- DeathBorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72They predicted Internet multiplayer! Just...without the Internet.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+68All in full rich quadraphonic sound!
- freehunter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55It isn't soccer with five goalies, it is a free kick given for a foul, in which five members of the team stand guard of the goal. It is commonplace in almost all soccer games today, and is standard rules of play for soccer matches.
- conman16x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+43I predict that within 100 years, computers will be twice as powerful, ten thousand times larger, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.
- Jibberwalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35In the year two thousaaaand.
Mmm, La Bamba is my hero. - IzeasGT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35They saw Rome: Total War coming? Sw33t.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24"capable of storing millions of pieces of information"
Woah, that's like over 1Mpoi. - madhaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Full of hackers with magnets.
- SwKninja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22The hand held game system looks like an Etch-A-Sketch...
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27as soon as he said "soccer" you just knew the next words would be wrong. (jonathantneal not freehunter)
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"Powerful computers will be able to create adventure games infinitely more complex than those you can play on a micro today."
Which reminds me; I haven't upgraded my micro in years. I better get on that. - punchingjudy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13What magazine did this come from? I can only guess 3-2-1 Contact off the top of my head.
- Beaver6813, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I have three of them.
- TxDr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13When did the round multi-player computer table come out? I'm way behind on technology... =/
- IzeasGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12In the year 2525...
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Exactly.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Coktail galaga?
- nyadney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"hand held electronic games will still have liquid crystal displays, but they will probably be in full color and will be as detailed and realistic as the pictures for a tv program(me) today.
'looks at his ipod with full color LCD screen at 320X240*
O_O - izzykaubaubau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That last picture is talking about Duke Nukem Forever
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7NanoStuff,
SLI is as old as 3d video cards. 3dFX cards were doing it when the first unreal came out many years ago. - lofidan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is from an Usborne book.. I remember reading this one in my local library. There is another page (with piss taking added on) at UncleClive - http://uncleclive.co.uk/ - scroll down, it's still on the front page.
- qwertydvorak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@chris9902: really high for a minute, then the carpal really kicks in. as your fingers curl up, not only does the FPS slow down, but your graphics mostly look like staircases...
- sheep300, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@madhaha
The NES was made by Mattel....euhm no.
The NES was _distributed_ by Mattel in some parts of the world, never _made_. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6what's the FPS like on an Etch-A-Sketch?
- IzeasGT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I had a Contact subscription right up to the very last issue (in 2000 or '01, I believe).
Best. Kids'. Magazine. Evar. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5320x240 is VHS quality. bang on.
- aidanpryde18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I would say that something pretty close to that game already came out. Does anyone remember the Mechwarrior Pod game that was at Dave and Buster's in the late nineties. It was 8-person multiplayer and you sat in a cockpit with a wrap-around video screen and 2 joysticks, as well as a working console. I played it once in Chicago at the Noth Pier Center, it was pretty damn close to what this is talking about.
It's still around actually, http://www.virtualworld.com/ - Bbanda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I found a Game Gear in the trash at a park a few months ago and took it home. It even had sonic still in it and lucky enough the ac adapter was right there too cause other wise I wouldn't have put the 8 AAs in it to play it.
True story. - mangina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Haha I love LaBamba.
- madhaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We're still at the pong stage with thought control systems barely working in one axis of motion. WoW would be one of the worst game candidates calling for precise clicking. And what would having it projected on the side walls add to your gaming? And the 4th dimension is traditionally time. We already have real time games. We had them 20 years ago. The most likely candidate for "the ultimate game" in terms of immersion will probably be someone's already built flight simulator setup. Add thought control and you'll have something like Firefox (the movie).
- captjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Except in Soviet Russia...
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So.. what are your predictions for games 20 years from now?
Wear a headband and it picks up on brain signals?
Holographic displays?
Quasi-reality games using cellphones and GPS hit mainstream?
Collapse of civilization as we know it popularizes stick and ball? - captjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Playstation 9 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmtDAVM-3A
- captjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Racist, but funny.
- martin993, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whatever it is, if Jeff Fahey is online I'm going nowhere near it.
- jud420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3actually, I work in a clinic that lets users play video games via brain signals. Its prety damn cool
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The ultimate game looks like Wing Commander.
What they said about football games already applied to the ones from 1989. - spooks2k6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Urusai
I play chess you ass, and I am quite well with my Sicilian defense - Rayor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FTA "These games will contain computers..."
Um, what? - nyadney, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6let me guess... you have a zune?
those nor any other portable device (other then a psp) were available to me at the time that could play videos - cupid311, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3hey! i love my fro..... I'm serious! Yeah i thought it was gonna be WAY off but definitely pretty close. Can't wait for the "ultimate game" to come out. Although i am glad that nothing actually looks like they thought it would. that multiplayer thing looks like it could be detonated very easily....
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Handhelds: Use LCD screens (true) in color (true since GBC)"
Actually, the Lynx and the Game Gear both predate the GBC. It's just that the GBC was more successful. Then again, the Lynx barely qualified as a handheld it was so freaking huge. - RonnieSan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People can't drive regular cars, what makes you think flying cars will make life any easier?
- BdON003, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well without any idea when this was made, it's pretty hard to tell how ''surpsisingly close" they are. Sure, it looks old, but it's just kind of fishy that there is no reference to any kind of source/copyright.
- daGUY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The funny thing about this is that they got all of the ideas right, just not the implementation. TV games (consoles), handhelds, multiplayer, long-distance (aka Internet play)...we have it all now, just not in the forms that they depicted.
- echonull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, CMU's got something much like that:
http://www.etc.cmu.edu/projects/jamodrum/spring04/
http://www.etc.cmu.edu/projects/jamoworld/experience.htm
It's a round table with four inputs around it, typically used as drum pads or turntables. - jud420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2actually, the Cowon iAudio came out quite a bit before the video iPod did, and was about 50 bucks cheaper. It works like a charm to this day for me.
- captjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Matrix
- ialas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Games of the future? 1337!
