- juicebag, on 12/02/2007, -6/+122Gamespot is the cancer killing Gamefaqs.
- joker1972, on 12/02/2007, -15/+127I sick of this crap. I want a review of a game not some kiss ass piece of *****. After all I the one who is handing over the cash.
- EvanVolm, on 12/02/2007, -1/+98I'd join the boycott if I actually visited GameSpot or cared enough about who its advertisers are.
- ConfusedONE, on 12/02/2007, -2/+83How dare they boycott "Get Nasty"? Don't they know that is going to be the best game ever? I should boycott them over it.
- zweben, on 12/02/2007, -0/+51Breaking: Gamespot Advertiser Boycott Leads Gamers to Unplanned Hunger Strike.
- ncraig, on 12/02/2007, -3/+52Mountain Dew is all over the homepage now. Which is owned by PepsiCo which owns Frito Lay, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, A&W Restaurants, and Long John Silvers...
maybe I'll just boycott Gamespot - darkchild82, on 12/02/2007, -4/+52Here's the guy behind this whole mess: http://digg.com/gaming_news/Josh_Larson_Director_a ...
Some jerk from Maxin who now handles Gamespot's business ! - solidus636, on 12/02/2007, -1/+49By the sound of the title, I thought Gamespot was boycotting something called 'Get Nasty'...
- Ajajadude, on 12/02/2007, -3/+39Ok, so, how about a list of their advertisers then?
- DrunkenDevil, on 12/02/2007, -1/+37Dugg for "geek-ridden soap opera".
- fotbr, on 12/02/2007, -2/+36so its like digg's politics section then?
- wilf_brim, on 12/02/2007, -0/+34Well, it appears that the server just decided to boycott Digg: went down faster than a CNET exec on an Eidos ad manager.
- BassCadet, on 12/02/2007, -0/+28I have gone to Gamespot more in the last 2 days than I have in the last month because I wanted to see if these ***** have apologized for it yet. But all I am doing is driving up Gamespot traffic, helping their advertising numbers. Big mistake.
Best way to fight against Gamespot? Just don't go there. - DocGlass, on 12/02/2007, -0/+23god forbid people put this kind of effort into boycotting companies that are really hurting people.
- DrunkenDevil, on 12/02/2007, -17/+39I'm*
- kakwakas, on 12/02/2007, -9/+28They're both ***** for tweens with big mouths.
- Sarawanan, on 12/02/2007, -2/+19Why don't we just Digg up every article that GameSpot has to the frontpage? That should have them shut down for good.
- potterboy, on 12/02/2007, -0/+14Holy (@ Gamespot just deleted a ton of forum posts.
- cthulhulou, on 12/02/2007, -1/+14Voting for Ron Paul has been scientifically proven to cure AIDS.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 12/02/2007, -2/+14MetaCritic perhaps.
- Madr0xcide, on 12/02/2007, -1/+13IGN is a pretty good alternaltive. Different layout but hey it works.
- moraldebate, on 12/02/2007, -0/+11Exactly my thoughts. I guess I've been unintentionally boycotting Gamespot since 2005.
- chipitople, on 12/02/2007, -3/+14Notice anything about the popular topics on the forums?
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Popular_Gamespot_Forum ... - SanTe, on 12/02/2007, -5/+16It's*
- chaser324, on 12/02/2007, -1/+11I guess this means I should boycott GameFAQs as well...I really wish they had never sold out.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -0/+10Whenever I'm thinking about getting a new game, I go to gamespot... What is a good alternative?
- Buelldozer, on 12/02/2007, -0/+9Pepsi sold Yum! brands (Taco Bell, KFC, etc) years and years ago. Your information is out of date.
- bjornski, on 12/02/2007, -1/+10Big Mac? Why would you want to?
You could always learn how to cook something yourself. - GeneralGore, on 12/02/2007, -1/+10Gamefaqs is already dead. Have you ever been to the message boards?
- doomsquirrel, on 12/02/2007, -0/+8Rather than pissing millions into advertising, it seems like it would be less of a chore to do the unthinkable -- put the resources into making a game that is actually good.
In the meantime, consumers have options:
- Pirate to try; buy it if you like it.
- Rent it if you'd rather pay $6 than waste hours/days downloading. If you end up loving it, it's just $6 for the trial. If it blows, you've saved $44-54.
- Buy it used, sell it when you're done; you'll lose much less compared to buying retail. Ebay's way better than most chain stores for cheap used games. - volacide, on 12/02/2007, -0/+8I'm sick and tired of professional reviewers allowing the hype machine to influence their review scores and opinions of the game. It's so clearly obvious too, to read a review and see that this person was clearly following a bandwagon for quite some time and that is just now what I expect from a person that we deem a "professional."
It's fine to be human and jump on the bandwagon outside of you writing your final review leading up to a game you're anticipating, but when it comes time to write that review, set those feelings aside and be objective. I THOUGHT that was what separated the "professionals" from the rest of us. Their ability to actually be professional and objective. To see it from both sides, to see how some people might like something that other people might dislike. If you try and tell me that a professional review is just a persons opinion, nothing more, nothing less, then *****, why do we even bother reading this *****, if there's nothing professional about it? - notchristopher, on 12/02/2007, -3/+11Like getting Ron Paul elected. With him in charge this stuff wouldn't happen.
- DemiRonin, on 12/02/2007, -0/+7Gamespot, you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar...naughty naughty
- Zarokima, on 12/02/2007, -3/+9At least I can still get a Big Mac and a Coke.
- DocHoliday22, on 12/02/2007, -0/+6I usually go to Gamespot to check out the screenshots and game score of any game I want to buy, so it is quite concerning having to fork out 50 quid for a game that may have had some "influence" over the actual review and scoring... I think this boycott is a good idea...
- crichton101, on 12/02/2007, -0/+6that's because the one you keep touching isn't yours.
- canthraxp, on 12/02/2007, -0/+6Better idea, let's subscribe to the free Gamespot newsletter, Report as spam in gmail, and then unsuscribe. Done.
- jggr, on 12/02/2007, -0/+6Silence speaks volumes.
- Flummoxer, on 12/02/2007, -1/+7Rupert Murdoch is an honest working-class American just trying to put food on the table for his family. Ass.
- diggadigga, on 12/02/2007, -6/+11These guys should put this energy into something that ACTUALLY MATTERS
- Jadhar, on 12/02/2007, -1/+6I've always been a fan of 1up.com and egm. I suggest just listening to 1up Yours every week
- mrfreeziexp, on 12/02/2007, -1/+6This is one of the few boycotts I can get behind. Viva la Jeff!
- darkecho, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4wow, the mirror got the ad on there, but not the content.
- Frostman3D, on 12/02/2007, -1/+5I'm going to boycott as well. No more Mountain Dew for me.
- CapeKid, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4We need Paul Anka to sing a song and make us look away.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -1/+5Which is exactly what Eidos was thinking.
- TantrooM, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4Well, guess they'll consider this a trial, maybe they'll come out learning how to do effective boycotts and tell others what works and what doesn't against other things. Corporations took the other forms of journalism, so it's time to make a stand somewhere. One must take a step before they can walk.
- crushfan, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3I swear I clicked to the story wondering what the hell that Get Nasty was.
