- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -11/+43it would be better on the wii b/c it is going to be half the price as a ps3.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Exclusive Legend of Zelda riffs on the Nintendo version.
j/k (though it would be cool). - Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34I dugg this story, but *why* would it be better on the Wii? I mean, you'd still have the same guitar controller.
- deboosher, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26the one thing that comes to mind here for me is having one guy with two wii remotes on drums, one guy on bass, and the other guy on lead guitar.
all 3 of us chillin' by the wii, playin' music, or even at our own homes, jammin'
that'd be awesome!!!!!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Great news, Guitar Hero would be AMAZING on the Wii (as would Gitaroo Man)
- kwazyJAS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I actually think it would be better on xbox 360 if they allow you to download songs to the hard drive with xbox live. I remember DDR games did that on xbox.
- sifelltneytandi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Masterfunk -- the main appeal of the game is using a mock-guitar for a controller. It would be infinitely less fun using anything else.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22"it would be better on the wii b/c it is going to be half the price as a ps3."
I like your reasoning
... - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Two words: "Theremin Hero" ; )
- lukasm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I think the best option would be a guitar 'shell' for the wii controller, like the light gun. This way it would have the feel of the guitar, but be much cheaper due to the motion sensing, buttons, and wireless already being in the wii controller.
- afpunk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I love Guitar Hero. I even love 2 player Guitar Hero, and I'm glad they're adding bass tracks or rhythm tracks for that. However, when you get to the point of 3+ people playing a full band worth of instruments its time to start thinking about starting a band. Guitar Hero is extremely fulfilling to play. Writing music and playing real instruments in front of people is a lot more so. Play Guitar Hero when you can't get the whole band together, play real instruments when you can. It works great and a lot of fun both ways!
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This would be sweet because they might just make a new controller altogether to support the Wiimote. For example, imagine a casing that supports the Wiimote just like the light gun accessory. You slide the Wiimote in and voila! You have the same guitar controller we all are used to and love, only with COMPLETE gyroscopic sensativity! With this you could basically rock out and watch as your onscreen persona replicates your motions and movements, including potential headbanging or rocking to the beat. I think the options are very good here and would love to see this happen.
- mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10The Wii is sounding bteer and better each day.
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey, I actually got some good answers to my quasi-rhetorical question. To summarize:
Advantages for Wii:
* Guitar controller could be implemented as a "shell" (driving down costs)
* Maybe some Nintendo songs/remixes.
* Doesn't cost $600
Advantages for X360:
* Download new songs from Xbox Live (either free or for a small price)
* Doesn't cost $600 - igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i believe it's going to be for the PS2
- stable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Man despite being out of topic I completely agree with your post. People talk like if they had just come from a future in which SONY has filed for bankruptcy, Apple has overcome Microsoft's dominance, and Nintendo has completely and successfully revolutionized the gaming industry. However, unlike you, I find the whole hype funny.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Word, I think people confuse RedOctane working with Nintendo meaning they would use the Wii controller, I think they would just be smart and make the Guitar with a USB to work with all the systems (do not all have USB ports?).
- thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Activision bought out Red Octane. Activision has stated it has no problems releasing the next version on *ANY* console
- Bakkster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Too bad not everyone can start a band...
I've played in several bands, but as a college student I just don't have time to coordinate schedules with everyone. Guitar Hero is the next best thing (especially when you can get drunk and still beat your friends). - StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Guitar Hero already does - once in while you get a powerup, and pulling back on the neck of the guitar like an 80's hair metal star gives you double points.
The Wiimote, though, definitely has potential for being a far more senstive device - as the interviewee mentions, it could be used to match your character's motions with yours precisely. Maybe an added minigame sort of thing where you shoot at something on the screen for extra points during a song?
The potential is unlimited. - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5VorpalK:
Not a bad link, "thewiire.com" is not allowed on Digg.com for I have no clue what reason (try so yourself), so I had to use a re-direct url. I also find it amusing/odd that I had submitted this earlier today ( http://www.digg.com/gaming/Guitar_Hero_interested_in_Wii_-_Guitar_Hero_is_not_limited_to_Sony_ ), but for whatever reason, the story was buried, I resubmit it with another link, and now it hit the front page. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The Wii wouldn't make much of a difference to Guitar Hero.
