- Stuart750, on 04/17/2008, -7/+49Did anyone else find that Vice city (I know this article is on GTA3) was better than San Andreas?
- purplehaze420, on 04/17/2008, -2/+33For me it was... But mainly because I LOVED the soundtrack :)
- Accolade1, on 04/17/2008, -2/+33In city and era vibes, yes. Content? Definitely not.
- PinkFloydFan, on 04/17/2008, -6/+24Grand Theft Auto invented a completely new genre from the moment when GTA 1 was released. The freedom of an entire city realized with any vehicle at your disposal is something we all dreamed about since we were young. I'm still waiting for a game where every room in every building in an entire city is traversable & unique.
GTA IV will rock, and I've already paid for it.
@ Stuart, I personally felt that San Andreas was a better game, but they were definitely both respectable.
Hot Coffee anyone? http://digg.com/comedy/Sexy_comic_SFW_PIC - Angelix, on 04/17/2008, -1/+17GTA3 is one of my favourite games. Now counting the days to get a copy of GTA4.
- clink0914, on 04/17/2008, -0/+11Sell your body.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/17/2008, -0/+10GTA3 was indeed revolutionary, but I don't think it saved the industry from a complete collapse.
- offspring06, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9I remember playing GTA 1 on the PC and thought it was the greatest game ever. There was nothing like it at the time.
- darkism, on 04/17/2008, -0/+9Dugg for burgle.
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -3/+11Very detailed article on the impact of GTA3 to the whole gaming arena.
- insertAliasHere, on 04/17/2008, -1/+9If that is your real life, I'm glad you're not my neighbor.
- requiem3, on 04/17/2008, -2/+10Collapse on itself? Wtf are you talking about? Yes GTA3 was an amazing game that was revolutionary. No it did not save gaming.
- verkon, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8You're dead to me...
- Kidtuf, on 04/17/2008, -0/+8Gouranga!!!
- Acglaphotis, on 04/17/2008, -1/+6Or you could, you know, go outside?
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 04/17/2008, -2/+6I thought I knew what games were until I played GTA 3.. I played 1 and 2 and had a blast with them.. But once 3 game out, it changed everything.. Now with the latest coming out with internet multiplayer, its going to be the best game of the year..
- CarzorStelatis, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Good article, except for the bit where they say that Halo 3 is a mature game for over-30s.
- mookieXL, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Both are now freeware: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/
- sensor, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4What collapse. The game industry has been growing every year.
- endlessoul, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4I agree with Accolade. I love Vice City and San Andreas, don't get me wrong. But in terms of sheer things to do, San Andreas barely beats Vice City. VC had the colors and sound, SA had the sound and stuff to do.
- purplehaze420, on 04/17/2008, -2/+6Diehard GTA fan since GTA1... And I've prettymuch bought all my console's as a result since GTA3 came out. PS2 for GTA3 and vice city, bought a PSP to play liberty city, and now probably buying a PS3 for IV.... If it weren't for those game's being much more fun on a console I would stick to PC
- IncogMosqui, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3I was expecting this article to be more about the headline claiming that the industry was on the verge of collapse. Sadly, it wasn't. I'd love to read an article like that.
- GreatDrok, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Years before GTA came out I was lamenting the fact that many games provided play areas that looked more fun than they were due to it all just being scenery. I wanted a game where I could just be bad and it would be like a real world. If I wanted to break into someone's house and murder them for a laugh, I could do it. Even in GTAIII you still can't just walk into every building there is, only some spaces are available but it was still a revelation.
One day though, a game will come along that is truly free and you can just do what you want. Meanwhile, I guess real life will have to do until there is something better. Better than life..... Ah, Red Dwarf, why have you been off our screens for so long now???? - WolfeatingRaven, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3yeah a good read and a great series (excluding the last one), but its a bit much to claim it influenced mario galaxy, i mean if i'm not mistaken mario64 was where the mario games changed dramatically. Also halo's not a game for over 30's, its filled with annoying 12 years old.
- o0joshua0o, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3You have to give respect to any game that defines a whole genre.
- dsmx, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3I always felt that Vice City was pretty much the perfect GTA. Everything was there for a reason, you want to almost every place as part of a mission and there wasn't any dead space. The plot was entertaining and the soundtrack is still the best in any game yet released. GTA3 while good was a little rough around the edges and SA was big for big sake not because it needed to be that big.
- feliks2, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Its been a while since ive played wither, but it seems to me like VC was little different from GTA3, while San Andreas offered far more diversity and options than either of the previous ones. More so than VC did after GTA4.
- Dylson, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Go on....
- kinseyincanada, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2I remember way back when GTA3 was announced all i saw was a very small write up maybe a few sentences and a couple of screenshots. I always liked the old GTA top-down games and when i saw they were going 3D i was ecstatic i knew this game was going to be huge and everything i wanted. Then the months passed and it rose from a small write to be being front page cover and one of the most hyped games ever.
- jsin1276, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2I wouldn't go far as to say that the gaming universe was bout to collapse on itself.
- makkaveli19, on 04/17/2008, -1/+3lots of people buy it because of the already familiar controller.
- Ndiggnation, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Especially if you got Glide going and had that 2.5D thing going on where the buildings going by were in 3D. Fun times..
- HolyChimp, on 04/18/2008, -2/+4I LOLd at the San Andreas characters not being colorful... Am I a bad person?
- MasterGrief, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2I love it too, but... If you think this is real life, just... I dunno man, you probably shouldn't tell anyone about it though.

Not sure if its songs or radio stations or what.. i assume you can still play your own playlist from the Xbox Guide.. - sbassin, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I got away from gaming but as soon as I played Vice City on a friend's PS2 I had to buy the console and own the game myself.
- DeadlyCouncil, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1Sweet, thanks mookie

- OrangeTide, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1not as an interesting read as the title would have us believe.
- prefan21, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Grand Theft Lego's Odyssey
- gbro, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I want GTA4 to be able to stream internet radio. Cruising along while listening to Funktrust would be awesome.
- rjc5056, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1They're already developing it with "Crimecraft." While the concept arouses my interest, for sure, that particular game looks like it's going to be a pile of GTA clone stillbirths mixed with WOW currency and leveling design. Also, the characters look like rejects from Jet Set Radio Future.
Here's a link with pics: http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12515/CrimeCraft-Ann ... - FFXIfrohike, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I remember seeing GTA3 and thinking it was like GTA meets Shenmue, and I couldn't think of a better combination. Glad they didn't carry any QTEs into it ;-)
- BearinG, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I loved how big SA was.. flying planes from city to city and jumping off when you get there.. i just liked all the different settings, with the hillbillies and then to another city.. you know, the little transitions..
- inactive, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2exactly how i feel. we should make love
- melat0nin, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I live about ten minutes from Rockstar North's offices and I've gotta say, there aint no blowing that I'm aware of.
