- fitzfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+74Yea, totally not worth $1.
- pennyfan87, on 10/12/2007, -40/+101But will it blend?
- ahknight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58You folks really overestimate AdSense payout if you think he'll get anywhere near that amount...
- bitt3n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59I'm going to go list a PS3 for 50 cents to make him look greedy in comparison.
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53What language do you think you typed that in?
- ahknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47Hang around Digg a little; we'll take that away soon enough.
- InfoFreedom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40I think he said he donate that money to chairity.
- Archer1980, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39http://onedollarplaystation3.com/
Direct Link to his site - AkatsukiNoTobi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40If this gets to the front page..... You can say bye bye to the good list and his site.
- ij00mini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36That seems a bit ironic, considering your name.
- davidsmero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34This guy deserves any good thing that comes his way. Hes going to make someone very happy and I think he deserves something great. Karma!
- Chmarr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34@daldredge: He typed it in Internet.
:) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36Yep, this is just another (smart) viral campaign to get traffic to his adsense ads.
- gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29it was dangerous leet speak, obviously
- thisisbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24he said all the money he makes off his website goes either to a local charity or so he can deliver the PS3 in person...below is a look at that meeting
"Hey hey!! Here's your PS3!!"
"Oh wow!! Thanks...........ok...well....merry christmas?*slowly closes the door in the akward silence that ensues* - ElMoustache, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24i hope some jerk doesn't lie to him, get the playstation 3, then re sell it on ebay for a lot more.
- chriscohoat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15unfortunately the site's down....
either way this guy is pretty inspirational for a fellow college student. i know firsthand what it's like to have to pay for college in its entirety, and 1700 dollars is a lot of cash any college student could use, even if his expenses are being funded by someone else. - ij00mini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Stop signing off with your name, especially because your username is the same thing.
- ElMoustache, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13i hope some jerk doesn't lie to him, get the playstation 3, then re sell it on ebay for a lot more.
that man has a pure heart, a real spirit of giving. - ahknight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Sony: makers of the PlayStation. They once made these things called a Walkman and Discman, too. Rumor has it that they made some other things, but no one outside of Japan really buys them...
- thecahos1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Good for him you never really hear people doing this kind of stuff anymore.
- MeThePeople, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11i suddenly have a new found respect for the average person
- GravyTrain6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I wish he would have spent at least some of that money, or at least a little more time on web design. I haven't been to a website with music automatically start since the late 90s (not including myspace).
- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Just because Greed gets the better part of you, doesn't mean everyone shares your opinion.
Since, he is hand deliverying the unit I imagine it will be quite obvious of the situation.
-Brett - AustinLucas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9wow. thats an amazing feat. goes to show that some people do indeed have holiday cheer to spare.
- xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7To everyone saying that he'll make up for it with adsense dollars I don't think a digg-front-page-traffic-for-a-day would be equivalent to 1700$. I've had a front page of digg traffic on my site and it hardly comes close to 1700$.
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8So, is it ebay's or sony's viral marketing? Or just the guy hoping to be on TV and pocket some money while doing it?
- zeno60, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6if you watched the video, the money he gets from ad revenue will be used to fund his trip to personally deliver the ps3 to the winner, or will be given to local charity in the event the winner is in another country.
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Maybe he has a job, I mean, 24-years old is old enough to have a steady job.
- zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It isn't a raffle you idiot.
- oldmanstauf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Riiiiight. Unthinkable that someone buying a PS3 would possibly also own other Sony equipment.
- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Zero,
What are you twelve? There are more constructive ways to get to your point, then mocking my signature in every reply. It is simply a force of habbit that I sign all forums "-Brett". However, since it apperantly grinds your gears (and a few others) I can easily stop doing it. - Brett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What the heck? Quit with the "signatures" I get it. You don't like them.
- Talphin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I was wondering how long it would take for people to start ripping this guy apart for having some ads on his page. Would you like me to light your torch for you good sir?
- ethon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5As a 20 year old, working college student, I would have plenty of money to do this if I didnt buy a new MacBook Core2Duo, build a new desktop, a 360, and a new 21" Widescreen LCD.
Not saying that I would, but just because this guy decided to be a nice person and spend $1,700 of his own money, doesn't mean he hasn't worked for it. As other people said, though, he will probably be able to recoup that cost with the adsense revenue from his website. I realize that he is going to use some of that money to hand deliver the system, but I'm sure he'll have some left over money after the plane ticket. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7From the ebay listing:
"I was initially going to list this PS3 for $1 million, with 90 percent going to charity, but found others had already gone that route"
What a douche. Try 99.9%, and we'll talk. Why the hell do you deserve $100,000, dickwad?
Hopefully anyone with enough money to donate $1 mill would have the good sense to give directly to charity, instead of giving this bag of ***** (or anyone like him) 10%. - knuvue, on 12/05/2007, -1/+4I don't think this guy cares who gets the PS3 ultimately, or if they were really deserving or not. I don't even think he cares about the "holiday spirit" or giving. He got on the news, now on the front page of digg, his website has traffic, and traffic = money.
This dude is an entrepreneur. I applaud him for thinking of this first. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd rather the winner sell it, keep the spare cash and buy one for retail price when they're not sold out everywhere.
- LanceHardenburg, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Yeah because no one but the people that work for Sony use their notebooks...
/sarcasm - OnlyShawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3While I GUESS this is cool, there are much more effective, REAL CHARITIES that are more deserving of the $$, and will do a LOT more good than feeding overhyped consumerism-induced ridiculous prices. (coughjustlikethatridiculousredcampaign)
suggestions? why yes, I do have some:
www.ijm.org (international justice mission: working to help countries enforce their own laws against such things as child prostitution, forced slavery, illegal land and property seizure)
www.samaritanspurse.org - Lion9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is lame. With $1700 you could do so many more noble things for charity, but they won't get you on Channel 5.
You can't feed people with a playstation.
This is a case of someone buying their 15 minutes of fame. - pureliquidhw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ij00mini
Thank goodness someone else hates that. I mention it every once in awhile, but it seems it is never enough.
It's a comment folks. Not a cover letter, not an article, not an assignment. Just a comment.
@ZeroMP
please don't :) I'll sell you a PS3 for a dollar if you do - elenadragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4At age 21 I started a job that paid $55k a year (programming). It's not that unlikely to have $1700 at age 24.
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4People are down digging this, but it's so true. How many stories from now until Christmas will there be about how someone bought some expensive toy and gave it away to someone? Hell, even Oprah is making a living off of this *****.
Now what about the millions of people who give to the Red Cross or some other non-profit organization which actually helps rid diseases (including malnourishment)? They don't get on the news or probably even care if they do. This is just another example of how materialized the west has become. ***** that *****.
Have $1700? Give it to an organization who will help 100+ kids instead of buying a stupid toy for a little brat. - BryceHutch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This is stupid, he could have done more good just giving $1700 to the Red Cross or some other charity.
- Brett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Listen to the freaken video. The money from the ads will pay for him to fly there and hand delivery the unit. So that he can "share" the moment of joy.
-Brett
edit: What "Zeno" Said :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I never thought I'd see the day where I'd rather read than watch. Why watch a video explanation when I could've just skimmed through a written version.
- iameightyseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Because "this listing is restricted to pre-approved bidders or buyers only."
- fofusion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm loving the toolbar/spyware on the reporters computer :-D
- g4blows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just try to think about all of the people who don't deserve it and are sending him lies in order to be put on the "good list." Hopefully it will go to someone who actually does.
