- pirco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I wonder how much it cost to play that game to get those points. I guess it doesn't matter though, to some people it's all about the journey, not the destination.
- bigballajrich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Very true. But it would be kinda sad if he got to like 60,000 tickets and realized that he already spent more then the console costs itself.
- Tiabin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I doubt he played those games and it just suddenly occured to him it might take a while to get 85,000 tickets. :-)
In all fairness though... I bet he got some kind of awesome hand-eye coordination benefit from hardcore gaming like that. - codykrainock, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Wow, this is so unbelievably uncommon! Nobody EVER wins high ticket prizes!
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If you read the article, it states that he spent more in tokens than Best Buy would have charged for the thing.
- kozie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Atleast he enjoyed spending his money...
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7From the comments the guy posted himself..
"For the record, during the seven months, I also redeemed for a four gig iPod nano for 44,000 tickets. Ironically I didn't earn extra tickets for a game, hence I'm stuck with Hexic and demos.
Tickets are earned by playing skill games. Anything from skeeball, coin drops, trivia and all of those tricky timing games.
For the record, I only spent about $460 to get this over several months. Slightly more than retail, but it was much more fun doing it this way. What says "gamer" better than gaming for your games? And yes, it was a deluxe version of the console.
I'm still learning all of the Live stuff and hopefully will fill out some of the multiplayer and friends features soon. I'm itchin to try out the headset. LOL" - Posted at 5:35PM on Jun 28th 2006 by DCFC Fan
- bnyoung11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4unless he is ridiculously good at those games, he probably lost quite a bit of money
- TwisteR, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm guessing he probably lost 200 dollars.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, he is ridiculously good.
Id say RTFA, however the page linked doesn't show the comments, click there and you will see where the guy himself posted as well as how much he spent and just a good chunk of more info on this is.

He's also got a leather jacket from Pepsi the same way.- Wolfman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7there's a pretty damn good idea. tell your brother thanks, I'll be doing the same next time a decent promotion comes along.
- returnofmalv, on 10/12/2007, -15/+8Or you could get a real job and just buy one.
- drog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16^you're obviously not in college
- TheSolomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Ya know... many of us are in college *and* have actual jobs too. Shocking, isn't it?! ;-)
- returnofmalv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"^you're obviously not in college"
I am a graduate student and I make money through scholarships, research grants, and TAing. All of which are much more fulfilling and rewarding than digging through the trash for cans. - astroid0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Golly retrunofmalv, you should really give yourself a pat on the back.
By any chance are you that kid who always races to be first done in class assignments, and then looks down on everyone who takes a few more minutes to do the work? I bet you are.
- JoVoCop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6How many tickets would you need for a PS3?
- CharlesSaint007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13100,000 tickets and your left testicle. I think that's the going rate...
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4
What says "gamer" better than gaming for your games?
What says loser more than spending "several months" grinding away to overpay for an Xbox 360? He could have spent that time getting good at an Xbox game and maybe entering a pro championship if he's that dedicated to gaming.
I hope this guy never discovers MMORPGs, it might be fatal to his health!- lcohiomatty86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13what makes him a loser for doing this?? is he any more of a loser than somebody who makes their own items from scratch?... the satisfaction this man got when he finally got the 85,000th ticket is alot more than just plopping down 4 benjamins at the local best buy.. and heck.. this guy is famous now.. goin to best buy to get an xbox won't get you on the front page of digg ;-)
- joseph93, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Meh. I'd rather get it at a store. It just feels like you're not actually getting a good one, even thought they are the same.
- infinityplus1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I watched a guy play skeeball at a Dave & Buster's in Chicago (suburbs)... he was wearing a jacket that had "2003, 2004, 2005 Mid-West Skeeball Champion" written on it. I watched him for about 5 minutes and he played 8 games in those five minutes. He got the max score each time he played, except once and then he missed the max score by only 100 points.
Each of the times he got the max score the light on the lane he was playing would go off and a siren would go off. I think someone like that could probably do pretty well, at least breaking even on their invest in "tickets" or credit from D&Bs. And as the guy in the story alluded to why not have fun in earning something you want.
As for the guy I watched in the Chicago D&Bs, I walked by about 30 minutes later and he was still playing (and winning).- PigeonSt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12That guy has some confidence to wear that Skee Ball Champion jacket around.
- TheSolomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Indeed. His jacket should probably read "2003, 2004, 2005 Mid-West Champion Ass-Beating-Recipient."
- thomasthecat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Indeed. His jacket should probably read '2003, 2004, 2005 Mid-West Champion Ass-Beating-Recipient.'"
Whatever, man. Have you ever been hit in the face with a skeeball? Those suckers hurt.
- spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5awesome
i wish i had the time, dedication and money it takes for something like this
or that there were any dave and busters anywhere in northeast ohio- drewcare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There is a D&B in NE Ohio off of I-90. Been there a few times.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Um, good for you?
- ThreeDogg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think there's one in Lakewood. Or is Rock River? Well, like drewcare said, it's off I-90 on the West side of Cleveland.
- spamzor, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2That's so stupid, if I were that guy I would be embarrased, the amount of money wasted!
