- martinj88, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31"accidentally leaked".....sure it was
- LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26The SP was some of the best gaming I've done in a while. Very exciting without being drawn out. The MP is currently getting playtime every night in my house. Very good news.
At this rate I can play GOW till Halo3 and then go right into GOW2. - tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Not really "leaked." The games creator was interviewed on Attack of the Show (G4 program also available as a podcast) and he said there are no current plans for even a sequel( yet). This blurb only tells us that Microsoft wants to make a trilogy out of it (duh, $).
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12In GoW 2 the Boomers are trying to take over the locusts and overthrow the queen, you actually play as a locust for some of the chapters and it ends in a huge cliffhanger.
- Groovester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10To anyone who has played the game: NO SURPRISE
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13So the hype begins for two games we won't see for a good 2 years or more.
Yawn. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In other news, game developers like making sequels to popular games.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10hype early hype often
the new video game industry mantra - bnl771, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think anyone who has played through the game cannot honest score the game as high as it getting if there aren't any plans for a sequel. The thin story is interesting, but it felt absolutely like a "beginning" game. There NEEDS to be a sequel to answer many questions.
- zeejay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7rehashed?
You mean, you don't think the concept of "muscular space marine vs. alien hordes" is original? Heavens, I can't imagine why.... - Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7'Leave it to Microsoft to whore out a game'
Give an example of who doesn't do this? riight. - Moosebern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@aptmunich
To even think about comparing a video game to a new OS is ridiculous. You realize that Vista has to be backwards compatible all the way to Windows 3.0? Jesus, you try coding that. - DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Game. Of. The. Year.
Hands down. - Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6BOOM
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@aptmunich:
Not a fair comparison. Vista was rewritten from the ground up, GoW2 would be essentially a mod to GoW1. - Asvetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good, I was hoping for a sequel atleast to answer the questions:
0. Why was Marcus locked up if he's such a great soldier? Doesn't seem like the Locust takes prisoners.
1. Why did Marcus's DAD have all that data on the locust hive? And where is he?
2. What was that giant gun-totting Tyrannasaurus looking thing at the end of that level?
3. You hear the Queen, but you never see the Queen!
4. I'm sure I have more, but those are the ones that jump to mind...
I hope they introduce a lot more new locusts, along with adding a few more melee and explosive weapons! - Jagdhund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you've beaten through the single-player, then you know of how little of the plot is explained. There are plenty of questions, and much to see. The first GoW seems to be about the gameplay and the environments in the game, a setup, an introduction, to the series. It is very obvious and of no surprise.
I will obviously buy the second one, because I like the storyline, and the gritty feel to the environment and characters. The game has character, something other shooters seem to lack at times. It is a great game, and I'm sure the sequels will be excellent as well. - GruntboyX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4its a god damm video game! what questions could you have! you pull the trigger locust die... Come on its not like its Movie or damm book with a plot.
Gamming is about interaction and doing something. If you want a story read a book. Granted a story adds a nice touch to the video game. but in all modern video games the story can be told in 20 minutes. Its usually ..
1. wake up in prison or from cryogenic state...come out of retirment..or all three
2. fight way out of introductory action mess...usually involving training.
3. find your superior and embark on quest
4. fight your way to end point
5. plot twist
6. fight your way through plot twist
7. repeat steps 5 and 6 as necessary
8. find boss and defeat him
9. sequel...and thus go back to step 1
Thats all your fps, hell probably more than that. What questions could you have? and more importantly why do you care? When you play a video game you want gameplay to shine and have re playability...story is like the seasoning it makes the game better but its certainly not the main dish. - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I had no clue and I admit it. Can't ***** wait. GOW FTW.
- Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know how this fits in but, got myself a 50" plasma yesterday and we tossed GOW up and played for a bit before loading Halo 2 for a spin. Been a little while since I played Halo and WOW does it look like crap compared to GOW. Really sank in how great GOW is.
- 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was made known that GOW would be a trilogy at the last E3. No digg for old rewashed news.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
Trilogy? Hmmm...what ever happened to the "Advent Rising" trilogy...and more importantly, that cancelled $1 million contest?
To me, that's as infamous as the old Atari "Sword Quest" Challenge that died due to the death of the original Atari, Inc. back in 1984. - Jagdhund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, Lynx, it happened that those particular series had a smaller following.
