- ChrisRX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+69I actually like the sounds from the wiimote BUT only once I've turned the volume down, then they become more like background noises.
When the volume is at default level then they sound tinny - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -6/+56Yeah, first thing you've gotta do with the Wiimote is turn the volume down to about 3 bars. Things will start sounding much better.
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -5/+52Then explain why the editor himself makes this statement:
"..but the Wii controls actually end up feeling more precise in a direct comparison. It’s easier and faster to aim your arrows, boomerang, or other targeted items using the Wii Remote. It’s easier to move the camera around with the Wii Remote, too. While the GameCube controller is more precise when it comes to swinging your sword, the easier aiming and spin attack make the Wii version’s combat controls superior, even though they have a few issues of their own."
Tacked on or not, he's saying he enjoys the Wii controls more for various reasons and never gives the GC controls the better angle. Did you even read the article and/or review or are you just repeating what you hear others saying? The Wiimote sounds sound crappy to those that don't know to turn the volume down. Once you do, the Wiimote sounds actually add *alot* to the experience and I wouldn't go back to playing with a normal controller sans speaker. - fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -9/+45Well it makes sense, Its like giving a 5th grader a A+ for writing a good paper, but giving a college student a C for the same quality of paper because we expect more from that college student.
The gamecube version is an amazing game to snag for the gamecube, it maxes the graphics output of the game, it gives us the true maps since the gc version is not flipped like the wii version.
But im sure anyone would prefer the wii version. It has 16:9, the gc version is only 4:3... The controls are very very very good on the wii version because of the innovative wii controller..
I couldn't imagine playing some of the bosses in Zelda without the wiimote... - PleaseJustDie, on 10/12/2007, -24/+58Gamespot reviewers... these the same people that couldn't figure out how to use the wii mote and trashed it in every review because they just don't get it?
- monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -20/+50Anyone actually care about what Gamespot think about nintendo games anymore ?
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -10/+36"Instead of relying on ***** numbers like the ADD-suffering morons you are, why don't you read the review itself. You know, the part where the critic actually EXPRESSES his OPINIONS through WORDS!?"
Is it too much to ask for the final number to reflect the written opinion? - st00p1d, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Is anyone actually upset by the fact that these two review scores differ by A TENTH OF A POINT?
- kauko, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25"Anyone actually care about what Gamespot think about nintendo games anymore ?"
Good grief. 8.8 or 8.9 *is* a good score.
When it comes to other Wii games, I don't think Gamespot has been particularly harsh in their reviews. It's just a fact that outside Zelda the current lineup of Wii games is mediocre at best. Luckily, it can only get better.
Here's a link to a list of Wii games reviewed by Gamespot:

Nothing really pops out - or do you really think something like "GT Pro" is worth more than 5.1? - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21The Clankity Clang noise of the clawshot can be annoying, but at 2 or 3 bars of volumne it actually adds to the immersion of the game in my opinion, and just becomes another background noise. Id like to see a comparison of the GC and Wii version side by side.
- screwzluse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21I'm not sure how it feels "tacked on." To me, the controls work almost perfectly. I can honestly say I would hate to play any future zelda any other way.
The sound through the speaker is just background to me. I barely even notice it. Could the sounds be higher quality? Sure, but why? I don't think I've unsheathed my sword and thought "God, that sounds horrible." - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Gamespot has pointed me toward more good games than I could count. Especially ones where I wouldn't have known what to guess. Katamari Damaci and Elite Beat Agents standing out in my mind as recent good ones that they've reviewed as such.
I don't think all reviewers are right 100% of the time, and GS is no exception, but they gave their score, and they gave their reasons, which is a lot more than any forum defectors have given. They just chocked it up to "biased scoring," or "incompetence," rather than refute the review on its own merits. - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Maybe because the reviewer stated that it was BETTER on the Wii, but still gave it a higher score on the GameCube.
- MindStalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Turn off??? Never. Turn down? Definitely.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16kevin45,
more importantly, they want publicity and more site hits. Controversy is the most important commodity on the Net-Gamespot is savvy enough to know that 0.2 pts is enough to generate tons of hits. - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14How are going to link to two reviews in one submission?
- rudygetz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Who cares what someone else reviews a friggin game ?!?! You bought the game, You play the game, You like the game....so You give it a 9.0...If someone else disagrees with you and gives it an 8.0 does that make the game less enjoyable for you? Lets hope not cuz if it does then return the game and the system and stop playing video games.
