Great interveiw with everyone's favorite reviewer - Yahtzee!
blogs.theage.com.au — Australia's Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has rapidly become one of the world's most-loved game reviewers, his popularity evidenced by last week's chaotic scenes at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image.

- endersadvocate, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1obviously.
- LeonidasStokely, on 05/28/2008, -2/+13He's ours, Australia are just borrowing him.
- ghm101, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5I am an Aussie living in the UK, I consider myself Australian,
from that i guess that Mr Croshaw would consider himself English. - RetepNamenots, on 05/28/2008, -2/+5With all these positive replies, why is this guy getting buried?
- Dumbledorito, on 05/28/2008, -2/+52He is, but he lives in Australia.
- Elliottx, on 05/28/2008, -11/+58I love this guy...I really do.

- sucks, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4i like him too, but yahtzee thinks that there is something wrong with us
- desqjockey, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1Do I like him even though I dont really like games, or because I dont really like games?
- Bobaliki, on 05/28/2008, -3/+60Dugg for the answer to the last question (due to me being Australian)
- MrSpiffy, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2I agree, I really hope Yahtzee can push the agenda for us on the world stage, because we pay 50% more for games which come out sometimes months after, if at all. ROCK BAND IM LOOKING AT YOU.
At least if he airs his displeasure, it will be enough that people know about the situation.- Gizza, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1I wish we only paid 50% more. Many console games retail at $130 when new.
- Dracusis, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3It's more like 100% inflation.
The current exchange:
$1.92 USD = $2.00 AUD
but in Australia...
$60.00 USD Game = $120.00 AUD Game.
No matter how you crunch those numbers or fiddle with the import taxes, that's just ***** criminal. Thank christ I have a PS3 and can just import them from Play Asia. And Microsoft wonders why the PS3 is killing the 360 in sales over here...

- Chetyre, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1As much as I enjoyed those games, I had more fun playing AOT. Besides, I think that Chzo stuff is pretty wrapped up.

Triple ***** hooker.. - jimmick, on 05/28/2008, -7/+29I was at that ACMI thing, there was loads of room but they wouldn't let us in because we didn't have 'free' tickets.
It was worth the wait we hung out at the door for a couple of hours, whenever the door opened everyone was like "YEAHHHH YAHTZEE"
In the end some guy got his Wii signed and oh, Yahtzee is REALLY TALL
P.S We sung still alive and never gonna give you up- mendo, on 05/28/2008, -1/+18You sound really cool. . . lets have sex sometime ._.
- pHr34kY, on 05/28/2008, -1/+4Man, I was gonna go to that! I so should've! Oh well, he's coming back for seconds - I'll have to make the trip this time.
- DeadSkinMask, on 05/28/2008, -27/+7This guy owes a lot of his "fame" to Digg.
- Dundasbro, on 05/28/2008, -1/+20Actually, I would say that his skill in creating fast, informative and hilarious video game reviews would be what the majority of his fame comes from. Just an idea.
- DeadSkinMask, on 05/28/2008, -12/+2OK, I will rephrase that.
This guy owes a lot of his "exposure" to Digg.
Better?- theaceoffire, on 05/28/2008, -1/+7He got the Zero Punctuation gig by posting a couple of reviews on youtube.
^_^ So I guess you could say he owes it to youtube!

- EvilBlueDot, on 05/28/2008, -1/+0What? So you think Yahtzee should give a cookie to every digger that has dugg his digg-worthy critiques?
- Dundasbro, on 05/28/2008, -1/+20Actually, I would say that his skill in creating fast, informative and hilarious video game reviews would be what the majority of his fame comes from. Just an idea.

- TheConman, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8Nope, I find it makes his responses more realistic.
- dlite922, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1for FSM's sake No! i tried to read it normally but dang that voice is stuck and after a couple of sentences I was reading fast again with his voice in my head.