On the PS2, it uses a Guitar Hero guitar accessory which has tilt sensors. If it were going to be on the Wii, I'd think that it'd still have a guitar controller and the Wii's controller would have little to do with the guitar.
The Wii would be great for other music rhythm games from Red Octane, though. :D - Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ok Idea same basic Guitar Hero controller one major diference. In the neck add a section where the WII mote will snap in much like the Zapper Add-on. This way you keep the orignial feel while adding wild new functionality. I bought it for PS2 and I will buy Guitar Hero 2 But I will defintaly rebuy it for the WII if they make it. Oh and some ACDC and Metallica would be great hope they get em for Guitar Hero 2!!!
- spidermanspants, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6guitar hero without the guitar? The most appealing thing about GH was the controller, the wii remote can try to emulate it but it sure as hell won't replace the guitar feeling
- enemyseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I heard if you learn to actually play guitar you can attract girlies.
- dolson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I guess I'll just have to try it if it comes out for Wii. Otherwise, it just seems like DDR on a plastic fretboard. And while you look silly either way, I think I like my DDR mats just fine.
- evoleddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It should be on all consoles
- schleufer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@dolson - I can play guitar. I can actually play "Bark At The Moon" in its entirety, and have been able to play it for damn near 20 years, after seeing Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne) in concert.
"Bark At The Moon" on Guitar Hero presents a whole new friggin challenge. "Medium mode" is pretty damn difficult. "Hard mode" is damn near impossible. Mad props goes out to the people that can get 95% or higher in "Expert mode".
Playing "Bark At The Moon" on my Gibson doesn't make me a good guitarist (actually, it probably makes me look old and cheesy), but it is used here for comparison purposes.
Guitar Hero is a fun game, in the same vein that moshing, air guitar or headbanging is fun. Yeah, it's kinda dorky, but that is part of what makes it so damn fun. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I hearby dub this future game Gwiitar Hero!
For those about to rock, we salute you. - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just to defend the Wii on your statements.. you say that Nintendo is not offering "a traditional way of gaming" .. but they are, they have the regular controller (as seen here http://www.n-sider.com/newsview.php?type=story&storyid=2042 ). And did they not say that the new Super Smash Bros Brawl will be using the regular controller and not the Wiimote. So that takes care of RPGs, Fighting Games, Wrestling, Sports (though I can see this being more for Wiimote based on demos), and Side Scrollers.
As far as being very expensive, we are all left to see that, because right now, the PS2 controller retails for $34.99 (Of course it can be found cheaper, but that is the retail price on it) - DragonQuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1although true it would be nice to have it on xbox 360 with the downloadable content and all...but since the Wii will have the virtual console thing goin on...couldnt they do the same thing? i mean there is the Wiiconnect24...the Wii is always connected...plus just about any game for the Wii would most likely kick ass.
- igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this is kickass...
i'm a HUGE fan of GH on the PS2 and i'm planning on buying a Wii, so i think this is gonna be awesome!
digg! - schleufer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I finally broke down and bought Guitar Hero the other day ($70 with the guitar). It is definately worth it.
Since we only have one guitar, we have tried the multiplayer mode with PS2 controllers. It is barely playable and gets very difficult very fast. The PS2 controllers just don't give you the same feeling, the guitar is a MUST HAVE (cuz it roxxorz).
I don't think the Wii will attempt to use the standard controllers. There isn't any benefit, and it certainly wouldn't make the experience any better.
However, it would be nice if RedOctane came out with a standardized controller, with USB and various plug adapters. That way, we could plug it into the PS2 or Wii (maybe XBox or PC?). The guitar by itself is $40, which isn't exactly cheap for a one-game controller. - jamesvaughn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yet another wiison to enjoy my Wii. I've been wanting Guitar Hero for a while now & haven't got around to getting it, just ordered a Wii so this would literally rock. Guitar Hero seems to have that not-necessarily-hardcore-gamer crazy fun for all vibe just like the Wii does.