Wii FTW !!! - heretrix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13From the whining about this here and at Gamespot, I would guess so. As silly as it is...
- smiley2billion, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19"The wiimote is only good for aiming, so if you analyse it is not a big improvement."
So all that fun me and my friends are having with Wii Bowling is all in our heads? - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8From Gamespot's "About Gamespot's Reviews and Ratings" ( http://www.gamespot.com/misc/reviewguidelines.html#questions )
""With all the new game systems coming out, what do you expect from next-generation games and consoles? How do you define standards for something that you haven't experienced before?"
We expect next-generation games and game systems to be reasonably better than current-generation games. When we approach coverage of a new system, we expect that system to exceed current technical standards of quality, but also to provide us with compelling gameplay experiences that are at least as exciting as what we could be playing on older systems. In other words, we have high expectations for next-generation systems. As a result, if a game is released for both current and next-generation platforms, and the next-generation version is not markedly better than other versions, you can expect that version to receive a lower rating than others." - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Smiley, we're talking about Zelda: Twilight Princess, not Wii Sports. In TP swinging the Wiimote to swing your sword is the same as pushing a button. There is no directionality, a swing is a swing. And, he did say that aiming was easier with the Wii. He just prefers the control pad to the Wiimote; it's his preference about a game, not a shot at you and your friends' bowling.
- monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Perfect Dark Zero
9.0
superb
nuff said
btw: I said Nintendo games, not Wii games. - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -27/+33"Gamespot Gives GC Version of Zelda 8.9 After 8.8 for Wii, only difference is extra point for sound in GC" Thus proving GameSpot should not be reviewing games...
I never considered them a great source for reviews as it is... but this is just silly/weird... Yah I wont be taking them seriously ever again...
(note, above 8 for any game is still a good score, but its their reasoning that I don't trust... I've seen worse scores for TP, and those sites are worse, but still upping the sound score on gamecube makes absolutly no sense what so ever!... I think they've proven their worthlessness.) Wii version deserves better points in all aspects! XD sound is better due to the Wiimote speaker! =P - ZackScott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm more concerned with how it did compared to Wind Waker. Wind Waker was a great game, but I thought Twilight Princess was much better. Since people are saying they shouldn't compare the GC version of TP to the Wii version because they are different systems, then let's compare these two Zelda GC games in terms of how GameSpot rated them:
Gameplay
TP: 8
WW: 9
I personally think the gameplay on TP was much better for many reasons including the wolf transformation and riding Epona. What does everyone else think?
Graphics
TP: 9
WW: 10
WW's graphics look very clean, but sometimes the cartoony look was a turnoff for me. TP's look realistic and great, and I liked the lighting effects in even though they overdid it sometimes. I would give them both equal ratings on graphics whether it was 9 or 10.
Sound
TP: 8
WW: 9
Was the sound really better in WW? I don't remember. The music in TP was excellent though. What does everyone else think?
Value
TP: 9
WW: 8
Agreed.
Anyway, what does everyone else think? TP got an 8.9 while WW got a 9.3. Is this Justified? - profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Amen. And I'm a Nintendo kiddie myself. Seriously, on the /10.0 scale, it's a 1% difference between the scores. Quit your damn whining, people, and quit taking ***** personally.
Play the game, enjoy it, and STOP looking at reviews for some kind of validation. Too many people go look at reviews AFTER they've already played/bought the game. (I've been guilty of this myself, but I don't whine about it out loud when a critic doesn't like the game as much as I did.) The purpose of reviews (and this goes +/- for movies, books, and to a lesser extent music as well) isn't to validate previous purchases - it's to help you, the gamer/purchaser, make an informed decision about whether a particular game is worth your time and money. If 1% of a difference is enough to convince you that the GC version is in fact better than the Wii version, you need to grow a spine and learn how to weigh pros and cons to make decisions for yourself. - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The story itself could have
- TheSolomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ZenMojo- A 'college senior' versus a 'college student?' I'm hoping you meant 'high school senior' versus 'college student,' otherwise I'm totally confused.
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6ok, now they're just baiting the fanboys. all those angry posts and death threats equate to ad revenue. sneaky, sneaky.
- lewsid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Gamespot has always been the highest quality reviewer, in my opinion. And really, everyone is upset about .1 of a point. Who cares? It's a review, that is, an opinion. You think it's a 9.6? Great! They don't agree, big ***** deal.
