- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Or you can get nearly the EXACT same game for free.

I'm all for Geometry Wars on PC, that's why I've been playing it for 6 months already.
Or if you can still find a copy of GridWars, that's even better. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Grid Wars: So good they got shut down.
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/423289/4751145/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27What a cocktease. GEOMETRY WAR AVAILAIBLE ON PC.....only on vista.
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20"Geometry Wars now available for download for the PC!
Only for Windows Vista, though."
Your submission was the biggest set up for dissapointment ever :( I was like "OH COO - oh damn" - salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Awesome! :)
Except - is there a way to associate the fact that I own this game already to let me download the full version? - Klever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Geometry.Wars.Retro.Evolved.for.Vista.and.XP.Cracked-BAKA
Yes, full version, runs on XP just fine. I wouldn't have had to go there if they had just "allowed" it to run on XP in the first place. Deez nuts Microsoft. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Vista: Cancel or Allow.
*****' CANCEL! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14
Only on Vista you say? ***** you, Microsoft. - nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com
- Lnomis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I find it hard to believe 300 people dugg this article. Are there even 300 people running vista?!
- garreh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"61 megabytes?! What the *****! .... What type of ***** is Microsoft stuffing into this crap?"
Meet Microsoft's friend - Mr. DRM. - stopple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11damn, my bad, i thought this was a thread about videogames, specifically one i like to play
next time ill lurk and wait for someone to post something, and boost my self esteem by calling them a.. dork - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's interesting that this game is so high-tech, it requires a brand-new operating system just to run. It's almost like they didn't WANT it to be compatible with XP.
- lowerlogic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10lol vista
- aboutblank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is Grid Wars 2, and it's like Geometry Wars. It's awesome! I'm not sure what the deal is with the different versions, but here it is:
http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/wars.htm
DL: http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/GridWars54.zip - Purin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Please let me know when they release this on a good operating system.
- tankexmortis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6A similar game was just released as freeware by the indie game company Binary Zoo. I highly recommend it (as well as their other games, especially D.U.O.), I just got it today but I've already wasted way too much time on it :
http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/echoes/index.htm - Scatropolis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7then disable them, it's that simple
- drobati, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Its because they want everyone to convert to there ***** operating system. Its such an awesome game they want to torture those who refuse them.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I can't bring myself to install Vista on my home machine. I bought my kid a new Vista laptop and it sucks balls. Looks great and all, but the security dialogs are enough to make you want to stab yourself with a dull wooden spoon.
- Tremor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I installed the trial version last night and it controls just fine. Since Vista can naively use the wired Xbox 360 controller (which is what I used), it's just like controlling it on the 360. You can also use the wireless 360 controller via a USB dongle sold by MS. Plus, Geometry Wars is setup by default to use the 360 controller if detected. I didn't even attempt to use the keyboard and mouse. The visuals, on the other hand, seemed much better on my hi-def setup compared to the PC.
- Afreyt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@r2builder
He asked when it would be out on linux, dude. - Trel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Also, for gridwars, there's an updated version continued by another author, for win/osx/linux http://gridwars.marune.de/
- evilgold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I wonder how long until it works on wine.
- WasabiBomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I managed to find GridWars a few months ago, and it runs just fine on my WinXP system. It's kinda strange that Microsoft was only able to get Geometry Wars to run on Vista, don't you think?
(One of the best things about GridWars- you can make your own graphics.) - OutlawAdidas, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15Oh screw you. I'm just gonna stay here with my WinXP
*runs away and cries* - Fartag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@o0joshua0o
That is a shocker, also I wonder why it doesn't upset people more that the company writes intentional incompatibilities to force people to upgrade to a newer yet mostly the same OS. They aren't even falsely claiming it needs DirectX 10 (which also doesn't work on their earlier OS's). It's the same as intentionally using inferior parts in "real world" products to force customers to buy a whole new thing when the part finally breaks. Doesn't that seem like more grade A douchebaggery from MS, or are my perceptions so skewed towards expecting wonderful things by using various Linux distribution software that I've lost touch? - swoosh_bnd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's interesting to note that the PC version is 61.50 and the Xbox Live version is considerably less. Also, does anyone with vista want to tell us how well the control scheme works on vista vs. on the 360?
- stopple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7the single achievement on xbox live i am most proud of: survive 1,000,000 points in geometry wars
gamertag is the same as my diggname if you want to check for BS - mpphan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5They could probably get 4 times the sales if they make it available on XP.
- EvilFerret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The reason it's Vista only is because it's supposed to be a Live enabled game. I suppose they got sick of all the delays for Live and decided to release it early, no doubt will patch it once Live is officially launched. Been playing it for a few hours now.... By comparison, it looks *much* better than the 360 version if you set at a high res with FSAA enabled. I also enjoy the keyboard/mouse setup better than analog controls. GridWars was a good way to waste time while *waiting* for GeoWars on PC, but nothing can compare this kind of greatness.
My only real complaint is the lack of a online leaderboard....Of course this will no doubt be fixed once Live is released. - psycho79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Or if you have a PSP, get Trigonometry Wars (a clone).
Works fine if you can load homebrew. - garreh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Grid Assault is THE Geometry Wars clone - Can be hard to find these days but here is the direct link http://members.home.nl/wdw/files/GridAssault98.zip
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6For OS X: http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/grid/wars.htm
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Wow, this is a killer app.
- VioletArrows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There should be a way to digg something for the conversations it makes instead of the article itself. Fat lot of good Geo Wars is going to do me without Vista (thus no digg for you), but several kind users have provided clones and compatible equivalents. I've been curious about this game ever since it first came out on Live, but I have no 360 either.
- Slacker101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was like awsome then I was was like awwww.
- Fartag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's very suspicious whenever anything ends up indirectly encouraging Vista use or other Microsoft products how high the diggs go. It's unnatural. Also the digg downs of common sense comments and digg ups of "Wow Vista and Microsoft are so great!!!!!! I love you forever Bill Gates and Ballmer!!!!" ... I'd love to the see charts and graphs from digg labs regarding the digg trends for these articles.
- tankexmortis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Also, a great link for similar games:
http://indygamer.blogspot.com/2006/08/geometry-wars-clones.html
Although as some comments point out, many of the games aren't so much "clones" as they are "also inspired by Robotron". - EvilFerret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Er.....Who *didn't* see that coming? Guess what, Halo 2 will be cracked for XP within 24hrs of launch too! OMFG The H@x0rz
Fact is, the vast majority of people who buy GeoWars and Halo 2 will already have Vista....... Nobody is going to buy a new OS exclusively just to play a single game. *Cracking* Vista games will not hurt sales at all. - EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The default control system for keyboard/mouse is as follows:
WSAD - Move
Mouse - Aim
Left Click - Shoot
It is a lot easier to play with a dual thumbstick controller, however. - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Or you could just click download on the Msn page...
- CoSMoSYS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@mindtrigger
You are coming to a sad realization. Cancel or Allow? - Prima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3as Klever said, just pick the 'de-vista-ed' version :D
see http://keznews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3542 - geoffreyireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Grid Wars plus my gamepad has robbed hundreds of hours of productivity.
- AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And apparently, it's already been 'cracked' to run on XP.
GG Microsoft. - slicedoranges, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I clicked the story then read the description... it was like a kick in the crotch.
- aserer511, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3NOT a game for the keyboard
- Andreasvb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Klever, could you upload the fullversion somewhere? Thanks.
I have all the clones, it's totally addictive =) - Cerium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is a copy...
www.neonmauve.com/downloads/GridWars54.zip
About the versions? I have played a lot of them and this is the best one imho. Its all about the black holes. -
