- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+60Translation: When will these big talking heads shut up. I bet 20 bucks Wii will be neck and neck with Xbox 360 by June.
I am a master at noobinese. - Nezzari, on 10/12/2007, -10/+53Actually, no, it is true. Sony originally planned to do all the processing on the Cell, without a dedicated video card. Problem is that it is not nearly as powerful to do that.
- Kinser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34That made absolutly no sense...
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26> Uh huh, and 640 kilobytes is all we'll ever need, right?
He never said that and in fact, was on the opposite side.
"I've said some stupid things and some wrong things, but not that. No one involved in computers would ever say that a certain amount of memory is enough for all time... I keep bumping into that silly quotation attributed to me that says 640K of memory is enough. There's never a citation; the quotation just floats like a rumor, repeated again and again."
"Do you realize the pain the industry went through while the IBM PC was limited to 640K? The machine was going to be 512K at one point, and we kept pushing it up. I never said that statement — I said the opposite of that." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Or mac users.

I hope others realize how full of ***** you are :)
I'd like to see just one shred of proof to just about anything you listed there!
It's sad what people will post just to slam a console. Jeez. I'd swear some of you are sociopaths o.O - Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I know his comment is buried to hell and back, but I dug it just for the use of "BIG GIANT neck" in a sentence.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15RTFA.
"In his words, Sony "burned a year" trying to get graphics out of the Cell processor, only to have Nvidia provide a chip at the last minute. Add to this the fact that the PS3 has no unified memory and that programmers have had longer to learn the intricacies of the 360 hardware, and the PS3 is caught in a cyclical game of catch-up."
He's not insinuating that at all but rather due to many bad decisions the 360 will have the advantage. - harrisonpowers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14haha

