- cameron074, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28lol, thats awesome. detroit can't buy a break
except for this guys wrist - marklj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17man, you took this story waaaaaay too seriously if you actually buried it.
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Well, I guess it's a good thing he didn't over-exert himself with the Wii, or else he'd be tied up like a pretzel right now.
- DarkStalker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Oh shut the ***** up.
- wusupdoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I don't know much about baseball, but I do know Joel Zumaya was a relief pitcher, so he could play more than 2 games.
Either way, Joel Zumaya was only part of the problem. - PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This is why Curt Shilling prefers MMORPGs.
- kuj007, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12guess he wasn't that much of an Iron Man after all...
- xs3p, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8i can imagine Zumaya breaking a tv or two.
- JaybeasCorpus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Have you actually played Guitar Hero, or are you, like many people who criticize the Wii, DDR, Guitar Hero, and games like it, merely criticizing because you think people look silly playing it?
- therobd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7He did have that throwing error that cost Detroit a game. Maybe he was doing a little too much "Spanish Castle Magic" the night before.
- mattjvw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5He'd have to make it there first.
- lostmongoose, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9'guitar heroe'
Dan? Dan Quayle, is that you? - heycasey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4First of all, how about linking to the actual article:
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061214/SPORTS02/612140388
Second, the article states that playing the game sidelined him during the ALCS, NOT the World Series. From the article:
"The Tigers asked Zumaya to stop playing the video game, and he did. Zumaya then pitched pain-free during the World Series, and went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three appearances." - therobd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You mean Tigers fans?
- scottmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Is that a reference to Disco Demolition Night, when the White Sox and the Tigers met on July 12, 1979?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Demolition_Night - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That was a mix of ye olde english and aol speak, I think.
- kodiak92865, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4he looked like he was healthy when he threw to third base with runners on 1st and 2nd.
Does it matter if he was healthy for the ALCS or the world series? The issue is he is an dumbass and he got hurt playing a video game that simulates guitar playing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The best digg title I've seen in a while.
- mrjkwik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, that was uh, informative. Nice to see that the idea of personal responsibility gets dugg down.
- drunkjack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4No, sloppy fielding mostly from pitchers lost them the World Series. Lack of offense lost them the World Series.
Here's hoping Sheffield can shore up the offense and they can have the pitching staff learn some fielding basics from Kenny Rogers. - thetanbark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Peyton Manning loses Super Bowl thanks to Wii-Elbow from playing Wii Sports.
- lucask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeap, Beast and the Harlot on expert will do it to you.
- EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't blame the guy... GH is so fun & addictive. He'll never pitch again now that GH2 is out.
- RichM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol! That's awesome. I'm sure the GM is thrilled.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Detroit Rock City!
- toshipaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Seems someone is on a negative Digg drive by. I found many of the negative comments positive.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Negative diggs, I'm not surprised.
- ckinney23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Priceless
- bobfet1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's always kinda cool when to see that famous people play video games too.
But he was only sidelined for the ALCS, not the World Series. - stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol, baseball players have the lamest excuses for being 'injured'.
- ruyn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I have played guitar hero multiple times and I have no clue how he could come close to injuring himself. This is all a giant speculation.
- spartan778, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1***** you *****.
- StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I'm gonna go ahead with Steroids.
- Raiken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Go Cards! He may have been healthy for the World Series, but he still made some costly errors to give the Cards the win. Was playing "Bark at the Moon" on expert worth more than a World Championship Ring? I don't think so.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Game player ruins game by playing a game. Important news.
- toshipaine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Sure. Why not. Everyone else blames video games.
- bigstinky, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3You suck, dicktard.
- LiveFastDieOld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Zumaya is a relief pitcher. He could have pitched maybe five or six innings at most.
It's just silly to think one relief pitcher would be able to swing this World Series in the other direction. It wasn't even that close. - dc45, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Take a look at the 2001 World Series where Schilling and Johnson each pitched in 3 games. Granted, Johnson was a reliever in Game 7 But Schilling started games 1,4, and 7.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/postseason/2001_WS.shtml - davidarcila, on 01/10/2009, -2/+1that's called Chaos Theory.

http://www.renderous.com - greenhornet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Roid Ragin' Rogers won't be any good to them next year (with or without the pine tar and sandpaper). The Gambler is done.
News flash - relief pitchers don't win games that you can get ahead in. Detroit would've needed to have the lead for Zumaya to be a factor. - ronaldst, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Taking personal responsibility about one's action is not cool. M'kay?
- atkruz789, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yankees never made it to the ALCS. That is where the Tigers blewout the A's in 4.
Still kinda of hard to believe that he injured his wrist that much playing GH and that was not even close to the only reason they lost the world series. - GeorgeZimmer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1well i dont know where this ***** came from, but as i recall he was pulled out of the AL series for game related injuries, then was brought back when they had healed for the world series. One would guess that not playing for an extended period of time then trying to play would contribute to his poor throws.
plain and simple: he was out of practice. - spartan778, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Detroit sucks anyway. they would have lost no matter what.
- kliptic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1THE END IS NEAR; trash the games we must save our pitchers :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Or the fact that Detroit was stock full of journey men and unprepared, inexperienced rookies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1"WHEN are people going to get beyond the false idea that gamers are all unemployed, sweaty losers living in their mom's basements who have never been laid, nor will they ever get laid?"
While it is true that not every gamer meets these specifications, and it doesn't need to be stated in such derogatory words, it is true that a large portion of the "gamer" demographic consists of people who are looking for an escape from common culture. They're people who want to get away from society in many cases. So, to touch on each point here:
-Unemployed
I'm not sure how this conclusions was found. It takes money to keep up with the video game industry. I would assume that most people who buy video games have some sort of income.
-Sweaty
What part of playing video games makes people sweat?
-Losers
Having a different lifestyle may make you a loser in one person's eyes but a hero in another. Some people will love you for refusing to be a part of the mainstream while others will call you a sweaty loser.
-Living in their mom's basements
I don't recall reading any consumer studies that indicate that a majority of gamers live a) with their mom or b) in a basement. However, it can be assumed that since market studies *have* shown that video games appeal in a majority to the younger crowd, most gamers probably do live with their moms.
-Nor will they get laid
I'm pretty sure that your ability to put your penis into other people isn't a major indicator of whether you're interested in video games, contact sports, or some other hobby. I'm also of the opinion that your choice of whether or not to remain chaste should not be a measure of your success in life.
Conceivably, it may be concluded that while this article may be well meaning for gamers, more research may need to be done to validate many of its claims. - LordDshyzL, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Oh he is already all over this
