- bullcutter, on 05/06/2008, -1/+63Negative controversy = bitter people without real jobs.
This game is like porn. If you don't like it, don't watch it, dummy. Its not going to disappear either way.
If your kids are too young or otherwise weak-minded to understand the difference between fiction and reality, or if you simply don't want them being exposed to "R-rated" material, DON'T LET THEM PLAY THE GAME.
The solution is so simple it hurts. - deathsquadx, on 05/06/2008, -2/+53uhhhh...PACman...WTF is packman?
- valejo, on 05/06/2008, -2/+48This has been Rockstar's strategy since the very beginning of the franchise: use controversy as marketing: Step 1-piss people off; Step 2-let the media cover angry people; Step 3-more people buy GTA to see what the deal is! In other words, any press is good press for this video game.
- Shakermaker, on 05/06/2008, -0/+39I love how Jack Thompson says the video game is "the gravest assault upon children in this country since polio" yet kids aren't allowed to purchase it.
I mean there may be kids playing it, obviously, but the game was designed and targeted towards adults, not children. If you let your kids play it, you're a ***** parent, but it's not RockStar's fault.
It's like saying any movies that are rated "R" should be banned because they're bad for kids. - Zippo, on 05/06/2008, -0/+39Guess what guys: It's rated M... as in "17 or older".
Hey parents, it's time to do that thing... what's it called again? Oh right, PARENTING. - lektroluv, on 05/06/2008, -0/+38Driving drunk in GTA IV is horrible. Gives me a headache.
After playing it, I would never drive drunk in real life. - xaeon, on 05/06/2008, -1/+32It's a game where you have to place items of clothing into a suitcase. Very strange.
- freedomwv, on 05/06/2008, -1/+30I am really really sick of these people who rather than actually raise their kids they instead blame everything and everyone for their failures as parents.
- DaleoftheUK, on 05/06/2008, -0/+28Iron man thumbnail?
- orenshk, on 05/06/2008, -1/+27You want to talk violence? let's look at the Old Testament shall we?
1. Killing every first born in every house not marked with goats blood
2. Killing every man woman and child in Jericho
3. Killing 40 Philistines with a donkey jaw bone
4. Killing a fat king by shoving a sword up his belly to the hilt and twisting (vivid description)
The list is much longer than this of course, but I think my point it made. Someone should make a violent biblical video game and see what happens. - mattampd, on 05/06/2008, -13/+37dumb if you ask me. i grew up on packman and i dont go around eating crap.
- inactive, on 05/06/2008, -0/+22negative controversy is still good controversy :)
- sanosuke001, on 05/06/2008, -0/+18and the first time it happens, the game advises you get a taxi. ***** hell, it's telling you to be responsible.
but ya, gave me a headache after a few minutes... - quadvods, on 05/06/2008, -0/+17Its clear GTA4 has a fundimental storyline issue... he keeps harping on about money, when there is nothing to spend it on.
Previous GTAs actually had purpose (buying safehouses across the city and building your empire) - GTA 4 seems to have literally nothing to offer. Its a motivation killer in terms of doing the storyline missions.
I'm not going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on just guns, and the most expensive clothing item is a $1000 suit.
Would be really interested to know what is going on... - thebloodvayne, on 05/06/2008, -0/+14Banning is unnecessary and won't solve anything. Parents should learn to control their kids, and Jack Thompson + company should shut the ***** up.
- Anonchrist, on 05/06/2008, -0/+13People need to stop having more children than they can responsibly nurture.
- sk1ll2, on 05/06/2008, -0/+12or use the subway. i was playing last night and managed to push some guy onto the subway tracks, then the train came and crushed him. i chuckled and realized how sophomoric this game is.
- fr3ddie, on 05/06/2008, -0/+12"Florida attorney Jack Thompson, who called "GTA IV" "the gravest assault upon children in this country since polio."
then dont ***** buy them the god damn game.... how the ***** do children acquire video games? like, maybe they just find them laying in the street?? - DeathJux, on 05/06/2008, -2/+13Strange, yes, though surprisingly arousing and erotic.
- xaeon, on 05/06/2008, -1/+12If the people who are against Grand Theft Auto had any sense, they'd just shut the crap up and make it look as if the new GTA wasn't anything special; rather than sounding off like it's the most vile disgusting violent filth since sliced bread (Stange analogy, I know, but I hate pre-sliced bread). All that's going to do is make more people buy it. Some people never learn.
- tuxidomasx, on 05/06/2008, -0/+11use a taxi, or call up Roman for a free ride
- inactive, on 05/06/2008, -0/+10The nerd hat isn't as bad as the douchebag hat, which is what you appear to be wearing now.
- ericrous, on 05/06/2008, -0/+10I like to think of it as a girlfriend simulator. Your GF constantly calls you at bad times, sulks when you ignore her, expects you to have an expensive car and clothing, and only puts out if you take her on a bunch of expensive dates.