The bottom line is that their reviewers know their *****, at least most of the time. As such, I'd like to think that there's usually good reasoning behind a game's rating. Then again, no one is perfect, and that's fine too. It's certainly no reason to tweak out.
- FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Leobaby
You're confusing subjective with quantitative. Subjective means that it's a unique experience to every person. Quantitative means that it can be measured. You can't quantitatively measure the quality of something like a game or a movie since different people will experience it differently. However, each person can measure their own experience. Hence a review is a measure of one person's experience. Just because they put a number next to it, doesn't mean it has to apply to you, or anyone else for that matter. - bassman730, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is why I go to IGN for Reviews but I still like Gamespot
- heretrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This whole Zelda thing just makes Nintendo fanboys look like big whiny babies...
Good Job.
It's a ***** review score and one reviewer didn't praise it up the ass..Boo hoo. Give it a rest..This whole thing makes you look like a bunch of ***** idiots and gives Gamespot more traffic to their site...
I love the game and I'm enjoying the Wii. It should be about what YOU like and not some dude on a gaming site....You should be kicked in the ass if you need someone to tell you what games are good..Reviews should be used as a guide and not fact. They are opinions after all..
Excuse the profanity but I am entirely tired of this *****. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6A real console also outputs its video properly and doesn't ***** up the graphics on backwards compatibility. So far, the PS3 has mostly failed on both counts.
- idiotic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4wtf cares what gamspot thinks, I only play what my overlords webb and sessler tell me to.
- f3l1x, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I love how everytime I see someone getting dugg down for being right its allways Aliasing.
- tknaught, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The two games came out at different times. Scores in graphics and sound have to go with the times as well. Twilight Princess's graphics may have been worth a 9 or 10 when Wind Waker came out, but the graphics bar has been pushed higher since then.
When you're reviewing Gears of War and Twilight Princess in the same week, it's hard to justify giving TP's graphics a 9. - doshindude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6A real console sells well.
the Wii=real console.
PS3=not. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wanna cry fanboys?
- ZackScott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 I guess this really breaks down into an argument on how games should be rated. Here are the options I guess:
Compared to all games ever?
Compared to all games for that system?
Compared to all games released around the same time?
Compared to all games released around the same time for that system?
How would you rate games? To be honest, I would probably take these all into consideration. - mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5By a tenth of a point. That's a hundredth of the total scale. At this point, they're just nitpicking.
- gamma_sierra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How is it that so many people already have a Wii and played TP. I can't find any Wii's in my area (So. Cal) until after January. So for me, it makes sense to pick up the GC version especially if it has a good review. This make sense to anyone else or am I the only person still playing the GameCube???
- FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You have to remember that WW came out several years ago. The standards change over time. What looked like great graphics in 2002 all the sudden don't look so hot when stacked up next to something that came out more recently. The same goes for gameplay. When Mario 64 came out it was a major innovation in gameplay. Now days every movie spin-off in you local bargain bin plays that way. The bar is continually raised for games when it comes to review scores.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I think what you said is key to understanding this debate. You have to take each score on its own, not as a comparison. Games are reviewed according to standards established by, among other things, other games on their respective platforms. NOT on other platforms.
If you can manage to take each of these statements ON THEIR OWN, and keep them firmly separated in your mind, you're that much closer to getting it:
Twilight Princess on Gamecube scored 8.9.
Twilight Princess on Wii scored 8.8. - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wtf, the sound is EXACTLY the same, why would they rate the GCN version higher. screw gamespot, I am sticking with IGN for reviews.
- vp0ng, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5i'm not smart enough to think for myself.
i havent played either version but apparently i have to think what the internet tells me to.
i can't control the rage burning inside me!
the rage!!! - cogen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh come now... measurement error!
8.8 +/- 0.3
8.9 +/- 0.3
See? it all makes sense! - velvet396, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yeah, "there" reviews are great...
thanks for letting me know the intelligence level of those who depend on gamespot reviews. - Konrad9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"OH NO A REVIEWER MADE MY PURCHASE LOOK BAD!"
***** that. You don't need to validate your purchase, you bought the console to play the game you like the way you want to.
I trust Gamespot more than any other reviewing site, but I'm hearing bitching and whining like there's no tomorrow.
I am absolutely astonished at the people saying "OMG GAMESPOT R BIASZZZED THEY R TEH SUXXXXXX" - SirBotchness, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Hey uh, so you go ahead and go with that, and i'll go buy a wii. Sales > Opinions
- boneill428, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6It's .1 of a point. Who cares?
