You're kidding, right? Its all over the place. - mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Please don't do that.
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21The PSP took a significant share of Nintendos 15 year long handheld monopoly, I wouldn't call that 'bomb'.
- geoffreyireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Graphics look amazing.
PSP still has amazing games though. Killzone Liberation, Syphon Filter, Metal Slug.
Screw the haters I'll take a modded PSP over a DS anyday. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I wouldn't call 25 million units a 'bomb'. It's sold more than every other handheld challenger in history combined.
- topbravo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17This got front paged already so prepare for the obligatory PSP sucks and will probably have a unreleased firmware upgrade for the demo bs
- kspraydad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Wow...can't wait (well I can but it'll hurt. Kratos rules.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I read your little 'tutorial'.
"This method worked 100 times, and even if it will not work for you you havent payed anything. Why will this work you ask? Companies like Sony for example have flatrates at mail delivery services like UPS or DHL"
There are two problems with this. First is that Sony (normally) uses the US Postal Service to send out promotional items, as it's much cheaper than UPS, DHL or FedEx, especially for smaller items. They get a further discount because it's electronic media, which have special rates here.
Secondly, there is absolutely no way the USPS will forward a package for a domestic address to an international one. Even if Sony ships them in prepaid-postage envelopes, those are only good for domestic use only. It will be returned to Sony. - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Since PS2 graphics could fit in your pocket. That seems obvious, so you must be trolling.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"if and when the God of War franchise really takes off."
If universal critical acclaim and selling over a million copies per title isn't 'taking off', then I don't know what is.
(edit: late, as usual). - hikaruzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"if and when the God of War franchise really takes off"
Ah hell. Now I'm just repeating the previous two posts for the sake of impressing their points further. - hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Wow, I have never been so excited for a PSP game since MGS ops
- chalkboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@sark666 (#6341962)
I blame price. If it started at the $169 price point it would of sold better. If it dropped to $129 it would kill the DS. I like my psp more then my DS. - weeman43302, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Lorddias
Have you played the first two games?
That is the reason it will be good. - eightyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Signed up! It says I should get my demo via mail, hopefully soon.
- headcasefargone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This is from the same team that made Daxter PSP. This is gonna rule. OMFG, can't wait!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Hell yeah, my PSU account was picked to get the demo.
- xDieStarDiex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I've been waiting for this for a while.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was curious about that too. This is the best I could find:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_of_War_%28PSP%29
At a God of War II launch event on March 13, 2007, God of War II director Cory Barlog indicated that the PSP God of War game would be a spin-off, side story, or gaiden of the main God of War video game series: "It is its own story that connects to the overall story. God of War, God of War II, and then if all the stars align God of War III will be the telling of a trilogy. This PSP story will be a further fleshing out." - Sethbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This may tempt me to finally pick up a PSP :) GoW is awesome!!!!!!!
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4listen to the trailer...its a prequel.
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Okay, there was a whole lot more to my comment then just the collectors item bit. I mean when you can walk into any toy store and pick up an action figure, when people are waiting in line for tickets to see "God of War 2: Kratos Pwns Face" and when people who *don't* play video games have heard of the franchise. Yes it's big, but not that big. Not big enough for a demo for a barely treading water system to be considered a "Collectors item"
Just to put it in perspective, the kind of franchise visibility I'm talking about here is when it reaches Warcraft status. Then and only then can a minor item like a demo for a handheld system be considered a collectors item in 5-10 years.
But all that is besides the point. The main point of my post was about the fact that I *did* order one, even though I don't own a PSP. Honestly, I'm willing to bet that Sony is banking on a certain % (not astronomical, but a nominal one at the very least) of people that don't own a PSP ordering it, playing it on a friends PSP, and consider buying one if it looks like it's going to be the "killer" title for that system. It's marketing 102 people. I might even go into Gamestop or EB and ask to try it out on one of their used systems, and they'd let me do it because it's a potential sale.
So look at the big picture here. Two awesome titles, a big franchise does not make. As far as I'm concerned, the franchise is merely in it's boost phase with the hopes of making a round the world orbit. I'm one of the people hoping that all goes well, and GoW3 isn't just a rehash of old stuff. A movie would be cool too, and I'd prolly buy those action figures as well. But they aren't there yet. - fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OMG I'm so glad I just got a psp!
- ircgoliath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Since when were PS2 graphics INSANE!!1111?"
Since Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, and God of War II ... Since most thought that level of graphical achievement was unattainable on a Playstaion 2, I think that would qualify. :D - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i took it to mean insane for a handheld to have ps2 level graphics. i remember playing tekken:DR for the first time and it dawned on me: "this game would never happen on a gameboy/ DS".
im glad that there is handheld competition. if nintendo kept on unchallenged in the handheld market, would would still be playing on GBA level graphics/ processing abilities ten years from now. sony is keeping them on their toes, and nintendo is reminding sony that they are not invincible. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11True topbravo. But I'll play my games, Diggers can stick with Pokemon. The facts don't lie on the best DS games.
