- jetfuel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34You predicted that an extremely successful game would be made more accessible to a broader audience? It's like Nostradamus' second coming!
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+34Lets not talk about RE4 for the PC. Its a port of a port and was terribly botched.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36The same happened to Xbox exclusives such as Halo, Fable, KotoR, and (soon) Halo 2. I'm sure it will happen to many future 360 games as well, which is great for people who eventually want to play the games but necessarily for the price of a new console. I never owned an Xbox (for me, it wasn't worth the purchase for Halo alone) but luckily I was able to play the aforementioned games a few years later when they came with my new computer. I look forward to doing the same with 360 "exclusives" in a few years.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Now if only we could play the 360ers and FINALLY show the supreme dominance of the keyboard+mouse setup.
Crap.. All the console gamers are gunna digg me down =) - kenvsryu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Nice I already have a pc!
- dmason, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@dweeb I completely understand and digg your point. But this is about a third party developer, not a first. If I were Epic I would be more concerned about expanding a franchise than pushing Microsoft's product.
In the case of Nintendo, it absolutely makes sense to keep their franchises on their consoles. - AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Not for GoW or Halo, those games are tailored for the xbox, just feels more natural with the controller stick, HOWEVER, let them play ut2007 against us. That will be hilarious.
- dweeb79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Nintendo kept their flagship characters/games exclusive and it worked out better then cross platform support. Exclusives give a system its uniqueness, without the uniqueness its just another game that people know they can wait for.
- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Or you could buy an XBOX360 controller and plug it into your PC.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14"it would be cheaper for you to pick up a xbox 360 and a copy of GOW in 2010 instead of buying windows vista 2010......just like its cheaper now to pick up a xbox and a Halo 2 instead of windows vista."
It is not about being "cheaper", it is about the function of the product. If I really *had* to play Halo 1 I would have bought the Xbox. But to me it wasn't worth it to buy *another* console for a game I was mildly interested in, especially when my other consoles were just fine. But a few years later I bought a computer for work purposes and it happened to come with Halo for free. Sure, Halo 1 and an Xbox would have been cheaper than my computer, but I wasn't buying the computer for gaming purposes, it just happened to have that as an added feature.
If I buy a Vista computer in 2010, it will be for functions more important than Gears of War. If that computer comes with GoW or Halo 3, I won't complain. But to me those games aren't worth buying the 360 (but that's just me). A 360 may be cheaper in the future, but it won't help with with Maya, Photoshop, Office, etc, like my next computer will. - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Keyboard and mouse own ... end of story. I can't imagine trying to aim with a little joystick (much less a larger one), and yes, I have tried before.
digg++ for you, kita - Optimaximal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Anyone under the illusion that the 360 has 9.6 Ghz of power available to it is either delluded, a staunch 360 FAnboy justifying his purchase or has no idea how multi-core computing works.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Maybe someone will mod in some gameplay variety. As for the guy bitching about the jaggies, let it go man. Gears is beautiful.
- GyroTech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@mxcl
Since when has BioShock been 360 exclusive??
From their own FAQ : http://www.bioshock-online.com/faq/#platform - Tainek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Thats odd, oblivion ect seems to run fine on my pc on highest....
dual cores will be the standard by the end of the summer, and most likely quad cores by summer 08 , so by the time it does come to pc, we'll be able to build x-360 performance pc's for less than £300
its the same story every console cycle, after 1/1.5 years, pc users overtake console users on graphics, then spend 3-4 years enjoying £25 cheaper games with better graphics, and better mod support, gg - Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Heh you obviously don't PC game very much. If we need 9.6 ghz to play a game, you better believe were going to find 9.6 ghz to play that damn game! Woo!
Pardon me while I overclock my voodoo, i'm tryin to play FEAR =) - Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Well can you blame the poor SOB? They've got all the console kiddies brain-washed into thinking that they actually own 'next-gen' gaming rigs when the reality is FAR from it. It's to be expected that they wouldn't understand the current state of gaming and gaming platforms since they're the product of so much spin and hype from the console world. Heck, you even hear console kiddies in here actually claiming that a gamepad is better for a shooter than the mouse/keyboard combo - now that's some serious spin-job going on. LOL
- Fascist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Think about it:
Would you generate more sales by opening it up to a whole new platform?
Or would you generate more sales by keeping its reputation to its icon platform? - sidewinder6x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I agree. I have a 360 and I miss my mouse & kb. My kill numbers are much lower in R6:Vegas on the 360 than they ever were in RavenShield for PC.
- EazyE72, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I think that some people forget that Halo and Halo 2 may have been the premier FPS game for counsel systems but it is average at best compared to most FPS game for the PC.
I also agree 100% on the keyboard/mouse vs. controller issue. A lot of people don't know that most counsel FPS and third person shooters have "aim assist" built into the game to compensate for the difficulty of using a controller compared to a keyboard/mouse setup. So if you put someone with a controller up against someone using a keyboard and mouse without the "aim assist" then it is game over for whoever has the controller.
This issue came up and was shown to be true when the first Star Wars Battlefront game came out. Battlefront was a counsel game that was ported (very badly I might add) to the PC and they left the "aim assist" in the game and it didn't take long for people to figure out that if they used a controller they had a distinct advantage. Now once the server owners figured out how to disable "aim assist" server side, all those that once "pwned" with a controller all of a sudden started having their asses handed to them. - heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7First person shooters control best with a keyboard and mouse. This is third person, and it's not going to work nearly as well as you'd think. I've never enjoyed playing a third person game on the PC with those controls.
