- Tunguska, on 10/12/2007, -4/+101Someone's getting fired. From life.
- aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -8/+90Is "Adobe © Photoshop © software" gonna become the next "I'm in ur [something], [something] ur [something]'z"??
- shaun1018, on 10/12/2007, -4/+85Im in ur magz flippin ur imagez.
- spec0pz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+77Makes sense to me.
1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Grand Theft Auto II
3. Grand Theft Auto III
4. Grand Theft Auto III: Vice City
5. Grand Theft Auto III: San Andreas
6. Grand Theft Auto IV - Dpack1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+62@mrdiaz,
You're obviously quite blind, look in the background of the huge black and white print of VI - admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53Uhhh. Look at the magazine where it says "Free DVD"
Dumbass. - gidd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Problem is, if you're counting VC and SA, you should really include the "London" and "Stories" games as well as GTA Advance, as they're all completely different mission sets, giving:
1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Grand Theft Auto: London 1969
3. Grand Theft Auto: London 1961
4. Grand Theft Auto II
5. Grand Theft Auto III
6. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
7. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
8. Grand Theft Auto Advance
9. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
10. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
11. Grand Theft Auto IV
In terms of major game engine revision, they go:
1. Grand Theft Auto (Original, London 1969, London 1961)
2. Grand Theft Auto II
3. Grand Theft Auto III (III, VC, SA, LCS PS2, VCS PS2)
4. Grand Theft Auto (Advance)
5. Grand Theft Auto PSP (LCS, VCS) *
6. Grand Theft Auto IV
(*: I may be wrong, but I seem to remember that the PSP games used a brand new engine, ie. not Renderware or RAGE)
I think in all ways, the numbering's fairly screwed and any sensible numbering is going to be a little contrived. I mean, IV is numbered based on it being the first game based on the fourth engine written for mainstream consoles and PCs. - Dpack1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+46@aussieNickuss
No, its becoming the next Soviet Russia - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44Your grammar tells me you speak from experience. :)
- KlayBorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Whats with the 666 thing to the left?
- KiLLB0T, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I'm an intern at IBM and trust me it's the editors fault and interns just go on Digg all day ... and a screw just fell out of my chair.
- Yareking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Since when Gta london is not in your list?
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Yes, useful information for the blind. :-)
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+15It's being ported for vi, obviously. The graphics may take a hit, but it's all about the story, right?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I hope someone kills Jack Thomson before this installment.
- Shadowrose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14 Probably the same way it got past as many diggers as it did.
- ostracize, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Roman numerals?! They didn't even *try* to teach us that in school!
- aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15What.....Vice City and San Andreas didn't come before GTA 3. spec0pz's order was right.
- rockykabir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"The Voice of Playstation Gaming for over a decade"
oh dear... - BeatlesFTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7RTFA
- peeonks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love being an intern! DIGG!
- Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Thats how they got such a good exclusive.
- syphon7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yep, interning full time, and there just aren't enough stories on digg to make the time go any faster.
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4gidd:
On the note about engines, yes, you're right... the PSP versions used their own engine. It was developed by Rockstar as they prepared for PSP development so that they could reach PS2-esque graphics on the PSP's hardware, by what I last read.
I always thought it was gonna be GTA VI, but seeing as GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas are similar to a box set ('cept I waited 2 years in between all of them and got to pay 50 well-spent dollars a piece), it makes sense to call it GTA IV. - PuyoDead, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@Gahro
Why thank you, Captain Obvious. I don't know what we'd do without you. - waz67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not sure what's worse, this mistake or the one I saw a few years ago in a European computer mag which went to print with a headline of "Put some ***** in here please" on an article that was obviously supposed to have the headline replaced with something meaningful.
- GoldyFish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4that sounds like a legitimate headline pcgamer UK would use :)
- Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6@arcotik: Photoshop is an image-editing tool, Indesign is a page-layout tool. Different but related. The designers who did this probably use both.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're right except that LCS PS2 and VCS PS2 use the same engine as their PSP relatives, which is not RenderWare (the last GTA game to use RenderWare was San Andreas).
- GoldyFish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4are you dyslexic?
- Arturion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The huge black and gray VI in the background. You know, the biggest image on the left page?
- nathanlandis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, I'd say it fits well within a Digger's realm of activities to notice screwups.
- brasso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is no goddamn Grand Theft Auto III: Vice City or Grand Theft Auto III: San Andreas. A friend of mine thought this too because the pirate copy he got had the title GTA3:ViceCity written on it and he didn’t even believe me when I showed him my legally bought case and cd! Why is so hard to understand?
Well, I’m off playing some Unreal Tournament: Unreal Tournament 2003: Unreal Tournament 2004! - davzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice! Bet this guy / gal is going to get an earache, that is if they've even noticed yet...
- revmhatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The first time I got to do a big print ad, I accidentally used a comma instead of a period and wound up costing my client a few grand in reprinting. They signed off on the proof, but it still makes one feel like doo-doo. This is the type of thing that gives me nightmares.
- dosterm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't imagine how just the image would have got flipped without somebody having to reorient it on the page. A horizontal flip would have put it way off, given the diagonal. I really doubt the printer did that, because it would involve several steps to make the mistake. Besides, it would require access to the page layout, and most magazines are PDF workflows now.
This one's on the designer. - M3wThr33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2WHAT? GTA2 was in the future.
- GoldyFish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Is it possible the printer may have flipped the background image after it had been approved for release?"
thats a good point, because before the mag went to final print it is likely the the images going thru would be on their side, or maybe even completely reversed, but who knows, its an easy mistake to make end of the day, but really would have expected to be picked up ( unless its an inside joke about rockstar ignoring 2 of its major released games (vice city, san andreas)).
either way, we all know the name of the magazine now. so fair play - malonesm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd be willing to bet that the image was was created correctly, but was flipped horizontally. Oftentimes graphics are flipped horizontally and vertically when checking the final design. If it looks good from all orientations, then it's a good design; oftentimes if something just doesn't look quite right with the image, flipping it will cause the problem to jump out at the designer.
- jun2san, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The digg community might not be retarded but.....
.....nevermind...too easy. - GeneralBison, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"So it is not type anymore because it's huge and graphic?"
No... it's not...
There IS a difference between a graphic and type. It's like saying "Hey you! Make that jpg 80pt and bold!"
Anyway, the magazine didn't make the GTA IV logo, R* did. Play just flipped it. - nutzngum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1not meaning to take sides (i'm SO glad it wasn't me that made THAT error), but background images can often be overshadowed by foreground text/images - and if the right letters are there, the eye may not pick up the fact that they're reversed.
I'm not excusing it, i'm just saying the brain has a way of fixing things so we see them the right way...though the fact that probably 20 people looked at it before it went out is pretty sad. Is it possible the printer may have flipped the background image after it had been approved for release? - Sparticuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remind's me of that real life comic when they went to the future and got all the new games.
- TeLLeK, on 06/01/2008, -0/+1Hey Retards... in the GTA time line Vice City and San Andres come before grand theft auto 3. In San Andreas they talk about what happened in Vice City.. and they show the GTA3 guy before the events in GTA3.
- MaddogMonty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You clearly didn't read the article :|
- Hacbarton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wasn't there a GTA London somewhere in there?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1In this game your a graphic design artist who has just dropped out of community college, and cant find a job, how will you survive
- Pentadact, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Tellek, it's called sarcasm. Did you really think this paragraph was serious?
"It comes as a huge surprise, especially considering other game magazines and websites have still only seen early glimpses of the fourth instalment, set in an ultra-realistic New York City." - the311neo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1(as Nelson) Ha, Ha!
