Stupid kids. We didn't even have 3D acceleration until 1996, let alone anti-aliasing for it.
People that bitch about jaggies on current gen games remind me of people who insist that 192kbps MP3s sound like crap to them. It must be miserable to have such a narrow range of enjoyable entertainment. I guess that feeling of 'elitism' you get to hold over everyone else makes up for it, huh? - DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22This is a PS2 game. Why would you expect it to run at 1080p again?
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26Wait... what? IGN posts inaccurate information - when contacted, Sony corrects them - and somehow Sony and PS3 owners are on the hook for this one?
Digg, reality. Reality, Digg. I wish you two would get to know each other better. - n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23The original God of War was 480p and it was beautiful.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23Just like Zelda: TP. 480p, if done right, is still impressive.
- velvet396, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21it could do 1080i for GT4... 1080i God of War II would make for one hell of a PS2 swan song.
- autorock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14HD gaming is not a gimmick. It's happening now on the PS3 and 360, in 720p widescreen. The Wii can't compare to this. It wasn't built for it, and people that would appreciate (and know they are looking at!) and HD picture are not their target market. You're incorrectly comparing a quality art *style*, like zelda, to image *resolution* like everything on 360 -- where a game may or may not be great stylistically, but is always HD.
- DorkmasterFlek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I read IGN's comment to mean that the PS3 will support it via backwards compatibility and it will upscale it to 720p. It doesn't change the fact that the game was made for the PS2 and made for 480p. The game itself won't suddenly look incredibly better on the PS3, maybe marginally better at best. If I read this correctly, this is just reiterating that. If the game is supported on the PS3 via backwards compatibility, then it can be upscaled.
- PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21"Rumors of God of War II running in 720p on the PS3 were debunked after we contacted a Sony Representative for confirmation. Ryan B. from Sony Computer Entertainment America stated the Playstation 2 title is "only available at 480p.""
It will be upscaled 720p on the PS3, the guy said it will be 480p on the PS2. Article is inaccurate and he's mis-reading his own quote. - Attrition, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20No HD for you!
- greydream, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13
480p, 720p, 1080whatever. Who cares? GOW had some of the best action, art direction, sound, and storytelling of the past decade. I'd play GOW II on a 12" black and white TV. - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Your english blows, but I echo your sentiments completely.
- ku16610, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15The point is everyone compares a console with a years head start which uses tried and tested hardware versus one that has been out a few months using cutting edge hardware. It takes time to get a product right , but seems everyone is very unforgiving of sony.
I guess today its easier to hate than to appreciate. - GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -14/+24Let me be the first to say, "Well Duh!"
GoW II isn't a PS3 title, it is a PS2 title. The PS2 architecture doesn't support 720p, so what reason would it have to run it? - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -17/+27hah, basic video functions? PS3? think again.
- incredibilistic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@ chemeng
The article didn't say that Sony misrepresented the game, it said that the "RUMOR" that was generated from "IGN" has been since corrected. Nowhere in the article does it state that Sony made the claim that the game was going to be available in 720p.
Also, if you've ever followed IGN, they have a tendency to get things wrong more often than other sites.
You're either a Sony hater or you need a refresher course on the fundamentals of reading.
Either way the game is going to look great and will be, as velvet396 put it, a great swan song to the console leader of the past generation. - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15"How many people own a PS3?"
About as many people who owned a 360 when it came out a year ago. - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Fear is coming out soon, but I don't believe there is anything new in it since the PC or the 360 version.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yeah, The PS3 hasn't even launched in Europe. It will definitely get a boost from that.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@marvin69 Fact is PS3 is selling faster than PS1, PS2, and faster than X360 did at this time in it's life. X360 shortages definetly hurt their sales numbers. I guess what I'm trying to say is; seeing the PS3 in stores doesn't mean anything.
- orielbean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Maybe they should have developed the first real PS3 game to be released when the system came out. This GOWII is still for PS2 (but will play on PS3 of course)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -23/+30Let the PS3 kids keep dreaming.