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Nice one avi. It's an aquired skill.
- jromz03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@avi
you mad-skillz is impressive! - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"how about you compare launch titles to launch titles?"
Here in New Zealand, Fight Night Round 3 WAS an x360 launch title, so technically, they are comparing launch titles with launch titles. - taxman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10so that sony fanboys can cry foul that everyone is comparing PS3's 2nd gen titles with 360's 3rd gen title.
- javip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8still makes no sense
- totallymike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I read that study! I think it also mentioned something about how 97% of people who put milk in their coffee are virgins while 94% of those who use cream will die of a - ***** YOU MAXINUS YOU'RE BURIED
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13This is true in a gamespot head to head comparison here is what they said
"Conclusion
The Xbox 360 had better graphics in almost all the games we examined. The 360's biggest victories were in Madden 07 and Fight Night Round 3, where the differences in texture detail and lighting stood out in our comparison shots. We couldn't capture this in the screenshots, but the Xbox 360 games generally offered better framerates too."
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162742/p-8.html - justinlarsen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If I remember correctly Fight Night was one of the first titles for the 360, or at least within the "first gen" game devlopment cycle as some people call it.
- taxman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"I haven't seen Sony say anything bad about the 360"
I am guessing you have been in a coma since 2005 - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11wrong because it's about the amount of time the DEVS has, which would make it fair to compare launch titles to launch titles.
- krische, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Yeah, sony had an extra year to develop the console. that doesn't mean developers had an extra year to design with the hard like they have with the 360.
- dugbay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@zybch
Saying the wiimote will waer off is like saying the DS touch screen was a fad. The wii is here to stay. It may not beat the xbox 360, but it will stand on its own. - Aharoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As a potential customer of both consoles, who is not a fanboy of either, when I'm considering which one to get I would be comparing the games that are currently out. Most potential customers don't care about "lets wait one year because one of the consoles came one year late". They will go over to the shelf, look at the graphics quality of AVAILABLE games (considering that is the selling point for them) and choose the best looking one.
Claiming that you must compare today's Xbox 360's games with next year's PS3 titles is like saying "buy a PS3 for its potential!"... and we all know what was most gamers' reaction to that statement... - MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The PS3 was supposed to launch in spring of 06. Meaning that by then, developers had worked with the PS3 for at least a year. Not to mention the fact that Spring 06 is only a few months after the launch of the 360. If anything, developers working on the 360 have a head-start of about a few months. Stop claiming that PS3 developers just got the console, though, because that's an entirely retarded statement.
It's not like all the developers went on hiatus after the PS3 was delayed last year. They continued to work, just like the developers working on the 360.
But okay, I'll submit to your retarded logic. If the 360 truly is a year ahead, then no matter how long you wait, the PS3 will always be playing a game of catch-up. I guarantee that in a year's time, if Sony still isn't back on track, most of you will say "wait another year." It's always excuses with you people. - dvsbastard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As a result of the laws of time, Miscrosoft will always be a year in front... so it is perfectly fair to compare PS3 launch titles to second gen Xbox titles, as when the second gen PS3 titles are released, we will have thrid gen Xbox titles...
Later in the lifecycle of both consoles this will obviously have less of an effect as developers reach the performance peak of the respective consoles, however, when discussing the near future (i.e. 1-2 years) I believe you comparing the current releases is completely relevant. - coolspotz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3dugbay, I whole heartily agree with that. While everyone else continues to have this need to have a hangup on 2nd and 3rd generation games for the xbox 360 and the PS3 (all based on graphics mind you)... No one has bothered to think about what the wiimote might be capable of in its 2nd or 3rd generation games. Like everyone else above has said, it all depends on the developers. Don't get me wrong, I was a pro-PS3 fanboy for the longest, but after I gave the wii a spin, I can honestly say, that after a few weeks, I had forgotten about its lower end graphics and was completely into all the possibilities the wiimote has to offer, especially once the right developers tap its potential.
- dudad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It'll be funny in a year when all the talking heads are all proven wrong.
- RealityCheque, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This kid is MAYBE 14 (at best), though you would think he was more around the age of 8 judging by his lack of a coherent grasp of the English language.
- WileEPeyote, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I dont think the Nintendo Wii (GOD I WANT ONE) is any competition for MS or Sony. My experience has been that many people who are buying the Wii already own another console (YMMV) or aren't the types to buy the big consoles anyway. I own a 360 and would love to have a Wii as well. It just looks like something even my youngest would be able to play and would be a hit at parties. The 360 and PS3 aren't exactly the greatest at parties (unless by party you mean a few stoners sitting around playing GOW)...
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"The PS3 was supposed to launch in spring of 06. Meaning that by then, developers had worked with the PS3 for at least a year. Final dev kits were not shipped until E3 06. So no they never had that extra time, the hardware wasn't even finished.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/696/696058p1.html - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4you mean like 360 selling 1.1mil and Wii selling 604k in Dec?
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Hehe like the time when Sony called Xbox 360 Xbox 1.5.
Guess Plasstreeson 3 is the suuupercomputer as they said it was. - totallymike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a arrogant? It hurts my tongue to say it..
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"even tho it's had a year more to develop."
one year isn't exactly last minute. Again, RTFA. Bill said last minute. - Cannfodd3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@drjekelmrhyde
So, err, I take it Mr Hyde is in charge at the moment? - Shaunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously. Console sales can inspire such emotion and rage, its completely understandable.
- sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually the Wiimote and Nunchuk offer the best interface to Call of Duty that I have seen on any platform. It is much easier to aim shots and feels more natural. Obviously the first games are mini-games. They showcase the fun of the controllers best. Other "serious" titles will follow. If I feel like playing with only my thumbs, I'll boot up my old XBox and look through the hard drive to find a game worth playing.

Now THIS is the funniest thing I've seen posted on Digg in... ages! :-)
-Pie - JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3When did Sony say this?
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13You make no sense. The game is out now you compare the games that are out now. Sony had a YEAR more to work on it so please don't give that launch title *****.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Until you show me proof the Developers actually had less time, then i will believe the following."
Well you could look at the article in question where Bill states that they scrapped the idea of using the Cell for graphics "wasting a year."
That would mean that Devs wouldn't even get an idea of the final architecture let alone a kit in comparable time to 360 kits. I mean I think the fact they literally threw on motion sensing at the last minute shows how rock solid the PS3 stats were for the devs to work with. Not to mention that its an accepted fact that its harder to code for the PS3 then the 360. Does that mean that the best games on the 360 will be better then the PS3...no, of course not. It does mean that the launch titles will suck...and for the most part they do. Especially when most were ports.
If only Genji's gameplay wasn't *****...I really think the world would sing a different tune if the PS3 had another good looking, enjoyable, game at launch. =/ - Dalrek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6@Kxpuc
If you knew anything about the consoles, you would know that the 360s GPU is superior to the PS3s. No, Bill didn't say that; many others have though. - sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maxinux, so you are saying that you went for the Wii360 this generation?
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He still makes more sense than the Fony guys.
- MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The big sell for the CELL wasn't graphics. It was physics. I remember at the unveiling that the Cell could handle 30,000 physical interactions on the screen at any given moment. And yes Nvidia was involved from the get go. As for unified memory why does that matter in your console but the exact opposite happens in your computer?
