- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+188What you have to bear in mind though: is that no one ever shot anyone before computer games were invented so you can see where they're coming from.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+104Good riddance, I say. All those FPS people... Sitting in their dark rooms.... Falling asleep and not doing drugs....
HOOLIGANS! - Schpariel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+97As a German, I can tell you that the FPS ban laws are very unrealistic; I know a lot of people who play CS, Halo and similar games. Our government will have to lock up the entire teenage population in jail if this law passes.
- Tunguska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+90Wolfenstein 3D went down bad, obviously.
- grees17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54Maybe he always played on the terrorist side.
- SeBBBe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+46Banning FPS games wouldnt only be uncivilized, it would also be completely laughable. It's like banning bowling because a murderer beats people to death with bowling balls.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42I've been warning people about these bowlers for far too long! It is time we take action against these raging lunatics!
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45Hey, yo, Germany? What the *****'s up with you, man?
I thought you were cool.
-Jeff - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42The entire country must be filled with Angry German Kids.
(If you don't know what I'm talking about: http://youtube.com/watch?v=F9pgOmlHE2k ) - Valarauka, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32And I thought Jack Thompson was bad!
That gives me an idea - why don't we ship all these crazy anti-game legislators to Germany; they can legislate away, Germany seems inclined in that direction already. Then all the gamers can move out, and everybody's happy. - EztliNahua, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30This will never pass. Germany doesn't have a history of making ridiculous laws AT ALL.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26It says "If the legislation passes" That kind of a crap law is not going to pass.
- Morsetlis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Mancat is his stage name. Like Batman.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Hitler didnt play video games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20i say we need to voteban these psychos before it gets completely out of hand... where is an admin when you need them?!?
- Curufir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19In other news:
"Chess banned as an incitement to slavery" - ckinney23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20This is a pathetic refusal to force people and society to take responsibility for their own actions. That entire governments fail to recognize that video games are the next in a line of media used unfairly as scapegoats for society's failures, including movies, rock music, and even novels. The guy shot up a place because he chose to do so, blaming it on anything else is ludicrous. People try to act like video game developers are these guys that sit in a dark room, plotting new ways to force people to become violent in between devil worship sessions. It's asinine and sad to watch governments even debate this issue. People and parents need to take more responsibility, or this stupid cycle is just going to continue forever. Based on my faith in humanity, that's probably never going to happen, since most of human society is too weak and lazy to actually do something to improve their situation because *gasp* it involves thought and effort.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I thought your name was mancat, not jeff?
Dugg up for making me confused. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Rolf: "You know, Hanz..."
Hanz: "Vat?"
Rolf: "Have you vondered why oder countries in this werld have children playing zees games and never go on killing rampages?"
Hanz: "You know, zat is strange... Perhaps its not ze games that are ze problem but something to do wit society, education, access to vepons and zat childs upbringing... perhaps even somting genetic?"
Peter: "Men! Such nonsense! Of course not! The problem is zat we do not have enough laws! Laws magically stop people from doing zees bad tings. Ze only reason tings like zis happen is due to a lack of laws! And videogames... Did you hear? Videogames is causing global warming single handedly!!!" - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Somebody's sarcasm detector needs re-calibrating...
- Jadath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I am German and that's not true. It's against the law NOW, to sell those games to minors, which is absolutely fine. But Mr. Beckstein from Bavaria suggests that even coding, selling or owning "killergames" (how the german media started to call FPS) will be a crime.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Damn, that Germany must be rich, having so many jails to fit all those "developers, distributors and players of video games whose goal is to inflict cruel violence on humans or human-looking characters"
- Inferny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I would probably use a pin, not a ball, using one of my 7, 15 pound balls would get tiring after about the 6Th person
- Jadath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"Germany" isn't going to do that. This is just another stupid suggestion of ONE well known nutter from Bavaria called Beckstein. The rest of Germany is used to laugh and shake their head whenever he opens his mouth. His real problem though is that he was born roughly 70 years to late...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11and thats going to stop gamers how?
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9From Bavaria, where the trees are made of wood?
