- Cloudime, on 02/02/2008, -6/+213R.I.P. Gamespot,
the site won't ever be the same for me and many others, without Gerstmann, and especially without Alex Navarro. Both were my favorite reviewers.
I don't care who replaces them, you just can't get two more reviewer-personalities like Jeff and Alex. - slicecom, on 02/02/2008, -8/+179I feel sorry for this guy, and all the Gamespot staff. It's not their fault any of this happened, it's Gamespot's parent company. I for one will never trust Gamespot again, and I don't think many will.
- MasterPlayer, on 02/02/2008, -2/+120Sorry Gamespot, I've moved on...
- Dweller99, on 02/02/2008, -3/+108Good luck with that.
- eightyd, on 02/02/2008, -2/+71Sorry gamespot, but I don't care how many reassurances or apologies you send my way, I just don't care anymore. I have no reason to visit that site. I used to trust gamespot to give HARSH reviews, and now I have no reason to believe them.
A bucket of ***** is a bucket of *****, no matter how well you spin your sales pitches or reassurances. - NecroSexy, on 02/02/2008, -4/+69"[...] the remaining editors stand behind their brand and the integrity of the website."
Easy to stand behind "it" WHEN YOU'RE NOT THE ONE BEING FIRED. Holy *****... - alex7575, on 02/02/2008, -2/+65Too late!
- digichris, on 02/02/2008, -1/+61"We were all pretty taken aback and surprised by how it all went down. ... Hindsight's always 20/20, and I think we've made it clear that we would have loved to have done things differently, but dwelling on it isn't going to help things. ... Our goal really is to just acknowledge what happened, that we're bummed about it, but we do still need to take Gamespot forward. ... Ultimately content is going to prove to people that we're untainted, uncorrupt and commited to serving our readers."
Translation:
"We were surprised by the media attention that we received when we were caught firing a writer for their honest opinion. Looking back, we wouldn't have done it. Let's all just forget about this and focus on the new-and-improved Gamespot. BTW I'm totally bummed that the dude got fired or whatever. We need to stop focusing on this controversy and focus on myself, the new media puppet put in place by Gamestop corporate to show everyone how much we've changed. I promise I'm commited, untainted, and uncorrupted." - inactive, on 02/02/2008, -2/+55Not going to happen. Gamespot dug their grave too deep to ever be able to escape.
- bastardo, on 02/02/2008, -1/+52Not gonna happen. Any journalist with ethics would have left GameSpot already.
"Game Journalists", ha! - inactive, on 02/02/2008, -10/+54He can go ***** himself.
- daeyeth, on 02/02/2008, -0/+41Gamespot was a great site with extremely high integrity. It's a shame that everything they've built over the years (I've been going to Gamespot for reviews since 1998) has been put into jeopardy by some new ***** of a boss (who happened to have an advertising background btw; yeah, coincidence).
I'm sorry, but just out of respect to Jeff, Alex, and Prago, I'm just not going to return to Gamespot. It's the only way I can send my message to CNET that hiring that suit was a bad idea and they should get rid of him. I certainly respect this new EIC for trying his best to redeem GS, but the damage has been done. - inactive, on 02/02/2008, -1/+40You ain't gettin' it, bitch.
- megabytehl, on 02/02/2008, -0/+37"I want to regain your trust"....more like "I want to give lower review scores for a little while to try to regain some credibility before we go back to profiteering again."
- zonk3r, on 02/02/2008, -0/+37Who's trust does he want to regain? His readers or his sponsors?
- CrimsonFate, on 02/02/2008, -2/+37Sometimes the most remedial remarks sum up the collective attitudes of the jilted masses: Get *****, Gamebought.
- thecrazyd, on 02/02/2008, -0/+34"The simple fact is, sales has NEVER come over here to the GS edit area and told us how to write a review, ever."
I know, they just fire you for it. - zoomtechtv, on 02/02/2008, -4/+34Just say no to Gamespot kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
- green67, on 02/02/2008, -2/+32Gamespot?.....they're still alive?.....
