- Nezzari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36Marketplace is just it's name. All Xbox 360 demos are free.
- Homez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Link to a saved JPG if Microsoft removes it:
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/5736/gearsofwardemoff4.jpg - bigthecat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23From Epic's Mark Rein on their forums:
"Comment on what? I don't see Gears of War in that list. There is no Gears demo and there won't be before launch. I suspect that is a generic header with the Gears image in it. There aren't any plans at the moment to make a demo of Gears. We have other things we're going to be working on as soon as Gears has gone gold but I can not elaborate on them at this point in time."

I wish it would happen though, I'm planning on getting a 360 for GoW :) - Kev1000000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Homez, you've got enough RSS feeds?
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19ahatter, do you even own a 360? Do you know how the system works?
They would never charge for a demo because nobody would buy it - MechaZain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Epic has already stated that there won't be a demo pre-release, but it's great to know that it's on the way.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Epic (Mostly Mark Rein) has said many, many times of the past few months on websites, his blog, the GoW site/forum and other places that a pre-release demo just won't happen unless the sun explodes and the chance of one after release are absolutely incredible slim.
Also, considering how some MS employees jumped the gun with some GoW viral marketing I wouldn't be suprised if they've done so again. - rufo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Epic Games has said many, many times that there will not be a demo for Gears of War in the immedeate future.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, we can remain hopeful, but if the guys at Epic say "no demo before launch"......I'm going to believe them before I believe a generic header image on an Xbox Live website

It's called SearchStatus - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/321/ - shredswithpiks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I love how Mark Rein can act like such a punk ass PR guy. He's a great guy, don't think I'm saying he's mean... he's just so frank it's awesome.
- ihaterobots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6wow, that's awesome incubus, but that has nothing to do with gears.
- StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hope this isn't the trend for big blockbuster Xbox 360 titles. Some of us don't buy on hype. -Brian Ashcraft
BAM! - Homez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Woah everyone needs to calm down, I just linked to Xbox.com! I did do it yesterday when Live was all fine, and it took like 23 hours to reach front page. If you can't get to it have a look at comment 7 where I posted a JPG of what it showed yesterday. What's all the 360 and Xboxers doing during this period of no Live?
- DanielNielsen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is inaccurate bs, there is no demo coming, at least not until after they release the full game.
- NiceButt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The whole story is over at Gamespot, head over there and its not a top story anymore, but look under all news and it should still be there.
- xboxfiend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We've been forced to either stay at home and watch Cosby show re-runs or actually go outside and mingle with society. eeeewwww
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's been denied time and again. It's not happening. There will be no demo. None.
You'd think people would pay attention when the actual game makers themselves say it won't happen. - mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this would differ from what i read today
http://www.gamersreports.com/news/4142/
they say no demo until launch - charpster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3but what of the special gears of war demo this saturday at ebgames (probably just a bunch of videos)? and what about the demo at e3? and what about the demo at the gamestop manager conference?
theres demos out there, they just havent tied up the loose ends and packaged it up for download. epic is still going crazy to finish this game for its nov 17th launch date. there wont be a nicely packaged demo till after the game has been released - Lonecow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The fact that they REALLY REALLY don't want to make a demo for this game pre-release only makes me worry that they just want people to buy on hype alone because they know that have another PDZ and not a Halo.....
- accidental, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Epic already came out stating this is false.
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know if NOBODY would buy a hyped-up demo like Gears of War if it came out before game launch... don't get any ideas MS...
- charpster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2november 7th, not 17th
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@Stephen
If you don't want to buy just based on the hype, then why couldn't you wait for the game to be released and play the demo then? Or wait for a friend to get it? Or wait until the game shops have it on their demo machines which they probably would?
People that complain about games being hyped just crack me up. It's just sound business practice, not some evil conspiracy to steal your money and your soul. If you have reservations, don't buy it right away. - zephyrnug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep, not true.
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/16/gears-demo-is-coming-but-will-it-cost-you/ - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hmmm, he says it won't be coming BEFORE launch. He didn't say that they won't release a demo AFTER the launch, now did he? Maybe we'll see a demo the day of or the following weeks after.
All I know is that this game is extremely hyped up by Microsoft. Why? I've seen third person shooters before. I know I would like to try a demo before I think about buying it. - horrorpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"What's all the 360 and Xboxers doing during this period of no Live?"
i talked to my wife for the first time since "saints row" came out
bonus points for me :D - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Heh. You posted a link to Live on a day when Live will be down all day (24hr shutdown!).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3whats to stop them from changing the their minds?
- ihaterobots, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this was debunked this morning already at 1up:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154445
Rein has even requested that the image be removed.
Buried as inaccurate - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2well, even if you do have a gamertag, it appears that you still don't realize how the marketplace works or the fact that it has been called the marketplace since it was launched
- BleedingHollow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm calling *****...
Boycott if it does happen and u gotta pay. Xbox plz don't make us look bad after all the SONY micro payment *****. - ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i know how marketplace works.. i was just saying that banner was adverdising XBLA games and MS points which made me think they were going to charge for the demo.. thats all.
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4what is that bottom bar called on your browser? with the google rank etc etc.. what is that called and where do i download it
- EscapeArt1st, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This has been proven false. Dugg down.
- mydave, on 07/24/2008, -0/+0oh guy it's false!

http://www.chasr.org/ - phoque, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I once saw something looking like an Oblivion addon on the Xbox Live Marketplace (you know, the "featured download"-images) but couldn't find it anywhere.
Anybody got news or something else I dont know about that? - aupton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2The lack of demo prior to release should be concerning... maybe the game is disappointing and MS knows it? Cash in now and let people complain later :-P
Sounds like a Microsoft tactic ... - rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0might just be a cover up of something that was supposed to be a surprise....weee!...but the cat is out of the bag and there trying to act as if all is well...just wait till xbox live comes back online my children.....
- Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2'They would never charge for a demo because nobody would buy it'
heh.
Somehow I think if they charged 5$ for a Halo 3 demo, people would pay. Yes I have a 360, yes I download demos all the time.
On the flip side the method they seem to use is demo for free but, it expires after a while so if you enjoyed it you really do need to pay for the full version. They did this with at least table tennis which I found uncomfortably fun - ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1yeah i have a 360 want my gamertag?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I can't wait for this demo to come out. Seen videos of the gameplay and it looks sweet.
- usernamed, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Too bad Xbox Live is down today...
- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Why would Microsoft remove it? Furthermore, how is this even news? Is it even possible that anyone didn't expect Microsoft to release a demo of their most anticipated game of the year?
- BamB00, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6Did you mix this up with PS3?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3actually, there are a lot of prerelease demos on Live Arcade, i've been playing NFS Carbon for the past week for example
- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -50/+4yes but the microsoft points logo would make one think it would cost microsoft points which are not free
- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -61/+3it better not mean you have to pay for it.