- ku16610, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I bet for sure a large proportion of online comments are laid by various employees of marketing firms.
its time to expose these guys and get them the hell out of our serious gaming discussion. - obeseotron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Umm... 6 years ago PS2 was already killing the Dreamcast, Gamecube and Xbox were around the corner. I doubt anyone was very concerned with N64. And for the record, no N64 game used 32Mbit cartridges, the very first games were 64Mbit, later on 256 and more. A huge limitation to be sure, but there were SNES and Genesis games bigger than 32.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ drew:
its all perspective. within a month of launch, the ps3 had Gran Turismo HD running in 1080p60. when it was released, nearly everyone praised its visuals and pointed out how it was not easily distinguishable from a photo [remember that?]. the closest comparison was PGR3; a launch game that was running in sub 720p resolution. PGR was beautiful for sure, but definitely not on the same visual level.
its easy to write off GTHD based upon the fact that it is comprised of one map, or theres only one car running etc. my point is just that the ps3 has shown what it is visually capable of.
the consoles are about much more than just graphics, so please let this argument go. - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6let see... in 2007 you have:
f.e.a.r.
unreal tournament 3
ghost recon2
rainbow six vegas
brothers in arms
darkness
rogue warrior
halflife2/ team fortress
army of two
haze
coded arms assault
medal of honor: airborne
there are a few others rumored for release, but these are the ones most likely to debut this year. - JesusXP, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8As usual, IGN does a lame job on reporting what a game actually delivers. My guess is, like usual, they just phoned in the review. I stopped visiting IGN after v2.0, when it became evident it was losing touch with gamers, and becomming more concerned with generating revenue... (***** quality reviews, too many ads, "membership services")
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Ans this time last year I still couldn't find a 360 but I can walk to three stores near me and I can find a stack of PS3s."
That's not even close to the same situation. Microsoft had tons of production problems to work out, and definitely took advantage of their lack of competition. PS3 has to contend with 2 other systems and a higher price point. If anything people should be surprised at how well they've sold. - inpHilltr8r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There is no specific PS3 version, just the PS2 version that also works on the PS3.
- Dibbz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11I assumed that the PS3 might upscale it to 720p.
Would have been great if that was the case. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2someone collectef story and wallpaper
http://all-game-for-you.blogspot.com/ - offspring06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4God of War 2 looks to be an awesome game no matter what resolution it is in. I'm glad I still have my PS2.
- stenk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why the hate! Do you own a PS3?
- pegisys, on 10/17/2007, -8/+9last I read the PS3 doesn't upscale PS2 game they have to be ran at the native resolution.
not unless that is something they updated with the scaler but I doubt it since the scaler kinda limited - 6ftDeep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Rumor ?
How was this ever thought of to be true. The Ps3 has had issues upscaling Ps3 games that can do 720p and 1080i..Why is this even an issue for debat that a PS2 Game built for a console that can't upscale PERIOD! So why would Sony or parent company of God of War make it for upscaling purposes for HD when PS2 can't do HD.
It's a PS2 Game people not a Ps3 game. Kinda defeats the purpose if Ps2 games are carting to the Ps3 console too make focus Ps3 and not a great looking game in God of War 2 for the Playstation 2 system.
people , tisk, tisk think sensible - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ps2 BC upscaling would be a great surprise to be included in the long awaited huge march update for the ps3. oh well... wishful thinkin.
coinciding with the release of a huge BC game, that would make for great press. lets hope IGN accidentally let the cat out of the bag. - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1coded arms was rumored to be canceled. it just got pushed back. konami hasnt "canceled" any games yet.
- kayjay, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5ps3 bashing is the new sport nowadays. roflmao
6 years ago N64 bashing was the rage.
32mbit of space for games, AWESOME. - ncraig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1curses!
- StateofMind09, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Unreal Tournament 3 will be the next really good one. FEAR and Rainbow Six don't interest me at all. Killzone is coming out later this year too.
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8Same goes for the Wii, to expect 720p game from a PS2 that has a 300mhz CPU and 150Mhz GPU that looks the way GoW2 does is pretty unrealistic.
- inpHilltr8r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1> It will be upscaled 720p on the PS3,
Oh no it won't. Not unless PS3 magically starts upscaling all PS2 games. - SubDJ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Coded Arms Assault is Cancelled.

