- fieryseraph, on 07/07/2009, -0/+10I might send more of my gaming money to the the publishers if they were more reasonable about lowering prices on games as they grow older. I never got around to playing Metroid Prime 3 Corruption on Wii, but it's still full priced. And since I can buy it for like $12 used... which choice do you think I will make? Those guys complain and complain and complain about used game sales, but until they get a clue...
- trendygamer, on 07/07/2009, -0/+9Well what the hell else should I do while sitting at home at 2 pm on a Tuesday?
- Haoie, on 07/07/2009, -1/+9That and retro games rock.
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7Some of them are getting a clue, but it's not the one you want them to have. All EB Games locations I've been to lately have used titles selling at $5 less than the new titles, and they'll only give you $5-$10 for trade-ins. They don't even have the common curtesy to buy you dinner first before bending you over the counter...
- TwistyMcFister, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6already did that 3 times today
fap fap fap - immatellyouwhat, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6Lubriderm and Kleenex must be making a killing too.
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4I hope you die in a fire.
- Drahkir, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5You may wanna shop around. Someone is ripping you off.
- whatthefu, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Yeah, and then they try to screw you with used computer games, e.g. you can't install it on more than three computers or whatever. If you need the damn disc to play the game, what difference does it make how many computers you install it on? Publishers need to be more trusting with their customers who don't illegally download their games and gladly fork over their money in exchange for the product they bought. They shouldn't have to deal with DRM because of what other people are doing.
- s0nicfreak, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Pics or it didn't happen
- patho, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Escapism sell big during recession.
High school history said so.
Depression gave us Monopoly and Wizard of Oz. - ilikemonkeys1, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3It's Canada. Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Futureshop and everywhere else I can think of that hasn't upped the prices on their games.
- WoWii, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Nielsen fails as a source.
- Drahkir, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2O Canada!
- liamfriel, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Yeah play psychonauts you boring mofo. Games inspire just as greatly as books, movies and tv are to blame for destroying creativity of the mind!
If you look at any game network (XBL, PSN) you see THOUSANDS of games developed by brilliant individuals. No other form pushes people to the limits of creativity with such ease of distribution. The best that people who watch paris hiltons mybff season 1382308323 can coem up with are silly questionaire apps on facebook.
I understand your problem with the lack of originality in the world - I too am cheesed, but I have seen more originality and creativity in games that any other form, and I read a lot of books. - WoWii, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2Resident Evil 1/2/3 ftw!
I think Ive rebought those games like 3 times. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2Just because my car broke down during the recession doesn't mean the recession caused it.
- Senorchili, on 07/07/2009, -2/+3you're an idiot.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+2last gen games and the like are great deals right now. you can pick up a ps2 very cheap and get games out of the bargain bin for $5.
- dandonia, on 07/20/2009, -0/+1While the word 'Duh!' springs to mind, I hate that the recession is going to take credit for the golden age of gaming that is upon us. Most of the quality games that I have played recently were in development before the ***** fully hit the fan.
Ironically, game prices are said to be on the rise.
http://savygamer.co.uk/2009/07/please-dont-buy-cod ... - onimusha115, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1makes sense, due to the recession I got laid off, now that I'm laid off and job hunting I spend alot of time at home. With no income I need to find cheap entertainment, video games are very cheap $ per hour of entertainment especially when going used. Going out to the movies could easily run 20 bucks, and it kills 2-3 hours, and thats including travel. I can get a used game for 20 bucks and be entertained for 10-30 hours usually, much more if the online play is good.
- decay, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1IMO it has partly to do with students having more time/hours... could be wrong.
- benenov, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1oh, this completely explains why I pay $80 a game now instead of $70....
- aoio, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1The past year I've been gaming more from the xbox live marketplace and applications store for my ipod touch. It's nice that video games are affordable somewhere.
- th3heretic, on 07/08/2009, -1/+2I honestly don't think the recession had anything to do with increased gaming, I think society in general has become used to all forms of video games and their entertainment value, they are convenient and fun and not so much a thing for nerds only anymore.
- Kakumeikeahi, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1So Monopoly designed to for the whole depression then.
- mparker21311, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I've been playing my xbox and ps2. I don't have the money for new consoles.
- liamfriel, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1buy online - most places have got good at delivering games fast cause they can be delivered easy
- s0nicfreak, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1The value doesn't go down, you can still get just as much enjoyment from it 3 years later (except in the rare cases where it's an online game that no one is playing anymore).
- fieryseraph, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1After 3 years, a game isn't worth full price anymore. As time goes on, there are newer games, with better graphics and/or better gameplay. The value goes down, so the cost should go down too. Plus from a purely capitalist standpoint, the smart thing to do is lower the price so they can be competitive. I'm all for "supporting the artist", but when the cost is FOUR TIMES the alternative... sorry.
Valve has gotten a clue here (they sold a squillion copies of the first Half Life a few months back when the reduced the price to a dollar on Steam), why can't other publishers? - s0nicfreak, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1Why not make the better choice, download them, and if you feel they are worth your $50, buy it new.
It makes no sense to buy used games; the point of buying a game is to support the people who made it, which you aren't doing if you buy used. You're instead supporting Gamestop (I'm assuming). - MajorOutage, on 07/07/2009, -1/+1If you want to feel you're doing something useful to bring prices down, don't buy the game at all.
Other than that, the effect of buying used is the same as buying new, if not worse. - garhent, on 07/07/2009, -1/+0Might as well say movies, plays, art, music and books destroy the mind as well then. Believe it or not, there is junk and masterpieces in all types of media. Generalizing one form of media/art doesn't make sense.
- ilikemonkeys1, on 07/07/2009, -4/+3I still hate having to pay $70 for a game... its' gone up $10 in the past couple months.
- excitedstapler, on 07/07/2009, -4/+0Correlation does not determine causality buried as inaccurate.. now back to playing xbox :)
- dsmx, on 07/07/2009, -11/+2I've been saying for years people want cheaper games, piracy is a result of developers charging more money and trying to eliminate the used game market.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -13/+1video games destroy the creativity of the mind.