- tommarley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vid of Wii Music Orchestrator in action at E3: http://digg.com/gaming/Video_of_Zelda_composer_conducting_game_orchestra_using_the_Wiimote
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Motion sensing takes on a whole new meaning when you think about "Metal Moves" - you know playing with your axe pointing straight up, behind your head or kicking that leg out in a massive powerstance. Now that's the rock star experience.
- t3h5nip3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok first off all the new systems have online capabilities so if you say i think it would be better on this because you could download songs well too bad all would have that capability and the wii casing idea good but they would have to make the wiimote get hit exactly by the correct color and the little control stick instead of the little bar to hit would be harder also the wammy bar start button and all of those extras to think of so you would have to make that plug into the wii mote then have the num chuck still be able to do the same so...im saying at least i would rather pay more and just get the controller. Also i think they plan on allowing you to just use the wiimote plus numchuck...whatever you want is ok.
- VorpalK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What is this "briefurl.com" crap?
Reported as bad link. Link directly to the story next time. it's not that long a link.
http://www.thewiire.com/news/318/1/EXCLUSIVE_The_Wiire_Speaks_with_Harmonix - crackerjack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Couldn't they make a 'husk' guitar into which you plug in the wiimote? Sort of like the gun attachment. That way, you can have the guitar, which would just interface with the wiimote. The wiimote would do all the wireless stuff and the tilt control.
You could probably even get it to control your avatar in the game... nothing too big, but maybe turn around or show the way you are holding the guitar...
So many possibilities...
Oh! And because the wiimote would do all the work, the husk should be cheaper, leading to an overall cheaper game. Here's hoping!
Edit: Wow... just read the article... and I feel foolish because they pretty much said everything I said... eh. Oh, well. - isaymeow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As much as I would love to see "Master of Puppets" on GH2 I doubt metallica will EVER allow a game to use their music. But we can dream can't we?
- igraham09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it's in november...
that narrowed it down some
:D - isaymeow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Well I guess if that situation were to arise we would have to consider: do we want it to be a stand alone controller where it had nothing to do with the Wii remote, or do we want it to plug into the Wii remote"
They won't get rid of the guitar controller. They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did. - tonejava, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2> *why* would it be better on the Wii?
Because the wiimote acts as the pickup for a real guitar?
:) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Why do we need the Wiimote for Guitar Hero...
Hmm can't we just have a Guitar Hero 3 on the PS2 as well? I know Guitar Hero 2 is coming out...and do we really need a graphic improvement for an already fun game?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but hardly any of us here have used a Wii...so why are we so overly confident on how 'great' it's going to be?
Wasn't the Virtual Boy supposed to be the next big thing...and it flopped because the non-traditional way of gaming caused a lot of problems or inconveniences for those who did game traditionally.
I know I personally don't want to be waving a remote to play a game, however I know some who do, and that's good for them. But Nintendo is not offering HD, movie playback capability, or a traditional way of gaming.
And there's a lot of games that are huge sellers that don't quite fit the styling of the Wiimote...
for example:
RPGs (Huge market)
Fighting Games
Wrestling
Sports
Side Scrollers
I wouldn't want to do the nunchuck controller for a fighting game...
And not to mention that the Wiimotes are going to probably be very expensive too.
It's my thoughts, not yours, I don't crap on other peoples thoughts, but take this for consideration. - sangsara, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1spelling, my man. unless they've just edited it, whittle was originally spelt widdle. no problem with usage.
- GrahamStw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1WTF are you on about sangsara?
whittle (v): To reduce or eliminate gradually, as if by whittling with a knife.
Sure sounds like the right usage to me. - Insert31990, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9Yes.
Wait. Let me re-phrase that.
YES! - shawnanigans, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Here is how it would be better.... Legend of Zelda: Guitar of Time.
- ExplosiveNixon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ask yourself: "Could this get any hotter?"