I've never cared for graphics, that's all the sony fanboys ever talk about, along with the capability to play a back catalog of games that will never come in contact with their PS3. They are very vocal but have absolutely no valid points, and all they spew is either their imagination running wild or stuff they don't even comprehend but still decide to say as if they know what they're talking about.
For me, it's about gameplay...I bought an Xbox360 at launch and only played it occasionally until May or June, and haven't touched it since...wasn't worth the money; i got more out of my Dreamcast than the 360 :/
At the end of the day, the genre of game, how intense the scenes are generally going to be, and the talent of the programmers behind the game will be a larger factor on how good a game will look than the hardware is when comparing the PS3 and the Xbox360. The PS3 isn't some super amazing machine with infinite power like many sony fanboys believe, and we'll see as time progresses and the cross-platform games start looking practically identical quality wise.
Over the years, I've heard enough garbage from these kiddies that i generally dislike them more than any other type of fanboy. From hearing things like the original Playstation being the most powerful machine capable of the absolute best graphics compared to the N64 or any PC....it's made me wonder whether they can actually see or not. :/ - kethraal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"its easy to write off GTHD based upon the fact that it is comprised of one map, or theres only one car running etc. my point is just that the ps3 has shown what it is visually capable of. "
Yes, and that's why I wrote it off as such. GTHD is beautiful... but it's basically a tech demo. A playable one... but a tech demo, nonetheless. Tech demos are _supposed_ to show off the full power of a system... but they're not representative of what real games can do. Once programmers have to work in things like real AI (which you don't need with one map) and... you know... gameplay, it becomes harder to have such immaculate graphics.
Anyone remember the GeForce 3 tech demos? The engine powering one of them was an early version of what went on to be the Crysis engine... and it looked almost as good as FarCry would, some three years later. Of course, it was just that... a tech demo. A real game (where graphics weren't the only requirement) didn't end up looking like that for quite some time.
I realize that the PS3 hardware is technically capable of such graphics, when devs focus on only graphics. In the real world, however, I doubt we'll see many games that look like that. - NoSpaceForRent, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7I think the issue is Sony. If the PS3s were produced by a company other than Sony I don't think people would bash it as much. But Sony has really screwed its customers as of late. Be it the CDs that harm your computer, their ill advised marketing campaigns, crappy media that no one uses, exploding batteries, closing of import shops and just general blatant lieing to the consumer. Sony is the only company that will kick you in the face and then charge you for it. Now Sony does have some good products. But that doesn't make up for all the other crap they put out.
So when SONY hyped up their new console with comments such as "Next-Gen doesn't start until we say it does" and then nixes simple things like rumble packs, saying rumble features interfere with motion sensing capabilities yet the Wii has both. It kinda makes you wonder. Or PS3 will have the best Online Experiance and then it turns out it can't do as much as the 360. Or PS3 will have graphics that will be immaculate, yet in some games the 360 just plainly looks better. PS3 bragged about so much, and yet all it has done well is fall short of it promises.
In short, it feels like a growing number of people are becoming tired of SONY's chest thumping then followed by small press releases that say "That feature we talked about, eh, not so much." And this bashing of the PS3 is their expression of that. - thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5"They blow away anything on the Xbox 360 easily"
Wow.. what a retarded thing to say. The only way anything on PS2 could even touch anything on the 360 is if they're both running side by side on 480p standard def TVs and even then it's a stretch. Please play your GoW2 on a 60" HDTV set and then tell me that the graphics "blow away anything on the Xbox 360 easily".
Seriously... comparing a PS2 to an XBOX360 is like comparing an NES to a PS2... they're light years apart - MWeather, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1So what exactly is different from the ps2 version in the ps3 version? More importantly, is it worth the extra $10 and wait?
- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Why do you guys even bother responding? Why do you try to justify your reason for disliking Sony, and the PS3? You just get dugg down by all the Sony fans who seem to take over articles like these. Save your opinions for articles where people care about what you have to say...if those still exist on Digg, I mean.
- PaiZuri, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9The preview videos for this game are insane. They blow away anything on the Xbox 360 easily - even at 480p.
It is scary to think how good their first real PS3 game will be. -