Gears really is made for the joypad, and it works wonderfully. - dweeb79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@dmason In that case i retract my previous comment....I misinterpreted the comment by FASCIST
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Um. . .no *****.
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5im not saying you would want to, i'm saying that it's possible.
- Gunsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5if its coded anything like halo was for the pc then I dont want it. besides I'll take UT3 over GoW any day.
- cardyology, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Vivia Pinata is great.
- DigginTuesday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nintendo don't own the operating system used on most PC's. That's the difference. Your argument is correct, keep it propriety, and that's what we have. MS keep GOW on Microsoft platforms, Nintendo on theirs.
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the Halo port wasn't made by Bungie and unlike Halo the Unreal engine is already made to run on the PC, 360, PS3, etc. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+49,6 GHZ of computing power on an in-order CPU are not equal 5GHZ of computing power on an out-of-order CPU
The X360 being somehow better in terms of specs than any modern gaming PC is pure myth caused by miscomprehension of technical specs.
And, the Xenos GPU the X360 has is actually a bit slower than the now-ancient Radeon X1950. Its only main advantages are the "innate" 2xAA, and support of motion blur/depth of field effects on the level of 8800s. - yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7umm, you do realize you can use the xbox 360 controller on a regular pc ...right?
- elViesca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I own a 360 and a PC, and I agree that keyboard + mouse is the best combo for playing FPS. But, I've been playing Gears since December and I've found no major issues in doing it with a 360 controller.
I think FPS' that are native of consoles are a little slower because you just can't play with the same accuracy/ speed with a controller. It would be interesting to see how the PC version of Gears will work this out in order to maintain a uniform gameplay level (assuming a cross-platform Live) - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dell is selling lots of dual-core systems, even to home and business users. Some of the servers I have recently received at work (also Dell) are twin dual-core processor systems. 9.6Ghz of processing power sounds yummy, and not far off either ;-) Not to mention, that sounds like console-fanboi material, so, digg --
- DROWE859, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nah. My computer should be able to handle it right now. I play Oblivion on Max settings, 1280x1024, with a 7900GT KO'd 256. If there is anything I need to upgrade it would be my processor, a 3700+. That and a DX10 card would be nice, but that is unnecessary and out of the question for a couple of years.
- KyotoWolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why was KotOR a Xbox exclusive when the PC and Xbox versions came out at the same time?
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5However I will say that NONE of the WW2 feel right on a console, COD, MOH etc etc
None of them quite capture the experience the way the PC does - yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3you do have Live for PC. It works on Vista
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If epic is porting it, I KNOW it will be good, if not then I have my doubts
many Console to PC ports suck ass because they are ported by some random ass company
IMO Gearbox did a poor job of porting Halo:CE to PC.....
something about it, just didn't feel like the same game - raeanin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We all knew this would happen...
- Gundam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@heinousjay - You obviously missed Oni, which was third person on the PC and had amazing controls. I don't think any console game could do as well, Gears just needs to copy that control scheme, minus all the mêlée commands.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm shocked! I bet noone saw this coming.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Not to mention @ $200 bucks for HD-DVD it's tempting just to get one for that."
The X360's HD drive is fully PC-compatible. You can buy it, connect it to any PC and use WinDVD to watch HD-DVD movies with ease.
"As for GOW, as long it's as good a port that GRAW was to the PC I'll buy it again for it."
Just to say, GRAW for PC and X360 were developed separately. - EzarKun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Cool, I am sure PC gamers would enjoy it.
It would be better because it would most likely come with a modding SDK.
The campaign is great. The MP is OK, until you realise its the same thing over and other again.
Gets realllllyyyy boring, tought my heart stopped beating.
BF2 is the best MP I have played, too bad DICE didnt support it, I hate em for that.
Cant wait for the UT3, I want to see how limited/wide the SDK is. - BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Max Payne worked great with kb/mouse, Hitman 2 worked great with kb/mouse and so did Freedom Fighters and the Suffering - all third-person shooters.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3At the moment of its PC release, GoW will be runnable on an average 900$ gaming PC. And it'll look better than it does on the X360.
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not really, Epic said they'll be supporting WinXP for quite some time even after Vista's release. Plus, unlike with Halo, Microsoft has zero say in whether it'll run on WinXP or not.
- fibreoptix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Ya but these ports are never the same, Halo sucked for the PC. Then again Halo in comparison to any FPS exclusively made for the PC sucked anyhow, so mabey that is a bad example.
- seansshack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1eve if it "did" run on a $900 pc, it is still a fecking $900 machine. use consoles for games and pcs for applications and stop flushing your bucks down the toilet. upgrade this and that. I use to do it myself. But I recently compared rainbow 6 vegas on a dell xps laptop to the 360 version. Comparison. It ran like ***** on the dell......
- Ammo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If it moves to PC, I can see it being vista exclusive...just like they did with Halo 2.
- seansshack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3But!!!!! you will need a $2,000 + computer to play it on. So feck that and play it NOW on a 360. Far cheaper!!!
- autocrawler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"First person shooters control best with a keyboard and mouse. This is third person, and it's not going to work nearly as well as you'd think. I've never enjoyed "playing a third person game on the PC with those controls."
GoW is a FPS with a viewpoint behind the player, not a full fledged third person game.
So:
A) Kb/M controls would work just fine here, in fact they might work even better than gamepad controls due to the fact that you can split A-button's functionality amongst several keyboard keys for better responsiveness.
B) You still can plug the X360's controller into your PC, if you don't like Kb/M controls. -
