- jouissance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I've been following this mod since the beginning...can't wait for the release of a true Half-Life: Source.
- theragu40, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Valve is being really stupid to these guys. They are working so hard on this, doing something that Valve really should have done themselves, and they get no love. Boo to you Valve! (I do love Valve's games, though).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm wondering if VALVe is going to contact them about putting them on Steam as they get closer to release. Really, this mod deserves it. I wouldn't even call it a mod....It's just about as big as other VALVe games.
- t3hNinj4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just to give my two cents, I can definately see valve picking up these guys, especially in light of their history.
After all, they bought out the Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat guys, hired the student team that made Narbacular Drop to work on Portals, and put Garrysmod 10 on Steam. I can definately see them either putting this on Steam as a budget-priced standalone game like Garrysmod or Day of Defeat, or bundling it with Episode 3 or 4, like Portals, or doing both, like Counter-Strike Source; assuming, of course, that it turns out to be good, which I'm pretty damn sure it will be. - sandrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hopefully that "announcement" won't be a cease and desist order.
- android8675, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because Portal was something new...
A re-make of an existing idea is not quite as groundbreaking.
If these guys really want to get hired they'd come up with "something new", but I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Sorry to be the wet blanket, but I'd also like to point out that "some" mods that are based off existing Intellectual Properties (Simpsons, DBZ, Half-Life) are usually squashed before release, most IP holders like to keep their IPs as their own. I could see Valve hiring the team to work on the project if they felt the demand was there (I wouldn't mind seeing it), but I don't think Valve is going to "watch and wait" then give them some fantastic game development job, or maybe they will, who knows. Would make for a great portfolio though if it doesn't work out. - android8675, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You could of been playing Team Fortress Classic for the last what 5 years, but 19 years ago, geez when was that? I guess you would of been playing the Quake 1 version then? Could someone confirm if Quake was out in 1987? /chuckle /poke
- atmofunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2actual interview:
http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Interviews.Detail&id=63 - RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think once VALVe sees an almost-finished version they'll be so impressed that they'll either put in on Steam or make an announcement for it. Black Mesa: Source sure beats the hell outta the half-assed Half-Life: Source...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, they did say that VALVe is kind of sitting back and watching. You never know though. They might pop up at the last minute with a deal for them or something. They originally said that this mod is going to be free but hell, I'd pay for it. They deserve the money for all the work they're doing here.
- vdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This should have been dugg, not a snippet on Gamespot.
Really, if we want to show our support for the greatest mod ever (both in terms of size and awesomeness), we should give their site ( http://blackmesasource.com/ ) a big warm helping of the Digg Effect. - Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It was two kids, then it was the most popular game online, then Valve hired them and it went downhill from there.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There will only be 3 episodes now, not including Portal which will be worked into the Half Life universe.
- goffy59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Valve didint make counterstrike.. I think that was 2 kids and then valve hired them, nows it one of the most popular games online.
- trashken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they can hire a few college grads because of the Portal demo they did... why not hire these modders?
- Ildamos, on 01/05/2009, -0/+0They just released an official trailer. I Dugg it. :D
- goerg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1wow this game looks nice, hope they DON'T put it on steam...these valveguys already managed to take 50 bucks from me and still i can't play anything on steam...
- johntwoods, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0you know what would have been great? being able to buy and play team fortress 2 19 years ago when it was suppose to come out.
What is Digg?