- GeneralCopper, on 05/28/2008, -2/+1It's the internet, not English class.
- OpCzar, on 05/28/2008, -4/+15Not many can imitate his style well, that's why he'll continue to be popular for some time to come. Here's a good example of a "poseur":
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/2223 ...
(Not a rickroll).- jascination, on 05/28/2008, -2/+2He sounds like a chipmunk...
- Babazoz, on 05/28/2008, -4/+7His "style?" As entertaining and as clever as Yahtzee can be, I'm afraid he's not the first person to record a voice track and then arrange images in a video editing program. In fact, it's been being done for a while now. What's really depressing is that if someone decides to do something similar, they'll be perceived as "ripping off Zero Punctuation", due to the fanboys and hangers-on who like to deride anything that might be similar to their current worship.
- mendo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4Ooouch
- BestJaxx, on 05/28/2008, -1/+5I actually didn't think of him as a Yahtzee ripoff. He doesn't seem to completely buy in to the way Yahtzee reviews and instead has sort of his own way of speaking. He may be Yahtzee-esque but I have seen far worse
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6XSpPIBvjN4
(It sounds like MUMBLING!) - ryan631, on 05/28/2008, -1/+0Good link. Yahtzee really takes ownership of the style he uses. That link to me sounded like someone that really had imitating a style at the front of his thinking rather than the message. Yahtzee's reviews to me, have content 1st delivered in his unique method.
I doubt he's the 1st one to do a review that style, however Yahtzee really takes it and makes it his own.

- somedirtbag, on 05/28/2008, -2/+4Whenever I read blocks of text, I hear Shatner, Yahtzee, Connery, or Walken. Sometimes all four in one paragraph... definitely makes things interesting...
- flxfxp, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3lol, i thought i was the only one :D
- antdude, on 05/28/2008, -1/+21Nice typo in the title.
- NathanielJ, on 05/28/2008, -0/+8Sadly, that's about 2 fewer typos than the average front page Digg article has.
- abrasion, on 05/28/2008, -1/+71As an Australian, I'm very surprised he went so easy on foreign publishers / developers etc (or the local ones here gouging us, whoever the ***** it is)
Our dollar is worth 95c US - so a 60$ game should be 65$ AUD here, but let's be generous and assume shipping, handling, support and the fact we're a smaller market - so let's say 75$ US isn't unreasonable for us to pay for a game here, so do we pay 75$ US? no we pay about 95$ US for new releases.
Mass Effect is 105$ US ! here at the moment :/
Furthermore we get ass plowed by the whole region coding thing and region delays.
I had to wait an extra week to play Pixel Junk Monsters Encore a few weeks ago, Americans were enjoying it but was I? No.
Jesus christ it's 2008 people TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHT - you're all reading this post on the internet, times have changed! these moron publishers think we're not connected or something.
The internet has changed everything, I can speak with you Americans (hi!) right now, in real time on the internet, I can view reviews of games within hours of release, I can steal them if I'm so inclined.
It's a global economy now, if you have to translate a game, ok fine - delay it but for goodness sakes, english speaking games for Europe, AU and the US should come out at the same goddamned time - ESPECIALLY downloadable games like Pixel Junk - there's not even distribution / publishing issues or packaging issues.
Oh and while I'm having a goddamned sook, Valve are awesome, what with me getting orange box at the same time as all you Americans - bravo Valve, however a MASSIVE boo to the people who made COD4 and (IIRC) Ubisoft who have pulled several games from Steam at 40$ US and re-put them up for Aussie steam accounts at 80 / 90 / 100$ AUD instead :/ (tied to IP address or credit card address, if I recall)
LAME!- jpjandrade, on 05/28/2008, -0/+15Dude, I live in Brazil. GTA IV costs about US$147 here. And the wages here are much worse, so it's actually more expensive than that, relative to the average's person income.
Thanks god for eBay.- abrasion, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I hear Brazil has it real bad :( even worse than us - it's crap.
- tyywebb, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2That's insane.
- N00F, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2I would imagine that Australians order over seas for their games? Is this correct?
- abrasion, on 05/28/2008, -1/+3It's inconvienient to purchase overseas, I guess more Aussies buy from overseas than Americans do but it's still convienient to just go to a store >:(
Also - region coding, ***** the 360, thank jebus for the PS3.
- abrasion, on 05/28/2008, -1/+3It's inconvienient to purchase overseas, I guess more Aussies buy from overseas than Americans do but it's still convienient to just go to a store >:(
- dagnabbit, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2The $AU is .95c on the American dollar now? Damn, just a few years ago it was like .65c
- abrasion, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3Actually it's 96 and I recall it being 54 or so.
The Americans STILL get products stupidly cheap over there, I could import things from my buddy in Boston - when it was 54c and it was still cheaper than buying here because no matter what you guys have ridiculous deals like 300gb drive 15$ AR and insane stuff, we just don't get that here.
- abrasion, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3Actually it's 96 and I recall it being 54 or so.
- polish97, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5The reason why they cost so much, comes from Australia's import tax on goods under $1000. Look it up...
The government is adding $10 to your games and such.- Vindexus, on 05/28/2008, -2/+1I don't want to look it up.
- EvilBlueDot, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Hi to you to!
- jpjandrade, on 05/28/2008, -0/+15Dude, I live in Brazil. GTA IV costs about US$147 here. And the wages here are much worse, so it's actually more expensive than that, relative to the average's person income.
- kevyn, on 05/28/2008, -4/+1the mans a legend
- jordanlgta, on 05/28/2008, -5/+4I guess that saying his reviews are getting unentertaining would get me dugg down, right? Oh well. Here it goes. His reviews are not that funny anymore. There comes a point when talking fast just becomes talking fast...
- BlackholeStorm, on 05/28/2008, -2/+3You were right, you are getting dugg down. Anyway, the talking fast isn't the only thing that's funny about his reviews, I mean, he comes up with some lines that are ridiculously witty and entertaining to listen to.
- cquinnd, on 05/29/2008, -0/+1His reviews are as good as they ever were, the issue is that now there are enough online to actually disern his style of critiquing them the novelty of the fast talking wears off and you have to appreciate them more for the verbal acuity and use of non-sequitors.
- Supersonic1980, on 05/28/2008, -4/+23i hate to be picky but he isnt Australian,he is British!
- SyntaxErr0r, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Same thing, Austrailia's population was formed from Britain's overcrowded prisons.
- SirVantes, on 05/29/2008, -1/+2Australia's population was largely killed off by British settlers, then it's current population was largely made up of European and Asian immigrants. The U.S population is probably just as much, if not more so, made up of British-descendants.
- SyntaxErr0r, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Same thing, Austrailia's population was formed from Britain's overcrowded prisons.

