- UberC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42Poor college kids with 400 dollar xbox360s...
- SimonX314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31College kids usually have computer monitors, they should pick up a 360 VGA cable for HD gaming on the cheap.
- Opteron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Thinking how Capcom could just scew so many people boggles the mind.
- Strider817, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20The fact that this is even considered "news" is kinda sad. Really, this should be a standard test case on all games, until SD televisions make up maybe 25%, but even that is a little too high to ignore.
- icantdrawanime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Sony: due to issues with blu-ray, we will not be supporting SDTVs with the ps3...
- ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I still wanna see what PS3 games look on a SDTV
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Capcom, are you reffering to Dead Rising? If so then yeah they did screw many people up.
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@betterth
You are internet stupidity at it's finest. While we're at it, why don't we just limit people who can play the Xbox 360 to those who have high-speed internet to so Microsoft can constantly check if you are playing illegal copies of games.
It's people like you that take this crap and the REAL reason why DRM is shoved up our asses today. Because you only do what the sweet little companies want you to do. Enjoy being a drone! - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Priorities. =P
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Why buy a HDTV?
-DVD movies look much better.
-HDTV content is cheap, I'm only paying $10 more a month for HD channels and a DVR.
-I don't watch sports, only movies. For movies in HD alone, it is worth it.
-games look 100x better - Cimlite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Hehe, that actually sounds plausible at this point. Anything to cut down on those pesky "customers" and Sony is on right on it. :P
- SpeckledJim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6ALL 360 games are tested on SDTV. It's part of their standard checks. Early games probably had trouble because they were (as usual) very pushed for time around launch and/or the test procudures weren't completely nailed down.
SDTV is something of a hassle for interface designers/artists because of the relatively small "safe area" - the area of screen where important HUD information must be placed - due to large variations in how much of the screen is displayed on older TVs. In HDTV modes you can go pretty much all the way out. - CaptainEO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"-HDTV content is cheap, I'm only paying $10 more a month for HD channels and a DVR."
Or, if you live in a larger city, HDTV content is even cheaper, as in FREE. I have a HDTV, and don't even have cable. I use a $20 HD Antennae and I get all my channels broadcast over air in HD for free. Looks just as great as it would over cable or satellite since it's a digital signal. No more fuzz, either you get it 100% perfect quality or not at all. - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I love Epic too....but has anybody actually played this game yet?
It looks terrific but how does it play? Over-the-shoulder shooters can be really hit and miss. Especially on consoles. - gronne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@brad
Luxury console? The 360 is about as expensive as a good graphics card. If you ask me it's the cheapest modern gaming option out there and its developers should cater to the 90% of households without an HDTV. All people are talking about is making the instructions in Dead Rising bigger. That's not a major change nor will it kill the HD experience. - BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Precisely.
If you can afford $460 for 360+Dead Rising you can afford a cable - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Good, If I have to spend $400 on a console it should look GREAT on my crappy TV.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Agreed - this shouldn't be news. Do any of us really think that 95+% of developers are *not* testing on SDTVs? The one or two games that haven't are the exception to the rule, and hopefully they learned from their lessons. Personally, I think those game developers are idiots - you need to test the hell out of a console games because patches aren't available. One could argue that console developers haven't needed to test on multiple setups before*, so maybe they're used to it, but to not test for 90% of your market share is pitiful.
*perhaps the best thing about consoles has always been their inflexibility, which allows for consistency. Too bad that's out the window, now that we have two versions of 360 and PS3... - dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The ultrasharp 2005 model are not HD :(
Am i right? - TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I still don't understand why they can't release a patch that increases font size. Oh well I have fun hacking up Zombies in HD.
- stephenwq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5*applauds epic*
[/epicgamesfanboy] - bobbytuck, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Why buy a HDTV? Just so I can watch crappy television sharper?
I don't get it. Problem is, once I lay out the money for an XBOX, I don't have a lot left for a HDTV. Ergo, I'm in the weird spot of gaming high-end on a low-end TV. It sucks, it makes no sense, and it probably aggravates the hell out of most early adopters, but I suspect it's the situation that most of us are in -- even those who won't admit that the only HDTV they've seen is in the electronics department of Best Buy. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's not news, it's just reassurance.
Not everything on Digg is 'news,' by the way.
Capcom issued a statement saying to patch Dead Rising would be too great of a task, etc. - hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3HDTVs are definitely worth it. Buy an upconverting DVD player and you're set.
- morn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I play Dead Rising on my SDTV and can read the texts just fine. Of course I actually bothered with a decent RGB connector.
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3In case people haven't noticed, SD content (most of the stuff out there) looks like total crap on a large HDTV. Also, some people want to game now, but want to wait until the market is cheap for a HDTV. You know, because 1080p is soo affordable these days. -_-
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Shouldn't this be the standard, not the exception? Especially if I'm paying $50+ for it.
- addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Exactly, geez, i just picked up a 20 inch widescreen for $250, not a huge investment when you already have spent 400 and especially when you consider how nice of a computer monitor it is, then another 40 or whatever for the VGA cable and you are golden, i have a 60 inch HDTV, but i sitll play on my monitor because the TV is not in my room. This setup i have is the perfect dorm room solution
- mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My sentiments exactly, this shouldn't be news. Since it is making the news hopefully it'll make other developers start to test their games on all types of TVs. I remember many games on the original Xbox that when you'd use the Component cables on HDTVs you'd get slowdowns in game with the progressive scan resolutions.
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep - one required freaken eagle vision to read the text in Dead Rising on sdtv. Seems most 360 games were rushed out the door (all 4 games we have here are ridden with glitches), hopefully the coming holiday season will see more polished products.
- lagj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What others aren't noticing is that most of the rest of the world has little or no HD content available to them, a HDTV would be useless to them, apart from their 360's - try watching some SDTV on a HD.. looks like crap.
In the UK HDTV's are overpriced, the content from Sky is little and very overpriced and we already have widescreen broadcasting without HD.. There just isn't that much demand for it over here at the minute.
360 on a standard PAL widescreen with an RGB Scart looks just fine.. I will get HD when its worth it. So yeah, please do test on SDTV. - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was wondering since computers monitors are high def is there a vga converter for xbox 360? Ot hdmi (if I remember that right) to vga?
- Rosco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'll applaud Epic again when they begin testing it on the PC.
- brad06, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6@rnelsonee
Actually patches are very common among xbox 360 games these days.
Did anyone stop to think that maybe Dead Rising text on the signs in the mall is hard to read because there is no way to make it look good in SD without taking away from the realism of the environment? Why should HDTV owners of a *next gen* console be made to have large unrealistic billboards in the game because people buy new consoles with old TVs?
HDTV owners should always be put first with everything new from here on out. If SD can be accommodated too, great. If not, buy a new TV to go with your expensive luxury console.
For the record, I own an xbox360 and HDTV at my place, but my 360 has been at my gfs place for a while on her SDTV. I play on both sides of the fence. - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes there is a VGA adapter for 360. PC monitors are about the best HDTV's you can get.
- UncleCrapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I am glad they're testing Gears of War for STDs. WIth today's society you can never be too safe, can you?
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1brad06 - it isn't the text on the environments (textures), but the actual GUI text to follow the story and read characters dialogue.
even the icons that apppear above items are hard to interperate. - betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@dagamer34
***** this was almost a month ago and I'm still responding, because you're a retard.
I'm not even going to comment on your DRM rant, as that's just embarrassing enough for you already.
But what I will say is this: if wanting to increase my televisions resolution from 480x320 to 1920x1080 makes me doing exactly what the companies want, than call me a consumer whore, call me what you want. But make sure to notice that I don't give a rats ass as I enjoy the beautiful screen. - thetonyp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Seriously...
Dead Rising isn't THAT bad on SD. The text was way too small at first, but you get used to it and start picking up key words from the lines and put it together from there. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't even read EVERYTHING that is on screen. After a while of playing a game, I just scan if I read it at all. SD is still alive and kicking, people like myself don't want any of the "early adopter" problems happening to us. I say stick with SD as long as you feel comfortable because technology is only going to get better as time goes on. - Nintendo5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Most TV shows look crappy on big screens, and will for five more years. If you need to spend a $1000 on an HDTV mainly for gaming, why not go with PC gaming instead? If you have good cash flow now then you'll likely be able to afford upgrades instead of feeling backwards in 2 years.
If the 360 ignores the mainstream it won't become a mainstream platform, and then it won't achieve a 1000 titles released on it. - mydave, on 08/04/2008, -0/+0poor college kids))
http://search.ashtech.info/games - BleedingHollow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Buy a 20" Dell widescreen monitor and game in HD on the cheap =]
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Work at gay ass Best Buy for a month, Get a huge discount on your stuff and then leave.
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Poor college kids?... The reason for it is most likely partially due to poor QA and their lack of a budget that includes anything but overtime. (I know for a fact that Godfather 360 for example was tested largely on tiny 14 inch TVs not for compatibility so much as budget).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2You guys gotta start getting more babysitting jobs
- KanosWRX, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I think if you have 400 dollars to spend on a 360 chances are you have a decent TV as well that can play games in WS Plus its just a mater of time before SDTV is gone and everyone has WS's. Personally I am all for doing whatever it takes to get rid of SDTV, I even hate seeing Full Screen versions of movies in the stores.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -24/+6Oh shut up. What's the point of having a next gen console with a last gen tv? It looks like ***** anyway. I personally am waiting for a hidef before I get a 360. It's just stupid. And then to blame a company for making a game hidef only? "Please, while we may have next gen graphics, completely limit your game to cater to the SDTV market".
I'm sure hidef tv owners love massive ass fonts.
