- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21LOL, your mom beats you at Tetris. Is she a milf? What's her phone number?
- EquinnoxX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11"Guinness Book Adds Video Game Scores"
...And captioned under every picture is going to be ' OMFG HAX!!11!11 ' - dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Wow that is a great story. You should consider a movie adaptation.
- Hayes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The only way to *truly* prove your high score would be to play the game in front of them (the Guinness people). But what are the chances you will get the high score again?
Idea: They should add games to their website. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yay a list of fake scores hacked by people who know assembly
- The0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"For the first time... once again..."
So which is it? Is it the first time or are they doing it again? You can't have both.
Otherwise, cool. - astatine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"The most gratuitous use of the numeral '1' to replace exclamation marks in ironic hyperbolae when closing an internet post is held by..."
- SlappyMc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Canada FTW...literally.

- ardenr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@Cleanlyness - you forget the /retard. I'm Irish American BTW and would love to visit Canada. Great drug laws, and hysterical people eh?
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cleanlyness...
You used "^_^" in an internet exchange and you want to talk loser status? - Ranadok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have a 1998 edition right here, and it has two pages for video games (though the only actual record it has is for Super Mario Kart) Most of it is made up of guidelines for submitting records for a few other games (Mario Kart 64, Shadows of the Empire, Ridge Racer, Soul Blade, Sega Touring Car, and Worldwide Soccer 98, specifically). It isn't much, but it means that this next edition is neither the first ever nor the first in 20 years to feature video games.
- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Me! LOLZ!!1!1!11!!1!!!!
- Santabot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Was about to post the exact same thing....
Video game scores were in the last edition also... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes... finally a perfect category to place next to "Most Consecutive Years Without Having Sex".
- bbhh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hmm.. my goal of being internationally recognized for my minesweeper prowess just got a little bit easier. wait, is minesweeper a 'videogame'?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+10Being in Guinness for this is every boy's dream, admit it...
- threemagic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dragon's Lair is in there? Then I should be! The high score in Dragon's Lair is a set maximum amount (it escapes me now) but I did it and received a baseball cap, member's only jacket, tokens, and tons of buttons from my local "Two Bit Operation".
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Desert Bus: 3 points
- rocketryguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saw a documentary about a guy going for the record in missile command, the biggest problem is that the older arcade machines occasionally just crash and reboot. The poor bastard had been going for two days and the damn thing rebooted on him. Didn't make the record, which has been standing since the 80's.
- CaseKey, on 06/06/2009, -0/+1So is announcement some sort of record? Will they add it to their book as well?
http://onlinevideogamerental.info/2008/12/28/gamef ... - 0firefly0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...do you play for days?
- CatalystGhost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh god... better hide this from my dad... he'll start writing letters to them saying how he got the Gauntlet high score once when he was younger... sorry Guinness guys!
- Spr0k3t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg down for spam
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a clause following "For the first time" and that clause in "in 20 years" so that means that this is the first time since 1987, but there is no clause following once again, so it is a perfectly legitimate sentence, although it could be written more clearly.
- Actionjakson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Next we need an official record for most world of warcraft play days, aka the person with the least amount of life alive.
- jarrydm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im sure the 1998 edition had mario kart time trial times, that was not 20 years ago, why aren't they considered scores
- Hyter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"For the first time in 20 years..."
Sorry, meant to be a reply to The0. - Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It could be related to modern games... Xbox Live! Arcade, for example. Since the high score is stored on the system and on Xbox Live, and tied to each individual account, they can go by that to determine who the score truly belongs to and if it's legit.
GBA/DS or any other easily hacked system, however, is another story altogether. But then again, the only real score anyone believes are the ones in the arcades, but even then, no one will believe that your name is really ASR.
My friend Cesar and I held the 1st place record for Time Crisis 2 at one of our local movie theatres a while back. When I went there with some different friends, they would NOT believe it was me. The name on it was LCB. Luis Blandon is my name, and Cesar Bustos is his. L for Luis, C for Cesar, B for Bustos and Blandon. Because it was one letter off (my middle name is Daniel) they took it with a grain of salt. But, that's fine. It's just a game. - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"[Games today] are all about killing, shooting, fighting and drugs."
Well, to paraphrase GTA: Vice City, old games come in three flavours:
* Defender of the Faith, where "you save the green dots with your fantastic flying red square!"
* Monkey's Paradise, where "you swing from green dot to green dot with your red square monkey!"
* Penetrator, where "you smash the green dots deep inside the mysterious red square!"
I'm turning thirty later this year and I still know that the games today are better, people claiming anything else are just being nostalgic. - intelsucks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"For the first time in 20 years, the Guinness Book of World Records will once again..."
WTF? - Theory557, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Haha, that's awsome.
- astatine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2And the record for "Quickest pwning in Starcraft by some Korean kid" is held by...
- xxshinwaxx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1boxer
- REXNFX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1They better put Geometry Wars on there. That is the ultimate high score game.
- RC2k6, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Like we really needed another reason to sit home and play video games all day.
- PackerX, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2My mother, 46, NOT autistic, has a high score of 1,197,xxx in Tetris DX. My highest is 1,084,xxx.
But good luck to you beating her in Tetris. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Pathetic that you Kanuck losers need to raise your ego that way. There are WAY TOO MANY Kanuck nerds on digg. Get lives--oh wait you guys live in kAnNOTeDuH which blowes ass. ^_^*~
