- dnite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"When are people going to realize that WoW is the worst MMO ever created and branch out to some quality MMOs by better companies with actual good plots and mythology? Maybe some people will one day even find an MMO with a PvP system that's worth playing, like Dark Age of Camelot."
How come just because it's not your kind of MMO, everyone else must hate it too? WoW apeals to a lot more casual gamers than most other MMO's out there because it's not as complex. Hense the reason it's doing so well. So you go ahead and play your wonderous MMO and let those who like WoW do their own thing as well. Everyone can be happy. Don't like it? Don't play it. - mapwow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hi everyone!
Thanks for the digg. We're wrangling our site down now. We've replaced all the php on the site with straight-up executables using CGI. Not to mention we've had a few emails back-and-forth with our hosting provider. The site is currently on a shared host and for some reason they mind when we use up 100% of the shared CPU. ;)
We have an interim version up that should let you get a feel for the site. We've had to disable the herb, ore, treasure, and location label viewing for now. However you can still navigate the map and get a feel for how our site works.

google supports it. they provide a nice API for doing mashups with google maps. - Evilsavant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not a bad little map I guess, but this program is much better.
http://tixu.scribe.free.fr/indexen.php
It's a mapping program and has all kinds of information. - Kiba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When people will ever learn that what game sucks and kick ass is subjective?
Granted, there will be game that overwhlemly subjectively sucks and almost everyone will agree. - Abydos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2impressive
- deaper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is the coolest google maps hack I've seen yet. Dang! These guys are fricking 1337!
- Rodalli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I stopped playing WoW months ago, but I can tell this is gonna gain popularity quickly.
- sarusa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even with a few holes in the map, this is freaking sweet.
- borkov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's the satelitte feature?
- LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Never played Wow, probably never will, but this is pretty cool. It would be cool to see this sort of thing for other games
- Swampthing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Looks QUITE suspiciously like this map of all the flight paths, outposts, minerals, etc.:
http://www.kaldorei.com/worldmap/ - Slybri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone made one of these a year ago, after WoW had been out a few months. It was on Worldofwar.net for a while and you could download the whole thing.
I noticed they disabled the treasure chest and profession gathering icons. That was the only thing that made this map useful. I just use Thottbot for finding stuff. Or memory.
Cool thing to see thought. Is there a way to import this into Google Earth, so I can play around with it easier?
Slybri Lvl 60 pally, Thunderhorn - Big_E103, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I cant load the site up. But i do love WoW
- Porgie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was dumb. Someone wasted their time doing that?
- pushespretn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"that "map" is small enough to be made into a jpg."
The back-end maps are stored as jpg's -- and there are over a gig of them. If you zoom all the way in, you'll see the huge amount of detail that's present. - richeyle, on 04/14/2008, -0/+0do u have any trouble in getting gold or upgrade
your power leveling ? if u do :)you can visit the
website on http://www.gamers777.com/ to get know how i work - schriste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does anyone know where i could find a tutorial and changing the "background" google map? I checked the google API documentation but did not find it very straightforward (i'm new to this stuff). Thanks.
- Jetfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool but still needs more work. Blizzard need to learn from the Digg effect tough. Nothing like 400 players showing up in one place to crash a world server in WOW. It was funny though. FPS drops to 7 when my lowest was 30.
- mathie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice customization of the tech, any legal issue with Google or they support it?
- SlappyMc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow thats cool. I Just went through my whole 2 week trial backpack journey I had. Good times/
- anirudhvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i bet he's just changed index.html or index.php or whatever to that 'sorry, come back later' message. Anyone remember what the actual path of the map was?
- fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How do I get directions from one location to another?
- joemc72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Sorry; herb, ore, treasure,
and location label viewing
has been disabled for now.
Our tiny shared host can't
handle the load of fark."
Looks like Fark is battering the gates too. - Shawn1141, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks great but it needs to be labeled
- G33KFR33K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't play WoW so this isn't useful to me in the slightest, but it is sort of cool, so +Digg. We need one like this for Second Life.
- realmip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1funny and cool
- BGFeltenink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I forsee people running sites like Digg eventually buying servers for the sole purpose of mirroring sites and then forming some kind of union among webadmins to share the cost of these mirror servers. Services similar to this probably already exist.
- davidleeroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now they need one for morrowind.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Thanks for Visiting mapwow.com

01-28-06 17:35 EST - MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's buggy and doesn't work. Google is hype.
- dioxmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FWIW, this was done by the folks @ guildwarsguru a while ago for guild wars, but then pulled out for some reason. Link in case it comes back up: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/newmap/
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bleh, I would've liked to have seen this one... digg for now and undigging if this is crap (when it comes back up)... The people who don't even play WoW probably were hitting this up trying to find ways to flame the comments with "get a life" and "play the real world, step away from the computer" jokes...
I like the way some people write off user-submissions like they don't expect the users website to go down... The Digg Effect is real and it isn't [the site owners'] fault, y'know? Your whining/flaming about the same thing makes you sound like loud-mouth wannabe democrats who love jumping on the bandwagon... you must love the sound of your voices... >_<
It's better left shut. - djtyrant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bummer it's down, but you still get a digg from me :P
- ghelton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works through Coral

- Aooogah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Am I the only one who finds this sad?
- steve693, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Digg effect. :(
Kevin Rose needs to take some of that venture capital and help these poor sites stay alive while they're getting swarmed. Digg is no use if 50% of the links on the front page are broken. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0WTF?? This is totally awesome... You Win!!
- eklitzke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's back up.
- Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Oh man, I am surprised no apostrophe-freaks have complained about the website's message...
XD"
You beat me to it~
lol digg effect~ :D - wthnow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"I'm addicted to WoW."

Partialy am was more but had to still make time for work. Lol - DDarkfire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh man, I am surprised no apostrophe-freaks have complained about the website's message...
XD - TomP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0xD damnit I really wanted to see that :(
- Tom | http://www,tomwrote.info - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0A tutorial would be really helpful.

This is standard practice on Slashdot.org , as soon as the site goes down friendly users with tech resources will put up mirrors to take some of the load off - dickzorz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0omfg lawls awsomes digg++++++
