- Rioracer916, on 04/29/2008, -2/+132I honestly don't care which company benefits. I bought the Xbox 360 version because I have an Xbox 360. This is a win-win situation for gamers, let's not try to over-think it too much.
- deltron, on 04/29/2008, -6/+92That's easy - We who own it benefit most.
- killbert24, on 04/29/2008, -3/+68In Liberty City, everyone wins.
- rwallen, on 04/29/2008, -5/+58Wii owners win because, oh wait...
- crowbar77, on 04/29/2008, -8/+56Do we still need to put the $ symbol every time Microsoft is mentioned. Every company is out to make money, we don't call it Nabi$co do we?
- SwedishNinja, on 04/29/2008, -3/+35Appl€
- EchoAlpha, on 04/29/2008, -1/+32How about $on¥, Nint€ndo, App£€.
- TypeEE, on 04/29/2008, -3/+32I know Wii benefits the least from Grand Theft Auto IV. Digg me down if I were wrong.
- Jsmuli2, on 04/29/2008, -14/+40I'll be buying a PS3 this summer (or sooner) and GTA4 will be my first purchase for it.
- kettlehead, on 04/29/2008, -6/+31As an owner of all 3 consoles and a gaming PC, and I gotta say that this is a rental for me until I'm sure whether or not it's coming out for the PC. From my first impression of the revamped combat, it looks like it'd be soooooo much better with a mouse.
If not, I'll probably get it for the ps3 due to less texture pop-in. pop-in pisses me off. - silverbulletky, on 04/29/2008, -0/+21Halo is a system seller because it is only on one system. GTA4 is not a system seller because you can get it on both. I have a 360 and do not have a PS3, so I'm not going to buy a PS3 for GTA4. I would buy a PS3 for Metal Gear or Final Fantasy. Those two are system sellers.
- lukasmack, on 04/29/2008, -0/+21"360 owners had the Halo 3 launch as their reason to buy boxes, and we saw a 38% increase in console sales in the four months following the launch of that game. I think we are likely to see the same phenomenon with the PS3 following the GTA launch,"
The four months after the release of Halo 3 happened to include Christmas. Just pointing out a phenomenon of Christmas sales increases is unlikely to happen in April. - daridave, on 04/29/2008, -6/+26Personally, all I see different is the controller. Oh, well. Xbox 360 wins my vote.
- theprez, on 04/29/2008, -2/+22Actually the conclusion is: "Since we're dealing with something greater than just software sold numbers, the question of who gains the most from Grand Theft Auto IV will not be definitively answered for a long time yet."
So the article title asks a question and doesn't answer it. Great. - Vassili84, on 04/29/2008, -1/+20$ony
- Beatmiser, on 04/29/2008, -14/+32I think this is going to be one of the first times I use my PS3 for more than a Bluray player. I have a few PS3 games but I haven't spent much time with them. This is really going to make the system worth what I've payed. So as far as I'm concerned, Sony wins this round. Not having to pay extra just to play online is a huge bonus.
- noots, on 04/29/2008, -6/+22for me, his quote is truth. I bought a ps3 + gta bundle, that arrived today.
- Halaster, on 04/29/2008, -1/+16Now now, lets be honest here. :) Both consoles are having the freezing issue. Rockstar has even responded saying it is occurring on SOME 60GB PS3 consoles, and on Xbox 360 consoles. They are not yet sure what is causing the problem on either console so no fix is being made yet.
http://kotaku.com/385183/rockstar-support-no-gta-f ...
I am running a 60GB launch console and not seeing this problem, though I have upgraded my HDD to 160GB. - CaptainMogran, on 04/29/2008, -1/+16IBM wins. For every game. For every console...
- bigbadgoat, on 04/29/2008, -2/+15less loading? If there's any point in time where you notice loading on the 360 it's more than the PS3. After the game loads initially, I haven't seen any load at all, really.
- Beatmiser, on 04/29/2008, -6/+18No, the big bonus, as I said, is the fact that I don't have to pay for online play. Now, add in the Bluray, lack of RROD's on PS3s and I say Hooyay!
- exomni, on 04/29/2008, -0/+12Whoa. I haven't seen that name for a few months now. You do realize that's been dead for a while now, right? Move on.
- pell, on 04/29/2008, -4/+16+1
- exomni, on 04/29/2008, -17/+29lol @ "Sony reinforcing that GTA IV is a strong PlayStation franchise"
So they have essentially nothing, then.
Hmm, game content, empty PR spin, game content, empty PR spin, game content, empty PR spin... this is such a hard decision! - skidooer, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11Unless the game is available for OS X, or Linux, wouldn't that still leave Microsoft as the winner?
