- needsomesleep, on 06/24/2009, -2/+13Incredibly nerdy, but the writer might as well use his math skills for good. Good work.
- ifruit, on 06/24/2009, -5/+10Fallout 3 is the most fantastic (single person) game I have ever played.
- gakkan, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5You should get that cough checked out.
- gakkan, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5But with FO3 there is a good balance between RPG elements and FPS elements. They don't force you to use the VATS system, it was just a way of transfering the previous games combat systems to the next gen. Personally i loved it.
- casspa, on 06/24/2009, -1/+6Warning: do not try this at home.
- js281, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4did anyone say it did?
- js281, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4I thought it was a good mix too; I liked that it was an RPG first. The VATS system definately stopped the game getting too frantic at certain points, and allowed for specials like headshots etc to be stat based - which I think was 100% intended.
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -2/+5I love destroying town populations with my shishkabob and railway gun.
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3And where does Pac-Man put all those pellets without growing a single pixel?
- Zcrubby, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Also depends on what part of your body you land on and at what angel..
- Tsumnia, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2Coincidentally, Blizzard originally made gnomes have a run speed of 20% while all other races had 30%. I believe the change came after the introduction of battlegrounds, such as Capture the Flag which basically meant 'No Gnomes Allowed'.
So while modern MMO's don't realistically represent base speeds, it is to avoid the awkward 'Gnomes Only' segregation policies. Could anyone imagine a gnome filled WSG sit-in? - Hraes, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2It's probably a decent time for the average member of the non-obese population though.
- RomanHelmet, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2Great read. I'd love to see more articles analyze games like this.
- Hraes, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2Wait, seriously?

- boomqweeshaa, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1Penn and Teller have one, it's called Desert Bus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penn_&_Teller's_S ...
- Hraes, on 06/24/2009, -0/+1Anyone ever think it's odd that 2-foot-tall gnome runs at the same base speed as a 9-foot-tall tauren? ...no? Never mind.
I would really like to see a game that actually starts with realistic speeds, distances, and times, and build a game on that, instead of tacking reality on afterward. Has this been done yet? - Fortuna, on 06/24/2009, -0/+18:21 is hardly an appropriate benchmark for a mile run to compare with the generally athletic or in shape video game characters.
- iloveGod08, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1They'd need the surface area of Altair's body hitting the hay stack, along with a rather complicated figure of hay+gaps of air collapsing down given the amount of force pushed upon it. Then find medical data on how much force to the back will break ribs and the spinal cord to see if he could actually live.
- Minapan, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1dugg for hilarious weight comparisons
- jtbndy, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1You haven't played many games have you?
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -0/+0I wish you could see your skill levels and progress toward advancing an ability and the real world. Every time I get better at something in the real world, I want to hear a sound or see a flash indicating this.
- omgwtflawl, on 06/24/2009, -1/+1I'm skeptical of the Assassin's creed math. Some people have fallen from very large heights (past a certain point it doesn't matter because of terminal velocity) and survived with only minor injuries because they landed in soft snow. Not saying that he would survive the fall, but something seems up with their math.
- diazigy, on 06/24/2009, -4/+0I played through Fallout 3, and it was good. But Fallout 3 felt like an RPG first, and a FPS later. If I'm playing a FPS, I want to be able to aim my own damn gun! Not pause the game, take me out of the action, and let the computer aim it for me and get a calculated percentage of hitting a certain target.
Another game that is often overlooked which has a very similar atmosphere is stalker. Stalker is a true FPS with very minor rpg elements thrown in. And ammo actually weighs something, so you have to decide whats more important... carrying tons of ammo, or some medpacks. - paranoiabacon, on 06/24/2009, -5/+1because subjective opinion = objective fact
