Finally a must-have game for the PSP! - thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -7/+49I'm so glad i haven't sold my PSP. It may be dusty, but it's still useful.
- LiquidChimera, on 10/11/2007, -3/+44Looking good, but I'm still waiting on my free demo ;)
- Maarek, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36Can you believe we get paid for this?
- SplatCat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28Isn't the PSP screen only 480x272 ? Hmmm....
- smoothlou, on 10/11/2007, -19/+40Wonder what the load times will be for graphics that nice though...
- alexgamerz, on 10/11/2007, -9/+29I am also still waiting. Is it at all possible that we could have been phished?
- NeoTechni, on 10/11/2007, -6/+26"Buy god of war for the psp, forcing you to upgrade and lose your homebrew"
No game forces that, not since Devhook came out, and especially since custom firmware - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Tells you something about how lazy officials are. The can put xbox-era graphics on N64 era hardware, but not N64 era graphics on Xbox-era hardware.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -10/+27Are we sure those haven't been 'touched up'? or rendered better for media purposes?
- steven401, on 10/11/2007, -6/+22I was thinking the same thin.
Since when did a PSP have a 800*453 screen? - modifiedbears, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20Too bad those screenshots are twice the resolution of the PSP's screen. I'm not saying the game won't look good, but it won't look as sharp as those screenshots.
- fallenone05, on 10/11/2007, -10/+24dude, it's god of war, how dare you question it's greatness?
- NeoTechni, on 10/11/2007, -11/+24"Finally a must-have game for the PSP! "
There have been many.
Most arguably Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - Technopope, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18These are *NOT* PSP screenshots.
The PSP screen resolution is 480 x 272 pixels.
These images are 800 x 453 pixels. - mattmoto, on 10/11/2007, -6/+18This looks excellent. The PSP has really built up a respectable library as of late. All these people who say "my PSP is gathering dust" ought to look harder, there are some superb titles available on the system
For those looking for more PSP games, this site is good reference:
http://psphardwarehelp.com/pages/TLR/thepsphasnogames/ - mattmoto, on 10/11/2007, -9/+21What are you basing this off of? Sure, some PSP games have long load-times, others have lightning-quick load times. It is up to the developer to put some effort into his work.
- daridave, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16You got digged down because indeed it sounds negative to the game, but I kind of wondered the same thing.
I'm not being negative though, the game looks awesome and God of War is pure fun, so I'm anticipating this... but here's hoping it doesn't, indeed, get hurt because of what we're seeing. - lostmongoose, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12@alphabet
I choose option c: keep using CFW and not have to choose between a and b - thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Oh man those commercials are bad. I love the way the guy is playing a game from like 1974 and acts like he's got a lot of responsibility while the politically correct black guy agrees with everything next to him.
- dagger89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8wrong, the PSP has a screen resolution of 480x272... The iPod has a resolution of 320x240, if that's what you're thinking... The PSP has a widescreen resolution, remember? How could it possibly be 320x240?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9i totally believed them.
- shewasjustagrl, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Aww no screens of the mini-game? No digg.
(Ya'll know which one I'm talking about :3) - Fhionnlaoch, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15Conversely, my DS is gathering dust.
- hassanchop13, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I love the Wii too, but damn, you've been brainwashed!
- NeoTechni, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11N64? PSP can emulate the N64. It's officially XBOX era hardware
- hassanchop13, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9hopefully good, the developer has a good rep with load times with good graphics.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7@Ajmoo
Long loading times? Is there anyone here on Digg who doesn't use custom firmware and iso's to load their games? I don't quite remember the last time I've had to sit through more than 2-3 seconds of load time.
With custom firmware no one has to buy another PSP, or update to the latest Sony firmware, or sit through long load times, or shortened battery life etc. Plus with the lowering price of 4GB memory stick ($80-) and the already cheap 2GB sticks, any game can be run easily. - mulletmusketeer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6@matt
I would happily play God Of War with identical gameplay, if there was a new storyline. It is one of the most fun games I have ever played. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. - Jonmad17, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10Mind-blowing.Time to get my PSP from the closet.