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And the demo offer is US only so far. :(
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yea, i was surprised the ds is that much more popular. it's gotta be the games/ds setup that makes the gaming experience funner perhaps? but as an overall entertainment device, the psp is far superior in my opinion. here's why:
it's got more powerful hardware than the DS.
there are all kinds of emulators for the PSP, including: GBA, PSX, PS2, Atari, SNES, and more
it has all the capabilities of a video ipod, PLUS:
- expandable SD memory rather than a fixed size hdd
- wifi capabilities to stream media content
- a bigger screen
the only problems with it is the memory errors that you often get using its built in browser--hopefully this can be fixed in the future. and i would have preferred to have dual analog joysticks. the ds has a very innovative input interface and good games, but the hardware is lacking. also, as a general portable entertainment device, the psp is far more capable--plays games for many platforms, mp3s, and videos, while the ds can only play games. i still like having an ipod nano (i still think the 1st generation looks better) most of the time as it's more portable, but i would choose the psp over the video ipod just because it's cheaper, and for the 3 main reasons i listed above. - A14049752, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@KingGoonie:
There's something seriously wrong with their PSP, or their usage of the PSP, if what you say is true.
I've owned two different PSPs (I traded one in, then later recieved another as a gift), neither one took anywhere near five minutes to load a game. There is also no extra "initial" load time, to install the game or whatever, on any game I've ever played.
The battery life isn't that bad, either. If you stick it on the charger every once in a while, it works perfectly fine for several hours. It also has a brightness adjustment button right on the front that helps considerably. - cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"...if and when the God of War franchise really takes off..."
No, seriously, he's right. I've never heard of it, and neither have all my animal friends in the cave. - Shippwreck87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So does anyone know the story behind this game? Like is this God of War 1 1/2, where they show Kratos as the new God of War?
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2me 2!
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Of course Kratos rules. He's a Spartan after all.
- 8teve, on 10/18/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure how this works...
I registered for Playstation Underground by only filling in the required fields.
My mailing address was not a required field.
Upon completion is says I should receive one at my mailing address - which I did not provide?
Anyone have any idea how they're magically planning to e-mail me a UMD disc?
(BTW, the reason I didn't fill in my mailing address at first is that it was described as Playstation Underground, and I didn't want tons of spam sent to my home address. I was expecting another step to verify that I wanted the free demo.) - Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@KingGoonie
Not sure why people complain about battery life...I mean mine lasts abbout 6 hrs or more. Since the last handheld I owned was a gameboy (first gen) I'm very happy with it. Just got a DS Lite and battery seems comparable to the PSP...again maybe its because I play my games thru memstick (i do buy games, just like the portability of memstick). Does the UMD reader really use that much energy? - enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Competition is indeed a good thing. Competition forces companies to constantly push for higher quality titles. I am all for the PSP to be successful (its been good so far, looking to improve). What it needs though is not "insane ps2 graphics on the PSP", but brand new titles that are "must haves". I would definitely go pick one up if it had some games that weren't available anywhere else and just plain out rocked. I would get a decent portable media center also. But it has to have those AAA games. I'll be waiting, and when they come out, I will definitely get one.
- jordan1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3you can play Gran Turismo from an PSX eboot on custom firmware
- eXk0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder how long before the demo ships out...can't to playing God of War on the Go!! War driving just got a whole new meaning.
- decay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1read what it says under the address box.
make a new account, you aren't going to get it if you dont... - lovelynina, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1Sounds really cool. I like God of War. Absolutely the best game ever. Soulcalibur also one of my favorite psp games.
Hey guys checkout this link http://freepspgames.50webs.com - got tons of free psp games. checkout God of War there. - KingGoonie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I don't even know if Pokemon DS is good... I never played it...
But you would be pretty hard to win an arguement claiming that overall DS doesn't have a much better game library. - mchammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I own a PSP and ordered the demo. the PSP is a pretty good system and i think this is what it needs to show the digg community that it isn't a failure (besides the fact it outsold the Gamecube and Xbox). I'm not trolling because i have a DS too and a 360 too.
- hater2win, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6More than are willing to admit to it. And yeah, browsing the upcoming section has its perks.
- DJShadow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Just curious but has any one received the demo yet? Its been almost two months and I haven't gotten mine yet.
- lcp03o, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1thanks for the link
http://www.free-psp-demos.com/243/god-of-war-chain ... - gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just signed up and it still said I would get my demo in the mail shortly. We will see.
- DJShadow, on 11/04/2007, -0/+1Just got mine this week. HooRay!
- jordan1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I am running 3.30OE and would hate for this dame thing to update me to the official 3.4 that just came out last week. I wonder if you can hexedit it to not look for the update.
- cthellis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Re-read the comment above you. (Ignore the "trolling" part, if you want. ;-) )
GoW's considered to have some of the best graphics on the PS2, and it could certainly be considered "insane" to think of you carrying that around in portable form.
...and while my initial impression of the game is very favorable, what I'm REALLY hoping they do is figure out some good, clever, and addictive online network play modes to take advantage of. Too few games do anything but local multiplayer, instead of "infrastructure." (Calling things "ad-hoc" and "infrastructure..." Good lord, that's not confusing to people at all! 8-P What were they thinking?) - DJShadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just ordered the free demo.