Gears, whether for better or worse, is a huge success thus far, with a large, new fan base. It is very likely sequels will be made because there is a vast amount of hype and money involved. Also, I think Epic wants to tell the complete story. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let the milking of this game begin. I smell something similar to FFVII...Movies, t-shirts, CDs...*sigh* Marketing...
- Eallan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is great news.
- SpaceNinjaDino, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I'm with Nobi-Wan on this. It was announced as a trilogy over a year ago. Check the whois on gearsofwar3.com and you'll see it has been around since Sept 2005. I know this is a fan site, but it sheds early evidence of this fact.
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats ok by me if the game is on par with GOW.
- Halodude1489, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would love to see Bungie continue the Marathon series.
- bnl771, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually I do enjoy a good story in a videogame. If there was no intention for a story, don't have those creepy female narration scenes. ESPECIALLY one at the end that clearly hints at something bigger going on.
The PROBLEM with videogames is that they COULD have awesome stories as well as awesome gameplay, but designers are usually too lazy to do both. If Gears of War is truly a trilogy, mayhaps it can break that trend.
Furthermore, DO NOT introduce bad ass characters (the giant battle bug at the end of the Fenix Estate sequence) and not let us interact with them! - AndyManCan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But maybe it will happen like what happened with Final Fantasy, maybe 7 will be the best, and then it will go downhill.
Why did you say 7? Were you subconsciously thinking of FF7?
GoW vs WoW
Hmm... the acronyms are even similar. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"I would be happy playing Gears of War 7."
Yeah, im happy playing the same rehashed piece of crap too - Gus1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great news, I hope they implement more weapons, 2 more players online, 4 player co-op and better graphics. It's possible GoW 3 could be on the next XBOX, but knowing MS I doubt it.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is news? The real story would be a video game that DOESN'T get a sequel.
- hanapbuhay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Entire article [Microsoft Gears Up for Holiday Season] link:
http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/adwatch/?id=14517 - damienjam666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10. Marcus defied his commander's orders so he could go save his father, however he was too late to save him and was then imprisoned.
1. I can't answer that. Anyone?
2. A Brumak. Look for it in the sequel.
3. I believe the Queen was the Locust at the end, either the giant thing or the one riding it, I still can't decide. - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So go and get one, life is too short. Think piggy bank, not as hard as you might think.
- mitrovarr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yay for sequels. I can't remember the last time I played a game where the plot actually resolved.
- stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Once other games catch up graphically I doubt the interest will be there.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Epic will not be happy, they keep their projects under tight wraps
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1In the next year? So basically nothing changes. Might as well release a free map pack for single player and multiplayer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3as long as the game continues to be fun, they can divide the plot into 50 games.
But it's a little sad they do this, hopefully it won't turn out like the LOK series, patching up plot holes and dragging everything out into a bad anime plot. - wafermouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Surprised by a trilogy? Knock it off, everyone knew a sequel was coming, and when does anyone ever make *2* games in a series?
- aptmunich, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Given Microsoft's vast resources?
You do realize Vista is a few years late right? - Yokai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1No company besides microsoft exploits fans like they do. Microsoft made people buy the Xbox360 for the continuation of Halo 2 because they made the ending the worst cliff hanger in the world. Believe it or not, most people who bought the Xbox360 only bought it to find out what happens in Halo 3 and not for the actual games released at launch.
- mliving, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wow... a trilogy... who'da *****' thunk!
You mean like Quake, Doom, Duke... see'n a trend here fanboys! - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah, sure, "accidentally". Also, why limit themselves to 3 games. Its not like after GoW 3 they are going to stop a successful franchise on principal. I believe this about as much as I believe that the Wheel of Time novels was intended to be a trilogy.
- def1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Oh noes! We leaked the information to the tubes!"
-Microsoft - elShaggy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1GOW2 is already in development, its comming out on the PS2.....Its Gears, noobs. And Kratos would whoop Marcus' ass soo bad it's not even really funny, at all. Last I heard Cliffy said was that they might get back to Gears sometime, but he has other next gen projects he wants to dive into. MS always talks big about their IPs. This is the same as Gates saying Halo 3 on the day PS3 launches. Big talk from a big company. For all i care it's still a rumor until someone from Epic says so.
- shockertwin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Good two years?
Lots of tedious basic models are already done, not to mention base coding. Its the little tedious stuff that backs you up. Once the layout is there, and it works for the most part, its pretty much smooth sailing from there.
Given Microsofts vast resources, i wouldent be suprised if we seen a second in the next year. -