- Dasw00t, on 02/02/2008, -0/+28off topic (somewhat):
I dont understand why Gerstmann hasnt jumped in on the Yahtzee wave (disgruntled game reviewer) and signed up with a major magazine or website. With the rep of being the reviewer that "calls it, as he sees it" he could easily start something like a "Gerstmann Corner" or "Gerstmann podcast" on a website like IGN or 1up and simply rip ***** games a new one. - beathermit, on 02/02/2008, -1/+29gamespot.com 127.0.0.1
cnet.com 127.0.0.1 - jockser, on 02/02/2008, -5/+31Quit, join jeff and alex with a new site that is not controlled by the game industry
- ChinezePanda, on 02/02/2008, -1/+25Not going to happen.
Already blacklisted.... Right above Gizmodo and Myspace.
I wonder who will be next..... - MaTT2011, on 02/02/2008, -0/+23Well, he can talk about regaining trust all he wants but now we know that those who pull the strings just want to make money and to do that they need advertising; which is what started the controversy to begin with. He cant really make the decision to stop taking money from advertisers in exchange for tainted scores/reviews/coverage so everything he says is entirely irrelevant.
He may be sincere, i can dig that, but he doesn't have the power to back up that sincerity with actual action. - VaporBro, on 02/02/2008, -0/+22FAIL
- RainOfTerror, on 02/02/2008, -4/+25What? They hired a goblin as EIC now ?
I tossed the ring out a long time ago Baggins, sorry... - inactive, on 02/02/2008, -1/+21Shut up troll.
- bweltondav, on 02/02/2008, -1/+21This is just a case of too little, too late. Way too late, in fact. Seriously, they've let this thing fester for way too long--further deepening the wound.
- rishid, on 02/02/2008, -1/+20Yep I basically stopped going to Gamespot once this event happen, I will never go back. Many other better sites.
- AriaGloris, on 02/02/2008, -2/+21DOUBLEFAIL
- Aensland, on 02/02/2008, -0/+18They could do a REALLY awesome and in-depth review of the one single game it gets every year.
- elvenseven, on 02/02/2008, -3/+21Anything bad about gamespot I'll digg.
- JettaMan, on 02/02/2008, -1/+18Want to regain our trust Gamespot? Get rid of that shill Kevin VanOrd.
- legendxx, on 02/02/2008, -1/+17why would the editor of a GAME website switch to a mac...
- V0lk, on 02/02/2008, -2/+18Too late.
- inactive, on 02/02/2008, -5/+21Why feel sorry for the company? If not for the 'incident' we'd all be victims to corporate greed and corrupt business practices. Sucks for the employees, but to some extent they too are responsible by perpetuating the problem with their actions, or inaction as it were. Corporate responsibility won't happen if there aren't good and honest people willing to stand up for principle. Anyway, in this case.. the market has decided to penalize Game Spot and I think it is deserved, if the CEO manages to clear the Game Spot name and regain consumer confidence then kudos for them.
- VinnieDaMac, on 02/02/2008, -4/+19It's not about "Trust" for me. It was about entertainment. All those guys that left Gamespot were both entertaining and informative to watch.
- CrimsonFate, on 02/02/2008, -6/+20The guy in the photo looks like he was just busted for child pornography.
- truspect0r, on 02/02/2008, -1/+15Get off from the internet please gamespot.
- SniperZero, on 02/02/2008, -2/+15After reading that all that came to mind was the ending of system shock 2.
"Nah". - Drull, on 02/02/2008, -0/+12I don't quite think you understand the situation and why people are upset.
- PDAIsAOk, on 02/02/2008, -0/+13Im sorry gamespot. We tried to make this work, we went through a lot together but it's just not going to work anymore. I've moved on and so should you. It's not me, it's you
- inactive, on 02/02/2008, -2/+14the ONLY way gamespot would ever get back the visitors they've lost is by buying out yahtzee
- Epik, on 02/02/2008, -1/+13***** that.
- lakeshow, on 02/02/2008, -1/+10I don't limit myself to one websites review of a game. That's why I like sites like metacritic that combine all review scores into one average.
- GawtMilk, on 02/02/2008, -0/+9New GameSpot EIC: I Want to Regain Your Trust With Underexposed Cameraphone Images of Me Against a Wall.
- wafflesomd, on 02/02/2008, -4/+12Why did people go to gamespot in the first place? It was a terrible site to begin with.
- mbthompson, on 02/02/2008, -1/+8Yes, it looks as though they gave into the pressure to post only positive reviews about games from major sponsors. In essence, they lost all credibility forever. End of story.
- Varz, on 02/02/2008, -1/+8At least it didn't link to Gamespot so I could read the article.
