- MythicaL, on 05/01/2008, -1/+135From reading the title, I thought the game was rated a 6.24%.
- afx1, on 05/01/2008, -0/+96i did that too then i picked up the controller and resumed the game
- jayinsac, on 05/01/2008, -0/+87I have played for 5 hours and only completed 1 mission. I am having too much fun driving around ***** with people and the cops
- Scopitone, on 05/01/2008, -2/+56"Kids, try getting actually drunk, " My word! Is this man from the reputable publication of Time magazine advocating that minors intentionally drink themselves into a stupor and get behind the wheel?! Context be damned! This scandal needs to be exposed. Alert the media! I want his job!
- samury, on 05/01/2008, -0/+52You, me and everyone else. First thing I did after the cut scene is punch someone in the face.
- ostracize, on 05/01/2008, -1/+51"try getting actually drunk, then driving drunk in the game, and see what happens."
Ooooo...gotta try that one! - Mullinsmcd, on 05/01/2008, -3/+45Thats absolutely the worst review out of all of them. Time is definitely just trying to jump on the wave and drive web traffic. If you have read any of the other reviews you have seen on digg, this will not change your opinion of the game at all. Don't bother reading it.
- rmxz, on 05/01/2008, -2/+37Happened at an organized anti-drunk-driving awareness event before. The guys running the event had a driving simulator and called for a sober volunteer and a volunteer who was supposed to keep drinking until he crashed. Unfortunately some frat knew this was going to happen and bought the game and practiced the heck out of it drunk; and sure enough one of them got picked. IIRC, the drunk was still playing the video game better than the sober novice well beyond the legal drunk driving limit.
- killbert24, on 05/01/2008, -3/+31Hmm... it doesn't seem like this person likes the game that much, except for the multiplayer.
- techAU, on 10/23/2008, -4/+29My 14% (10 hours in) review.. great addictive game, let down somewhat by graphics, single player was beginning to become repetitive so I jumped into some multi-player action last night.. freakin amazing.. loved the absolute mayhem.
- ryansmith18, on 05/01/2008, -4/+25Best quote ever:
" I wasted my life in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas pretending to work out; now I'm wasting my life in GTA: IV pretending to surf the web.
" - ijustfloat, on 05/01/2008, -5/+25I clicked on the link thinking that I was going to be taken to a detailed, scathing review from Time Magazine giving it a 6.24% out of 100%.
Instead, I found a person who played 20 hours worth of a game and thought it was enough experience to write a review for.
I agree with Mullins... this review is obviously Time magazine trying to jump on the GTA4 bandwagon.
Lame and buried as such. - toekneebullard, on 05/01/2008, -0/+20That's a VERY detailed rating scale.
- iet2004, on 05/01/2008, -0/+19Mission Complete
- hektur, on 05/01/2008, -0/+18*****! There's missions‽
- freakydingo, on 05/01/2008, -0/+16Same here, that ALWAYS happens when I play any of the GTA games. Too much fun stuff to do! I never get around to what I'm supposed to be doing.
- kublerross, on 05/01/2008, -0/+16your reading comprehension is impeccable
- chaosium, on 05/01/2008, -0/+16Because he's claiming that his 360 was mistakenly fitted with a high-power laser capable of burning through plastic.
- Rev0lver, on 05/01/2008, -1/+16Driving is easy to get used to. Mid mission checkpoints? The missions are like 10 minutes long. If you're dying that often, then you need to rethink your strategies. Co-op would be nice, though.
- ULJarad, on 05/01/2008, -0/+14The more I play it the more I'm enjoying myself. It's true: the starting area vehicle's controls suck, but once you reach out you'll find some impressive cars that the physics engine compliments very nicely. As far as graphics go... graphics are there to make what you're seeing more believable, and Liberty City is the most believable city ever created by far.
- inactive, on 05/01/2008, -3/+16GTA IV purchase = 50% of 2nd quarter U.S. GDP growth.
- KloroFormd, on 05/01/2008, -2/+15Bad driving controls? I've put about 5 hours in the game and can already squeeze my car between oncoming traffic on the highway while going "motion-blurred and objects-appear-much-farther-away" MPH, and not damage my car when I take the sharp on-ramp the wrong direction. I prefer the feel in this game to the previous games. There's no more incredibly unrealistic max speed to stopped in 1.5 seconds.
- aaronandwine, on 05/01/2008, -1/+13Both of them?
