- CraigB12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+71Every night when i get out of work I put Crackdown in and go to the Halo 3 link. I then proceed to keep clicking it hoping that the game will go live, and i'll be the first one on. Although my children's development and the status of my marriage are in question, i think that ultimately this will pay off.

1. You're abusing the comment system because you hope to get dugg up.
2. Microsoft reiterated many times that: XBL was taken down to prepare their server backbone for the spring update (why would they need to take the system down to prepare for Halo 3?)
3. Why would Crackdown need to be update for people to get the Halo 3 beta (the download button already exists).
4. Hmm.... Halo 3 beta is going to be released Spring 07. It is currently Spring '07. Nah, the beta couldn't possibly be coming out any time soon. - SimonX314, on 10/12/2007, -5/+46I hope Bungie is prepared for the onslaught of millions of Halo 3 beta testers all trying to play on the first day. And I hope the beta doesn't launch during finals week.

...From *****' The Article? - wageslaven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29I'm willing to bet they dont. What about MS being the largest Software Company in the world would imply they wouldnt know how to anticipate and handle such an event?
These people plan software launches for a living. Operate MSN - the 2nd highest trafficed Website on the Interweb. XBox Live is excellently implemented.
If *ANYONE* can handle the launch traffic, its MS. - SnuKs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@ linkedlist
In other news... disappointed gamers who can't find Crackdown with beta increase 3000% - PierceUK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13From FTA
"Update 1: We're up and running on a brand new server. Tomorrow we'll bring a few more online for redundancy, but that's shouldn't affect anyone. To clarify, this was just a routine server upgrade, similar to when we upgraded the web servers a couple weeks ago, and isn't a hint of imminent changes in the beta status. For those who asked, this is simply the server that receives stats uploads from the xbox for display on bungie.net, it doesn't literally "run" the game." - Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That's Digg porn if I've ever heard of it.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I guess this will be a good time to get my Xbox Live Gold back on.
- Phyltre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Well, we DID hit Rockstar pretty hard last week. My worry is the download servers, not the actual beta servers. This promises to be the biggest hit Live has ever taken.
- joaob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7dumbass. months would bring us into summer. thats hardly a spring beta
- SnuKs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's possible, but not likely..
Remember it's not like the entire world is invited to the play the beta, plus not every copy of Crackdown has the beta... - FryedGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Uhh, wrong submitter.
FTA:
"For those who asked, this is simply the server that receives stats uploads from the xbox for display on bungie.net, it doesn't literally "run" the game."
The server upgrade was for portaling stats to their website, not th' beta servers. - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I hope you're never right.
- ansuhre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if the beta servers will actually host the games, or if they're going to be more like halo 2 where people in the game host. It would be so nice not to have people bridging for host just to cheat.
- Ashkc88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would the servers die? Microsoft already knows how many people have the beta, since they are the ones who let people in. I'm pretty sure they have already prepared for how many people are going to be on the game.
- Drkboarder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People take one word out of Bungie's mouth and are like ZOMG Halo 3 will have a cover system!
Buried for misinterpretation. - ripstuntz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2These are the stat servers, not the actaul servers that control the networking and such... sorry to burst everyones bubble......
- fizztpok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Uh oh. A story about Halo 3.
I predict a PaiZuri post talking about Halo's "shiny green metal effect" and Resistance's dedicated servers. - TheJas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2welcome to my blocked list
- TheJas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed, buried
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope thats possible. Of course, this would only be for ranked games... unranked games don't matter too much, and custom matches would obviously be hosted by the person in the room with the best connection, or the host.
- oDin420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i love how the submitted article says nothing about halo 3.
in fact it specifically says "this is simply the server that receives stats uploads from the xbox for display on bungie.net, it doesn't literally "run" the game" - galador, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're only upgrading the *stats* servers... not the ones that will "host" the beta.
- emdeesee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@wageslaven,
Just like they handled their movie store and how smoothly the download process went there? My xbox was downloading movies for 3 days only to tell me the movie wasn't downloaded completely. Calling Microsoft two days after the service went up to get points back for a movie which never downloaded and calling then two weeks after that when I figured (incorrectly) that everything should've been sorted out by then.