- headcasefargone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6The developers of this game are Ready At Dawn Studios (www.readyatdawn.com), the same guys that made Daxter for the PSP. If it's anything like Daxter, then it will have *no* load times after you start the game. Daxter was a 20hr long game that had a grand total of 25 seconds of loading from powering on the PSP to being in the game, if you skip the opening cinematic. Yay for streaming!
- NeoTechni, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7http://forums.gripshiftgame.com/showthread.php?t=9319
Why doesn't GripShift look as grainy or 'chunky' as other PSP titles?
GripShift is the only PSP title available to use full screen anti-aliasing.
(More games may have used it since then) - nobiology, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5is the second shot ninja gaiden?
- cru99, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Hmm, almost makes me want to go out and buy a PSP.

- NeoTechni, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9"Conversely, my DS is gathering dust."
Mine was too, then Pokemon came out.
Now it's gathering fingerprints. - Narishma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I read somewhere that some developers in the team responsible for this game previously worked at blizzard on warcraft 3 or wow (I don't remember which).
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -0/+4@alphabet
How come you would be forced into losing the capability to run homebrew applications if you upgrade your firmwire if your firmwire is current and custom, not the sony one? For example, Dark Alex's 3.40 OE-A custom firmwire has all the capabilities that son'y official 3.40 firmwire has, not to mention that games that require sony's official custom firmwire to run also run on dark alex's firmwire.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the PSPs that has dark alex's custom firmwire would be able to keep upgrading to almost any and every new Sony firmwire in future given that dark alex cracks that particular firmwire at first and releases the patch for it.
@Squiggly
Having a second PSP is really cool. I just bought a black one (another one is silver). Guess I'm just too crazy about PSPs - SquigglyP, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8wtf man, are you 8 years old? did you just start playing games yesterday?
All the mainstream has cared about since the days of the NES and Amiga are the graphics. Graphics and making sure you're system or game has a higher number of doodads and technical junk babble for the box copy.
Not to mention that there's not a hell of a lot one can determine from a screenshot besides graphics. It does suck that companies spend so much time on graphics instead of the gameplay, but the screenshot is generally the first impression gamers get of a game. Would you want your first impression of a game to be a screenshot of placeholder textures in an ugly fullbright level with a character who's animations haven't been finalized so he's just standing in the same pose all the time? Kinda defeats the purpose, you know? - HalFTW, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5"if you drop the resolution in half, the game will look better."
Cretin. - Kypt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Technically it did have loading times yet they disguised them very well in-game as either "opening door animations" or "elevator scenes". Either way they are very seamless and unless you are paying very close attention you won't even be able to notice. It was an AWESOME game btw. Finished it a while ago but just barely buying it (was short on cash :))
- mykos, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7I still have my doubts. I'm what you'd call a God of War PSP screenshot agnostic.
- NeoTechni, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Why remove AA when PSP supports it?
What did you do, resize that in MSPaint? It looks horrible. - etx313, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah the AA looks great, could be running on a dev emu or something.
- headcasefargone, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3kypt, good call on the door opening anims, etc. :) I was one of Daxter's original developers and actually was in charge of all the ingame animation masking the streaming sequences. Doh for you noticing, but oh well. heheh.
Compared to basically every other PSP game ever, it was an absolute technological marvel, and God of War PSP (which I was a part of, briefly) should be an even bigger technological advancement on Daxter. The team at Ready At Dawn is second ot none, and God of War PSP is an instant must buy just because I know the caliber of these guys. - ShrimpCrackers, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4The screenshots are at 500x283 (not 800x600 as you claim) which is upped from the native 480x272 PSP screen. Right click the images and click on properties for proof.
If you've seen Daxter they are just as smooth and beautiful. The animations in Daxter are incredible too. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2 To me it looks like slightly better textures running with anisotropic filtering. I don't know how they are going to get that to run with the textures looking that clean, makes me wonder if that was taken on a PC and the real game wont have the aniso running. Sony often did that with PS2 screenshots.
- CaliConnected, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3There was mention from the writer that this might be the first major release on the PSP. Um hello: Liberty City Stories, Lumines, Me and My Katamari, SoCom, LocoRoco.....I'm excited as much as the other guy but please, that is an overstatement.
This *****'s definitely going to drive PSP sales up though. -