- PhrosTT, on 05/01/2008, -0/+11sweet icon
- ZephyrNinety, on 05/01/2008, -10/+20Why does the 360 have a disc tray? It should just have GTA 4 on the hard drive and nothing else.
- 1gunners4, on 05/01/2008, -2/+12And to add insult to injury, you are being dugg down.
- Dracusis, on 05/01/2008, -0/+9The sober people hit by the drunken ***** trying to take the corners too fast?
- form3hide, on 05/01/2008, -0/+9I'm still torn. Perhaps another review?
Ok, I'm kidding. - LoveYouSomeEric, on 05/01/2008, -0/+9WOW! This is what passes for a game review in the mainstream media? Not exactly "thorough" is it?
- inactive, on 05/01/2008, -0/+9Yes since you can play a game like Grand Theft Auto "wrong"
- jdames1980, on 05/01/2008, -0/+8Well I guess it makes sense, he gave us 6.24% of a review.
- nickj6282, on 05/01/2008, -1/+9What you "needz" is a spelling lesson. Also, use a laptop to bridge the wireless connection like I used to do or like my brother does now.
- Beatmiser, on 05/01/2008, -1/+9My mini review in one paragraph or less: The Single Player game is honestly daunting. I feel like there is almost too much to do. I have a feeling that I'll be doling it out little by little over the next several months. But multiplayer really does shine. I took a city bus yesterday in Free Play mode had another player jump in with me. I drove around running people over while he leaned out of the vehicle gunning people down. But the physics were insane. Piloting a bus is evil.
So really multiplayer is worth the price of the game alone. They could have done this as a release of Liberty City Mini games and I would have been happy. - shanehonda, on 05/19/2009, -0/+8I actually thought the cut scenes were pretty well done. There's a few real dramatic moments. Besides, you can always skip the cut scenes, they don't force you to watch.
- mobilehavoc, on 05/01/2008, -9/+16I have to agree, I was definitely let down by the graphics. All the still shots in the press and online look a million times better than when the game is in motion.
- fadeout, on 05/01/2008, -1/+8I bought it last night. First Grand Theft game I've played.
It's a lot of fun so far except for the driving system, which has been my bane in another games before (Crackdown comes to mind). Having to redo 30 mins of game because I suck at driving (or the driving system is weak) hurts. - PhrosTT, on 05/01/2008, -0/+7the driving system doesn't "suck"...
they intentionally revamped the physics engine to make driving more realistic... i.e. you can't hit and intersection doing 50 and make a 90* turn. after like 25 hours of gameplay i'm finally getting good at driving.
i've started tapping A while holding down L... and that lets me turn fast without losing control. - getbusyliving, on 05/01/2008, -2/+9And WTF are kids doing playing this game anyway?
- DocGuy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6I have been playing the game for about 5 hours now and have yet to kill someone or get more than two stars. The game is great and all the games-within-a-game make it even better. The graphics look great to me (certainly ten times better than any previous version), the soundtrack is stellar and the attention to detail in the cityscape is stunning.
Now, I have stolen my share of cars but that is another story... - asherp, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7There's a co-op mission in multiplayer, and more to follow if you're on x360.
- killbert24, on 05/01/2008, -3/+9Thanks!
- estvir, on 05/02/2008, -0/+6Digg needs a 'Best of' category where we can submit comments like that so more people can read it..
- ogisdan, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6I have had a lot of trouble with the multiplayer. Most of the time it says I can't connect, and the other times I do connect, it brings me to some empty party.
- spacebuddy, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7I am only 2.94% finished, yeah I am slow, but the game is the BOMB.
- thebza451, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6what a great story
- mlvassallo, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6Read the damn article.
- FrostRaven, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7"What's worse? Buying teens cheap vodka or immersive sociopathic sandbox crime simulators?"
Bah, these comparisons are getting old and stupid. This review is obviously invalid because the guy doesn't understand the game. Most noobs that think this game is about killing cops/driving wreckless/murdering hookers are automatically void of a proper opinion. The game is far more than that. And how about that statement? Cheap vodka or 'killing simulator'? Gee, I don't know - what's worse? Having your kid brother pretending to steal a car or letting him drink something that might actually have them doing it for real? - RizenBB, on 05/01/2008, -2/+8Since when is 20 hours of time not adequate to formulate an opinion on a game? The vast majority of games on the market can be beaten in 20 hours.
- Beatmiser, on 05/01/2008, -1/+6Random piece of advice. I've learned if I join a 'Quick Match' the games are empty. but 'Custom Match' is usually full on the PS3 Version