- Disjunto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9the funniest part, is the guy failed to actually kill anyone, he must really suck at CS. score is now -1 :P
- BillDoE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I asked a German guy about this on the Xbox 360 forums. We play Call Of Duty 2 & 3. Here is his response. You know, killing Americans and German Nazi's.
"The draft law, that was mentioned above, only refers to people, video game shops etc., who or which will sell or make games (first person shooters f.e.) available to minors...
It doesn't mean, that you are a criminal, when playing or buying them as an adult ." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7How quickly can we get FPS Doug to Germany?
- yaki90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Funny. Even though I am german, I think all these parodies of the german stereotype are funny. But isn't this prejudice that ALL germans are somehow law and order addicted getting a bit old?
Also, it's not like just because a guy from bavaria and some other control freaks think banning video games is a good idea, it's gonna happen. We're not a dictatorship, you know. - Enjoikr3w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7People who go around shooting up a school would have done it anyway with or without video games. Games don't cause people to go insane...
- Smiley09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Slippery slope, what's next on the downhill ride?
- Hegemony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"video games whose goal is to inflict 'cruel violence on humans or human-looking characters"
Sooooo... if something doesn't look human we can shoot it? What if they're humans that are really, really mutated? Do non-humanoid aliens count? What about robots? How many of its original parts does a zombie have to loose before it's not "human-looking" anymore? These are the questions that must be asked. - xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Du bist sehr dumm
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's a good time to invest in the company that makes hello kitty island adventure.
- rob3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@antron Muschi!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@foobar... if you think that's what bowling for columbine was about... my hat is off to you sir. you have just made my day...
- Jadath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well, the "point" they seem to have is that those guys killing people actually have played FPS games and they found them in their homes. So that's all they need to "justify" their opinion and if they ever started thinking, that's at least the point they stop doing that. It's not the games causing those people to go out and kill. No, read the suicide letter from Emsdetten, that was a poor, lonely, disturbed and hateful person who couldn't cope with life. Yes, he played CounterStrike. But so do millions and millions of others. It's not surprising that people, who feel hate and anger anyway would be attracted by violent games. Some find relief in that. And for very few, that's not enough and they release their hate in real life by kllling others.
But to say "he had CounterStrike on his PC, so those games must be the cause" is as logical as to say "He had underware in his wardrobe, so this must be the cause. ALL Killers had underwear!". - Inferny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He was probably one of the idiots that always knifed the hosties and turned assault into a death match
- ikak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There was this one time, where I was walking down the street and I saw something silvery white move out of the corner of my eye as if it were a wolf from oblivion. I reached for my sword only to realize it was a plastic bag, and I didn't have my sword. But that was probably just cause I was up until like 3 in the morning playing the game, kinda built into my sub-conscience.
- aynrand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.starterupsteve.com/swf/lolol.html
- sensor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The man who shot people in that school made a video telling that he did it because he was bullied in (that?) school. He basically said that his life went to hell right after he went to school... and he was pissed about that. Blaming it on the video games is SO GOD DAMN PATHETIC.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The idea here, and its really simple...is that the "killing spree" and "CS addiction" are symptoms of the SAME problem. A "Killing spree" is NOT the symptom of "CS addiction".
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Whatever happened to people just being crazy?
- RedbeardUH, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Maybe he should have....but think of all the great FPS we'd be missing out of WWII never happened. In fact...if this whole middle east thing gets out of hand think of all the FPS we will get as a result!
- Dpack1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Blaming video games for the cause of violent people is like me blaming my keyboard for my speeling mistakes... DAMN KEYBOARD!
- artdwpmt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I heard that when Hitler was young, he would spend hours and hours playing Grand Theft Horse and Buggy - Some Else's Fault.
- fatnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why is it that when a gamer goes out and blows ***** up, everyone wants to ban videogames.
But when someone with a military background kills a cop or goes on a shooting spree they just focus on the individual? They were the ones trained to actually blap people, the act of shooting a gun in a video game, and the act of shooting a gun in real life is a very different experience. - n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Next the Wii will be outlawed because you can throw the controller.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3dugg up
