- grahm55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can tell you are a Microsoft hater, quit sippin' on the hateraid. Also have you even played it? If you have you probably don't like it because you have no patience to learn.
- flavius731, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1actually google earth has basically the same imagery as google maps. if you haven't even used google earth yet, then, well... I feel sorry for you.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2it's google maps not google earth LOL
- benjaminrayburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think noghead's on the right track. Many flight sim enthusiasts don't just view it as a game, they use it as a simulator. As a simulator user you're always interested in fidelity of your equipment.
As for terabytes of data, as our "high speed internet" bandwidth increases Microsoft could simply design the game to download enhanced data for the region that you're flying over (kinda like google earth). It'd be quite humorous to watch the spring loaded Microsoft haters spool up over how evil M$ is trying to track our simulated movements through flight sim.
Most of us will have terabytes of storage space within a couple of years anyway. - em00guy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FS 04 is one of the greatest games ever made, and im a M$ hater of the month. Those pictures are great.
- pinc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ya, but zoom into the ground and all you use on flight sim is blocky textures, at least the last time i played it was like that...
- mattspammail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hot?
You need to get out more. - cyberbuddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0um no its google earth. were talking about the program not the web service.
- noghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pinc was saying Flight sim is bad when zoomed in, I added a closer picture of Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta GA; Its not perfect but even most of the roads and building are right on.
- 2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow... even a link that shows a Microsoft product's accuracy brings haters out of the woodwork!
- grahm55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh!! Those 3D views werent there before. Thats hot!!
- nerdgirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can I just say that the GoogleMaps aerial imagery is possibly the crappest imagery I haev ever seen! No wonder it's free! It's way out of date and the seams are nothing short of atrocious. Come on Google, I expected better than that. I hope you didn't pay good money for it. If that imagery had been served up to me I'd have laughed in the provider's face.
- noghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"ya, but zoom into the ground and all you use on flight sim is blocky textures, at least the last time i played it was like that..."
That's true, it HAS gotten better since than but still not as good as google earth. Then again, go anywhere outside a major city and google earth is ***** where as Flight simulator is consistent.
Still nice how Flight sim gets the geographical features all around the world. That's what I was trying to show. - nickzee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1flight simulator is the pc killer
Deep Blue can't even run that game smoothly - jasonsbytes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess 281+ people care now.
- noghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I should do a 3D version with the skyscrapers.
- Al3xander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with hipster...I don't get what the point of this story is. Who cares?
Apparently 80+ people care - Cheirdal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool pictures.
- dawks-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any idea when we'll see the next version of Flight Simulator.. Im dieing for it.. Hurry up! :)
- TheDecn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with hipster...I don't get what the point of this story is. Who cares? Looks to me like Microsoft has some pretty good accuracy in FS 04, but big deal?
- grahm55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like how you think benjaminrayburn. That would be awesome.
- noghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The point is that this is a demonstration of how well a simulator can simulate and to think about where they should take it next. Maybe to the point where you can find your house. That's what the story is.
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hipster u hit it on the head...but then again this is Digg, so im not suprised to see stuff like this on here........that said MS Flight Simulator has been a GREAT Flight sim for YEARS now......this person is comparing apples to oranges, and frankly i think its just flame war bait, but then again what isnt flame war bait on here....
- jackusage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0very interesting noghead
- hipster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm not really sure why this is a story. Is it suprising that places get their satellite pics from the same sources? Also, why would we expect a GAME to have the same resolution of pictures as mapping software? Compare Google Eart to MSN virtual earth or something comparable.
- J!mbo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Google Earth is server driven. Microsoft Flight Simulator is all on your computer. Already the Flight Simulator install is the size of a DVD. If they were to include even higher resolution textures you'd have to install several DVDs, take up a ***** of space, and take an immense amount of time to install and load.
Also, Flight Simulator has textures for every single part of the world, not just the major ones. - emurillo510, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0flight sim looks better than google earth
http://eltonm.blogspot.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Who the ***** even owns MS Flight Simulator? Not even terrorists use that piece of *****!
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0For one fs 04 is a crappy simulator by microsoft. NO DIGG! Sorry :p

What is Digg?