- itseffinkasey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3if this guy just got an actual job i'm sure he would of had his xbox 360 a long time ago... but hey whatever floats his boat right?
- matariel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He spent more money doing it this way, so I doubt it's about having a job or not.
- abeg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5cool.... all i ever got was a face mustache
- dvddesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I just waited for puberty. Saved a ton in tokens and points.
- abeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2oops ment fake
- madcow19, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Reminds me of the time my brother and I spent $20 at an arcade to get enough tickets to get this little, fake porcelain dish for our mom for Mothers' Day. It probably would have cost $3-4 at any discount crap store, but we had a lot of fun.
- mrhags, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1That's awesome, lol I would much rather play that game for hours with money that you scrape up from places then work at a fast food restraunt for two weeks.
- Wickerman392, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its pretty unlikely that he exploited the games, but I remeber once, long ago, that I found this "earthquake game," where you stick a quarter in and navigate it thru obstacles, which could be easily exploited. Basically you would get the quarter stuck over the hole at the end and it would empty out all the tickets in the machine. I was able to get it "stuck" most of the time so I emptied that SOB like 3-4 times until the ticket dude started giving me dirty looks. In the end I got a crappy pump action water shotgun and some inflatble crap I don't even remeber. Whats the moral of the story? I dunno, Bender rules. Well since he ended up spending more money than it costs to purchase it, it kinda takes away from from the glory.
- steverl22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I work for Dave and buster's game room, I'm a senior game tech and all I can say is that game is messed up. Every now and then you'll come across games that are paying out way too much and that's what this is all about. It isn't an everyday thing and can tell you that, when you play games any where you end up spending $600 to get a $400 prize.
- SenorFrog21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Is it really that big of a deal that he spent a few bucks more than retail to get it? Lets just assume a 6% sales tax. 400*1.06=424 bucks. He spent $460. If he was going to buy an XBOX either way, that means he spent $36 to have 7 months of nightly entertainment at D&B. Not too shabby if you ask me.
- lunatech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I bring some very useful Chuck E. Cheese experience to the table having worked there during High School.
In Chuck E. Cheese, a ticket has a value of 1cent. (2000 pt. item can be purchased for $20 + tax)
This is the same I'm sure for Dave & Busters. So they basically paid 850.00 for that bundle. That's no bargain unless you're hitting Skeeball jackpots every round. - erichoya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Back in the day Chuck E. Cheese had a game where you had to throw plastic balls in a trash can that kept opening and closing. My friends and I would team up and instead of tackling a trash can on our own (there were four of them) we would direct all fire to one only as a group (spending only one token) .... Came away with soooo many tickets by working the system a little. They don't make those velcro wallets like they used to...
- bradboob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or you could just win your Xbox 360 from Mountain Dew like i did :)
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"It turns out he spent a bit more than boring old Best Buy would have charged, but it's not about logic, it's about nerd bragging rights"
As long as it's not about logic. If you're spending that kind of time at Dave and Buster's then you probably a) don't have TIME for the 360 and b) don't know how to use that new fangled toy you just got in that pretty white box - Bladeweever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Big deal. Just over 4 years ago I won two PlayStation 2 units (at 47000 tickets each) and a 20" TV (42000 tickets). If you're not good at math, that's 136000 tickets!
How? I managed to get hold of around $2700 worth of free $10 D&B play cards. I have to say, though - it wasn't much fun after the first couple of weeks... it was hard friggin work!
I did it over the course of about 6 weeks, which was necessary because the cards expired 8 weeks after I got them (which is why I got them - who would have thought anybody would be crazy enough to do this?)
Oh, and my ex-wife won our son an xBox from McDonalds 2 years after that. :)- astroid0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I say big deal to YOU.
- thebuggalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I won my Xbox 360 through Microsoft. They came to my college and showed off Vista, then raffled off a few prizes. And I won the Grand Prize. I got a Premium 360, and 5 games for free. I was excited. Winning stuff is fun, so congrats to DCFC Fan, and anyone else who won their 360!
- ph30nix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got my xbox from Bill Gates directly when my dad went to some conference for Microsoft a few years ago... all the invitees got an xbox and some other MS stuff just for showing up :)
There wasn't another one for the 360 tho :( And I don't feel like shelling out $400 yet. - sonyedorly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that is crazy, I cannot believe that he spent all of that time just for a 360!!! It was probably worth it tho! think of the intense satisfaction of doing that and then handing in the tickets. The guy at the counter must have been amazed!!!
- bprice25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy is either crazy good, or he spent more than $460. I'm not sure how much the coupon games are at Dave and Busters, but let's say they're $.25 for arguments sake. That would mean an average payout of 46 tickets per game played! Do these games even payout that much for one game? I haven't played skee-ball in years.
- ajwinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh yeah, ticket inflation is through the roof these days
- videogamechamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember I got some cool stuff from sports plus once. I had around 2000 tickets stashed in my room, from beofre they had reciepts. I brought em in, and I dont know why, but they each counted a 4 tickets, so me and my friend bought massive amounts of candy and super balls, and some other useless junk.