What better way to train our young men in what to expect out of women for the REST OF THEIR ***** LIVES? - macbookcoard, on 05/06/2008, -3/+12Ha. Read the part about the "Bourne" game and wondered, "Has anyone ever cared what Matt Damon says?"
- thenothingman, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8In other news Mario has been shown to increase mushroom consumption amongst gamers . . . there has also been a sharp rise in incidents of turtles being stomped to death 0_0
- colin8651, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8I have always wondered if most of these people even have children. I can see the majority of these people sitting at home in front of a computer or TV with a note pad, trying to find who to go after next. The only company they have is a cat.
- Glitchwerks, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8Well, Manhunt was a terrible game. Most gamers avoided it entirely.
- inactive, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8All politicians should have realized by now that attacking GTA (or any videogame with a huge fanbase) is just another way to not be appealing to younger voters.
- positron, on 05/06/2008, -2/+9You've never played any other GTA game before, have you?
- LuCiFer6, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7I agree with this paragraph from that story..
Most young gamers, they write, "had incorporated their parents' fundamental values into their lives" and realized that "these games were entertaining but outrageous fantasies." Other factors — violence or abuse in the home, treatable mental health problems, even access to real weapons — are far more likely to result in children behaving violently, they say.
Basically if your parents raised you right then more than kids can handle these game. But then again if the parents are ***** up in the head or are not paying attention to things their kids are doing then they'll end up shooting up schools and malls.
It begins and ends with the parents... - atarijedi, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6Some parents need to stop parenting by proxy through the government.
- GeekyGerge, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6I've started playing real life as a form of escapism.
- inactive, on 05/06/2008, -1/+7If you were less of a tool bag, Brucie would like you enough to fly you around.
- Markpdotcom, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6I haven't... do they exist here in the UK?
- bullcutter, on 05/06/2008, -1/+7but you might enjoy trippy flashing lights, eating pills and fruit
- REBrill, on 05/06/2008, -1/+6I have to disagree with MADD.
I played GTA, got drunk. The game advises you not to drive, but being part of the criminal underground, I drove anyways. Less then a block I crashed into another car and automatically received a star, with no cops around. You can't get away easily while drunk and was busted.
They did a good job showing the consciences of drunk driving while keeping the game fun. - Licurgo, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5shhh... you are ruining everything¡
- natastna2, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5Yeah, one of my best friends was killed in a plane crash. I've been calling for Microsoft Flight Simulator to be banned for years.
- BN2L, on 05/06/2008, -1/+6You are an insignificant minority.
- AntBing, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4No, negative controversy is still negative controversy. It is, however, great free advertising and a market awareness raising tool.
- thecosmicpope, on 05/06/2008, -3/+7MADD? Mothers Against Drunk Driving? Are other people not allowed to be Against Drunk Driving?
- Anonchrist, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4I find all of my items either laying in the street or discarded by dead enemies... Hmmm... How much Exp. do you think Thomas is worth? It would be ironic to have his lawyer say that I was only pretending to be mind-controlled by video games.
- jezsik, on 05/06/2008, -1/+5Why is there an Iron Man photo linked to this story?
- Glitchwerks, on 05/06/2008, -1/+5Very true, but after working in a game store, most parents simply don't care what material their children have access to. Even when warned that when games have material completely unsuitable, 90% of them bought it anyway.
- OwdenBowden, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4Sorry but I am now forced into blaming Video Games and The Bugs Bunny Cartoons I grew up on as the root cause of all the problems in the world today (as long as there are deep pockets to hit)...
On a serious note. I love Bugs Bunny and other cartoons (pre PC edits) and I miss them in their entirety thanks to the PC / censoring Ted Turner and the rest of these tight asses Mother F%$kers... I also have noticed that it is only recently that some of the worlds children have taken to acting out events in real life that they have viewed on while Playing/Watching Virtual video game / Movies / cartoons. What happened in such a short time frame that these kids are not acting out and not feeling remorseful?
My answer is that we have created a society where we do everything "For the Children". We talk to them as if they are adults. We give them "Time-Outs" instead of discipline. Everything they do is structured. There is never a consequence for any action, and most importantly All sporting events / competitions are setup so that "Everyone wins" - thus no competition. We are creating a system where everyone blames everyone else and not one person takes responsibility for their actions. Hence the people crying out against GTA and the like. Well I say ***** THEM.
It is an IMAGINARY GAME.
It is NOT REAL.
You need to - WAKE UP. - Anonchrist, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4Try buildings, they will get you dugg down faster.
- thenothingman, on 05/06/2008, -1/+5if it were fathers, the movement would probably just be a FADD
- NathanielJ, on 05/06/2008, -3/+7The really amazing thing is it seems like you've never heard of MADD before...
- surKaz, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4Played a bit of Manhunt, the first one, Never finished it.... And I agree, media didn't kill it, hell, if it wasn't for media it wasn't going to be that big anyway..
the game was Ok, slighly boring.... that's all but nowadays, that isn't enough. - Bean945, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3That's because the majority of parents know that their teenage children will know that the game isn't a representation of real life and it's only a few people on their high horses out to cause a fuss.