- quamsta, on 04/29/2008, -10/+21This is taking it a bit far. Who cares? Just play the ***** game and be happy.
- thatsmyaibo, on 04/29/2008, -3/+13Actually both consoles had delay for different reasons. Wasn't there an interview posted recently on digg about this? I think he said the graphics were slightly better for the PS3 because of its rendering but in the end they tried to make the game identical.
- inactive, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11The Walmart I went to split us into two lines when it came time to start selling, one for the PS3 and one for the 360.
Both lines seemed about even. - bdawg123, on 04/29/2008, -2/+12360 is having the same issue - http://kotaku.com/385183/rockstar-support-no-gta-f ...
FTA - "He also said that the Xbox 360 is having the exact same problem" - SSCrow, on 04/29/2008, -4/+14How long was the install?
- tehreflex, on 04/29/2008, -2/+11I got this for my PS3 on a midnight sale, I love it. Who cares who wins, both systems have their benefits. As long as us gamers have fun, it's all good!
- cthellis, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10When people tell you their salary, it pretty much means they DO want to buy some friends.
- Shakermaker, on 04/29/2008, -3/+12I am SO ***** sick of every GTA4 (or video console) thread always coming down to a comparison between Sony and MS.
I got an Xbox 360 - I love it. Before that I had a PS2 and loved it. I'll probably be getting a PS3 at some point - even if it's just for Blu-Ray movies (and MGS4). Bopth companies have great products that have pros and cons.
Can everything NOT get reduced to a fanboy pissing contest!? - kettlehead, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9Doesn't always work. Game developers have to specifically program the mouse support into the title. The only one I know of to date that actually did this was UT. I'd totally defect if the PS3 had unilateral mouse support on all FPS and similar titles, but it's just not there yet. A lot of developers just don't cash in on the opportunity.
- cyrix, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10Wow. You've sure impressed me by telling me your yearly salary. Want to be my friend?
- sugarazor, on 04/29/2008, -6/+15I don't think anyone enjoys paying for online play but they enjoy the excellent service that Xbox Live provides such as cross-game invites and cross-game voice chat.
- robEstyles, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8As an 360 owner I actually completely agree with with it benefiting Sony more. Xbox already has a alot of system-selling titles Sony really doesn't. This and some exclusives (GT,MGS,FF) might actually start the PS3 with some sort of head of steam.
- Schmich, on 04/29/2008, -3/+11Gonna buy the PS3 because of GTA4 and Gran Turismo so some truth lies within the buried comment..
- ExSlashdotter, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8Actually, thats not really true. A 'system seller' is a game that people want so bad, they'll buy the system just to play it. When the same game comes out for multiple systems, said game is only a 'system seller' if the person doesn't own *any* of the consoles its released on. Think about it: if I own a 360, and I *have* to have GTA4, is that going to push me over the edge to buy a PS3? Probably not. How about PS3 exclusive games (such as MGS)? Probably so.
I imagine many of the people buying a copy one either a 360 or PS3 already, and they're going to buy their respective copies. Those people will outweigh the GTA purchasers who don't already own a system. - Evolutuon, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8But they sold so many ... !
- TypeEE, on 04/29/2008, -1/+83 consoles and a PC, do you have time to even brush your teeth?
- Topher06, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8The Wii couldn't even handle the GT4 title let alone the actual game..
- mooninite, on 04/29/2008, -4/+11Blu-ray does not read slower. Read up on your Blu-ray throughput.
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=6060 - inactive, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8Gamer Score does matter to some people. Even people who arnt point whores still like to have that score go up as they unlock things.
I do like the 360 controller a lot better myself. - r1y23, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8Actually people pay for Xbox live anyway even without owning GTA IV and also I dont think too many more people are going to be signing up for Xbox Live just because of GTA IV, so I dont really think Microsoft is gonna make that much more.
- darkism, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Burn it on better media.
- shredswithpiks, on 04/29/2008, -2/+9This seems to be typical of most articles I've read in the past few years. Anytime there's a question like this the writer takes the middle of the road approach and, after writing an entire article on the subject, doesn't really accomplish anything.
- thatsmyaibo, on 04/29/2008, -2/+9I agree. To each their own. I bought the PS3 version because I want to build my library. If I felt like the online was more intuitive I would have got the 360 version. It's exclusives that really matter for a console and Metal Gear and Gears of War will benefit the hardware more than anything.
- nailPuppy, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8C'mon man. It was cool in 1998, it must still be cool now, right?
- mobislink, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6People who disclose their annual salary usually add 50% to the actual number.