I'm going to guess it won't be as smooth as everyone would like. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this beta is more to test their end, the servers, and not the playability. I read on bungie.net that they're doing the beta because they want to test things that can only be tested with massive amounts of people. That screams server-side to me, but maybe there's a new matchmaking system they want to test as well.
- FryedGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh, the hosting debacle...I hated having people cheat when they had host. Hopefully Bungie/MS hosts their own damn game.
- dmunkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@snuks
Wasnt there a post on digg a month or 2 back about all copies of Crackdown containing Halo 3 beta entry code? - jinxsed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I doubt this counts as reliable but I think I recall from Microsoft's annual trade show, that the press conference revealed that the Halo 2 maps and the Halo 3 beta would be release simultaneously, the maps are set for an April 17th release, if my memories serve me correctly then that means a very short wait indeed for the beta. Let's hope that I was right.
- SnuKs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HAHA!
As much as that guys rides sony's dick, he spends more time complaining on 360/Wii related stories than commenting on Sony stuff. - uhal3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WTF is a Halo??
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@The people who claims that the servers WILL go down:
You know, one of the main reasons for the whole beta thing is just to make sure that the servers will hold when the game goes gold. Bungie doesn't want to you to get a free game, and they sure as hell don't count on getting any reliable bug reports from some random ten year olds who got Crackdown from his mother.
However, it doesn't matter as, as long as (that sounded really weird) I get to play Halo 3 in any way, I'm happy. - Makaveli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cant wait until Halo 3 arrives,i got it pre-ordered but i still never picked up a copy of crackdown for the beta tests.
Anyways i think i'll just wait ,lotta money for a broke ass like me - tjsocr1, on 06/09/2008, -0/+0Check out the first 8 minutes of the would be Halo movie at http://www.lamelime.com/index.php/topic,23.0.html !
- Banditron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As listed earlier, it will be released *Drum Roll* ------------ MAY 16 -----------!!!
To re-iterate in Old English:
Ye olde newest Halo, being the third in it's line, shall varily be bestowed upon ye betwixt the 16th May and 6th of June, this year of our lord 2007.
This means that the option will be up on the Crackdown menu at the same time.
Any more questions? - rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2what takes these ***** so long?...i would get banned for saying that on the forums at bungie, thats why i said that.
wont get to play anything, my online subscription runs out on the 17th. - jinxsed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They can't possibly have Bungie hosting games. It would cost millions of dollars to purchase, service, and maintain enough servers to host every game for the biggest multiplayer game that is going to hit in the next three years. Don't worry about losing ranks due to cheaters though, Bungie is using a new system for ranks. You get upgraded on individual performance, with less emphasis on winning. Winning is like extra credit.
And no this is not made up...EGM article from I think January...could have been February. - camstin22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is it to late to still get the beta through crackdown?
- Boomh4u3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1We still have a while to see the Beta...Summer doesn't start until June 21st or 22nd
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I hope Bungie is prepared for the onslaught of millions of Halo 3 beta testers all trying to play on the first day. And I hope the beta doesn't launch during finals week."
I highly doubt they know Halo is popular. - keebler28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"So yeah. Big changes coming. Big changes and big news. Next week is going to be significant." -------->
Bungie Weekly Update (4/6/2007) It's the 9th now...
I sure hope this month holds more than the Desolation and Tombstone maps in Halo 2 (still pretty freakin' sweet)!!! - AZRoboto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Can someone please post the article in here? I'm at school right now and Dugg Mirror isn't working for me.
- geekinabox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I speculate: New Halo 2 maps come out on Apr 19. I assume Bungie wants at least a 4-6 week buffer between the new maps and the beta -- otherwise, not enough people will buy the maps since they'll just be playing the beta. Bungie is a company, and unabashedly, they actually want to make money.
Based on this, I'd speculate that the beta will hit somewhere around June 1, which is in accord with the 'late spring' release date that is is often tossed around. - nesll22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Betas coming out the May 16th and lasting till June 6th.
- TheNeonNinja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know if the beta has offline local multiplayer?
- ansuhre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember the EGM article talking about the new ranking system. I don't remember it saying anything about how games were going to be hosted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe most other games on xbl are hosted server side.
- keebler28, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cya guys in the beta ;)
- JOhalloran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Finally, I got Crackdown with the beta, I hope it's out soon!
- gb06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0h3 beta STARTS APRIL.
