been so big) for halos legacy to continue. Gears of War is the benchmark, and it set the bar high, so I am expecting lots out of Halo 3. - donjaime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In case people didn't realize. The footage in the beginning part of the video was from Halo 2. The only Halo 3 footage is at the end where everything is textureless with just a white diffuse shader on everything, and then suddenly it pops into color and looks fantastic.
- tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now fighting the brutes are more frustrating, but I thought Brutes have purple blood, not green.
- ironpirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1halo 3 is going to be badass. Cant wait till online play.
- Miknarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I don't like the new brute models, I prefer the Halo 1 look."
halo 1 did not have brutes - Keiser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha, I was thinking of hunters
- sensor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Totally agree. The gameplay is very simplistic. Nothing new to the genre.
- sidizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HL1>HL2
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I also love how he severs the brute's legs off too, that'd be amazing if you could do that in the game....
- hyperden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this video has nothing really new, just gives us an idea of some ideas they have about the game. So like many have said, read what bungie said about the video. For me, I do wonder why they bothered even showing this video. But at I guess it will keep the Halo Die hards happy for a little while.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's so popular because it has such a community influence. I can log on and play a relaxed custom game with my friends and chat and have fun. It's just so much smoother and social than most games.
The way it's similar to Quake or Counter Strike is it's an FPS, other than that the game play mechanics are completely different. - SportBilly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Halo3 is what Halo2 was meant to be like? Brutes weren't properly finished in Halo2? so why should we believe they'll get it right this time?
- DanielNielsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If any of you have heard 1up´s dissection of that video, Luke says that footage is at least 4 to 6 or 7 months old, so a lot could have happened in the mean time. Cause that video was not very impressive, but then again it was alpha and if it is 4 to 7 months old, i hope it will look and play a lot better now.
- FBMGriever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're a tool.
- winterblink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not really pissing your pants material if you ask me. Not to troll, I mean it definitely looks good. I guess the main thing to keep in mind is that the video shows (at least on the 360 your can read the text at the bottom) that it's a pre-alpha build of the engine. On the 360 the textures are a bit chunky and things generally don't look polished... but that's what pre-alpha means. :)
Will wait to pass judgement when footage is shown from a build further along... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HD and SD wmv versions: http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/1826/Halo-3-ViDoc/p1

Bungie's announcement
http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?cid=9340 - TyPhyter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its FPS dude not much you can do to revolutionize the genre
- CrimsonAvenger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Those new brutes look like a bear version of a hunter...only much cooler !
- FBMGriever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Amen to that. Like I said, it's way overrated.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Halo 2 has the best multiplayer ever but the single player was highly hyped and ended up loses the feeling that halo 1 once was a good co-op game with huge open levels for you and your buddy to run thru with a awesome warthog that could take so much ***** without a scratch (highly unrealistic but better than destructible vehicles in my opinion). The only reason Halo 2 stayed in my xbox disc tray for so long was because of its multiplayer. Online Or Offline this game was intense and I always came back to this game even when some games had better more orignal multiplayer (Splinter CT was good) The Halo 3 footage shown in the documentary was okay. It good me excited and hyped for the game but that was it. I want to see more multiplayer footage next E3 before I start calling this Halo 3. For Now this is just Halo 2.5
- TyPhyter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0because the main enemy in the game are the brutes, and the flood...retard plus they have had well over half a decade to get it right
- TyPhyter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0GOW cant compare to the game play of even halo 2, i shudder to think what will happen with halo 3. GOW has amazing graphics, granted. but halo out ways the multi player on so many levels it is ridiculous! not up for debate cause I'm right and you're wrong if you disagree