- KezG, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1Todays episode is up now...
- TheEclipse, on 05/28/2008, -14/+5Digg me down now.
I understand that some people like him simply because he’s a British citizen living in Australia. That’s some weak ***** folks. Why the nationalism? Did you meet up at a national rally and write some jokes with him? He’s not your friend. So why take pride in someone that has nothing to do with you? And if you are going to take pride in that, then at least pick a real comedian that rocks audiences in the UK and Australia; Jim Jeffries comes to mind.
But if you really do want to be nationalistic about the whole thing, then consider this: When he talks, he sounds like he’s choking on a dick. Not in that Louis Armstrong talking-with-your-glottis-in-a-cool-soulful-way sort of singing. I mean choking on a dick-and being smug about it. Yeah yeah, I get it, he does it really fast. A rapid-fire blowjob blather is sad, not funny.
Comedy is subjective, I don’t deny that. So I judge this guy to be an unfunny failure. His material is PAINFUL to watch. Croshaw relies on the same gimmick that Robin Williams limps on: he delivers lousy jokes so quickly and absurdly that you’re coerced into laughing. Instead of flailing his arms around and doing wacky voices, he uses animations. Doesn’t make him funny. It’s as bad as listening to Carrot Top plea “Come on!” when a joke bombs.
“But that’s it! It’s just a gimmick! Get off your high horse!” Fine, then why should anyone expect a ***** comedian with a tacky stage name and a fake personality to thoughtfully review a game?- Vindexus, on 05/28/2008, -1/+3holy ***** i'm not reading all that
- lowspeedchase, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1I don't want to dig you down I just want to call you a *****. *****.
- EvilBlueDot, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1What? Did he have sex with your Mum?
- Krillin, on 05/28/2008, -6/+2anyone else reading his responses with the same accent/speed as him?
- introitus, on 05/28/2008, -5/+4Interview yes. Great? No.
- boogershark, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3I would love to hear an audio interview with Yahtzee, to hear how he normally talks. While reading I kept trying to read as fast as he normally does his reviews and my feeble mind could nnot keep up!
- Scoresheet, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2He's English, living in australia. not australian.
- coolguyslim, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1He is such a great reviewer. Love 'em.
- gamben0, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1Buried for inaccurate title. Should say 'least favorite reviewer'.
- HolmWrecker, on 05/29/2008, -2/+1The first few times I listened to this guy I actually liked him. After hearing the same old ***** with different words I've come to the conclusion that he's nothing but a ***** wuss-bitch. All he does is piss and moan and complain. I had friends like that...key word, HAD.
I shoulda' known; I've never met a ur-a-peon I really liked. - Skewt, on 05/30/2008, -1/+0"great interview" may be a bit of a stretch. "Interview" sums it up better.
- M724, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1I have a lot of respect for this guy, and zero respect for those who hate him.
